Issue working with states (FW CS5)

Hi all,
Here's my thing: when I save a file and open it up again some time later, all the pages will be set in in the first state (which is shown at the top of the states panel). That's very inconvenient for me. I'd like the page to stay in the state in which I put it. Is there a solution or a workaround?
Another thing what's happening when I open up a saved document, is that some objects don't show themselves when I activate a different state of the page where the object is placed upon. It's showing up only after double clicking the object (and open up the object view, the page is grayed out) and the return to the page view. Pretty unhandy.
Also when saving: FW will always show the first page in the document, not the last page I've worked on. I'd like it to see that specific page.
Any help would be appreciated very much.

thanks for your reply, but it doesn't solve my problem. I'm not putting pages on states. I do add states to pages. My main issue now is this:

However, the Camera Raw versions will not match - meaning you may have to render your file into a tiff to bake-in your LR Settings before passing the file to PS CS5,

I have edited my movie in premiere pro cs5.5 and made the rough cut. In premiere, i have edited the video, put in soundtrack and foley. Now, i need to add muzzle flashes & blood splatters in some scenes and final color correction using After Effects cs5.
When i import the premiere project in AE and make the changes, and then i export it back as premiere project. When i open this prmiere project, it shows vaious kind of errors and no changes are retained that i did in AE. Also, when i import the premiere project (which has 4 different sequences) in AE, all the media that has been imported in the premiere project also opens in AE making it difficult to organize the media.
How should i work now so that i add vfx and color correction using AE cs5?
I thought of exporting the video from Premiere pro and then open the video in AE and add vfx to some scenes and color correction to the full video and render it out again. But, this is the first time i am using AE and i am not sure if this is the best way. PLEASE HELP.
Or, i could import the whole project in AE, add vfx, do color correction AND then export to video from AE. But i think, it will be better if i export the video from Premiere as it has loads of options to choose from while exporting to a movie.
The dynamic link does not work between Premiere Pro Cs5.5 and After Effects cs5. Even if it does, its not working on my pc.
All the footage is in HD and i want the final result in best quality HD too. PLEASE Help!

If you are working between After Effects and Premiere Pro but with versions that are not the same number, you need to just work with movies rendered and exported as intermediate, lossless files.
Dynamic Link only works between After Effects and Premiere Pro of the same version number, and only when they are installed as part of the same suite.

Switching tabs while working with Premiere Pro CS5

Hello there.
I am currently working with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 and I notice that when I'm reproducing/previewing the timeline or am recording, for example, an audio track, everytime I switch tabs (switch to another window or to desktop), in this case the recording stops. I've searched around Preferences and in help files and I cannot find an option to make Premiere continue what he's doing despite me changing windows. Is this even possible? It would be very helpful.

Will ATI Radeon HD 5800 card work with Premier Pro CS5 Mercury engine?

I've been using Premeier Elements 7 for the last 2 years and am about to buy Premeier Pro CS5. But having read the video card requirements I'm confused.
Will my video card work with PP CS5 and the Mercury playback engine? My card is the ATI Radeon HD 5800 with 1 gig memory?
The dealer specifically sold me that 18 months ago so I would be able to move to Premiere Pro with no problem. I have an Intel Core 17 with 10 gigs of ram and a great ASUS motherboard.

Thanks for the reply. I checked my RAM and in fact it is 12 gigs. I got it put in 18 months ago when I bought the system. I had to use Windows XP back then. Anyway, I now need to change to Windows 7 and Premiere Pro.
I had no idea back then that I was buy the wrong video card for Premiere Pro.
I am not familiar with the terms you and the other two respondants have used in your replies, and I have no idea what it means that my system will run 10 times slower than if I had a NVIDIA, whatever it means it sounds bad. Which is really too bad because I spent a small fortune buying one of the fastest card available at the time.
What do you suggest I now do?
1) Just use my system as is? It sounds like my performance will be terrible, so should I really go this route? I will be editing MPG2 codec from a Canon XF100 shot at 50 mbps.
2) Should I try to sell off my ATI card and buy one of the recommended cards?
3) Should I just go to the Sony Vega Pro systems?
Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

PDF to complicated to work with in Illustrator CS5?

