Issue with the iTunes 10.6 update

I updated my iTunes to version 10.6.  I am running on Windows 7 Pro, SP1.  After installing the new version, I was no longer able to access the iTunes Store nor play any "radio" web sites.
In an attempt to remedy this issue, I uninstalled the 10.6 version and reinstalled it's 10.5 predecessor.  However, upon executing version 10.5, I was presented with an error message stating the iTunes library was reformatted by a newer version (10.6, I presume) and it failed to work and closed.
Has anyone experienced this?  Is or has there been  a service interruption with Apple's web services?  Any suggestions?

Thanks for the heads up on the Autorun software.  It appears the remnants of an old version of Computer Associates anti-virus software still lingers within my system.  I had removed it (or so I thought) 2 years ago from my system for a different AV software. Employing Microsoft's Autoruns, I spoted entries in Winsock providers category that showed CA entries.  A simple deletion of these services proved to be the wrong course.  Upon removing them, Windows "hung" at boot time and I had to resort to a Safe Mode boot and invoke a previous restore point.  Upon closer review of the other registry entries, I spotted many more CA modules.  I shall need to surgeons' knife and steady hand to remove the remaining remnants of this old software--something I shall set aside for the time being so I can properly prepare for that "surgery".
Thanks for all the suggestions; it is most appreciated

  • Anybody have issues with the iTunes 7.1 update and Logic?

    Scenerio:
Working happily in Logic Pro. Software Update appears with available updates to iTunes and Quicktime. I needed a break from editing, so I accpeted the update.
Immediately relaunched Logic Pro and at the Updating the Tree stage my machine freezes, with the following message appearing in four languages:
"You need to restart you computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the restart button."
Chances are overwhelming that this is directly related to the 2 updates, with the iTunes update being the likely culprit, in my opinion
I repaired permissions which had no effect.
    What should I try next?

    Hi,
MacFixit has reports from several readers reporting Kernel panics after updating:
Kernel panics after updating Some users are reporting kernel panics that appear after installing QuickTime 7.1.5.
    MacFixIt reader Ian Soper writes:
"I had a kernel panic this morning after I installed the itunes and quicktime updates that apple released last night. Last night after installing the updates I shut my machine down and then this morning I powered it up and got a kernel panic (gray screen with various languages telling me how to power down my computer). I don't think there was anything else that I did to my computer last night that could have affected this."
If you are experiencing similar issues, you may want to investigate some of the solutions listed in our tutorial "Avoiding and eliminating Kernel panics."
Go to the website and follow the link attached to the text "Avoiding and eliminating Kernel panics."

  • Is iTunes now compatible with Windows 8 with the iTunes 11.0 update?

Is iTunes now compatible with Windows 8 with the iTunes 11.0 update?

Problem solved. The music was from Amazon MP3 store and I had to re-download it from the Amazon Cloud Player to my hard drive. It was there, but not even the Amazon Cloud Player software would play it from my PC, though it would from the Cloud. So after the re-download, I was able to add it to my iTunes Library.

  • Has anyone had issues with the latest i-tunes update 11.1.4 on Windows Vista

I downloaded the update on 24th Jan, and when I tried to open i-tunes after that it failed to start and the message was MSVCR80.dll and the window suggested that I remove and re-install i-tunes.
I did this and then my CD/DVD drive was not recognised. I then decided to go for a system restore prior to the update. When I did this i-tunes worked again but a window opens every 30seconds saying 'Mobile device helper is not working'  At one point I had 116 windows open. Has anyone else had this problem or can offer any advice please? I have an i-pod classic and my system is windows vista which is approx 8yrs old. I have never had any problem with i-tunes updates before.

Try using these directions on this link: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926 or http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
This resolved my issue with the new update on Vista.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)

  • TS1702 Is anyone else having issues with the most recent Facebook update? I updated it yesterday and now it won't open. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app, but it still fails to open! Any suggestions?

