Issue X200s and ultrabase : sounds beep in sleeping mode

hello all,
My problem consist in desactivation of beep sounds when i plug my computer Lenovo X200s in docking station after sleep mode. description of problem :
-My computer is plugged in docking station,
-I activate the sleep mode,
-I undock my computer,
-I dock my computer and push the start button.
At this time, computer beep very strongly and the only one solution is to undock the computer.
I just have this problem with the sleep mode.
If i do the same with a lenovo T400, i don't have the problem. Anyone have an idea to stop this beep (i'm sure that is a security but we prefer no sound rather than this one!! ;-)
For your information, I already check windows power settings and lenovo power setting but I dind't find anything!!
Best regards;-)

the option to enable/disable power-status-change beeps is in the BIOS of the X200... somewhere.
press the Thinkvantage button at startup when the screen says it is suitable to do so, and then follow the on-screen instructions to access the BIOS.
if you have configured a BIOS password, you may need to enter it.
i am currently insufficiently motivated to shut down my X200 to look for the options menu location. if you need help, please ask and then i'll look for it.

I occasionally have issues waking my macbook pro up from sleep mode resulting in my need to restart the computer. I dislike all of my programs opening at once when I do get the computer started becasue it slows the cpu down. The apple store replaced the sleep part but the problem is still there. Note: i never had this problem with snow leopard

I'm not certain but my new MBA 13...when in sleep mode comes back on from a black screen when I simply click on the left mouse button. Also, one time I did a SECURE EMPTY TRASH on files that totalled more than 1GB and it took so long that the fan kept increasing in speed so I pressed on the POWER button and the MBA shut...I was able to boot up with no problem. As a rule, I now only do secured erases for trash bin data totalling 500mb or less...anything above that gets a regular erase (dump).

  • Since I upgraded to OS 10.6.8 from 10.5.x my 2x3GHz quad-core Intel Xeon desktop spontaneously turns off as if I pulled the plug. Mostly it happens when there is no open software and it's in the sleep mode, but it has happened while I'm working.

Since I upgraded to OS 10.6.8 from 10.5.x my 2x3GHz quad-core Intel Xeon desktop spontaneously turns off as if I pulled the plug. Mostly it happens when there is no open software and it's in the sleep mode (because it spends more time like that), but it has happened while I'm working. It just suddenly quits.

This is a suspicious sign of power supply failure. I would have that checked into. Others who have had similar problems have had the power supplies replaced which fixed the issue.

  • My (2008) macbook pro, running 10.5.8 runs for about 30 seconds and then goes into deep sleep mode.  After significant difficulty awakening, it runs for 30 seconds and....start repeating here.  It did this once before about a year ago.

.....and then goes into deep sleep mode.  When it (finally) awakens....it runs for about 30 seconds and.....start repeating here.
And yes, I've shut dwn and restarted multiple times, rebooted in terminal mode and run fsck, rebooted and reset the parameter ram, yadda-yadda......
    Anybdy got any ideas?

Power or other problems related to unexpected system sleep, shutdown, lights or fans call for an SMC reset. Read all the steps.
    Before Resetting the SMC
Try each of the following steps in this order before you reset the SMC. Test the issue after completing each troubleshooting step to determine if the issue still occurs.
Press Command + Option + Escape to force quit any application that is not responding.
Put your Mac to sleep by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Sleep. Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.
Restart your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Restart.
Shut down your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Shut Down.
Resetting the SMC on Mac portables with a battery you can remove
    Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
Remove the battery (to remove the battery - click here: MacBook or MacBook Pro).
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Still having problems? Replace steps 6 and 7 with the following:
Reconnect just the MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer,
    Then reconnect the battery.
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if it's not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time. The power adapter indicator light may cycle off / on once.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • Computer freezes when pressure is applied and also won't exit sleep mode

I have a macbook pro mid 2010 with an i7 at 2.66 GHz, 8 Gb of RAM,  a 500 Gb seagate hybrid drive and is running on 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion). The RAM and harddrive were installed by me a couple years ago and I generally haven't had any issues with them (I did try to install 10.8.6 but ended up reverting back to 10.8.5 via time machine). When I put pressue on the bottom of the base my computer instantly freezes, the display will  do some funky nonsense stuff (not every time) and sometimes followed by 3 beeps (also does not happen every time). I know the 3 beeps often indicates a RAM issue, so I installed the software "memtest" and all my RAM passed. Also, when my computer goes to sleep by shutting the lid of the laptop, it frequently won't come out of sleep and the sleep mode light is stuck on. When it's stuck in sleep mode, the fans turn on and the battery starts running pretty hot. I've tried resetting the PRAM, NVRAM and SMC via this tutorial: http://www.maclife.com/article/howtos/how_fix_mac_won%E2%80%99t_wake  . I'm unsure of what steps to take next, and if the problem is a software issue, logic board or RAM issue.

