Issues coping flash files to a network volume

Hello all I need your help. I have CS6 suite and I have a weird issue with Flash only. I take a flash file create it on a Mac OSX 10.9.2 Desktop. I save and close flash. I drag the file file to a SMB share on the network. I open the file from the drive and now I cannot save the file. It gives me an error that it cannot save. I then close and try to open back up and it gives me an error and the file will not open. I have no trouble with Photoshop CS6, Word or any other files doing the same process. Why is flash different? Thank you in advance.

I agree Steve Warner moved me to this forum. How do i go back?
Thanks
Tim

  • Excel 2008, read-only file access from network volume

    Hi,
    Need some assistance please.
    I recently setup a Macbook Pro 17" 2.4Ghz (10.5.2) and did a migration from a Powerbook G4. Installed Office 2008.
    Excel will not open ANY files from a network volume without giving a read-only access error.
    Word is ok and opens files fine.
    drag the file from the network to the desktop and it opens ok. drag it back and it copys ok.
    so, I created a new user and the problem persists.
    I fired up a Macbook running 10.5.2 and Office 2008 and it logged onto the network fine and opened the excel docs just fine.
    mmm, ok must be an OS problem.
    So, I have just endured waiting for the archive and install to complete on the Macbook Pro and the problem is still there !!!!!
    Help.
    Is my only fix going to be a complete erase and start again from fresh ?
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    right then, as it looks like I'm talking to myself....
    I have just wiped clean the Macbook Pro.
    I installed Leopard from scratch, then installed Office 2008.
    Logged back onto the network share, and the read-only error came up again, ONLY in Excel.
    bugger.
    Did the same thing with my Macbook and all is fine.
    Copy the file to the local hard drive, opens ok.
    I then copied the file to another Mac on the network.
    mmmm, opens fine.
    what's the difference....
    mmmm, the machine it opens fine from is running 10.4
    the machine which hosts all the data is running 10.3.9
    could this be the problem.
    Just done a software update check on the 10.3 machine and there are some security updates that need doing.
    Going to run that now and see what happens, otherwise I think the iMac running 10.3.9 is going to need to come up to 10.4 and fingers crossed this will solve it.

  • Read-only file access from network volume

    I get an read-only file access from network volume problem while sharing a drive from Snow Leopard to a Tiger install. Most of files were opening well, but *.fp7 (FileMaker) and *.xls (Excel) files won't open dealing with a read-only error.
    As descibed in the last post of http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1406977 the client have the same share name of the server. Renomming it resolved the error!
    Thanks!

  • Intel OS 10.5 Illustrator CS5 crash during "save as" file replacement on network volume

    I am running a recently reinstalled copy of CS5 on a os 10.5 Intel  Mac pro as part of the CS5 design Premium edition. Every time I try to save over a file on a 10.5 fileserver as a  "save as" to replace an exsisting document on the server, it crashes  Illistrator. Hard. I get the spinning ball and have to force quit the  application. This action tends to cause a volume bit map error on the  hard drive. I have swapped the drive for a new one and the result is the  same so I know it is not a failing hard drive. I have come  accross a similiar issue on the forum and have yanked the pref file  mentioned in the post, but no luck so far. If anyone has an idea, I am  all ears. Thanks.
    Previous thread with simialar issues.

    Adobe has always stated that saving to and opening from a networked file server is not supported.
    There are litterally thousands of configurations out there and it's not feasible for Adobe to test every single one of them.
    If you save the file to a local drive do you have problems?

  • Ownership issues on a 10.4.7 network volume

    I am having an issue with ownership on certain files stored on our file server.
    The artworkers all copy files (Quark, Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign) to their desktop before working, as quite often they are graphically heavy and we recommend they work local saving updates to the server through the day to avoid potential crashes. Now, the problem is that once a file has been worked on locally, it changes the ownership to that of the person who was working on that file, and consequently can cause an issue if someone else comes to work on the job.
    Is there any way that I can make sure that all files uploaded to the server instantly inherit the permissions of their parent folders, so as to avoid issues with ownership? The only soultion I can come up with is generic log ins, which is not suitable for this particular environment.
    XServe running 10.4.7. with Apple RAID serving as file storgae.