Is anyone else having issues with the most recent Facebook app update? I updated it on my iPad 2 yesterday, now it will not open app at all. I have restarted iPad, uninstalled app and reinstalled, several times and still it will not work! Any suggestions? I have also closed the append still no results!

I just started having this yesterday.  It's only happened twice, but it's annoying.  My wife texted me that she was coming home last night, and it showed up immediately on my iPod Touch but not my iPhone. I opened my iPhone and it soon updated.  Worked fine after that.  Then just a moment ago today my wife texted me and the same thing happened.  I heard my iMac and iPod Touch receive the message but it didn't display on my phone until I opened the phone and it showed up again a little bit thereafter.  I suppose I'll send Apple some feedback on this issue.

  • Has anyone had issues with the most recent Yosemite update

I installed Yosemite October of 2014 mainly because I needed to update itunes to continue to help my daughter maintain her music files. Anyway the reason hardly matters. My computer and Yosemite did not get along. Posted up a file of my computer condition for people to look at here and the basic recommendation was to delete this that and the other thing. So I did that and the computer worked somewhat better. However I really am not sure if it was working better because Apple had been making progress with Yosemite ironing out Yosemite bugs. I had not reinstalled any of the software that it was recommended I delete back in October. So I doubt that is an issue.
Two weeks ago while updating, generally, a Yosemite update started downloading to my computer. It is now running 10.10.2.
Since then Mozilla crashes about five times a day and runs very slowly most of the time. Wondering if there is anything I can do or should I just wait it out...hope for the bestv AGAIN. I am encouraged by the fact that over time from October to mid February, Yosemite and my computer kept getting along better and batter. Since the update I am more or less back to square 1 as far as general speed and functionality and behind the eight ball as far as Miozilla goes as it is crashing constantly.
I also do not like how update files are identified in Yosemite. There are times when all you get is a notification that there are updates ready with no identification of what they are. Had I known that was a Yosemite update, I would  not have touched it. What is up with this no identification of update files? Trying to ambush us now because people are beginning to avoid their updates? Good grief Apple.
Anyway....any ideas? Just wait it out? Hope Apple gets back on a path of bug fixes for Yosemite? Anybody with a quick fix for this one?

Automatically checking for updates is not the same thing as automatically installing updates and even automatically downloading updates is not the same thing as automatically installing updates. If Apple has now decided to describe them and implement them that way ....that is a mistake!
Here is what I have in my App store preferences although I repeat, I have never changed anything. What items are selected there are the items selected ions ago or defaulted in possibly with iTunes 12.0 installed and I was always in the past been given the opportunity to view any updates BEFORE They installed.
"Automatically check for updates" is checked. That should not cause an issue of any kind. If it is that is a problem not of my making!
"Download newly available updates in the background" is checked with an additional descriptive line of information that reads "you will be notified when the updates are ready to be installed" I was going to uncheck this. Although I did not ever go to this location and change my settings which leads me to believe that this is a default choice in Yosemite or iTunes 12.0 as this is not the way I am used to my updates either coming to me or being installed
"Install app updates" is checked ...Really....with permission, without permission, with notification? What the heck does this line really mean? Going to uncheck this
"Install OS X updates" IS NOT CHECKED
"Install system data files and security updates" is checked. This is another one that I am going to uncheck
"Automatically download apps purchased on other macs" is not checked
This system clearly Installed an OS X update without even asking me if I wanted it installed regardless of the fact the box is not even checked. So I have no idea how it managed to do that when the check box for OS X updates is not checked. A big OS X screen came up as the thing started installing leaving little doubt what it was at the point of being too late to do anything about it
There is an interesting element to the relationship between "Download newly available updates in the background" and "Install app updates". If you uncheck the former, a check immediately appears in the box for the latter and the box ix grayed out preventing you from making further changes. So your options are for updates to be downloaded in the background or have updates installed without prior notification. What the heck kind of a choice is that?
I am going to uncheck all of these for the time being except "automatic checking" and "Download newly available updates in the background". The former  should not cause a problem and has never in the past caused a problem. Seems to me that I am forced to the latter for now. However to be perfectly honest i no longer have any idea what Apple is doing and I am not completely convinced that they know either.....not any more
I am going to go to Apple Tech Support and get full descriptions from them as it appears possible that they have changed their definitions and descriptive materials with regard to update activity either in Yosemite or iTunes.
Finally, this issue with automatic checking has nothing to do with Mozilla crashing five times a day in Yosemite. That is a separate problem and I guess I am just going to have to hope that Apple Yosemite bug fixes brings this back under control.