That doesn't appear to be a US model, and this is the forums for Toshiba USA. You may want to contact Toshiba in your region.

  • Macbook Pro trackpad and keyboard freezes after attempting sleep mode

I bought this computer on April 2008. It has the latest OS X 10.5.6 and it did not accept the trackpad firmware. I tried to install and the software said "this computer does not need this update".
This has been happening a lot when I am using Skype while talking to someone with video and sound. The computer tries to go on sleep mode because I am not typing or touching it - it thinks I am away because I am just talking and watching the person on the other side.
I touch the computer to avoid getting on sleep mode and with that it freezes the trackpad and keyboard. I continue to listen and see the other person and they continue to see me and hear me, but I cannot move the "mouse" cursor on the screen or type anything. Neither can I force to quit anything. The only thing that works is to close the computer and open again, that forces the computer to go into sleep mode then I can make it wake up again by opening it and touching any key on the keyboard.
This have been interrupting Skype calls and a study I am conduting. I have to keep touching the computer trackpad to not let it sleep ever. I am concerned is something with the battery or maybe it needs some kind of firmware.
This is very recent, just started happening this week (March 2009). I have not added any new software or any hardware to the machine.
What can I do to make the trackpad and keyboard stop freezing when the computer tries to sleep?

this is in the wrong category. I added a new message to the right category: MacBook Pro but I don't know how to delete it from here.

  • Update to 10.6.3 and having problems returning from sleep mode

    Hi,
Updated yesterday to 10.6.3 and having issues returning the laptop from sleep mode.
I close the lid and the laptop goes to sleep but when opening the laptop I just get a blank screen. I can hear the hard drive start up but nothing is displayed on the screen and the sleep light is constantly on. Have tried various combinations of key presses to get it back but nothing works. I end up powering the laptop off in the end.
Anyone else have this problem? Or know how to resolve it.
I have run daily, weekly, monthly maintenance scripts, cleared system and user cache and repaired disk permission but I'm still getting the issue. I have a Time Machine backup but it dates back a month so I'm reluctant to restore.
    Cheers,
    Luke

I'm having a similar problem that I may have cracked. My screen is on but the backlight is off (so the image is practically 100% on resume from hibernate. Have you reset the pram and cleared the smc?

  • MacBook pro will not reboot and seems to be in sleep mode

I have a MacBook Pro and I had a USB side drive hooked to it and shut down.  When I went to reboot after unplugging usb drive, the Laptop seems to be stuck in sleep mode.  The boot up screen does not appear but the light where you open the screen it lit.  It also makes a sound to start booting but it never boots.   The computer was in great running order before this occurred.

    Hi mediahero and Welcome
    Try this:
Hold the power button down for 10 seconds, wait a further ten then press and release the power button in the usual way.
    Good luck

    -Disabled Wake-Up Events in BIOS
-Changed to OS controlled Wake-Up events
-Changed "Restore after AC Power Loss" to off in BIOS
-Ordered a new PSU, replaced PSU
Regardless the fix, if I try to shutdown - the computer reboots within a few seconds.  If I try to put it in sleep mode, it boots right back up.  The only way to get the computer to shut off is by manually turning off the PSU.
I've seen that there have been frequent power-cycle issues with this particular motherboard in comments on newegg.com, just wondering if this issue has been encountered and if there is a fix available?

Is this with no case wire connections to any of the headers? i.e. if you start it by shorting the on/off pin headers with a screwdriver tip.
    Yeah, as shown here.

Shorted on with flathead, boots up fine.  After flipping off the PSU to turn it off and then flipping the PSU back on, the dang thing waits a few seconds and boots right back up.  No short required.  At this point I think a ghost might be living in my computer.

  • 10.5.2 update and Leopard Graphics update = no sleep mode

All, After updating my MacBook Pro to 10.5.2 and the Leopard Graphics update, my computer will not longer enter sleep mode after a specified time. I can manually set the computer to sleep mode, but it will not automatically go to sleep mode. I have tried resetting the System Management Control Center VIA http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319 and everything else in that doc.
    Any suggestions?
    TIA Jon

Call AppleCare and see if they can help.
    Regular trouble shooting
    1) Create a new account, name it test or something
    2) log into that account to see if the behavior changes
    3) If it does, then there is some problem in your own account.
    4) If it doesn't, restart.
    5) If the behavior still doesn't change, there is some system configuration error
    In this case
    6) Open Disk Utility. Verify your disk, then repair permissions (not likely to fix the problem but will at least eliminate that possibilty)
    7) Get a copy of Leopard Cache Cleaner and do a MODERATE cache cleaning
    8) Restart
If still not fixed, reset PRAM and the SMU. Look on the Apple web site for instructions for your particular computer.
If still not different, do an Archive and Install. However go to the Apple web site and download the 10.5.2 Combo updater first. After you Archive and Install from either the disk that came with your computer (assuming that it is Leopard) or the retail Leopard installer. Then run the combo updater. Then run Software Update.
These problems are disturbing and really shouldn't happen, but they do. However, they can be fixed and you'll find that Mac OS is, overall, much better than the alternatives.
BTW, I just went through this whole mess for crashes on wake from sleep (USB issues) and failure to sleep (printer driver issue). Another computer had DHCP problems and actually needed a reinstall. However both of them are working fine now even though it was a pain getting there.

