Issues linking media in cs3 project opened in cs5.5

So trying to help out a co-worker with a project that was originally created in Premiere Pro 2. Taking that to CS 5.5 we are having issues linking AVI files. In Premiere Pro 2 and in CS3 premiere has no problem seeing the avi as an audio file or isn't bothering with what format they are in. But in CS5.5 we get the Cannot Link Media The selected file cannot be linked because its type(video) does not match the original file(audio).
When you look at the avi files through media info there is only audio information no video information. I am not sure how these audio avi files were created either in the first place.
But what would be the best way to get these files working in CS5.5? would it be best to just get all the audio avi files and convert them to an audio format(wav, mp3, wma) then replace them so we don't loose the edits? Or is there a way we can tell premiere to just use the file anyway?
The simple and/or quickest solution would be the best.

Thats what I figured should be done but I was hoping for a lazier solution. Thank you.

  • How to link media to a project

for some reasons imovie have lost the trace for media files in one of my projects.
    finally i found a solution!!
Close imovie and go to the project file, back it up, and show package contents, inside open the project file, it should open in a property list editor.
DON'T EDIT AND SAVE!! or your project misteriously will disappear in imovie!!
open $objects and scroll down until you can find the path where imovie expects for the original event folder to be, and it's name.
move and rename the event accordingly.
if the project utilizes different events continue scrolling down and check the path of other events, do the same as above.
quit property list editor, again, don't save!
open imovie and check if all is ok.
Using this method i successfully relinked 2 projects that probably i broke when i have restored it from an older time machine backup, so they were no more in sync with the new name-position
    good luck!

You just need to Build In the graphic or sound, and set the build to appear when the bullet does. You will need to set the bullet build so that Delivery is "By Bullet", then check the "Set separate timings for elements" option. This will allow you to interleave a non-bullet build into the bullet build sequence. Next, put your sound file on the slide, then give it a Build In. In the Build Inspector, click the More Options button to show the Build Order window. Here you can drag the sound file build so that it builds in with the bullet you want (you can set it so that it builds in automatically with the bullet build, by using the appropriate dropdown menu).

  • Sequences is displaying wrong media when CS6 project opened with CC

I recently upgraded from CS6 to CC.  I have many old projects that I have made in CS6.  A few of my clients have requested changes recently and when I opened the project it opened in CC instead of CS6.  This did not seem a big deal to me as I have done this with older versions of Premiere and never had an issue unless for some reason i went back versions.  However this time is different.  I have noticed on more than one project that when I export a sequence something goes wrong.
Lets say I am working with a wedding reception
-In preimere it plays fine the first time i open it.
    -then i export it
-when i watch my exported clip it is messed up
-when i reopen the project it plays messed up
now what i mean by messed up is the clip will start lets say instead of at the entrence of the bridal party but durning the toasts, with the wrong audio to go with it.  that will play through then the dances start.  when it switches to a different clip i will now again be watching footage of the toasts.
the sequence within the project looks fine.  each cut clip in the timeline has the right file name, and is trimed how I had it and as for the overall look like i said it looks fine, however upon playback it will play the worng clips just like in the exported file.
I have no idea why it is doing this of how to fix it quickly.
anyone have any tips of thoughts.....

  • Importing Captivate CS3 project into Captivate CS5.5

Our company has a number old projects that were created and saved in Adobe Captivate CS3.  We need up update the material using Captivate CS5.5; however, they will not open in this version.  We believe it may be due to older Flash files and the drop in support of AS2 files.  We can open these projects in Captivate CS4, then CS5.5, but this is not a long term solution for us.  Is there a converter or some other option available???   Thank you very much.

Apart from opening Captivate files with other Captivate versions has you have already done, there is no other solution for upgrading your projects.
Bite the bullet and do this immediately to get your projects into CPTX format files.  Cp7 or later versions will not open .cp format files.  Only CPTX.  So since you appear to currently have Cp versions that will open your old Cp3 files, you are best advised to do this right away.  Otherwise your next upgrade to Cp7 or Cp8 later this year could see you tossing all courses built in the older Cp format.