    If ACLs are enabled on the volume, the posix inherit option will be greyed out.
    If you are not using ACLs (you would know if you were), then you could turn ACLs off and the option to inherit will be available.
    To turn ACLs off:
    In WorkGroupManager, click Sharing.
    Click the 'All' tab, then scroll the box below it all the way to the left.
    You should now see your volumes (hard drives).
    Select the volume where the share points are, and in the General section you'll see a checkbox to enable/disable ACLs.

  • Help with backing up files on a network volume

    Have a Time Capsule and a bridged extreme N router. I share a folder off of the N router (home work, work files, etc.), thus allowing everyone to have access to their files regardless of which machine they are using. However, I can't back up this share folder using Time Machine. I want to write a workflow which copies recently modified files from my shared network folder to a back-up folder on the machine which I back up with Time Capsule on a daily basis.
    This seems so logical, I would have thought Apple would have provided for this option.

    I wrote up a article on using rsync and launchd to get backups of laptops to my network shares. Might be helpful for you

  • InDesign CS5 hangs when conecting to network volume

    Not sure if this is an InDesign issue or Mavericks problem, so I’ve posted here and there.
    This problem only happens with InDesign if I have our file server connected (a share point on another mac running 10.5.8). If it is unmounted all works as it should.
    Setup: Mid 2010 Mac Mini 2.4 Core 2 Duo with 8gb ram
    I have:
    Trashed various InDesign pref files
    Reinstalled mavericks via the recovery partition and it’s on 10.9.4 with everything updated
    Uninstalled InDesign using their own uninstaller - checked the included all prefs option
    Reinstalled InDesign and updated it to 7.0.4 (CS5)
    I then Repaired Permissions and ran maintenance scripts too.
    Restarted
    ... still have the issue.
    This is what happens if the network volume is mounted and I’m connect (as Guest):
    InDesign will load
    I can create a new blank .indd and save it
    I can open that blank .indd
    I can open that blank .indd if it includes just text
    I can open that blank .indd if it includes just text and images (not located on the network volume)
    If I open that blank .indd and it includes images that a located on the network volume or any pre-existing .indd which have images from the network volume InDesign hangs once the open dialogue box closes, after a force quite an .idlk file is left behind in the finder.
    If I place/insert an image, the Place dialogue box opens and I can access the desktop & the documents folder via the sidebar and place/insert images from there into the document. But InDesign will hang if I select the Users Home folder,  the Dropbox folder or any folder from the file server.
    As I said this only happens in InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop can open files from the network volume to their hearts content without issue.
    Console log:
    When I open the open or save dialogue in InDesign I get the following looped in the console – it will only stop looping those lines once I quite InDesign.

    Clearly InDesign does not like the network volume attached or there is some sort of permissions problem going on, I have no idea why this is happening, other machines running Mavericks and InDesign 7.0.4 have no issues.

    Upgrading to osX Yosemite seems to have solved this issue

  • No matter if it's a Mac or a PC, FireFox refuses to refresh Flash files. Updated Flash files are showing up as old,out dated, Flash files. Is there an issue with the Flash Player PlugIn?

