Issue with syncing iPod touch with new laptop

Hi, I am asking on behalf of my brother (who is very frustrated) about why his windows laptop is not syncing properly with his iPod touch 4th gen. He claims to have authorized the machine with his iTunes account but every time he syncs the iPod with the laptop, it demands that he delete all of his music and resync it. So he does as it asks and when he plugs it in again later, iTunes wants him to delete everything. He does have his device authorized with a few other computers. Could he solve his problem by deauthorizing them since he never plans to use them again? Thanks for any and all help.

To not lose anything do the following:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
The computer has to be authorized for his iTunes account. Since you can on have five computer authorized, he should deauthorize any unnecessary computer.

  • Problems with Sync iPod Touch with MS Outlook 2007 Calendar

I've seen oodles of complaints in this area, I'm thinking Apple isn't ready for prime time with "Calendar"
I have a 10 year old palm pilot, that has been syncing a MS-outlook calendar for work, and one from home, and it allows me to have a PDA with an accurate calendar. The work computer is typically newer (Windows 7, Outlook 2007), the home computer is typically older (XP, Outlook 2001). But changes between the two have happened over the years, and the Palm faithfully keeps on Syncing the two. I only want one calendar to see all my life's activities (work meetings, kid's dentist appointments, wife's sewing groups, going out with friends, etc.)
Did I mention my palm is 10 years old? I purchased an iPod Touch last week, and I knew in advance it would force me to install iTunes (so both are new).
While the ipod touch has wonderful things on it (I've jumped 10 years in technology), I need a mobile PDA with an "accurate" calendar. Note the word Accurate.
After Syncing, I see some recurring entries on time, some recurring entries out by an hour, some recurring entries that were deleted on my computer, still there in the ipod.
I've read that sometimes when you do a change (just to the content) of a recurring item, it can change the time of the calendar entry
I've read that there are known bugs in deleted recurring entries, still appearing.
While my Palm Pilot was not perfect, it handled those situations.
From ideas I've read, I've reset my backup in iTunes, I've emptied my outlook calendar, synced it empty to ipod, imported my outlook calendar back, and synced it to ipod forcing it to "overwrite", but problem entries still remains.
I've read some people say they no longer use recurring entries. Not an option for me. If I have a client for a year that wants to meet every Tuesday at 2:00 pm, but oh, I can't July 13, he can't October 19, how am I supposed to remember on those future dates, that the PDA while saying there is a meeting, there really isn't one?
How do I go about with the entries out by an hour. Show up for every meeting one hour early, in case my PDA is wrong. Not acceptable.
I've played with both date settings on the ipod (one is the ipod date, one is the calendar date). And both settings on my computer (calendar time zone and computer time zone). My computer has a DST switch, ipod does not. I'm really begining to hate DST both on the impact it has for a human body to switch, but also all the crap it causes in a more and more and more technologically connected world. But I have to rely on a city selection choice, that ipod knows if it goes with DST or not??? I don't really trust Apple on that one, sorry, it seems they've not latched on to the concept of time correctly. So I don't trust their DST on or off decisions, that I can't tell if they've done or not. I can't find any GMT time zones, I can find UTC, but no number is beside it (I want to choose my offset number of the time zone I'm in).
While I like many kewl Apps the ipod touch has, the bottom line is, I need a PDA with a calendar. And I need a calendar that is accurate. And I don't want to enter 48 entries manaully in outlook 2007, when I can enter 52 with just one recurring effort, and delete 2 that don't work on a specific future day.
I don't want to arrive an hour early for a meeting, cause I can't trust if calendar entry is correct or out by an hour.
How can I tell if DST is on or off on the iPod (I do business monthly in an area that does not do DST). Playing around with time settings in my iPod to try to get most calendar items accurate with their time, but after a sync, it changes my time zone on the iPod to Phoenix. And I normally have it set to Calgary. I know Calgary is MST (with DST), but what is Phoenix? Why should I have to look up what time zone they are in, or do they do DST? Why does my ipod time zone change after a Sync!!!
I'm a small business owner, but if Apple is not ready for Prime time, someone please tell me. I have a 10 year old son who wants my new ipod toy, and I'm starting to feel it is only that, a toy, not yet ready for business.
Thank you for reading thus far

I can't understand this question, can you clarify?
By 'put a CD into itunes' did you mean you were viewing a CD in itunes or you had imported the tracks from the CD into your itunes library?
On what screen were you seeing 'no sync high lighted' and what does that mean?
Do you sync your entire library automatically with your ipod, do you need to select tracks to be automatically synced, or you manually manage your ipod's library?

  • Problems with syncing iPod touch with gtkpod, rhythmbox, banshee

I have an iPod Touch 3rd Gen. And I mount it with iFuse to ~/iPod.
gtkpod works and it does detect my iPod and most things seem to be working until I actually try doing things to the iPod. I tried deleting songs or adding new ones but gtkpod just outright quits. Can't figure out how to fix that.
So I tried others like rhythmbox and banshee and they don't even recognize my iPod.
I looked around and people say Clementine recognizes iPod even without iFuse. Tried it, doesn't recognize with or without iFuse.
I believe I installed all the necessary libraries such as libgpod or libimobiledevice and usbmuxd and etc.
I have iOS 5.1 on my iPod so I don't think it's the iPod's problem.
I just need a way to sync music to my iPod I don't really care what program I use anymore.
    Thanks.

