Let's not start new threads every time you want to add information. Let's try to keep all the conversation in this thread.
When I give command to import the message is: no photos found.
Honestly, this isn't enough information to go on.
I think we'd need to see a screen capture of the folder of interest in your operating system, and the screen capture of that same folder selected in Lightroom's Import dialog box.
Also, what file types are the photos in this folder? Can you give me an example of the full complete exact name, plus extension, of one of these photos that you cannot import?

I found a regedit trick to prevent firefox from popping up the "would you like to import settings from IE?" thing every time, but my issue now is that every morning I have to re confirm exceptions for sites that I routinely use... Is there a way to get around having to do that every morning when people log into this computer? Having issues when try to burn a disc., which I never had an issue doing. Yesterday when I tried to burn a playlist it says "checking media" but just sits there. I know drive is working because I can put in a purchased cd and can import it into my library, but now it just sits there and hums until I maually eject the disc.Before all this started it said something about that I should "calibrate disc", since then it won't let me do any burning. I can't find any options in " preferences to change anything except the burn speed. Any suggestions? Tried rebooting, tried using my wifes iTunes on same comptuer.

In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:

Lost my import settings pull down and menu

I've been having problems running Aperture....slow speed, not seeing previews...etc...
I was told to repair library data base by holding the opt+comm keys when opening Aperture.
I did a repair and was still having issues so I did a rebuild as a last resort.
Now when I try to import from my memory card I no longer have an import settings pull down or menu....essentially I cant import!
Any suggestions?

When menu items are missing it might be a problem of corrupted preferences files or a system wide problem.
As a test: Run Aperture from a different user account, for example the Guest account. Is the "Import" manual there?
If all menues are in a different user account, delete your User Preferences, as described in Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics (the paragraph "Delete the user preferences"). Log off and on again after doing that.
If the problem occurs in all accounts, reinstall Aperture.
And if that stll does not help, post back and tell us more - have you installed anything lately? Any other applications behaving strangely? Have you done any maintainance, cleaning running cleaner applications?

ITunes Import Settings - Conversions

I was just wanting to know how to change the settings of my itunes so that when I import music into it, it automatically converts the music from MP3 to AAC; so therefore the music imported is already in AAC format when it appears. I've set the import settings to AAC and all that, but when i either drag and drop music from explorer into the library; or go through the file-> add file/folder to library route, it still imports it as an MP3 and i have to convert it after.
Can anyone help?

All this really does is lower the quality of the music.
About the only reason you would need to do it is if you require an AAC file but iTunes and iDevices will work fine with MP3.
It's because I ran out of space on my ipod. I tried the 'convert higher bit rate files to ACC' thing, so it'd convert them as they synced onto my ipod; but practically all of the artwork failed to show up. I created the library in the hope it would solve the artwork issue (which it has, SCORE!) and it also eradicates the need for conversion every single time i want to sync my ipod (not sure if it would actually have to convert everything for each sync but oh well...)
It's slightly annoying i guess, i mean you have to add new music to both libraries instead of the usual one; but it's worth it, i have a 32 gig ipod and it's gone from being completely full to having over 10 gig of free memory which works out at about 2500-3000 songs worth (ish). Plus, there is little to no difference in sound quality which i can make it; and i have a good ear too

iDVD does not care about file sizes, as it compresses the file to the standard DVD format of mpeg2.
It only cares about length i.e. max 2 hours including titles etc.

Short version:
Best Performance is for videos of up to 60 minutes
Best Quality is for videos of up to 120 minutes
Professional Quality is also for up to 120 minutes but even higher quality (and takes much longer)

You can select this option regardless of your project’s duration (up to 2 hours of video for a single-layer disc and 4 hours for a double-layer disc). Because Professional Quality encoding is time-consuming (requiring about twice as much time to encode a project as the High Quality option, for example) choose it only if you are not concerned abo
In both cases the maximum length includes titles, transitions and effects etc. Allow about 15 minutes for these.
You can use the amount of video in your project as a rough determination of which method to choose. If your project has an hour or less of video (for a single-layer disc), choose Best Performance. If it has between 1 and 2 hours of video (for a single-layer disc), choose High Quality. If you want the best possible encoding quality for projects that are up to 2 hours (for a single-layer disc), choose Professional Quality. This option takes about twice as long as the High Quality option, so select it only if time is not an issue for you.
Use the Capacity meter in the Project Info window (choose Project > Project Info) to determine how many minutes of video your project contains.
NOTE: With the Best Performance setting, you can turn background encoding off by choosing Advanced > “Encode in Background.” The checkmark is removed to show it’s no longer selected. Turning off background encoding can help performance if your system seems sluggish.
And whilst checking these settings in iDVD Preferences, make sure that the settings for NTSC/PAL and DV/DV Widescreen are also what you want.