  • ITunes 10.5: Permission issue with the iTunes Library file...

Ok all, I have a strange and potentially problematic issue.
Background: Recently upgraded to thee latest 10.5 iTunes along with OSX 10.7.2 and iOS 5 on my iPhone.  My iTunes library is large - almost 300,000 songs, but have not had any issues until after the upgrade - except for the sluggishness of the progam (which apprears to be normal once you reach a certain point) as well as limitations with Genuis which I've not been able to resolve in any version.  I also have a fairly elaborate Playlist setup which I've refined over the past couple of years.  My iTunes library resides lookly in the default location under Music and the Media Folder sits on 3TB external.  Note that everything has worked fine up until now...
Anyway, this is just a quick background - and also to set the stage for any suggestions that might involve a 'random' rebuild of the iTunes library as it would involve a massive effort.
Problem:  Very intermittantly while playing music I will get an error pop up "Itunes library cannot be saved. A folder was specified instead of a file".  Otherwise everything appears working - playcounts are updated and reflected in my SmartPlaylist while I pay, lyrics seem to be added as I play (via TuneText), etc - and all syncs fine with the iPhone.
Now if I shut down iTunes when this happens and try and reopen, I will get the error "The iTunes Application cannot be opened, an unknown error occured (13014)."  Now if I look at the permissions of the iTunes Library database it shows "You have unknown access".   Note the permissions of all other files are ok.
In the past to correct this I've pulled back an earlier version of the Library from my Time Machine which of course is not ideal. I've also set up a parallel library about a year ago which can open fine (I use this other one to stage the music before importing into my main one in that the main is too slow to edit anything major).
So far I've tried Repairing Permissions and reinstalling the iTunes.app but the intermittant problem is not resolved.

****...After days of new issues, the problem returned again this morning!! Both the iTunes Library and iTunes Library.itl showing with unknown permissions.
To answer your question whop, yes when I rebuilt my entire library, I started afresh and rebuilt my .itl file with all the playlists, etc.
What is interesting with the problem I just noted now while writing this entry here, repaired permissions with Disk Utility and it corrected the unknown permission error.  I cannot see anything in the report though (below) that ties to these specifically being repaired.
Not sure where to go with this....

  • Having Multiple Issues with the 3.0 firmware update.