I'm working with a land surveying company that has provided me with a PDF of one of the surveys they've done. I'm pretty sure this was done in a CAD program and saved as a PDF. The PDF is 5.5 MBs large. I'd like to use part of this image as a background effect for their website. Unfortunately, everytime I import it into Illustrator my Mac Pro with 6 GBs of memory literally chokes on the file—probably because it's very complicated. I tired optimizing the PDF with Acrobat Pro, but that didn't work. I can't rasterize it because I need the detail.
Any other ideas?

Which format do you want to use on the website?
Most probably it will be a raster format anyway. So if nothing else works, open the file in Acrobat, take some screenshots and stitch them together n Photoshop.
Did you re-launch Illutrator directly before opening the file in order to clear the cache?
Place the file in a new file instead of opening it and then export only a part of it as a raster file?

HELP - PULL-DOWN ISSUE WORKING WITH ARCHIVAL FILM IN 24P

Bear with me here... I'm working on a historical doc for a local PBS station. Camera footage was originated using the HDX 200 in 720p-24n. Much of the program uses old 16mm film that's been xfer'd to an uncompressed video file using the 16mm "Sniper" (a psuedo-telecine transfer system. The system scans the film frames into a pc one at a time and stores the images as a single movie file using a proprietary codec). You can tell the Sniper's software what frame rate the original film footage was shot at - i.e. 18fps, 24fps and so-on. However, when you export it back out it only outputs to a 29.97 interlaced file.
Here's the problem: The film I'm working with was originated at 18fps - not 24. But, I'm working with a 24p sequence. I need to convert the footage so that it plays cleanly in a 24p environment. But I can't run it through CT and do a reverse telecine to remove the pull-down because that's designed for footage that was originated at 24fps only. When I try to do it on footage that was shot at 18fps, I end up with a wierd flashing/banding thing as it tries to apply a 24 frame pull-down to an 18 frame image.
I'm thinking that there has to be a plug-in either for FCP, CT or for the Sniper that can work a pull-down from 18fps film to 24p video.
Anyone have any ideas?

Yeah, I thoought of that. But I kinda wanted to keep the program in native 24p if I could.
If I did it that way, wouldn't I have to go ahead and edit the program in 24p, then export it out at 29.97, then re-import it into a 29.97 Sequence and finally add the archive material?

Scroll wheel zoom no longer works with Lasso in CS5

I've been scouring the forums and found that this issue was raised almost a year ago, but it seems it still hasn't been dealt with. How can this be? Why would an "upgrade" remove funcionality that existed in previous versions of the software? Have since upgraded to CS5.5 and still no solution. Has anyone found a way to restore this functionality?

Seriously, no one has anything on this? I know I'm not the only person who misses this. How is it there is still no solution here? Was the functionality actively removed because people complained that it worked too well? Is the plan to re introduce it in CS6, and call it new? I went from CS3 to CS5.5 and the only difference i've noticed is this step backwards. Oh and the rediculously useless default tab setting. Maybe I'll just re-install CS3? Is that my only option?

IMPORT issues: Works with iMovie 3 but not iMovie 6 ???

Okay, still trying to get my import issue resolved.
I have a SONY HDR-HC3 DVmini.
No problems with iMovie 3 on my Powerbook.
iMovie 6 on my MDD will let me control the camera, but the screen stays BLUE with no IMPORT.
My buddy thinks it might be a Quicktime issue.
He said to download Quicktime Pro, that might resolve this issue.
I can copy the iMovie 3 file to my machine with iMovie 6 and do the editing, just not the importing...