  • Reconnecting Offline Media to Previous Project

I have been reading the previous threads concerning the subject of 'Media Offline', but have not quite found the answer to my particular problem.  If I have missed such a thread, please point me to it.  Thanks much.
I began editing a project in CS4.  I should point out that all of the originally digitized HDV (to .avi files) footage is the same, orignally digitized footage.  I was forced to continue editing this project on a completely different computer (both were PC's).
I imported the original CS4 .prproj file into CS5.  As expected, all of my Timeline 'Sequences' as well as all of my sublips organized into numerous bins in my 'Project Panel' also showed 'Media Offline' when I tried to open them in my 'Source Panel.'  This was before I re-imported all of the original .avi files (the raw whole tape files) into this newly created CS5 project.
I then re-imported all of the aforementioned originally digitized .avi files to my D: drive.  I then created a new bin in my 'Project Panel' and imported those .avi files into my CS5 project.  I assumed this was the method for re-connecting the original raw files to the old project pointers. The newly created 'Peak Files' were kept in a folder also on my D: drive.  But after re-importing all of the original digitized files, I am still getting 'Media Offline' both on my Timeline edited 'Sequences' as well as any sublcip file in the bins of my 'Project Panel.'
Is there a step I am overlooking?  Is there a re-connection process I am missing?  Shouldn't I be able to take a CS4 .prproj file and open it up in CS5 and continue editing it there with the original source asset files?  Or am I going to have to go through all of my original footage again and create new subclips and 'Project Panel' bins?
I should also point out that the raw .avi tape files play fine in my 'Source Panel.'  It's just that none of my Timeline 'Sequences' or 'Project Panel' subclips will connect.  Of course, I could just start over and go through all the tapes and reorganize.  But that will take me two to three weeks.
    I am running CS5 5.0.2; Windows 7 Pro x64; 12GB of RAM, nvidia GTX-470.
Finally, I should mention that I do also have all of the original tape files in .mpeg format residing on the same D: drive, although in a different folder if that makes any difference?
Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.
    Tom

I have done this with several projects recently (CS4 projects opened in CS5) and although they are DV not HDV, I don't think you are doing this right.  I copied the whole CS4 project with directories to the new machine.  In my case, the captured files are in a subdirectory.  I opened the CS4 project file and CS5 prompts to rename.  The files are right where there were before, so no relinking is even needed.  In some instances where assets were not, ordinarily relinking worked.
I imported the original CS4 .prproj file into CS5.
I did not import into; I opened the CS4 project with CS5.

  • Premiere crashes when linking media

    Hi there,
Premiere crashes almost every time I try to link media. The project file is on the computer's C drive, which has 1TB spare, the graphics card is using its latest driver and the machine is almost brand new. The media is 4K RED files on 2TB USB 3 drives. The project also has some old incarnations of the project subsumed in it via imports.
Please find the PC specs here:
    Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
    16GB RAM
    i7 4790 processor
    NVIDIA GTX 760
If I can provide any additional information please let me know.
    Any thoughts are hugely appreciated.
    Thanks....

The newest versions of PrPro come with some apparently major code changes, especially how they apply some of the effects. In other words, the "apparent" effect is just the same, but the code to create that (and what it's **** behind the curtain) is apparently different, some things like that (much surmise here). The result is not all steps of all previous projects come "forward" properly. The footage, yes; the project's settings and effects, maybe, maybe not so well.
Kevin Monahan, staffer that frequents this forum and is EXCEPTIONALLY helpful here ... is a man of many years experience in pro video. He was a certified expert and trainer on FCP I believe years ago, actually on the design team for a version or so, and has done a lot of major editing work. He notes that no matter what anyone says about it, he ALWAYS taught the Bible of Pro Editing ... no project ever got updated software while in process. For the exceptions, a new project file would be created in the newer software version, then each asset or group of similar assets got brought "forward" individually and tested for proper operations. After everything was working, THEN the project could officially take off in new software versions.
With so many continual projects these days, and with continual "upgrades" of software, this is a right b*tch to follow. But still wise. Especially as a project nears completion, it's wise to leave it in whatever version it's in. For someone like me who's got one machine for all editing purposes, going back and forth between software versions is a much bigger pain than say if I had a pair of editing machines, one running newest, one just back a bit, and then leap-frog them as things move forward. There's also cloning and swapping discs as a way to change software ... and of course CS6 and any one of the CC versions can co-exist on the same machine "live" at any time. Multiple CC versions ... no. Only one CC version at a time.
USB3 may not be the reason for your crashes, but it could be part of the chain of events. The newest versions of PrPro as noted are heavier apps than before, demanding more resources ... and for that demand, capable of new tricks. Some of the Old Things they actually do differently, so what was once able to run the older versions has nothing to do with being able to run here & now. It's an unfortunate part of modern life with these blamed computer tools. One that someone like me operating on a rather smaller hardware budget than many of the folks who post here do finds ... difficult, rather challenging ... but there it is.
One suggestion ... when migrating a project or it's assorted bits & pieces "forward" ... I do suggest copying any assets no matter what they are (sequences, stills/graphics, footage, sub-clips, anything) into new folders created for that new project, then importing  them into the project as you copy them forward. Check out say, the footage scrubbed in the source monitor or what not ... the sequences individually scrubbed on the timeline, that sort of thing. If you hit a glitch it's easy to know what that glitch is related to rather than hunting through gigs of project stuff to find one dang frame or subclip or effect that's killing the whole thing.

