Issues downloading free app updates after moving country

Hi,
I've recently moved from Australia to Germany and (stupidly?) updated my iTunes account to reflect that fact. I now keep being told in iTunes that several of my apps have free updates available but when I try to download them, iTunes store tells me that there are no updates for my account.
What should I do? I want to keep my apps up-to-date.

I have just done the same thing, moving from Australia to Sweden. I changed my billing info, and can no longer automatically update apps that I downloaded before moving.
There is a loophole, but Apple may of course close it at any time. The work-around, which is to update the apps from your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, is explained in this e-mail exchange with Apple's support rep "Brittany":

    I had the same problem. I just fixed it. There are several posts on many forums addressing the "5002" error that date back to the IT8 roll out. My solution started with the post linked below.

    After trying the suggested fix I posted the following:
    Thank you for posting this work around. My iPhone 3G has been unable to update apps as well as iTunes 8 running on my MBPro. I followed your instructions to the letter, but still have the same symptoms with “5002″ error. Next I backed up my Mobile Apps folder again (after the reinstall (I kept the original backup as well)), deleted all, and synced with my iPhone 3G. At this point only the apps from my phone are in the iTunes Mobile Apps. folder. No success. I still get the “5002″error in iTunes, and “unable to purchase” when updating apps using iPhone.
    Any suggestions?

    I logged onto my iTunes account, and discovered that there was now a blank Credit Card security/CCV field next to the CC number field. Also there was a weird message in red stating that my address did not seem to be traditional for my area, and required editing or some such nonsense. I deleted a few characters in the address field, re-typed them exactly as they were, filled in my CC CCV code, and clicked done. All problems fixed!

  • Prompting for previous owners account when downloading free App updates

    Hi, this is my first time here so apologies if I don't follow correct protocol! My brother in law gave me an iPhone 3G 2 weeks ago after using it himself for a couple of weeks only.
    I have a new iTunes account and have synched calendars and contacts ok. I have removed all of his content from iPod on the phone and now have only the tunes I have purchased from iTunes on my phone. I have purchased and downloaded apps, and downloaded free apps ok. My homepage tells me I have 3 free updates to download, but when I try to do so it prompts me for my b-i-laws iTunes password. have tried to do this when logged into my iTunes account and when not and still can't get past this issue. Only happens with free updates. Can anyone please help me? Thanks.

    I worked out the solution to the problem - remove the free apps my b-in-l had downloaded that there were updates for; reinstall them under my account.

  • I'm having a problem with downloading multiple app updates and moving songs between iTunes and my external hard drive.

    I'm having two problems with iTunes, but I'm not sure if they're related issues. First, when I try to click "Download All Updates" for apps, only one update will download and I will get successive error messages for all of the other updates. However, if I click update for each individual app, they download fine. Why am I not able to download all app updates simultaneously now.
    My second issue is that I cannot move songs from iTunes to my external hard drive or vice versa. When I drag the files, the blue plus sign appears, but the file does not appear where I moved it to.
    Both issues have been occuring for about month. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    While downloading select Downloads in the left-hand column and make sure Allow Simultaneous Downloads is unchecked. This seems to help with partial downloads...
    The other issue doesn't ring any bells.

  • Ipad issues downloading free apps from apps store

    i have bought recently a new ipad where i was trying to use my existing itunes account for doanloading few free apps. everytime i click on free and say install it start asking me to verify the details and enter secret code of my credit card in order to continue the purchase. it really annoys that why would it ask me to purchase an application which is for free.
    Please help if anyone knows the fix for the above mentioned issue.

    You could remove your credit card details and select none as payment type.

  • No application updates after moving country

    Hi all,
    I recently moved from Spain to Germany. I changed my account settings to reflect my new address, payment info, etc. However, since I've done that, I can no longer update my iPhone apps. I can see that there are are number of apps with updates in iTunes, but when I click on the respective link iniTunes to see the update details, I get a message telling me that there are no updates for my account.
    Does anyone have an idea what the cause of the problem is and how I can update my (purchased) apps?

    I would call Apple, but as a temporary work-around you could try a proxy server that makes it appear as if you are connecting to the internet from somewhere in Spain.
    If you don't know what I mean by proxy server, then you probably don't want to bother because its just a work-around and its not exactly 2 clicks to set up.
    Frankly I am surprised that moving countries within the EU caused you this problem.

    You could try this.
    Back up all data.Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
    Right-click or control-click the line and select

    from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Reboot and test.     You must contact iTunes support to get the problem resolved.

    Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.
    If you're being prompted that your payment information needs to be veriefied, then there is some aspect of your payment type which is being denied by your financial institution.  I'd like you to please follow the steps below to verify your information.
    Open iTunes.  If you are signed in to iTunes, skip to step 4.
    Note: Verify that you are signed in to the correct iTunes account. If you are unsure which account you're signed into, choose Store > Sign Out and proceed to step 2.
    Choose Store > Sign In.
    Enter your account name and password, then click the Sign In button.
    Choose Store > View My Account.
    Click the Edit Payment Information button.
    In the Payment Method section, choose None.
    Click the Done button at the bottom of the page.
    Click the Edit Payment Information button again.
    Enter your billing address exactly as it appears on your credit card statement.
    Select your credit card type in the Payment Method section.
    Enter your credit card information, your card's security code, and the expiration date.
    Click the Done button at the bottom of the page.
    If the issue persists, contact your credit card company and verify that they and any company they use to process credit card authorizations have the correct information on file.

  • Cannot BULK download App Updates after iTunes 9.0.1 Update

    I had a bunch of updates sitting there, and I decided to update iTunes before doing them. I thought that would be smart. However, after the iTunes update to 9.0.1 was complete I got this message when I tried to bulk download the app updates:
    *"The information on this page is outdated.*
    *Click OK to refresh the page. If you have available updates after refreshing, click Download All Free Updates."*
    I don't know what "refresh the page" means; I tried restarting iTunes & restarting the computer and nothing is working. The information is not outdated, as I really do have to download all the updates that are shown. I had to MANUALLY download each update, which is kind of a pain, but at least I was able to get the updates. The "download all free updates" (for a bulk download) button refuses to work though.
    Any ideas? I don't want to have to manually update each app every time if I don't have to. Thanks!

    All I have to do is select Applications from the Library list - then in the lower right corner select - Check for updates - if there are any then I select Download updates from the page that comes up and iTunes d/l the updates.

    Do you have enough funds in your bank account?
    otherwise iTunes sometimes black lists card if there are too many fradulent purchases
    Reason why they might black list a card is possibly you call in for alot of fradulent purchases
    One more reason can be because iTunes does actually limit the amount you can change payment methods
    Call AppleCare Phone support and have your call directed to iTunes Store

    We are fellow users here on these user-to-user forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple.
    If you have a credit card on your account then it needs to be valid. Have you tried removing it from yoru account ? On your iPad try tapping on your id in Settings > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Store on iOS 6+) and selecting 'View Apple ID' on the popup - that should give you a payments link on your account's page.
