Issues on keynote

lately i have been working extensively in keynote and i have some mayor issues with this piece of software. and that's a shame really beacuse it can be a ver powerful tool to create beatiful presentations. So what are my issues?
here they are and if anyone can resolve the (keynote programmers or keynote program hackers feel free to joi n in!
1) why no: 'Save as' option in Keynote?
2) why is the most important preference pane hidden i.e. the Build Order window.
This should be a window all by itself.
3) why cannot make the build order window larger? cant read long files names or when have a long list of buolds in one page i have to scroll up or down which makes it a dragon to work with
4) why are the 'slide transition' and 'slide appearance' window are in the same floating window?
5) why are the keystrokes so weird and unintutive. the ones you need all the time aren't deafult keystrokes and you have assign them yourself. Come on Apple you can do better than that.
6) Really, reaaaalllly.... why is there no canvas on the left and top especially when building appearance transitions?
7) why is the font tracking (tighten or loosen' not a variable and why doesn't it appear in the font adjustment feature window?
8) why doesn't keynote has a multiple style formatting feature? Now only one copy style. But usually more than one style in a presentation.
9) why oh WHY cant i relink broken image links? In a normal fashion with a proper search function attached...
I know that you should save a package but other people in a big organisation dont know this. it should be a default setting! and if you choose to work with images that aren't embedded why doesn't keynote update them if images are changed.
i have some more issues but for now... please feel free to enlighten me with wisdom how to solve these issues.
really apple or keynote developers you should be ashamed for not having this in.

QT Issue in Keynote!!!! Please help, urgent

I am having serious issues with both '06 and '08 Keynote, I am trying to export a simple keynote that has a QT video in it, with 15 sec. transitions as a self-playing movie. I cannot get it anywhere near 15 sec. it always comes in betw. 24 and 30 sec. I don't know what to do, but if I take the movie playing in the keynote out, it does 15 sec no problem??? Why??? Anyone have an answer to this problem, please help. Thanks in advance

Use alv_line-typ parameter while you guild the ALV comments.
For heading use alv_line-typ = 'H'.
For su heading use alv_line-typ = 'S'.

Projector issues using Keynote

I've been using Keynote on my iPad for teaching, and it's been great so far. However, I've noticed that, sometimes when I'm talking and not using the iPad, the projector will lose its connection to the iPad. Once that happens, no matter what I do (restarting projector, restarting iPad, re-attaching cables, restarting Keynote, you name it) doesn't seem to get Keynote to show up on the projector again. (I.e. Keynote will open, but that special play button that lets you project onto the projector will not show up; instead, you get the regular play button that you see when it's not connected to anything.)
The initial connection to the projector is fine. It's only when the projector somehow loses the connection to the iPad/Keynote that the problem happens.
Has anyone else encountered this issue and, if so, have you solved it?

Never had that happen to me with Keynote. Are you sure the VGA connector didn't come loose?
I've had similar issues with other apps, e.g. iCab Mobile. Unlike Keynote, they don't prevent the iPad from going to sleep. And I found myself struggling to re-enable the connection to the projector afterwards on such occassions. Can't remember exactly what I did, but it did involve unplugging the VGA adapter and restarting the app in question (but neither the projector nor the iPad).

Is anyone having issues importing Keynote presentation from imac to ipad?

I paid a company to do a presentation for me, it was created in powerpoint, i downloaded Keynote for mac to import it into keynote on ipad,
problem is that it does not recognise some of the fonts and the sizing is different, the base layout is quite good and it works for us.
any thoughts on how to fix?

You can turn on iCloud on both devices to share the document "in the Cloud".

Font issue in keynote: it doesn't keep my selected font

Recently, all my keynote presentations (newly created or old ones) lost their choosen fonts. All the text is reset to what looks like an italic Arial.
the funny thing is, if I change the font in the master, reapply master to file, it is fine, but if I save, close, then reopen my file, the font is back to the Arial Italic.... very bizarre behaviour. I tried many things, nothing would do.

Audio transfer issues from Keynote to iDVD???

Hi all;
I built my presentation in Keynote.
I recorded the slideshow, so that way I can export it with the recorded timing.
I turned down the built in microphone in system preferences.
However, when I'm "previewing" my keynote through iDVD, I can't hear my sound...
What's the deal??