  • CS3 prproj files in CS5 ?

While extensively searching I see contrary information which puzzles me and makes me doubt if I could buy CS5.
    1.
    Could CS3 .prproj files ( ex XP 32 bit )  be opened in CS5, on a 64 bit i7 950 machine,  without problems after having installed a new fresh CS5 ( no upgrade from CS3 to CS5 ) ?
    Do I loose CS5 features while processing CS3 files in CS5 ?
And, most important, are the CS3 files ( opened in CS5 ) also prone to the Mercury video card acceleration while rendering into mpeg2 ( no avchd ) and playback those mpeg2 files =
Sorry if these are too basic questions, but I need help anyway which I was unable to trace anywhere else.
    Thanks for any help.

    Could CS3 .prproj files ( ex XP 32 bit )  be opened in CS5, on a 64 bit i7 950 machine
    Yes.
    without problems
Probably. Always backup your original project before proceeding.
    after having installed a new fresh CS5 ( no upgrade from CS3 to CS5 ) ?
There is no such things as an "upgrade," per se. Each version is a standalone installation.
    Do I loose CS5 features while processing CS3 files in CS5 ?
No. A CS3 project becomes a CS5 project on import/opening. You may lose some CS3 effects, but nothing in CS5 is unavailable.
And, most important, are the CS3 files ( opened in CS5 ) also prone to the Mercury video card acceleration while rendering into mpeg2 ( no avchd ) and playback those mpeg2 files =
Yes. Sort of. I think so. Mercury Playback Engine does not accelerate rendering, but instead accelerates certain effects. But I think the answer to your question (or the gist of it, anyway) is still "yes."

  • Dynamic link media offline...will only reconnect if both AE and Premiere Pro CC are open

    Hi,
I have a sequence that has dynamic linked media and it will not re-connect unless I have the after effects project open as well? This is causing major issues with render time. I have updated my mac, made sure my CUDA Driver is up to date Version: 7.0.36 and all of my adobe applications are up to date as well. Any ideas as to what is causing this error. I considered leaving both programs opening while exporting but the render time jumps up to 20 hours :~X and it is just a 27 minute wedding ceremony....only 1080p.

I do not. I made sure to uninstall them prior to going to CC. However, after multiple tests/theories I believe to have discovered the issue. I was using a third party plug in called neat video, which is a denosier. I found that overtime I use this effect the link would not hold up and I could not get it to reconnect unless both programs were open. I decided to try red giants denoiser on the same project and I had no issue connecting through dynamic link even when AE was not open. I'm not sure that this is the only solution or if was the root problem...but it seems to have fixed my issue. Everything seems to be working properly now that I have removed the neat video filters in after effects. Thanks for your time and help!

  • Problem opening a Premiere cs3 project in Premiere cs4

i recently did a clean install on a new machine with adobe premiere cs4
i attempted to open the project in adobe cs4 that i created in adobe cs 3
( i confirmed that the project isnt corrupted as the same project plays fine on another machine that has cs3 running)
Here is what happens When i open the project in cs4 it goes through the stages below and keeps looping and indexing.
*first pass: i first see adobe indexing the project and there is a  media pending display in the program display and on the time line the thumbnails have not been created where the edits are.
    * second pass: adobe finishes the indexing and then i see adobe looping again to conforming the video again, there is still a media pending display in the program display  but this time the thumbnails have appeared on the timeline and i see the subclips in the project bin.
    * Adobe stops indexing but there is still the media pending display on the program display so then i grab the timeline slider to scroll throught the project and then the indexing process starts all over again in this endless loop.
The project is located on a local drive and i turned off indexing on the drive.
I also tried deleting the rendered and preview files from the cs3 copied project , hoping that
CS4 would recreate everything. and still no luck
Any specific steps that i can do to trouble shoot this problem

