Issues creating an alias...

Hello,
need some help here. Keep trying to add an alias to my account but whenever i "click" the "OK" button a window showing up saying " Cannot save alias! This alias cannot be saved at this time"
Any ideas?
thanks
Andrea

This issue has been running for a couple of days: a number of people have reported it. If you look at the page for creating aliases you will notice that the suffix is @icloud.com - there is at the present moment no such address, but iOS6 is due out today and there have been rumours that it will bring that address into use. So possibly this problem is tied in with iOS6 and will be resolved when it is released. Possibly.

Can't create any alias in iCloud mail, see message "Cannot save alias. This alias cannot be saved at this time". I tried different variations at different dates (I thought this is temporary issue) but this not helped me. Perhaps some of you have resolved this issue and can tell me how I can do it?

Do you see in account settings two email addresses - with "@me.com" and "@icloud.com"? Or only "@me.com"? In second case just wait - your account will be updated in some time. I've waiting from summer and my account was updated in one day as soon as I've start this discussion   When your account will be updated - you will see in preferences two addresses, with "@me.com" and with "@icloud.com".

  • Creating an alias - is this a bug or what??

Please let me know if this is a bug or a "feature"!!! As I understand things (a few changes since OS 6.0.4 in 1989...) there are 4 ways to create an alias when one is in a folder. For example, I'm in my Applications folder with 300 items in that folder. Generally I put my aps into a folder with the name of that app and the word folder. (I used to use ƒ but read that Unix doesn't appreciate that symbol)-- OK back to the main point: ALIAS creation - 4 ways I know to do this:
    1. I right-click and choose Make Alias with the folder or icon selected
    2. I hold down the option and command keys and select the folder or icon, then drag it just a bit and voilà - an alias.
    3. I choose the folder or icon I want and then do cmd-L to create the alias.
    4. I go to the file menu after selecting the folder and choose Make Alias
GREAT all 4 work (is there a 5th way?)--
BUT when I do choices 3 or 4, then instead of everything staying in place, the alias is created and then the screen jumps to the very top - to the "A" or numbered labeled folders / apps!
NOTE: My apps folder has the view choice to ARRANGE BY NAME. If I change this to none - then cmd-L or Make Alias just makes the alias in-place!
BUT choices 1 and 2 also keep the window of my apps folder in the same location EVEN WHEN IN THE ARRANGE BY NAME mode.
Again - is this a bug or a feature? Certainly annoying to make an alias and then have to go back and search for the alias... And note: If arrangement is SNAP TO GRID then choices 3 and 4 for creating an alias also have the screen jump to the "A" folders, i.e. the BUG!
Any comments appreciated - this is a real pain as I keep many of my folders organized by SNAP TO GRID or ORGANIZE BY NAME.

Thanks for your fast reply! There are 3 issues and I'm mainly concerned with #3- but I likely confused everyone with my long post - so let me try this:
    1. Moving Apps out of the Applications folder: You are right, it is best to keep the apps in the Applications folder. Especially Apple's applications - for the update and maybe other reasons and I do that.
    2. Creating an alias and where does the alias go: That's right, it has the same name and just the word alias added to the end so YES it stays right next to the original (especially when the folder is in the Arrange by Name view). So no problem there - mine is the same.
    3. Third issue is really my only concern: The act of creating an alias by cmd-L or the menu: In a window that scrolls, i.e. with many apps or several apps with large icon size (I should mention I'm talking in ICON view here)-- when you make an alias, the window automatically scrolls to the very top. So if you have a folder with 300 apps in it and you make an alias of ZEBRA FOLDER, then the alias is in the correct place but the window scrolls to the top (AARDVARK Folder or whatever).
*ADDITIONAL INFO:* After several restarts - yup, this is now NOT happening very often. Mostly the window is NOT scrolling so perhaps I'm wasting your time and others with this post. Let me recheck the next few days and then post again- especially if the problem has disappeared... which it seems is the case... (I should remember to restart 2x when anything unusual before posting!)

