I need to install and configure Active Directory and DNS service on a

IP Address: xx.xx.93.158
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.252
Default Gateway: xx.xx.93.157
DNS: xx.xx.64.10
I have experience on installing AD and DC, DNS services on local
servers (which then the server becomes the DC for the local network)
but I hesitate to do this on a publicly facing production server.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to find a proper guide for my case.
Would appreciate if someone could guide me on the steps I need to
take so that I will not disturb the current network settings. (A
little down time for installing the services and features is ok as
long as I don't lose connectivity)

You want to install AD on an Internet Server?
According to your description your server has one public IP-address and
no internal IP-address and you want to install AD on this Internet
server?? Is that correct??
Can you tell us the intended use of this server. Do you want to host
services on this server, which need AD authentication?
If you have a second NIC and your DC is on another local machine I
would not expose your local AD on an public accessible server. If this
server shall become a DC it should not have more than one IP-address.
If you want to access data on this server via Internet securely I would
recommend a VPN solution - preferably not running on the server itself
but on a separate firewall between the server and the internet. In this
case I would have no see a big security problem running AD on this
server.

I am wondering if it is possible to install and run Windows Server 2008 on a Mac Mini Server as a VM as my main application uses Windows VisualBasic and Fox Pro and requires a Static IP to connect to it, My other offices connects to Windows Server via RDP.
Basically I am researching a Server for the same purpose and since Mac Mini and OsX both are robust in nature it can fit the bill if every thing work fine.

I checked my Internet Connection, and no problems with that, Wndows update works fine.
RegardsThe reason these solutions all work is because previously these machines were WSUS CLIENTS, and thus looking to the (sometimes no longer present) WSUS SERVER to find the WSUS Dynamic Installer update.
By unlinking the GPO or moving the server to the Computer Container (not OU, btw), you effectively revert that machine to being an Automatic Updates client, and it can then obtain the WSUS Dynamic Installer update from Automatic
Updates.
You can also achieve this objective by:
1. Run gpupdate /force (to reset the 90 minute GPRefresh timer).
2. Edit the registry and set the HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU "UseWUServer" value to ZERO, which also disables the machine as a WSUS Client.
From there you'll have at least sixty minutes (minimum GPrefresh interval) to install the WSUS Role, after which the machine will automatically revert back to the previous "WSUS Client" status -- which, presumably, is to be a client of itself.

[SOLVED] VBox: Access shared folders from Windows Server 2008 Guest
Hi,
I have installed virtualbox v4.2.4 on Arch and I launch a WIndows Server 2008 guest. I want to access shared folder from guest. How to do it?
Last edited by toni (2012-11-26 00:31:21)Hi,
I have done this but it does not work.
My network is configured as a NAT in virutalbox.
Also from WIndows server 2008 guest I do:
net use z:\\vboxsvr\mySharedFolder
Do I have to install additional software in host or do I have to configure something in Windows server 2008 guest?

Oracle 11g R2 install problem on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
Hi all,
Trying to install the Oracle 11g R2 database onto Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.
I get as far as running the setup and a black window flashes up on the screen and disappears.
The log files only show the following:
Using paramFile: C:\Temp\database\install\oraparam.ini
Checking monitor: must be configured to display at least 256 colors. Actual 65536 Passed
The number of files bootstrapped for the jre is 0.
The number of files bootstrapped for the oui is 0.
I've tried running setup -debug from the command line but no further information is logged.
Any help in troubleshooting further is appreciated. That is the complete log file. No error messages or further information is given.
I'm not sure how to check:

I have checked on:

The server meets all the hardware requirements. The default file share is accessible and it is running a supported browser. The installer is being run with Admin rights. I'm not sure what else I need to check. -

I'm trying to install 10g2 on a windows sever 2008 box.

After extracting the installer that was supposed to work on server 2008, I get this:

Issue Installing SP2 for Windows Server 2008 SP1
Hello, I have a very annoying issue, and I hope someone can help a bro out.
Server: Windows Server 2008 SP1 64-bit
Issue: SP2 wont install on Windows Server 2008 SP1
This is what I am seeing when I check the event viewer:
1. (Information) Windows Servicing is setting package KB948465(Service Pack) state to Staging(Staging)
2. (Error) Windows Servicing failed to complete the process of changing update 948465-382_neutral_GDR from package KB948465(Service Pack) into Staging(Staging) state
I have no idea why this is coming up, nor why the server cant fix the issue, but now I am forced to deal with it. So if anyone has any helpful tips it would be greatly appreciated.
What I have done so far:
I have downloaded the standalone SP2 file from microsoft, and tried to install, still failed. Just sent me to the prereq page, which is pretty useless considering the fact I already have SP1 installed, and nothing new has changed physically or digitally
in the system.
Also, although not a huge issue, I also have a security update that is failing, basically with the same issue as the SP. Below is its Error event log.
(Error) Windows Servicing failed to complete the process of changing update 974318-11_neutral_LDR from package KB974318(Security Update) into Staging(Staging) state
Im hoping that upon discovering the SP issue, I can resolve the security update issue, as the errors have the same issue(failed to complete staging state).Thank you for your time.
~I will provide any further info if needed.Thank you for pointing me in the right direction Milos. Yes I ALWAYS google my issues before going on forums for help. And to no avail. However, below is the relevant info(sorry I did not post this the first time;first time dealing with an issue like this,
so I wasnt for shore what relevant data pertained to this issue):
I also did not copy and paste the entire log in here(obviously) because its huge, however I will post link to full file if requested/needed, but hopefully I grabbed the entire log for my SP2 update failure issue. All I can grab from this log is that the
CBS failed. However, I have no clue where to go after that..

Install Agent12c on Windows Server 2008 R2
Hi All,
I have to install Agent12c on on Windows Server 2008 R2, already there is Oracle 10g agent installed on the system. The OMS Server is a linux system. I am not able to find the setup of Agent12c for Windows Platform.
Please help in this installation.
Thanks
DeepakBy the way, here's some additional information . . .
If you are installing a 12c agent on a platform that is the same as the one on which your 12c OMS is running, then the agent software for that platform is available by default in the software library. So no action is required from your end. However, if you are installing on a platform that is different from the one on which your 12c OMS is running (this seems to be your case), then you must ensure that the agent software for the intended platform is downloaded and stored in the software library using the Self Update Console. Instructions to download the agent software using the Self Update Console are available here. Essentially, having the agent software is a prerequisite.
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24628_01/doc.121/e24473/self_update.htm#BEJHBBEI
However, that's a description of only the prerequisite; not really the procedure to install the agent. To install an agent using an interactive console, which I guess is the easiest, read this chapter. It's quite detailed; make sure you meet all the prerequisites before you head to the procedure.
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24628_01/install.121/e22624/install_agent.htm#CACJEFJI
And to install an agent in other ways, for example, using scripts and response files, read this chapter.

Oralce EPM Fails to install Weblogic on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64
I've run the installer on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 and it fails to install Weblogic. I don't have MIDDLEWARE_HOME/oracle_common. Config tool log says missing jars. When I go back to install and choose products individually, Weblogic Server is gray. When I click on Weblogic Server, the message at the bottom says can not be installed.
I have checked that I have extracted the following assemblies:
Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installer, Fusion Edition Release 11.1.2.0.0
Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Foundation Services Release 11.1.2.0.0 - Parts 1 - 4
Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Additional Content Release 11.1.2.0.0
I have run this same set of files on another server and Weblogic was installed. Am I missing something?I am not sure if it is your problem but I don't think R2 is officially supported, I did have problems with it when I first installed 11.1.2 so I installed with R1 SP2.
Cheers

Advice needed on installing CA on Windows Server 2008 for CUPS Calendar Integration
Hi,
I am trying to configure CUPS 8.0 to connect to Exchange 2008 to retrieve calendar information as detailed in the integration note at the link below:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cups/8_0/english/integration_notes/ExchInt.html
I have successfully completed everything up to the section Installing the CA on Windows Server 2008 but am now running into problems.
When I run the Role Services Wizard I get options to install Certificate Authority and Certificate Authority Web Enrollment but not Online Responder.
Can anyone advise why this would be the case?
It may or may not be relevant but the server that the customer has told me to install the CA on is a domain controller - could this be the issue?A bit more information - below is some of the output generated by the Windows systeminfo cli command.
Host Name: DOMDAT02
OS Name: Microsoft® Windows Server® 2008 Standard
OS Version: 6.0.6001 Service Pack 1 Build 6001

Boot Device: \Device\HarddiskVolume1
System Locale: en-gb;English (United Kingdom)
Input Locale: en-gb;English (United Kingdom)

The server is running Windows Server 2008 Standard and according to the Microsoft doc at the link below this does not support the Online Responder service.

Could the problem be that I need a server running Windows Server 2008 Enterprise?