Just thought I would share a copy of my feedback here to see if anyone else is having some of the 5 issues I am having since I upgraded. I have been "using" (more like fighting with) the 3.0 update since its release. Here is what I sent to apple (most of it):
+I purchased the 3.0 update almost the day it was released. I have now used my iPod Touch a couple of months and I must say that there are some serious issues that need to be addressed, and soon. And a google search seems to show I am not the only one with problems, including those listed in your very own forums. So in order to make sure that I go through proper channels, I will list them here:+
+1) WiFi Connectivity. Since the upgrade, my iPod drops wifi connections for no apparent reason. Wifi says its connected and can't access pages. It seems to turn on/off randomly, even when I am only 5 feet from the router. I have followed directions for resetting the network, restarting my router, wiping the iPod and even did a complete restore of the 3.0 firmware. Still the same issues. These were not issues in version 2.2.1.+
+2) YouTube (or more aptly the application that plays YouTube videos) keeps hanging up. The progress bar that shows how much of the video has been buffered will go somewhere between 30 and 75 percent complete, then hang. the video will play to that point and stop. In order to get past that point I have to close the video app and reload the clip, then I have to move the location "dot" to where it stopped so it will buffer from there. If I do not move it, guess what, it stops at the same exact frame the second time around. Also the buffer progress moves forward, and then sometimes jumps all the way back for no reason. This was not an issue in 2.2.1.+
+3) Screen rotation seems to only work about 2/3 of the time. Sometimes in Safari, I will rotate the screen and it will still say where it was and my only remedy is to restart Safari.+
+4) Battery life is shorter. Now I know the batteries wear out over time, but a 30% decrease in battery life since the very day I installed the update is not coincidence. I have disabled push applications and even wifi, and still have a decrease in battery life with no change in use. Again, this was not an issue in 2.2.1+
+5) System hang-ups. Even with just the apps that come with the iPod (no 3rd party apps from App Store) I still get system locks that force me to power off the ipod and restart it. Even with almost all my ipod full of App Store apps and audio/video I did not have this problem in 2.2.1+
+I have read the forums, tried the apple posted fixes and still have not seen any of these problems resolved. My frustrations with the iPod Touch 3.0 upgrade have left me with a sour Apple taste in my mouth.+
+To be very honest, I am a PC person. Many have tried to convert me to Apple. The iPod was a business tool so I could carry videos with me to show prospective clients what I could do, even make an impromptu demonstration. I refuse to use AT&T as a carrier, so an iPhone was out of the question. Up until 3.0 I was quite happy with my iPod, now it is left home on my desk more than in a pouch next to my cell phone. After all the hype about Apple being so much better than a PC for reliability, service and stability, I cannot say that I am very impressed. It may be a long while before I try another Apple product.+

You probably did everything except upgrading your router or your router firmware. 3.0 is very sensitive to outdated router firmware and will exhibit the problems you have experienced.
+2) YouTube (or more aptly the application that plays YouTube videos) keeps hanging up...
See #1. YouTube functionality is highly dependent on WiFi connectivity.
+3) Screen rotation seems to only work about 2/3 of the time. Sometimes in Safari, I will rotate the screen and it will still say where it was and my only remedy is to restart Safari.+
Mine has done this a few times as well. A restart or reset usually corrects the problem.
+4) Battery life is shorter. Now I know the batteries wear out over time, but a 30% decrease in battery life since the very day I installed the update is not coincidence. I have disabled push applications and even wifi, and still have a decrease in battery life with no change in use. Again, this was not an issue in 2.2.1+
There have been sporadic problems reported but I have never experienced anything like this. Restoring the iPod as new will rule out software issues.
+5) System hang-ups. Even with just the apps that come with the iPod (no 3rd party apps from App Store) I still get system locks that force me to power off the ipod and restart it. Even with almost all my ipod full of App Store apps and audio/video I did not have this problem in 2.2.1+
Again, a restore as new will correct 99+ percent of these. You can always force kill an app by holding down the Home button until you return to the home screen. This will keep you from having to restart.
+I have read the forums, tried the apple posted fixes and still have not seen any of these problems resolved. My frustrations with the iPod Touch 3.0 upgrade have left me with a sour Apple taste in my mouth.+
Apple doesn't post fixes except in the Tech Library. Search Support and you will find lots of helpful articles to correct issues.

This is really too bad. I've used PCs for years and really never have suffered too badly from the experience - but I'm a fanatic about keeping my OS updated, virus scans current, and firewalls working. And throw in malware scans as well. I've also found most users don't have a clue how to keep their PCs "clean".
A year and a half ago, I bought an iMac and could not be happier and less worried about all of the potential PC threats out there.