Often Camera has to be connected to Charger/mains during Capture.
An majority is a faulthy - badly connected FW-Cable (USB don't work at all)
My list on this
*NO CAMERA or A/D-box*
Cable
• Sure that You use the FireWire - USB will not work for miniDV tape Cameras
FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin FW one ?
• Test another FW-Cable very often the problem maker.
Camera
• Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
• Toogle in iMovie pref. Play-back via Camera (on<->off some times)
• Some Cameras has a Menu where You must select DV-out to get it to work
• Camera connected to "charger" (mains adaptor) - not just on battery

Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.
(Hard to find out - else than import/export to another Mac ceased to work
everything else is OK eg recording and playback to TV)

• Daisy Chaining most often doesn’t work (some unique cases - it’s the only way that work (some Canon Cameras ?))
Try to avoid connecting Camera <--> external HD <--> Mac but import directly to the Mac then move
the Movie project to dedicated external hard disk.

(Other hard disks don't count)
I go for a minmum of 25Gb free space for 4x3 SD Video - and my guess is 5 times more for 16x9 HD ones

• Delete iMovie pref file may help sometimes. I rather start a new account, log into this and have a re-try.
• Any strange Plug-ins into QuickTime as Perian etc ? Remove and try again.

• QuickTime version ? (This is the heart in both iMovie and FinalCut)

• Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY
but they costed about 2-4 times a normal miniDV Camera.
• If Your Camera works on another Mac. Make an iMovie movie project here and move it
over to Your Mac via an external hard disk.
(HAS TO BE Mac OS Extended formatted - USB/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange WILL NOT DO)

Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos) to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before. Thank you. LKN 1935

Thanks for all your suggestions. What I learned is that I had a software problem. I had something called "Nikon Transfer" on my Mac that was recognizing my Canon camcorder as a still camera and was preventing iMovie from working properly. After uninstalling Nikon Transfer and doing a reboot, everything worked great.
I never liked the Nikon Transfer software anyway--I guess I'll get a cheap card reader and use that to transfer photos in the future.

The problem was the external backup hard drive that is connected, you need to disconect the external drive before the mac can see the video camera.

Issues working with Attachments in Outlook 2010

I have 2, possibly related, problems with Outlook 2010 and email attachments.
1/ When opening a mail with attachments I cannot drag multiple attachments out to save in a folder at once. the first attachment selected will be saved, but not subsequent ones. Nor can I do a multiple-select and Save As via the right-click menu.
The only way around this I have found is to drag or save each document individually
2/ When opening Excel sheets (Excel 2010) directly from email, the first sheet will open normally. But if I try to open a second sheet, whether from the same email or a different one, the second sheet doesn't open.
The only work-around i have found is to close the first sheet I opened and/or to save the second sheet to disk and then open it explicitly in a new copy of Excel
Can you give me any help in resolving these annoying behaviours?

R1. If we open the email with attachments, on the Message tab, in the
Actions group, click Other Actions, and then select
Save All Attachments, will all the attachment been saved?
R2. Did you get any error message when the second sheet failed to open? Please open one Excel file, click File > Options > Advanced and then scroll down to
General section. Clear the option “Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)” and then check the issue again.
In addition, we can try to run Outlook in safe mode to check the result. Press Windows key + R, type
outlook.exe /safe in the Run dialog and press Enter.
Also try to clear Outlook Secure Temp folder to check the result. See:

Issue working with a htmlb Tray

I have a tray in an iView with some data in it. I am trying to query the state of the tray in order to preserve the persistence of if the tray is collapsed or not so the state is the same after a page refresh.
I tried doing the follow (as I have for all other components):
Tray textTray = (Tray) getComponentByName("textTray");
if (textTray != null)
bean.setTextTrayIsCollapsed(textTray.isCollapsed());
}
In order to fetch the component information form the jsp page and save it in a bean...
I noticed this never worked and when I debugged it I found that the textTray tray object was always null.
I tossed this line and debugged:
Component comps[] = getComponents();
and found that the tray object never appears in the array of components.
I was wondering if anyone knew how to access this tray in my iView. I think I have found a work around if not using the onCollapse event but would like to keep things the same if possible.

