Issues accessing movies on my Apple TV.

Am able to watch trailers for new movies coming soon but won't let me access any other movies....any ideas??

Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

  • Accessing movie library on Apple TV

I could probably figure this out myself, but it's easier to let you guys just tell me.
I've just started using Apple TV and want to have all our movies available on it, without having to store them all on my computer. Some are purchased from iTunes, but a lot are ripped from DVD.
What's the best way to do this? I have a Time Capsule-- could I store them there, then put them in iTunes without actually copying the files, just telling iTunes where they are? Would Apple TV be able to find them without my computer being on?
I want to remove my laptop from the equation completely if possible, both for simplicity and so the family can watch stuff when I'm at work.
    Thanks in advance.

While iTunes is an integral part of local streaming you can actually store the media off the laptop if space is tight, either on an external drive or a networked solution.
You would copy the media over to the external/network drive (remove existing files from iTunes after backing up), then re-add to iTunes by reference- change Preferences>Advanced not to copy media to teh library on the laptop, then drag and drop into itunes from the Remote location.

  • Can't watch a purchased movie on the apple tv

unfortunatly the movie keeps downloading but I can watch it all on the Ipad while on the TV I only hear the sonor- any body an yidea how to solve the issue?

Movies rented on Apple TV aren't transferable to another device. If its taking awhile to load then its an issue with your network.
What is your speed via speedtest.net
    1080p requires 8mbps
    720p needs 6mbps
You can change to SD in settings
Interference can cause issues, verify via istumbler or netstumbler
Should be using ISPs DNS (settings - network - DNS should be automatic)

Mov is a container format, you'd need to look at the codec used by the movie file inside the container to know whether it will work with the Apple TV or not.

  • For the last 2days when I attempt to rent a movie And my Apple TV attempts to access the iTunes Store I get a message can't connect to server, try again later. I can connect to Netflix, Hulu and all other services. Any help appreciated.

For the last 2 days when I try to rent a movie on my Apple TV the Apple TV attempts to access the iTunes Store and then I get a message saying Apple TV cannot connect to the server at this time. Please try again later. I have no trouble connecting to Netflix, Hulu or any of the other apps. I also have no trouble connecting to the iTunes Store using my iPhone or iPad. I have also tried restarting the Apple TV and my router. Any help will be appreciated.

I have a similar problem. After a recent update I cannot access the iTunes Store to resubscribe to Hulu. "Cannot access iTunes Store at this time." Dunno what to do.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
If you rent a movie on the Apple TV, then it can only be watched on the Apple TV. If you want to watch movies on multiple devices, you need to download it to your computer, where you can then transfer it to other devices or stream it to your Apple TV as well as watch it from your Mac.

  • Can Apple TV access movies that are stored in Time Capsule?

Can Apple TV access movies that are stored in Time Capsule?

The Apple TV looks for iTunes, which is likely on your computer.
I know of no way to "tell" the Apple TV to look for anything. It is pre-programmed to look for iTunes, iPhoto, etc.

  • HT1551 I recently downloaded the latest software update for on my Apple TV (per the prompt Apple TV gave us).  Ever since downloading the update, we cannot access movies, play movies, or access iTune store.  We can play YouTube videos so not a connection

Help.  I recently downloaded the latest software update for on my Apple TV (per the prompt Apple TV gave us).  Ever since downloading the update, we cannot access movies, play movies, or access iTune store.  We can play YouTube videos so the problem is not related to the connection.  It happens only when we are trying to access Movies.  Very confused.  Our AppleTV was working fine until I did the new software update.  Now this problem!  Help!

  • What is the best set up (hardware and/or software) to store and access movies and music purchased through apple tv without using the computers storage space

I have run out of space on my imac desktop, which only has 500GB of storage, due to the movies, music, etc. that have been purchased through iTunes and Apple TV.  I do not want to delete the purchases but need to free up space on my computer.  I am looking for the best scenario for moving the media to another source and still have access the media from Apple TV and possibly from ipads, macbooks, ps3, etc. within my house.  I have been looking at upgrading the Time Capsule to a larger capicity one and/or having a backup hard drive to the time capsule.  I would like to know what other people are doing to have these features without filling up their computer's hard drive.  Please advise.  If a media server other than the computer is needed please explain.  Thanks for your help.