  • Issues with the iTunes store

I am trying to make a purchase and I get the following error:
we could not complete your itunes store request. there is not enough memory available.
I have already uninstalled and installed the application and I continue to get the same error message. But the funny thing is taht I am able to update my podcast subscription.
Any help in this would be great.

I just got an email from iTunes support and was told that they couldn't help me because it was outside the scope of thier duties and directed me to the discussions board.
What really ****** me off is that there are alot of posting about this issue but nobody seems to have an answer. I am still waiting for another answer from the iTunes support rep. Let me know if you get some news on how to fix this issue.

  • Issues with the latest N86 software update

As the title says, i updated my n86 software to the latest version with the pre-instaled application in my phone..And then the troubles started...The themes effects such as fading when rotating the screen takes like 10 and i repeat 10 second to finish, the camera starts after too much time and i'm always asked to connect to the internet..what happened?
With the 11.43 software i did not found any problem..suggestions?

The light sometimes remains on, even if i lock the keypad. Beside this, i noticed take my battery lasts like 1 hour while the light is on. This happens few times, but is really annoying.. Also, i now that the theme effects are not essential, but i want to keep my phone fully functional, so i'd like to know what's this issue about..
@metalfan I didn't expected a quick answer, i was only preoccupied for these problems
How can i to restore the original firmware?
I tried to remove my sim(also i don't use a memory card), but nothing changes...

  • Is there a known issue with the apple app store update page for th ipad?

Is anyone else getting the ipad app store update page problems?
When i go to that page on my ipad i get an error " cannot connect to itunes store " but im allowed to still browse the store. Just cant update my items through he update page..... I do have full bars on my wifi :)

I'm not sure that either of these will work, but you can give them a try.
Sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in and then try to update again.
You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your app preferences and device settings again.
Here is the Apple help article for more advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting steps. You might want to look at this.

I don't think that this will be the issue - but it can't hurt to look and make sure.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first.

  • Having an issue with the latest Indesign CC update and Easy Catalog plugin.

After the latest CC update I had this strange behavior start occuring. I have multiple pages that load in data and images via Easy Catalog, I've been using the same pages for years without any issues, within the past couple days I've noticed that now, when I run "Update Easy Catalog Fields" on a book all of the images get loaded in at about 25% of their size. If I instead run "Update Document" on a single file it loads in correctly. Any one else having similar issues?

Have you contacted Tech Support for 65bit Software, who make Easy Catalog?

  • Anyone have issues with the most recent iPad updates?

Since the last iPad update a few days ago, it seemed to have crashed my iPad.  I was told to reset my iPad to original factory settings.  After doing so, I now have no sound to all of my Facebook games.  How do I complain and fix this situation?

  • Connectivity issues with the 10.4.7 update????

    Hello all,
Just wondering, has anybody else out there been having problems connecting using WPA or WEP after applying the latest 10.4.7 update on the Macbook?
I have a Dlink DI-524 router connecting 3 WinXP PCs, 1 Macbook, and 1 Ubuntu Linux machine and cannot get the Macbook to connect to the router/network. All other machines have no problems. It will only connect when the encryption is removed. I had zero problems before this patch. Thanks for you help.

Thanks all for your help but I may have found something. I "downgraded" my firmware on my Dlink DI-524 from the current "3.20" back to its original as shipped version of "3.02" and only enabled wpa for security and using the static IP DHCP addressing by mac id assignment enabled. I picked up the tip from another posting on this forum. Do a search for "di-524" and you will find it.
I have left mac id filtering off, ssid broadcasting on, "g" version only. So far it has held onto the network and has reconnected on its own after sleeping and restarting. I will do some more testing and give my results.

that wont appear until at&t updates their profile to activate MMS... the feature has been there since 3.0 just waiting on at&t to activate it
    no vibrate when moving apps
that was in the first couple betas i think... looks like it got axed before final
    no tethering, nothing..
this is up to at&t as well... once they decide how much to charge us for a tiny amount of usage then they will enable this feature via profile update as well.
    be well
