Issues Logging out of accounts

Trying to find if my Kernel panics are software or hardware so I logged into my test account and sometimes when I log out I get a blue screen that takes forever to go away. This also sometimes happens when I reboot. I think my issues are SOFTWARE. But how can I fix this?

My mother passed away several months ago, and yet whenever I log into Skype it shows her as being online, which is rather disconcerting. Skype has been deleted from her computer, but the issue persists. How do I make sure that her account is logged out everywhere so that the rest of the family doesn't see her as being "online" whenever we use Skype?

Please accept my condolences for your recent loss.
Unfortunately, this is a known issue that Skype is aware of and working to resolve. What you could do is apply to Skype Customer Service to request the account be removed (deleted); you will be asked to provide copies of certain verifying documents in order to process this request. Deleting the Skype program from a computer or mobile device will not rectify this network online/offline status issue. The work-around is, if you knew your mom's e-mail address and the account was still active, you may have been able to re-set the password and then change the account status to offline prior to signing out again.

Using firefox with yahoo toolbar I cannot access my hotmail button, it locks up my email account, I cannot read/delete emails or log out of account.

I use the yahoo-firefox toolbar that has buttons you can access from the toolbar, mail etc. I have a button for Hotmail it goes to the account but locks up, it will not let me read/delete emails nor log out of my account. I can access it from another laptop that is not running the same versions of firefox/yahoo toolbar.

Last but not least, for the site that has the problem:
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
(1) Clear Firefox's Cache
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:
* right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
* Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can open the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

I upgraded from Lion to Mavericks when the new OS came out, but the problem that this is regarding has only started to occur this last week so I'm not entirely certain that they are related. All the same, I would appreciate any help or guidance to the problem at hand.
When I leave my laptop unattended, I always log out from my account by clicking on the account feature at the top right hand side of my desktop. Previously, this action has always worked to log me off from one account and bring me to the menu where you can sign back in (w/ password) or log into a guest account. However, starting this last weekend, when I use this same feature my screen seems as though its logging out, but then loads a white screen. There is not a loading icon, or any indication that it is processing a command. I've left it this way for up to 30 mins to see if it was simply slow, but this is not the case. It remains white and my only recourse is to hold down the power button and boot the system. When it turns back on it brings me to the normal log in screen and seems to work normally until I try this action again, which it then repeats the same process.
Now, the only unusual action to have occured before this happened this past weekend, and seems to be when this all started. I logged out as I normally would when leaving my laptop, it had the normal white screen before bringing up the sign in menu, but I closed it shut before the log in screen came up. I fear this may have been my undoing because when I returned I had to boot the system as I am doing now.
Help me, Apple Support Communities - you're possibly my only hope.

Should this be of any further assistance, the problem is the exact same even if I use the LOG OUT feature from the Apple menu at the top left of the desktop.

My dock would not appear. No change after a restart. After force quitting applications in order to log out all I have now is my account desktop picture and a cursur that moves okay but no icons.

All I had to do was complain. I synced my iPhone to the Windows machine, checked the other account at iTunes prompting (where no apps had shown up previously), reconnected the iPad, and 140 apps downloaded including the App Store. I have no idea why.

Logging Out - Time

I have upgraded my 1 month old Mac Book Pro to Leopard. I have not yet installed anything as I had the blue screen on upgrade and had to do a fresh install.
All is well, it works but when I shut log it takes 2- mins. I see my background and a spinning disk (not beach ball) but literally it sits there. I have carried out the login update and have turned auto login off.
Any ideas - it is a real pain and I do not want to use the power button every time. Anyone else found this ?

Well, today's a different story from yesterday. I did a restart. I got prompted that my main user was still logged on and needed an admin password to boot him (me) out. OK... it booted my 'un-log-out-able' account, and restarted.
At this point previously the system would auto-log on, but today it just goes to the login panel.
I logged in to that account and logged out without opening anything. It logged out in seconds. First time for everything.
Then I restarted the machine holding the shift key to do a safe mode boot, and repair permissions etc. Now all I don't know is how long it will take to log out after doing stuff in that account. But since it's no longer my main account, I'm just happy to let it sit unused. I'll use it to install iLife, and hopefully I'll be able to use GarageBand in all of the other users account, including mine! (In Tiger I had Garageband issues where all users on this machine could use garageband except me, the installer!).