  • HP pavillion Elite HPE-541F ... system will not start and monitor keeps going into sleep mode

    Good Morning:
Having an issue with my Hp Pavilion Elite HPE-541F and Monitor HP2311x
Yesterday, thinking I was updating Java ... clicked on it and agreed to things being allowed on computer ... started adding icons to my desktop .... then pop ups kept coming up to register etc ... I assumed that something was wrong so I attempted to restore system to previous ... since then my system will not boot up ... will say "starting windows" and I can hear the fans working but thats it ... second part of the issue is that the monitor keeps going to sleep, so even if I try to restart the computer in "safe" mode or anything else monitor goes to sleep and there's nothing on the screen so don't know if anything is doing anything .... Very sorry I'm also not very tech savy with computers ... just trying to save time and money before I have to bring system to computer repair person .... Any help would be appreciated .... Thanks so very much

  • Is it safe to do Software Update? and to put it on Sleep mode?

I'm coming over from a Pro Tools background, and with PT they would say not to do software updates as it can cause bugs with Pro Tools, is this an issue with Logic? and also Digidesign would say not to manually put your computer to sleep while running pro tools cuz it'll cause glitches or errors.
i would think cuz its all comin from the same house (Apple) that everything should be all good, no worries. but i still have to ask.
    thanks

Don't assume that because it's all apple there will be no problems! A quick surf around this forum on the subject of software updates will be enough to assure you of that!
And I would never put the system to sleep whilst actually running a session - I have had problems with this in the past (disk too slow errors etc.) I have my energy saver settings set to "never" except for the screen saver...
Check with other users on this forum is my advice before installing any update at all - do a search first and if you can't find answers then ask, but just make sure you include as many details about your machine, setup, OS version etc. as possible.
If your system is working fine I wouldn't bother with the upgrades personally.

  • X-Fi Elite PRO and Vista: dropouts and no sound. Only Changing mode in Audio-Console helps

Hi... Please help me. I have an X-Fi Elite Pro and I am experiencing a very strange problem in Vista 32. Before using Vista, I had no problems at all in XP. Sometimes when I listen to the music (Winamp) and then after listening the music start watching movie, the sound dissappears. I mean the EQ of Winamp freezes and there is no sound at all
!!! Only if I switch audio-console (in Configuration menu) to Games mode (or an other one) and back, the sound comes back... Sometimes it happens, sometimes not. It is very strange. Please, do you know a solution for that?!

In no way a 300W Power Supply has enough power for all your stuff.
2 HDD's, a power-hungry Pentium, a xfi card, dvd burner and many other stuff ...
Problems like this can happen then if your power supply has not enough power to handle all this stuff.
Get a better powersupply that can handle your stuff and I am sure it will work again. In a few cases its also possible that YOU damage your hardware on this way, if it can not get enough stable power, it might mess up your hardware. I also already blowed up a harddisk one day because I have connected too much stuff to one cable. I had 3 HDD's, Mainboard, Lights, Fans and DVD connected to one single cable. All devices there did not get enough power, harddisks made crazy sounds (on/off/on/off very fast) and after that one of my HDDs was bad.
But no ... you can't blame anyone for this. In 99% a bad power supply should not damagae your hardware, it will just make sure it does not work anymore. Since you installed that hardware, YOU are responsible for this. If a hardware-dealer would have to install this card for you, it would be his fault, but now its yours.
BTW: Why do you expect that a 300W suppy is enough!? I mean really ... think about it! See what todays PS can do, take a look how much your pentium already needs ... There are at least 00W gone for your CPU, another 00 for your Videocard and just 00 left for ALLLL the other devices like your harddisks (20-30W each one), DVD, mainboard, soundcard ... In no way this will be enough. You must have missed the last 5 years ...
BTW: I don't think that the software audio console would not work when not having connected the y-power cable. I forget that cable too one time. My console did still work, just in games I got some strange problems a lot of times (no more sound for -2 minutes, crackling and other poroblems) which got solved after I plugged in the power-cable to soundcard.Message Edited by Homey-GER on 0-7-200705:42 AM