  • Indesign creates an alias file

Indesign creates an alias file when saving larger files on a Mac with Windows Server 2008.  Does anyone know a fix for this?

Launch terminal and use this command /usr/bin/SetFile -a a followed by the path name to the damaged file.
    Something like
    /usr/bin/SetFile -a a  /Volumes/YourServer/ShareName/FileName.alias
    or
    /usr/bin/SetFile -a /Users/UserName/Documents/WIP/FileName.alias
The easiest way to get the correct path name is to launch Terminal and drag the damaged file to the command line, Terminal will create the correct path, now all you need do is paste the command in to the Terminal command line before the path and hit return.
I don't expect you will have this issue with InDesign files stored on your local HD, it most commonly occurs with files stored in a share on a Windows server.
    Good luck,
    Cheers

  • Issue creating a MatView for another user w/ a private DB Link

I am having an issue creating a materialized view for another user where the select statement for the MV uses a private db link. Looks like the following:
Logged in as user X, I run:
    create materialzied view Y.foo
    (select blah
    from tbl@y_priv_db_link_here);
When I try to run this, I get a permission issue. User X has DBA privilege, user Y has create MV priv and has select priv on the table in the db link.
I can create this MV logged in as user Y. Cant create this logged in a user Y in test or prod environment, so this isn't an option.
Any ideas on how I can create this logged in a user X? I believe the issue here is that since this is a private db link owned by user Y, user X doesn't have access to this db link.
    thanks.

Here is what I was trying to do:
    SQL> CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW extract.ADDRESS
    2 TABLESPACE xxx
    3 BUILD IMMEDIATE
    4 REFRESH
    5 COMPLETE
    6 ON DEMAND
    7 WITH PRIMARY KEY
    8 AS
    9 ( SELECT ... FROM address@CM_TO_CPD);
    FROM pwb_address@CM_TO_CPD)
    ERROR at line 11:

  • How do I create an alias of my home folder with the little house icon to appear on my desktop, please?

In Mavericks, how do I create an alias to my home folder, complete with the little house icon, to put on my desktop, please? I can get the folder, but not with the icon.

Open Finder. Under Preferences > Sidebar > Devices > check Hard disks.
Navigate to your home folder from "Macintosh HD" (or whatever the name of your boot volume is) in the finder. Set the view to column.
Once you reach the path of your home folder, select it, hold down the key combination option + command and drag the alias to your desktop.

I'm trying to make iCloud mail my primary email but I'm concerned that I may have lost the perfect email address forever.

I have the same problem. After our wedding I've created an alias ([email protected]) to my actual AppleID Account ([email protected]). Now I'd the idea to delete the alias and my actual AppleID to create a new AppleID with ([email protected]).
Is there really no possibilty to do this?

  • Issue creating a single PDF from MS Word on Mac

Using Trial Version of Acrobat XI for Mac.  I am having issue creating a single PDF from MS Word on Mac.  Acrobat is creating multiple files splitting up randomly.  Are there any settings to select for ending up with just one PDF fil

    Sabian,
As I mentioned before, I have used the following methods, each resulting the same, split up PDF file.
File>Save As - Selected PDF from under the Format dropdown menu.
File>Print>PDF - used Save As PDF
File>Print>PDF - used Save As Adobe PDF
With this information, I think I have tried all that you have asked me to do.  Please let me know if I could reach out to a technical consultant or someone else who can help.  Thank you.

  • Unable to create system Alias.

    Hi All,
I Created one system object , but i am not able to create system Alias. While creating system Alias it throws this  error   "  This system object is restricted and u can't create System Alias". Exactly what is the prob? What is the solution?
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi,
    system object is restricted
    1. Make sure you have required permissions to create the system object. You should use administrator user to create the system.
    2. Check the object properties and permissions.
Refer following procedure to create the system object and see if you have missed any step.

  • How to create an alias to a subtype?