It depends on what extactly you mean by Log Out.
Quitting iChat will Log Out all accounts that you have logged in.
Clicking where it says Available (Or Away and Selecting Off Line from that menu will log that account only Off Line.
Your AIM Accounts (Those that Login to AIM) can also be set to Invisible. You can see your Buddies ON Line but they cannot see you.
MORE.
iChat will Launch if you have the Computer ON and iChat unopened when someone sends you an IM.
This is because a support app called iChatAgent (Snow Leopard and Earlier) or IMAgent in Lion effectively "Listens" for such an event.
On you First Off Line IM from an AIM Buddy tyou will get an Accompanying IM from AIMSysMessage asking if you want to receive more.
Answering "No" will stop Off Line IMs (Those that come when you open the computer).
You can only turn this On again at AIM Settings (You can use it to turn them Off if you are not sure - you need to Login there).
IN addition there is a setting in the iChat Menu > Preferences > General Setting that states about setting your Status to Off Line when you Quit iChat.
This tends to stop those IMs that launch iChat when you have the computer On.
Yet More.
You can Click and hold the iChat icon in the DOCK and select to set an Account Off Line there.
You can also do this in the iChat Menu > Accounts
If in the iChat Menu > Preferences > General Section you set it to Display the Menu Bar Status an Icon appears on the clock side of the Menu Bar and this is a drop Down menu as well.
If a Buddy List is the Front Window you can set Off line there as well.
Finally.
You can go to iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts and untick (Deselect) the box that says "Use this Account" for any type of Buddy List and it will be logged out.
Jabber accounts
Basically you have to use a Third Party app and do a Service Discovery and find out if the Jabber server you are using supports Off Line IMs
If there is an option to Register for that you would be able to set that in the Third Party app to turn it Off or On.

How to log out Apple Store in Firefox on Win Vista?

I managed my account on a Vista machine using Firefox and try to log out my account. But I can find log out button.
I called 1-800-my-apple, got transferred once and hang up. I killed firefox process. and deleted cookies....
Apple store still show I am logged in. When click on account link. you can change password, one click preference..That's crazy - a simple logout button will do everything, why is not there!

Settings > Store > Sign Out then sign in with with new ID.
Before you do this, for what reason did you create a new Apple ID?
Keep in mind, content (media, apps, etc) are PERMANENTLY tied to the Apple ID they were acquired with.

HT1527 Whenever I try to redeem a card or access my account I get a message "connection manager invoke failed to find service connection url". I reset my password, logged out and tried logging back in, same message. How do I solve this issue?

Try to go to the settings on your phone... Settings > Store > Click your Apple ID: And sign out from your account, then sign in again .... This solved the problem for me on my iPhone 4s

Log out issues

I'm having problems logging out of any account that isn't the admin.
All Apps and the finder quit but the desktop remains. the power button dialog window appears but sleep, restart, shut down & log out commands are ignored.

I would check the Preferences or Messages and then the Server Settings tab for the AIm Logins you have.
The server should be api.oscar.aol.com and the SSL option is normally On.
There have been issues with the AIM SSL server in the past.
It may pay to try it without SSL and see if there is any difference.
Also Messages will tend to reconnect if the connection gets dropped when not using SSL (SSL has to be manually reconnected for Security purposes).
Previously the iChat App uses the login.oscar.aol.com servers and when using SSL the software would change the server name by adding a leading s (slogin.oscar.aol.com).
This was on port 5190.
You have to Log Out to change any of these settings

Guest account and auto log out

I will be using Snow Leopard machines in a computer lab with guest accounts. However, I've read that when the idle timer ticks over, the dialog box confirming the Guest account's files will be deleted comes up and does not time out (like a normal account would).
So the machines never auto log out. In an environment where most users don't log off to protect their privacy, this is an annoying problem.
Is this still an issue? Is there a way to turn off that dialog box confirming logout? Or some other way to get my Guests to auto log off?

it would actually be pretty easy to create a automator script that runs a bash script like "sudo exit" which would then prompt for the password of a admin.

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

My iChat account on Messages stays logged out Mountain Lion

Since I upgraded to Messages Beta while on Lion, my iChat account has randomly logged out constantly while in use...
The only way I could fix this was by restarting my computer, but eventually it would log out, and stay logged out, again.
Now having upgraded to Mountain Lion, and today updating to 10.8.1 (hoping it would fix the issue), nothing has helped.
In Mountain Lion, my Messages now logs out within 5 minutes of being logged in, and stays logged out.
I've tried fixing the port on the account, using/not using SSL, trying with/without using proxy, etc...
I'm not a pro with using these complicated internet thingys, but I just want my iChat to work (in Messages!!!!).