Hi,
Only components of a form are available in the java part of the code, as only their values are submitted for the HTTP post/get event.
You will need to do some client side javascripting in order to get the tray status I believe, and would than have to make the value found part of the form that is submitted (using standard html you would update an input field of type="hidden", but I am not quite sure how you do it htmlb).

Issue working with Interactive Reporting and Metaread option on Essbase 11

I can´t see members/Generations of Essbase using the OLAP Query Object in Interactive Reporting, when Essbase Filters ( Metaread ) were applied on Dimensions
Versions:
Interactive Reporting 11 / Essbase 11
Comments:
- If I’m connected, with an Admin user who don't have Metaread Filter Security it works fine.
Tests:
- I do a test when I connect my query to Essbase 9.2, it works fine and I can see the members and generations without problems.
It seems that could be a bug, did you have any ideas about what would happened with the Essbase 11.1.2 that IR could not interpret the same way as Essbase 9.2 do

Issues Working with Results of GetWebAnalyticsReportData(Global.Site,Global.ReportLevel,"TopPageForPageReport",$B4,$B5)

I created a custom Web Analytics Report in SharePoint. I went into the associated Excel file and tried to perform a vlookup to modify the report. No matter what I do, all references to any cell in the result ALWAYS end up as 0. I tried just doing a direct
reference to a cell and the result is 0. I tried changing the value to TEXT and it still is a 0.
So for example:
The returned array covers A31 to D2030. If I go to some random cell in the workbook and enter "=A32" instead of returning the value in the cell (or even the formula), it returns 0. It doesn't matter what is in the cell, whether text or number.
The formula in the cells are "=IFERROR(GetWebAnalyticsReportData(Global.Site,Global.ReportLevel,"TopPageForPageReport",$B4,$B5),$A31:$D2030)
The value in A32 is the URL of a aspx page.
I wanted to use a VLOOKUP to make the chart more readable since the URL is quite long and I wanted to strip out the common portion of the URL

According to your description, Excel formula not working in the web analytics report.
I tried to open a “Site Web Analytics Reports - Top Visitors” report in the desktop Office application, select an empty cell, input something like “=D4”, it is populated
with the value of D4 cell immediately.
By default, SharePoint Web Analytics Service produce the analytics data and save it in an Excel file, then we should be able to manipulate this Excel file with its
data as what we do in a normal Excel file.
To narrow down the issue, I would suggest you create a new Excel file with some data in your local machine or other machines, test some simple formulas on it to see
if it is an issue of the desktop Office application.
Feel free to reply if there any progress.

Preview issue working with a locked PDF file

I am able to open and view a locked PDF file using the Preview application. Unfortunately, searching does not work within the locked PDF. Opening this locked PDF in Adobe reader does allow searching to work.
Does anyone know why Preview cannot search a locked PDF even though it does appear to open successfully?

Hi RichGory & welcome to the forums.
Preview with Snow Leopard is very different.
If searching is critical to your workflow, best to move to Acrobat.

Issues Working With Audio

Has anyone worked out something for these situations?
1: I have source footage with 2 tracks ... dual mono... wireless mic 1 and wireless mic 2. I edit the clip into a Project (set up as Stereo out) and need to balance the two audio clips. I can select the clip ... set it to Dual Mono in the inspector... and Pan Left/Right. But to adjust the levels of the individual channels it seems I have to right click on the clip in time line and select "Open In TimeLine". Now I see the 2 channels. The Format settings need to re-set to dual Mono and pan settings to Stereo Left / Right .... now I can Pan the tracks and set a Level Envelope curve for each on the timeline... but can't hear the rest of the Program Mix!!!
Is there a way to just get all of clips's audio tracks to show in the Main Timeline. Expand doesn't seem to do it? Seems soooo basic.
2: If Im editing video and audio into the timeline how do I choose which audio tracks to edit into the program. I see how to select Audio / Video or both .... but if I just want one track? Do I have to keep switching audio tracks on and off in the Source clip via the inspector?