Anyone else having issues with this update?!?!?!
Can't access anything in my library while it's doing this.

I moved into a clean install last night and when I fired up iTunes 10.5.1. I held down "option" key, selected my original library and everything was perfect. That was until I quit. It started to "update" the library. I was slightly concerned, but since I had just moved into a new install I let it go and hoped for the best. For 85GB it took quite a while, close to an hour. This made me a little more concerned, but in the light of Apple, I resigned myself to the fact that "stuff" happens. And again hoped for the best. So I would imagine for 275GB would be a lot more. THEN after that was done it asked if I wanted it do something to match my settings? ***? My settings were the same as they were in the previous install. Or did something not go right with 10.5.1 in the other install and this was overlooked? I OK'd it and hoped for the best again.
But now I am getting an error as I startup iTunes:
"A required iTunes component is not installed. Please reinstall iTunes. (-42404)"
iTunes comes up just fine behind this error and after dismissing it all is just fine. Or so I think or am led to believe. I'm thinking it's a "phone home" component, so I'm not real concerned. That's why I came here today to look up this error and stumbled on this post that somewhat happened to me last night.
Looks like the process takes a while. And what it's updating I'm not sure, but I run nightly updates and all the "important" iTunes files in many iterations are safely backed up for reversion. Apple, never a dull moment . . .

I have a lot of photos (20GB) that have not yet been imported into an iPhoto Library. I am going to set up a new library with the iPhoto Library Manager (iPLM), but am wondering if there is a maximum number of files that can be handled in a single library?
2. Also, I don't think I want to import these, since that would create an iPhoto library as large as the source files. Are there any problems if I set up the preferences so that this library will not have the graphics imported into it?
3. With iPLM, can you have different sets of preferences for each library?

Apple advertises that iPhoto will handle 250,000 photos - I doubt that anyone has come close to that (or will)
I have 19,278 in 237 events - 22 GB - on a G5 iMac and it is snappy with no issues

It is a choice - if you do NOT import them then you will be responsible for all future management - deleting, etc. Moving to a different location or computer is much more difficult if you reference your photos instead of importing them.
Many people import them, burn the original source photos to CD or DVD and delete them from their disk letting iPhoto manage them

How do I remove an entry from the "Store Files" drop down list in the "Import Settings" section of Aperture 3.3.2

The dropdown list "Store Files" in the "Import Settings" section of Aperture 3.3.2 displays the history of the entries previously added to the list. Some of the entries are no longer valid and I'm trying to delete them but I can't find a way to do this. This is a screenshot. Does anyone know how to do this?

Is the MacOS X version in your signature correct? Then you cannot be using Aperture 3.3.2?
You should not be seeing duplicate entries in the "Store Files" pop-up menu. This looks like your Aperture Preferences file is corrupted and needs fixing.
Quit Aperture (and log off and on again, if you are running MacOS X 10.7 or later)
Then reveal your User Library (from the Finder's main menu bar, the "Go" menu. Hold down the options-key until the library apears in the drop-down menu)
In the Library folder select the "Preferences folder and locate the file "~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Aperture.plist"
Now you can either
remove the com.apple.Aperture.plist file to the Desktop, to force Aperture to create a new one, but you will have to set again your Preferences from the "Preferences" panel,
or make a backup copy of the file and edit it, if you are an experienced programmer and have Xcode installed. To fix the drop-down list you need to edit the item "RecentReferenceFolders" and delete the redundant folder names. Enter "recent" into the search field to find it quickly. If you click an item in the list, plus/minus buttons should appear. But only try this, if you know how to edit property lists, otherwise it will be much safer to delete the faulty list and to set your preferences again from the "Preferences" panel.

What are the best import settings for iTunes - AAC 160 / AAC 192 / MP3??