    Hi,
How can I create an alias to a subtype?
I.e. How can I asscciate a name with a subtype?
Associate DOM_ADDRES with the type CHAR(50) or
associate DOM_TELNO with the type NUMBER(10,0)
so I can use it in the creation of a table like
    CREATE TABLE T1 (id INTEGER, addr DOM_ADDRES , tel DOM_TELNO);
I tried CREATE DOMAIN statement -> Not working, statement not
    exists.
I tried SUBTYPE lll IS CHAR(3) but it only works in PL/SQL
programming, I can't create tables with that.
Is it possible? Am I doing something wrong?
I think subtyping and aliasing is very useful for readability and
    reuse.
I don't want to use CREATE TYPE AS OBJECT, I do not need objects
    in my DB.
I am using Oracle 8.1.7 for Linux.
    TIA,
    Jose P.

In my .profile this works: alias f="/Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox -P doug"
for starting under my profile. Make sure you run source ~/.profile if you add an alias to .profile
Starting default FFox profile is /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox -P swxazqvy.default
And for Desktop icon to start whichever profile, open Script Editor and paste with proper changes(and save as an app(maybe to Desktop again?) :
do shell script "/Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox -P doug"
And you can make an executable with icon in a bash script with above and chmod u+x it and save to Desktop too.

  • How to create an alias from the command line

    Hi
I would like to know how to create an alias (for a file, not a command) from the command line. I don't want to use the ln command, as an alias has more interesting features than soft/hard links... Is there an Apple specific tool to do this?
    Thanks
    -Jerome
      Mac OS X (10.4.10)

The only straightforward way that I am aware of for creating a "Finder" alias from the command line is using AppleScript via 'osascript'. Of course, it's not really a command line solution since the "Finder" has to be running. Anyway, something along the lines of:
    <pre style="overflow:auto; padding: 5px; width: 500px ; font-size: 10px; border:1">osascript -e 'tell application "Finder" to make alias file to POSIX file "/full/path/to/file" at POSIX file "/full/path/to/folder"'</pre>

  • How to create an alias for a custom command line with paramters

Is it possible to create an icon that runs a terminal command line ?
What i want to do is start firefox with a specific profile. In terminal this is done by using Firefox -P [profileName]

I tried creating an alias that changing the original but it won't let me insert a command line.
    Any help ?

  • Create an alias to run a plug-in?

I'd like to create an alias on my desktop that would run an Automator plug-in.
    Is this possible?
I find it clumsy to have to right-click my desktop and navigate three menus to get to it.
    Thanks in advance.

Indeed I could create an alias to the workflow, but then Automator has to start and then I have to click the Run button and then quit Automator when that's done.
I just want to double-click an alias rather than right-clicking on my desktop and navigating the appropriate menus.
My workflow does not prompt me for any input when it runs; I've told it to use the same input every time (Get Specified Finder Items (External Harddrive) -> Eject Disk -> Put Computer To Sleep (this is a Cocktail action)).
At the moment I've saved the workflow as a plug-in for the Mac's script menu, which isn't as bad but still not the best.
I've discovered that you can run Automator workflows via Terminal, so I'm currently investigating if this could lead to the answer...

  • Problem in creating HTTP alias in WAS

    Hi,
i have followed the steps to create the http alias mentioned in the below link
[Creating an HTTP Alias in WAS]
when i click on the HTTP Provider in visual administrator, "Error while loading service HTTP provider" is displaying.  after that i have created alias as
    Alias : testexample
    Path : E:usrsapj2ejc00j2eeclusterserver0     estexample
and saved the properties.  when i see for the folder "test" under E:usrsapj2ejc00j2eeclusterserver0, i did not find the folder which was i created.
how can i make the folder visible and to add a text/html file in that.
    regards,
    vv.

    Hi,
the first thing is that you have to create the folder manually on the filesystem (in your case E:\usr\sap\j2e\jc00\j2ee\cluster\server0\test\example => test and example) Then you can access this file.
Maybe you should start with only a name without a "\". Create the alias "test" and create a folder e:\testfolder. Then point the alias test to the folder testfolder.
    That should help,
    Holger.