When one Opens a CS3 Project in CS4, there is a lot of work that needs to be done. I'd Open the Project, and go get some coffee (decaf, so you will not loose your patience). Just let it do its thing with no input to the computer at all. Come back in 5 - 10 mins. and see if all have been completed. Be patient.
If you are actually getting a loop in the Conforming, Indexing and the rest - remember be patient - then close down and reboot. Try Importing the CS3 Project into a New Project in CS4 to see if things improve.
BTW did I mention being patient?
    Good luck,

  • Opening large cs3 project in cs4

i am attempting to open cs3 project in cs4. i have opened and imported. with both i get an error message.
    error.... audioRender/AudioRenderContentConstructor.opp-110
i cannot find this one on the net.
can anyone explain? any hints on how to import?
    carl

I have no idea what sort of problem the error message refers to. It implies something funky with the audio content in the CS3 project
The single time I imported a half finished CS3 project into CS4:
    I opened a new project in CS4
Right click in the project window> import> select the CS3 project file
CS3 project file appears in the Project window
I double clicked it and it opened right up. Finished the edit in CS4 & output to delivery format with Export> Media> to AME
Audio in this project was standard 48k stereo tracks.

  • Can Ppro CS3 projects be imported by Media Encoder CS4

    Hello:
I have Ppro CS3. I also have the Design Suite CS4.  I would like to render out Ppro CS3 sequences or projects into F4V files in Media Encoder CS4.
Does anyone know if this is possible?  When I select "add Premiere sequence" in Media Encoder CS4 and find the Ppro project in the file tree Media Encoder hangs just upon selecting the Premiere project without even attempting to add to the render queue.  I am not sure if this is because CS3 project are incompatible, or for some other reason. As mentioned, Media Encoder CS4 hands as soon as the Premiere project is clicked to selected and before "ADD" is clicked to add to the render queue.
Anyone come across this problem?  Is it fixable, or are Ppro CS3 projects just incompatible with Media Encoder CS4.
    Thanks.
    Jeff

    I appreciate the reply.
However, unfortunately, I do not have Premiere Pro CS4.  This is why I am trying to export to Media Encoder CS4. I own the Design Premium CS4 suite which has Media Encoder CS4 version built in.
Media Encoder actually is a stand alone product.  When you bring the program up, It has import options for the files you wish to encode.  One of the options is to import a PPro sequence.  However, when searching the system for Sequences, I could only figure out how to get to the Pproj files.
Documentation appears to indicate the Pproj files are compatible with Media Encoder.  However, when I droped in the Pproj file from Premiere Pro CS3, I got a message that it was not a compatible file (message text may not have been that exact statement).
This is why I was curious to see if there is a version compatibility issue, or if someone can tell me how to other render out of Premiere CS3 into the Media Encoder version that comes with CS4 suites.
    Thanks.

  • RAID DRIVE WON'T WORK IN LINK MEDIA BROWSER

I have a RAID 5 drive connected to my MACPRO (MacPro5,1), OSX 10.9.2. Its working fine on OS. In Premiere Pro CC I can import files from it no problem, everything seems to be fine until I try to link media from it. The link media browser won't access it. I can see it, I can see the RAID drives icon, but it won't access the files.
In the link media browser it won't show on the Local Drives list on the left pane. When I double click on local drives, on the right pane I can see the RAID HD icon, but when I click on it it won't open it. It knows its there but can't access it. I don't get it. I can import files from it, etc, but not link files. I would have to redo the whole sequence with files from that RAID drive and its days of work.
I would appreciate enormously any help with this issue.

    Adobe CC 2014 v8.1
    iMac 27"  3.4GHz w/12GB Ram.
    OS 10.9.5
    OWC Mercutry ELite Pro Dual.
    RAID 0
    Thunderbolt.
No adapters or daisy chaining going on.
The RAID is new and only has about 700GB of data on it.
I read on Creative Cow that alexojedav522 was able to figure out that the size of the drive was his issue:
    https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/3/954245
After reading that I tried repartitioning my RAID into two sections of 2tb each (let's call them Partition1 and Partition2).
So Partition1 is just the original partition (which was 4TB) shrunken down to 2TB.
Partition2 is the brand new partition.
Oddly enough, I can access Partition2 via Media Browser just fine.
And when I move media onto it I can relink it as well).
But Partition1 is still not accessible via Premiere at all.
I am currently moving everything off of Partition1 and onto Partition2, so that I can at least relink my project and get to work.
But obviously that isn't a permanent solution.