The only way for me to solve the problem was to install gvfs. Which isn't quite what I wanted. I just wanted to use iFuse and gtkpod, but I don't have a solution except installing gvfs which mounts the iPod for me and clementine starts recognizing it  and I assume Rhythmbox and Banshee...etc will start working too. However, even though the programs recognize my iPod when i try to edit the songs in my iPod it won't let me. Clementine gave me an error and Rhythmbox just outright quits like gtkpod. Gtkpod's problem is still there. Tried deleting songs and when i saved changes it quits.
    Thanks for the help

  • How to sync ipod touch to new computer itunes library after old itunes library computer crash without wiping out "library" on ipod touch

how to sync ipod touch to new computer itunes library after old itunes library lost in computer crash, without erasing ipod touch

Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device. Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.

As for you own music, you may have to use a third party software. A good Free one is called Sharepod which you can download from Download.com here:

  • Any problems in syncing iPod Touch with new computer?

My wife's iBook died and now I need to switch her to a newer computer. She had been syncing her iPod Touch with the old computer and she also has an iTunes account. During the down time she has been entering calendar data directly into the iPod Touch.
When I get her backup data into the new computer what kind of problems will we encounter? Will it correctly sync her calendars and contacts? Can she move or close her iTunes account from the new computer? Thanks.

Before you scrap the old one, go into iTunes and deauthorize the computer. When you get the new one set up and ready to go, go back into iTunes and authorize the new computer.
I'm not sure how you plan to transfer your library, but a portable hard drive or a big memory stick do work well. Don't forget to copy over the xml file as well as that will preserve your settings in iTunes.

  • Syncing iPod Touch With iTunes

Recently encountered an error message when connecting iPod Touch to my Powerbook. Error says "iTunes cannot sync iPod Touch because syncing has been disabled on this computer." I get this error with two different iPod Touch's, a Gen 1 and a Gen 2. I cannot find any setting on my laptop where I have intentionally disabled syncing. Any ideas? Thanks.

Open iTunes first and go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and look for the check box "Disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods".

  • Sync ipod Touch with Windows Live Mail

Is there a way to Sync Ipod touch's information (calendars, contacts and such) with the new Windows Live Mail through Itune 8?

    No.
Windows Live Mail stores contacts and calendar info in a database format in file with an extension of *.edb. iTunes syncs with Outlook data stored in a *.pst file.

  • Sync iPod Touch with iTunes via bluetooth

I would like to sync my "touch" with iTunes via Bluetooth. This would eliminate the need to plug in the USB cable each time I carry out this activity. Can someone explain to me why Apple has decided not to implement this? Will the next release of iTunes support this? Or, does it require some kind of a third part app to do this?

it's currently not possible. bluetooth on the Touch supports headsets only.
as for the future, only Apple knows.

  • How do I automatically Sync IPod Touch with Outlook Calendar?

I am looking for ways to automatically sync my IPod Touch with my Outlook Calendar.  I used to be able to do this with MobileMe but the new MobileMe calendar has messed it all up.  The MobileMe calendar's interface with Outlook makes it so that I would have to manage two separate calendars.  All I want to be able to do is enter events into my IPod touch and have it sync with Outlook without my having to do it manually.  Anyone know of another software that I could use?

    Hi,
I don't know about syncing what you put on your iPod's Calendar to Outlook, but under Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars, you can sync Outlook with your iPod.
    Hope this helps!

  • Syncing ipod touch with more than one computer

I have a home computer and an office computer. My home computer has all my music, podcasts, etc. and when I sync my Ipod Touch with it, everything gets on the Ipod Touch. However when I then want to sync my Ipod Touch with my office computer, mainly to sync Ical and Address Book, it removes all the stuff (music, podcasts) from the Touch that is not on the Office computer. I've tried using Preferences and the Info tab to set things so that this wouldn't happen. I.e., trying just to sync Ical and Address Book but it keeps syncing Music and removing stuff I don't want removed from the Touch. What can be done?

Maybe if you subscribe to MobileMe you can do this?

  • Manually Syncing iPod Touch With iTunes

On my old iPod Classic I had it set up where I could download music into iTunes and manually drag the album to my iPod. I can't remember how to set it up so I can do that with my iPod Touch. Right now it is syncing automatically and I don't want it to do that. I want to be able to load music from iTunes to my iPod and then delete them off of iTunes. but I also want them to stay on my iPod after I delete them from iTunes.

Check the Manually manage music box.

  • HELP Syncing ipod touch with itunes on pc

Once ive conected the ipod to the pc and start syncing it puts around 30-70 songs on then an Erorr message comes up, saying "canot read from or write to", the usual message that alot of people seem to be getting.
Just wondering if there is any fix for this or anything you can do to stop it from happening, done all the usual stuff reset, removal of itunes & re install etc. Im really losing my rag with it know and may take it back & get a refund. Any help much appriciated.

I've actually found something very strange happening with the iPod Touch. When I first got it, I was completely happy ... then something went wrong, I had to do a restore. After the restore I had a dimming backlight!! - Something which I'd never had previous to doing the restore. I think my iPod shipped with in-complete firmware (not visable to the naked-eye).
Anyway, to answer your question, I would do just that. I'd click on your iPOd Touch on the left pane in iTunes, and click 'Restore'.
See if syncing is fully 'restored' after this.
Hope this experience of mine, and this advice, helps you.