Can you tell me how you did this, I am having similar problems. I created a photo slideshow using Keynote 08, but when I exported to iDvd, my audio was not there and I did check the audio box before exporting.
Also, do you know how I can add multiple audio tracks on keynote and not just to the slides?

Quicktime playback issues with Keynote during SLIDESHOW

SInce I upgraded to Keynote / iWork 06 I'm experiencing the following problems during the SLIDESHOW. Some of my mpeg4 QT clips get frozen for the first 2 seconds: i can only hear the sound and then the images start after a couple seconds. As I'm teaching a big film class where the clips are the most important element, this is becoming particularly annoying (particularly to the students too). I have a Poerbook G4 with 1.5 GHZ and 1.2 GB DDR.

I did a few tests (removing all builds on the slide, changing the orders, using different clips, and even having the clip start right away). Nothing seemed to work... The problem stops to occur only if I remove all the slides from the presentation except the one with the clip: in that case the clip wil play smoothly even if there are other builds in the same slide—of course, a one-slide presentation is not an option for me!

How can I get Keynote '09 on my MacBook Pro OS 10.7.5?

I have 2 Macs. A MacBook Pro (purchased in 2009) and a Desktop (which was purchased in 2006 and won't run Maverick). Both hard drives crashed. Desktop was backed up, MacBook was not. (really bad). New hard drives on both. Thanks to recovery software, I saved most files. Rebuilt the MacBook and installed iwork 08 (which I had on discs). I had originally updated to iwork '09 (off the app store) on the old hard drive for the desktop and off discs(that disappeared) for the MacBook. Was able to pull iwork 09 from the Desktop for everything except Keynote. (It was still in '08 since I never used it on that machine). Keynote files that were originally created on the MacBook Pro using '09, of course now won't open because I have '08. Ordered iwork '09 discs. Installed on both desktop and laptop to get Keynote 09 and neither of them worked. Just gets an error message. Thinking this is a combination iwork '09 issue with the latest OS software 10.7.5. Can't find any updates out there. Help!

I had originally updated to iwork '09 (off the app store)
I suggest you the following, it has been able to sort out many issues with Keynote so its worth a go:
1 - Remove iWork, (use Appcleaner from Freemacsoft to completely uninstall all iwork files, it is freeware)
2 - Shut down the Mac and Start up again in safe mode (press shift key immediately after the start chime untill            the Mac symbol appears)    it will take longer to start up as the OS is being repaired
3 - When the Mac is fully booted, go to:   Applications > Utilities > Disk utility
       click the System hard drive in the list then first aid tab > Repair Disc
4 - Reboot normally
5 - re-install iWork from the Mac App Store, you dont need to buy discs as iWork has been purchased by you.
6 - install updates for Keynote from: Apple Menu > Software update

Keynote Export to PowerPoint

Well, I was using this work around just fine, until I upgraded to Office 2008.

Now I can't even open that PowerPoint file at all. I get the error in PowerPoint that it experienced an error and had to quit.
I'd love to blame Microsoft for this, but feel it is an issue with Keynote.
Any help on this one?

i'm having the same problem with exporting from keynote to powerpoint. I try to open an exported ppt file in powerpoint but it gives me an error - very frustrating. Also, when I exported it, it didn't export all the slides (when i open the ppt file with keynote).
I ended up saving it as an iwork 06 file - opened it from a keynote '06 version and then exported it. All the slides where there but when i go to powerpoint version 12 and open it - it doesn't. It did open in the old powerpoint version though.
both keynote and powerpoint have serious export problems -- grrr.

Keynote won't open the Inspector.

Each time I try to open the Inspector I get the following message:
An unexpected error has occurred.
Please quit and reopen Keynote.
I'm running Keynote '09 version 5.1 (1018)
OSX 10.6.8
I've run system update and run all the latest updates.
I've repaired permissions with disk utility.
I've deleted /Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWork09.plist

I have exactly the same issue with Keynote 5.3 from the App Store. I've wiped all trace of Keynote and installed from the App Store again. Repaired permissions etc... Opening the Inspector causes Keynote to produce the |"unexpected error" message every single time.

I have upgrade to Lion (10.7..) and Keynote too. One of the many problems is the error with "Document Warnings" with a window listing the missing images. Never had this before, any pointers please.