    I have created a simple Flash menu for use on multiple site. They all access the same flash file. My original flash file only had a few links and tabs. The new one has more links, and a "LIVE" button at the bottom. But in Fire Fox, those that saw the original can not see the updated version in FireFox. They see it if they use Internet Explorer, Safari, Opera, etc. This issue comes up on all operating systems. This issue only occurs with FireFox. I've tried clearing FireFox's Cache but that doesn't seem to be working either.
    The Flash File can be found on the left side at this link:

    Your server file handling has nothing, and really nothing to do with Adobe software. If files don't get locked for (over-)writing and/or lose connection to the program opening them, then your server is misconfigured. It's as plain and simple and that. Anything from "known file types"/ file associations not being set correctly, MIME types being botched, crooked user privileges and file permissions, missing Mac server extensions, delayed file writing on the server, generic network timeout issues and what have you. Either way, you have written a longwinded post with no real value since you haven't bothered to provide any proper technical info, most notably about the alleged server. Either way, the only way you can "fix" it is by straightening out your server and network configuration, not some magic switch in Adobe's software.

  • Synching Issues with Self-Paced Learning and Embedded Flash Files

    Hi Everyone,
    I'm having some issues with my files not properly synching or displaying when Self-Paced Learning is active.
    Here is my set-up:
    Captivate 5
    5 separate Captivate files combined using the Aggregator
    Each Captivate file is about 15 slides
    Each slide contains an audio file (for closed-captioning) and a single SWF file - the content is all created with Flash and then inserted into Captivate using Insert > Animation
    Each SWF file is back 1/10 of a second from the beginning of the Cap timeline (otherwise there are rewind issues when the user selects the slide they are currently viewing from the ToC)
    Each embedded SWF has the beginning and ending fade built into it; Captivate is not doing any fading
    Synch to Project is selected for each embedded SWF (although it doesn't seem to work all the time)
    Self-Paced Learning is active, as well as, Enable Navigation
    It is not being loaded to an LMS or using any built-in Captivate quiz features.  These are instead custom built AS3 Flash files that are embedded.
    Windows 7, 4GB RAM, 1GB Video Card, High-end Processor, etc... a beast.
    The Issue:
    When the user opens the course, views it for a while and then closes it and returns it will display the first slide of the course for a moment before jumping to the bookmarked slide.  This slight timing misstep causes the bookmarked slide to get out of synch.  It will sometimes not display the bookmarked slide at all or it will cut-off a small bit from the end of the slide (even with Synch to Project active).  It sometimes works fine but randomly will break.  The course is set to 100% preload and nothing is being loaded from an external location.  It seems to work fine until Self-Paced Learning is activated.
    I don't think this is a common development approach for Captivate but it has been very successful with some clients.  Has anyone encounted similar issues or does anyone have some suggestions that might resolve this problem?
    Thanks!
    Greg

    It's been mentioned many times on this forum that nesting Captivate SWFs inside other Captivate SWFs gives rise to all kinds of strange issues.  Captivate was not designed to work this way. If you choose to do it, and you encounter issues (as you have done) there's usually NOT a lot you can do.  There are just too many ways the SWFs can get into bun fights over which one does what.
    I suggest you rethink your approach to avoid nesting.

  • Trying to export a older flash file in player 8, having issues.

    i have this flash file that is written for player 5. i had to
    republish in player 8 to take advantage of the anti aliasing
    features available, however, i seem to have a problem with a
    secondary swf that gets pulled in to the main movie. the secondary
    swf targets player 5 as well. when i republished for player 8, i
    got these compiling errors. can anyone tell me why this won't work
    if i publish in 8, but works publishing in 5?
    while (Number(n)<19) {
    n = Number(n)+1;
    bn = "kv" add n;
    duplicateMovieClip("kv", bn, n);
    setProperty(bn, _x, Number(getProperty(bn,
    _x))+Number(n*getProperty(bn, _width)));
    setProperty(bn add "/b", _x, getProperty (bn add "/b", _x) +
    (random (20)+1));
    it must be a syntax issue as the original code is AS1.0. Does
    anyone know what this would need to look like to work publishing
    for player 8?

