Issues downloading and installing Mavericks.

I am attempting to down load OS X Mavericks and it says there is an error and to try to download it from the purchase page. I try that and my launch shows the icon but says "waiting".

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select

  • How was replacement SSD able to download and install Mavericks?

This has puzzled me for 2 years.
A friend bought a new Mac mini and bravely (!!!!) replaced the hard drive with a third party SSD.
He told me that the moment he switched the mini on it connected with the App Store and downloaded and installed Mavericks.
How could it do this when it had no operating system whatsoever and no recovery partition, as these had presumably disappeared along with the original hard drive?

    Hello!
His Mac Mini had an Internet Recovery Partition
    It's explained here:
OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support
if your startup drive encounters an issue, or if your startup drive has been replaced or erased. Internet Recovery lets you start your Mac directly from Apple's servers.

  • Can't download and install Mavericks

I am trying to download and install Mavericks and am getting nowhere.
When I go to the App Store it is marked as "Free Upgrade".
So I click the button and, after logging in, it changes to Install.
I click that and it changes colour and is disabled for a few moments and then changes back to "Install".
If I exit the store and re-enter the button is back to "Free Upgrade".
My computer definitely meets the requirements so what am I missing?
Note that I am a total newbie to Mac so it could be a real simple error on my part.

    Hi Barney
The download Mavericks worked now, thank you, but - if I install Mavericks - my Excel, Word 11.6.6 and Entourage won't work anymore! So, I think I better don't install this program!
    Best, Lilo
Yes, if you can't upgrade your Office suite, or use one of the various substitutes, then you shouldn't upgrade.

How long does it take to download and install maverick, not got high speed connection

It always depends on your network.
Can always go to http://www.speedtest.net and it will let you know your download speed and can do the math.
It will take about 2 hours on a good network though.

Don't suppose someone can tell me exactly what to write in order to download and install PMS on Arch? I'm about to throw my computer out of the window.
    First I tried:
    sudo pacman -S plex-media-server-plexpass

    Next I tried:

AUR wiki page wrote:1. Acquire the tarball which contains the PKGBUILD and possibly other required files, like systemd-units and patches (but often not the actual code).
    2. Extract the tarball (preferably in a folder set aside just for builds from the AUR) with tar -xvf foo.tar.gz.
    3. Run makepkg in the directory where the files are saved (makepkg -s will automatically resolve dependencies with pacman). This will download the code, compile it and pack it.
    4. Look for a README file in src/, as it might contain information needed later on.
    5. Install the resulting package with pacman

  • I have downloaded and 'installed' Mavericks, restarted but it's still 10.8.5 and the Mavericks Install is still in my Applications folder.  I've done this three times, still no result.  Help!?!

Can anyone help with this?  I've searched the help databases and can't seem to find an answer to this anywhere.

Do  you have the 5.3 GB Mac OS X Mavericks installer application? Please do the following:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Now try installing Mavericks, but before you do I recommend you put a copy of the installer in your Downloads folder and make a backup of your current system.

  • Does re-downloading and installing Mavericks retain existing files, apps etc.

I have a fully functioning Macbook Pro but email has become unstable.  I want to reinstall email but I believe I need to reinstall the complete OS.  If I re-download Mavericks and install it, will my existing files, apps etc. be retained ?
    thanks

Yes, your existing files will be retained ... assuming all goes well!
Of course, you should have a complete, thorough backup before attempting a re-install.  Hopefully you will not need to use it.

  • Stuck on "FileVault Login" screen after downloading and installing Mavericks

After I finally installed Mavericks all it does now after booting up is show the Apple symbol and a popup comes up saying something like "FileVault login informatoin has changed, enter your old password."  But I can't even type anything. Mouse still moves but I can't type so I can't login?

Try rebooting into safe mode by holding down the shift key after pressing the power button.

  • How long does it take to download and install Mavericks?

  • Can I download and install Mavericks for free?

    Hi,
I have a macbook with Snow Leopard installed since I bought it. Now I need to upgrade operating
Systems to be able to install new softares, but Yosemite doesn't support one of the softwares I use to work, so I need to find the Mavericks OS to upgrade my macbook, does anyone know if ? Where I can get it?
    Thanks,

If you downloaded Mavericks before Yosemite came out, sign into the Mac App Store with the Apple ID you used to get it, click on the Purchases tab, and download it.
    If not, you can't.

  • Downloading and installing Mavericks

I am trying to upgrade my MacBook Pro to Mountain Lion.  The system check I did beforehand told me I could do this as my MB Pro is 2010 and the OS is 10.6.8 and that I should download Mavericks via the App Store.  But when I came to install the download I got a message saying the hard disk was used for Time Machine with no other option but to cancel out.
I read up some advice which said to close down and restart to try again.  Did that, turned off Time Machine and then got a message to say that my machine did not support Mavericks.
Two questions really.  1.  What do I do next? and 2.  Is it worth it?
I'm on a network using a MacMini which is also eligible to upgrade but gets the same message 'not supported'.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

That message means that you have got the "Backups.backupdb" folder in the root level of your hard drive. That folder is used by Time Machine to store backups, so the OS X installer thinks that your hard drive is being used by Time Machine.
To fix this, open a Finder window, select the Go menu (in the menu bar) > Go to Folder, and type:
Then, move "Backups.backupdb" to Desktop (or, if there's nothing inside, you can drag it to the Trash and empty it). Finally, run the OS X Mavericks installer again and follow its steps.

Disable anti virus software if installed
Make sure the firewall is turned off in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall
    Make sure Gatekeeper is enabled
Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy then select the General tab.
Make sure either Mac App Store or Mac App Store and identified developers is selected. If that area is grayed out, click the padlock icon to proceed.

  • Since I've downloaded and installed OS X Mavericks I cannot browse from Safari through the proxy server except for Apple's site

I have a brand new MBP 15" Retina display. Decided to download and install OSX Mavericks before I did any other setup. However since I've done this installation the only website I seem able to browse is Apple's. Google just keeps coming up not able to connect through the proxy. I still have tons to do and need to be able to access a number of websites. I also cannot get to the App Store.
Does OSX Mavericks have an issue with proxy servers?
I am writing this on my MBP 13" Retina display on which I have NOT upgraded to OSX Mavericks and I am having no issues at all.
    Help please?