I just started noticing this error as well. Is it a file size thing (I'm importing movies, but that's never been a problem before). Whatever it is it's a deal killer for Lion (if that's the issue, or Keynote, sadly, if that's the issue).

Need some help with Keynote export

I want to create an swf file from Keynote that will be used in a looped Powerpoint slideshow. It will be no longer than 1 minute long.
I create the file and export as a .mov.
Then I used Visualhub to convert to an .swf. People have had lots of issues playing it
Then I converted the .mov file to .flv with Adobe Media Encoder, opened it in Flash and exported as .swf.
More problems.
I really like the ease of use and effects in keynote but the exporting is really bad.
Are there any alternatives programs for the mac.
I have already had a look at Sliderocket but it is web based which makes it slower and put images in slides a lot longer.
I really need to find a way of making decent swf files with good effects etc

The issue seems to be with Flash and how it is converting the QuickTime movie, rather than an issue with Keynote. If the QuickTime movie plays fine in QuickTime Player, then the export from Keynote to QuickTime is fine and indeed the issue is in the conversion from QuickTime to Flash.
While this is not a forum for PowerPoint, check out the supported multimedia formats for PowerPoint - http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/powerpoint/HA012303251033.aspx. Flash is not listed. So while it might play, you might consult Microsoft.
I would recommend using one of the following products to convert your QuickTime file to a PowerPoint supported format, other than Flash:
Flip4Mac

Studio, Studio Pro, or Studio Pro HD. You can convert your QuickTime movies to WMV a fully supported format by PowerPoint. You can export to QuickTime and then use the Flip4Mac application to convert.

You can convert to various formats including AVI and MPG, both which PowerPoint supports. This is application can be found for both Mac and PC at.

Keynote file vanished into thin air

I have recently encountered this extremely frustrating situation where my keynote file that contained over 100 slides just disappeared into thin air. It is not located in the folder where it's supposed to be and does not appear under recently open folder. The only place that it shows is under apple > recent items but nothing happen when the file is clicked. I have found similar discussion thread regarding this issue and apparently less people are facing this problem with the new updates (I suppose). This is actually the first time I have this issue with Keynote (6.2.2), it has been an amazing software.
Keynote crashed, presentation file disappeared
I forced restart last night but I made sure the file was saved to the latest version and this morning I updated OSX to Maverick 10.9.5, so I'm not sure at which point the problem occurred nor which caused this to happen.
Have anyone found a way to recover the file that seems like it never exists? I have tried iSkysoft Data Recovery but the file is not in the folder I placed, plus disk utility did not work for me as well. For the time being, I will just have to start over and make sure to backup the file somewhere else but any kind of suggestions would be appreciated.

Didn't you backup the Bookmarks.plist ??
When not than I'm afraid that they are all gone as you said, but when you use Fire Fox to as second web browser you can export the Bookmarks back to Safari.

Recording Keynote to Quicktime or DVD: Failure had to use iMovie

after several failures at recordning where the resulting QT was way out of sync with the narration, and involving Geniuses and Creatives at the Atlanta Apple Store, I had to do it all in iMovie.
My presentation was 30 slides, 4 had video clips, 4 where Photobooth movies of me with backdrop were used. Whenever we did the record Keynote to QT to DVD the narration got our of sync in the QT movie. The narration was in perfect sync in the Keynote but got out of sync in QT. Apple Store experts called Cupertino, found there was some issue in the Keynote-QT transfer.
The workaround that they suggested and which worked was exporting slides into iMovie, the doing the narration there. It was a pain but did have the advantage of being able to edit narration a slide at a time, that is after I recorded and wanted to say something differently I just went back and re-recorded the slide.
Hint: export slides at max resolution

Keynote and QT updates solved the issue

Keynote 3 and Quicktime videos

I had keynote 2. Did some cool slides that i exported to final cut express as a qt movie. and put it in my timeline no problem. I upgraded to Keynote 3 now and can export a slide as a qt mov. but CANNOT import ANY QT movies into fce. Is there a compatiblity issues with keynote 3.? Very frustrating that I used to be able to import qt videos from keynote 2 but now cant in keynote 3. I always get a error message that one file was recognized and 1 was unknown.
Any suggestions ?

To edit in FCE? It needs to be either DV or or HDV size using AIC, at either the correct PAL or NTSC frame size and frame rate. Which are you working in? What bests suits your material and where you want to go with it from FCE.