Hi I originally imported all my treasured CDs to iTunes several years ago, and they've served me well (AAC 128 - default setting) but in recent times hard-drive sizes have trebled and my much loved iTunes Library has not been updated.
I am thinking of re-importing all of my original CDs - as I think now that hard-drive space would allow for a higher quality but at the same time I do not want to fill my hard-drive completely with music - hence my question;
WHAT ARE THE BEST IMPORT SETTINGS CONSIDERING SIZE AND QUALITY?
(I know this has probably been asked a million times, but I did a search and nothing came up that answered my Q - also all the answers that came up in Google search where dated 2003/ 2004 - a little out-dated me thinks!!)

Personally I've started ripping everything Apple Lossless. That way I hope I never have to rip again.
I used to rip 320 mp3. I couldn't tell the difference between 320 mp3 and lossless, but, one day I might be able to - big maybe. But since disk price is not likely to go up, I figured I'd rip lossless from now on "just in case."
Probably few, if any, people could tell the difference between 256 AAC and lossless (I've done it at 192, but never at 256, and I have not bothered trying again recently - there might be a song out there where I could hear the difference, hence ripping lossless from now on - my time costs more than disk space . . .)
256 AAC is a pretty safe bet, unless you need mp3 compatibility, then use 256 (or 320) mp3.

The Video check box in the Import Settings is greyed out, what have I done?

I am using a Sony Handycam HDR-SR5E with final cut pro (v7.0l). When logging and transferring my recent files I found i only imported the sound. So returning to the log and transfer window, and checking on the import settings i notice the check boxes are grayed out and the video box is unchecked.
I have no idea what I have done, some of the files will allow me to import video, but the files i really need won't. Just retested the camera and the file i just recorded will allow me to import the video. Any ideas, i want to avoid making the same mistake again and ideally would like to get the video out of the camera.

Deleting FCP Preferences:
Open a Finder window. Set the view mode to columns:
Click the house icon that has your name next to it.
Click the folder "Library" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Preferences" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Final Cut Pro User Data" in the next column.
Move the files "Final Cut Pro 6.0 Prefs", "Final Cut Pro Obj Cache" and "Final Cut Pro Prof Cache" to the Trash and empty it.
When you have a stable set of preference files, download [Preference Manager|http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm] to back them up.

Import Settings not working

I have been trying to Import all settings from another project: File>Project Settings>Import Settings.. (all boxes) ticked - then navigate to another Logic Song and Open... nothing happens to the original.
I want to end up having imported the Midi Environment, Audio Environment and the same Arrange Page layout into the new song.
For some reason Import Settings does not do this - am I missing something?

this is sometimes caused by a corrupt itunes preferences file. folks can often get their custom import settings to stick by rebuilding their preferences file. (make a note of any custom settings you have though ... the rebuild will set all preferences back to their defaults.)

High Quality Import settings not working

Hi,
Running iTunes 6.0.4 for Windows and have completely removed and reinstalled it to try to resolve this problem.
When I go to the Importing preferences and I try to selet a "Custom..." bit rate....it always defaults back to 128kpbs. I've tried setting the AAC encoder to 192kpbs as well as the MP3 encoder. As soon as I go back into preferences, they have defaulted to 160kpbs.
What's going on here? Why won't iTunes let me use the higher bit rate settings?

I selected "ACC Encoder-iTunes Plus" for import settings to import cd's. I assumed music purchased from the iTunes Store was mp3 format.Which is it?

I selected "AAC-iTunes Plus" as my import settings when importing CD's to my iTunes library. When I reviewed "get info" on purchased songs from iTunes, it says "Kind: Purchased AAC audio file". All of the purchased songs in my library say this. I assumed all purchased songs were "automatically" imported in mp3 format. Do the import settings I chose also apply to purchased music? Also, what can I do to have my library songs changed to mp3 format?

All songs sold in the iTunes Store are AAC/256.
The import setting affects ripping and conversion. It has nothing to do with purchases from the iTunes Store.
If you need MP3s, you can convert your AACs by using this procedure: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550 But it would be easier to buy MP3s in the first place, for example from Amazon MP3.
MP3s can be used in iTunes or almost any other player, program or device.

Cannot change custom import settings in iTunes on aac

For some strange reason, my ability to change the AAC import settings in Itunes has very recently been eliminated. when i go to custom AAC it will not allow the drop down any longer? I had this ability!