    The only real problem is that "add" is no longer supported.
    It should be:
    while (Number(n)<19) {
    n = Number(n)+1;
    bn = "kv" + n;
    duplicateMovieClip("kv", bn, n);
    setProperty(bn, _x, Number(getProperty(bn,
    _x))+Number(n*getProperty(bn, _width)));
    setProperty(bn + "/b", _x, getProperty (bn + "/b", _x) +
    (random (20)+1));
    But this will have yet another problem if the "n" is not
    defined prior to the while loop. Flash 5 assumed undefined
    variables were 0. Flash 8 assumes undefined variables are
    undefined.
    But a newer and improveder version of the script would be
    something like:

    Wow. Okay...
    I'll let the real veterans in this forum tackle your issues one after the other. But, I can tell you, all will be well.
    My only comment would be re: your computer specs:

    To be completely honest, FCPX is a RAM hog. It just is. But, RAM is relatively cheap, and the pay-off is good.
    4GB is right on the edge, IMHO. 16G is ideal.
    I wish you luck, hang in there, and standby for more help.

  • ODD new issue opening files from another network machine

    okay, my setup is kind of convaluted, but this is what I have: I made the switch to Mac last year, and do all of my processing on my Macbook Pro. It has CS5 on it.
    Because I havent been able to print properly from it (an alleged driver issue, wherein my images print with a 1/4" offset), I still print from a networked Windows Vista machine in the office--and because I hated the print dialogs in CS3 & CS4, I actually still print from PS CS2
    (I know, probably seems senseless, but it works best for me). Life has been peachy.
    Now for the issue:
    Suddenly, as of today, PS on the Windows machine wont open any jpg or psd on the Mac. If I copy/move it to the Windows desktop, it opens just fine. I either get a message saying it's "the wrong type of file," or--more bizarre, when I double click a file to open, I actually get the dialog box you get when you hit ctrl-N for a new document... and this happens the same in CS2, 3, & 4. Any clue as to what the heck I've got going on?
    thanks!

    This is the boilerplate text often used in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
    If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please cease and desist immediately in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files. Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406793.html
      Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
         Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work.   It should.
        Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
      If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
    When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • Flash 11.3.300.262 volume issue - Win7

    In Windows 7 using Firefox 13.0.1, the flash process spawns a unique volume mixer in the Windows 7 Volume Mixer panel every time the plugin restarts (ie, starting Firefox or when all flash containers are closed and a new one is opened).  This unique volume mixer is set to 100% which means it blows out my speakers every time it loads.  This is incredibly annoying and all the other programs in Windows 7 seem to be able to remember their volume settings except Flash.  I would downgrade but because Flash is the most common malware vector I have to keep it up to date.  Please fix.

    Could you please open a new bug on this at bugbase.adobe.com?  In addition, if you are intersted in trying a test build out that addresses other sound issues please see this post.

  • Flash File Issue

    I have a page with a flash file.  I can preview the flash file in Dreamweaver but when I upload everything, its not there.  I have tried moving the file to a different location and renaming the flash file.  I have also tried deleting the flash file on the webserver and reuploading it.  I have Dreamweaver CS3.

    Hi,
    because you can (qoute:) see in your preview the flash file in Dreamweaver, but when I upload everything, its not there, so I have to ask you:
    Did you do really all the required DW-steps? In order you could control this I'll try to describe in detail from the beginning (translated from my German DW):
    Create a new subdirectory.
    Create a new html/php-file.
    Work in designMode --> Insert Flash-Video.
    Search/browse ---> yourFLV.flv
    Skin: Halo Skin 3 (min. width 280) ( it was my choice)
    width 640 ( it's my choice)
    height 480 ( it's my choice)
    I clicked all the boxes
    ---> And now away with all these files below (produced from DW) to your server.
    Best you have a look with WIN-Explorer into your directory, to see all the files DW has created in your subdirectory and don't forget one:
    YourFlv.flv
    YourFlv.htm (or YourFlv.php)
    Clear_Skin_1.swf (my choice)
    FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf
    Back to my start: You can see your file in preview, cause in your harddisk-DW-directory all these files exist.