Can the time capsule be set up to back up both the computer and the external hard drive, therefore creating a second copy of both?
Can the external hard drive be set up to store all the media which can then be accessed by apple tv and other devises as if the media was on the computer OR will the media have to moved back to the computer's hard drive in order to be viewed on other devises?  Another way to look at this is can you set up iTunes to find the media stored on the external hard drive and access it without moving the media back to the computer?
I realize this must be a problem for many people utilizing iTunes and Apple TV to purchase and view movies and listen to music but the solution does not appear to be easily determined.  I'm sure the first solution would be to just buy a computer with a larger hard drive but that is not the most economical.

  • No Hulu? No ability to access movies stored on NAS? Come on Apple, Make Apple TV all it can be!

Responding that I should look at other devices misses the point entirely. There is no technological reason why these suggestions are not incorporated into Apple TV
Use the feedback link WC gave.
There are innumerable things AppleTV could do, there are many I wish it did, there are others I hope it never will.
The problem with Apple is they do things their way like it or lump it.
Direct playback from a NAS would be great I agree, but their model revolves around iTunes purchases and rentals and no NAS can handle authorisation of protected content like iTunes (so maybe AppleTV should!).
There are too many country specific thinsg like Hulu, iplayer in Uk but to compete they probably need to look at things that are standard on modern 'smart tv's'.  You can get many local content options using Airplay on iOS devices but it's an expensive and in my view immature technology with content provider limitations in many cases (eg no Airplay or audio only).
I do find it bizarre that we get US Sports channel content, WSJ etc outside of the US which really clutters the interface with things you don't want - I can disable Vimeo, YouTube and globally available things but not US centric stuff!!!!!

  • Why do I constantly get loading times of more than 200 hours for a movie rental on Apple TV, but I can stream any netflix movie without issue?

It doesn't really make sense.  I have changed the video settings to lower resolution, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.  My first two movies with my Apple TV worked fine, but since then I am not able to get 5 minutes into a movie without it pausing and telling me it will be ready to view in 4, 24, 187, 224 hours.

If you're not getting the same problem with sound on films/TV programmes that you've bought (if you are then you could try re-posting in the Apple TV forum on here for how to fix it) then try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
Or you can try contacting iTunes Support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

MUst be Apple problem.....oh we'll good for Virginmedia...their movies work ok

Is this just the movie icon or others as well. There appears to be an issue with movie or TV shows at present, but if other icons are missing you may have a different issue.

I was watching a movie on my Apple TV and suddenly it stopped. I noticed I was logged out. Then I tried logging in again and I keep getting a message "cannot connect to iTunes". I restarted the Apple TV three times and tried again each time. I am stuck  Help please

There's an issue currently that a lot of us are experiencing in that we all get the error message "iTunes is currently unavailable; please try later"
It's an issue with Apple and we're awaiting an update re this
I've posted a topic in regards to this after having a long conversation with Apple support this morning and will be receiving a call from their tech team tomorrow to run through it further
As it stands iTunes cannot be accessed via ATV's and nor can it be streamed via AirPlay from iTunes to the ATV
However I can access all films/iCloud content via my Mac Mini with no issues!

  • Cant access you tube on apple tv

I can no longer access You Tube through my Apple TV. Are there any fixes

    Hello alejandrofrommex,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You mention that you get a connection error when trying to access YouTube on your Apple TV.
I recommend starting with this advice to troubleshoot the situation:
If you have playback issues with a content provider's services
In most cases, you can isolate playback issues to your home network, your broadband connection, or a possible outage with a content provider. To see if your issue is affecting multiple services or a specific content provider, try another service. For example, play a movie trailer from the main menu.
If the issue is affecting multiple services on your Apple TV, see how to troubleshoot playback performance.
If the issue is affecting a single content provider on your Apple TV, restart your Apple TV by going to Settings > General > Restart. If the issue continues, you might need to contact the content provider.
