Issues opening a BI 7.0 query in to 3.x query designer?

Hi,
I opened a 7.0 based query in to 3.x query designer. I have couple of concerns that are listed below:
1. First of all is it ok to open 7.0 query in 3.x query designer? if no what are the Consequences?
2. A warning message displayed saying that the infoprovider is inactive any idea?
3. Can use the 3.x browser for 7.0 queries? Do you think 3.x browser have all the cozy navigation options like 7.0.
Thank you.
Aslam.

Hi,
Pls find some SAP notes:
1.Queries created or adapted with the SAP NetWeaver 2004s BEx Query Designer will still appear in the Open Dialog of the 3.x tool but they cannot be opened anymore.
2.For those scenarios where customers do not want to use the SAP NetWeaver 2004s BEx Query Designer, SAP ships a 3.x version of the BEx Query Designer in addition to the SAP NetWeaver 2004s BEx Query Designer.
3.New capabilities are only implemented in the SAP NetWeaver 2004s Query Designer.
4.Query Views that were created before will still run after a query has been changed with the new BEx Query Designer.
In general, query views do not need to be migrated.
5.The new BEx Analyzer gives access to InfoProviders, queries and query views but not to query views created with the new BEx Web Analyzer. On the other hand, query views created with the BEx Analyzer are available within the new BEx Web Analyzer.
6.Several Features of the new BEx Query Designer and BEx Web (e.g. in the area of exceptions and conditions) are not available in the new BEx Analyzer.
7.SAP does not recommend using NetWeaver 2004s queries and query views in the old 3.5 BEx Analyzer.
Hope this helps,
Regards

• Issue with calculating Top 20 % in Query Designer

Hai
I am working on Query designer 7.0 where I need to design a report which has 4 parts. The first 3 parts displays the Items with Top 20 Inventory Value with 3 respective divisions for 6 months . Now the 4th part is to display Top 20% of inventory Value.
So in this report I need to take the Total Inventory and calculate the Top20 % of the items. Hence in this report I need to refer to the top 20 value of 3 divisions. So I cant jus give one condition. So I tried the replacement path for Items with restriction to other queries and created the variables. But I cant use these varaibles in the structures of rows or columns. It gives an error that this variable cant be used in Structure.
Please do help me in refering the top 20 values of 3 divisions for 6 months and do a calculation to display the % in my 4th report.
I will assign points for any kind of help provided

If you can design all those in One query than you can have it...
It seems now your aim is just to take result for 3 queries and use it in 4th query...
But if you can figure out defining all 3 Divisions and restriction in Same Query and then put the DISPLAY OPTION = HIDE = do not display
and then use their result to display you will achieve what you want to....
for e.g.
Jan 07-----Feb 07 -

Division 1-- Item 1 -

• Using Query Designer both for 3.5 and 7.0

Hi all,
Is it possible to use different Query Designer versions (3.5 and 7.0) parallelly on the same machine ?
I have customer A using BW 3.5 and new customer B who will use 7.0.
I need to install Query Designer 7.0 and create reports for customer B.
But I still need to maintain customer A's queries and they were created via QDesigner 3.5.
Since I'll just have QDesigner 7.0 finally, if I use it to edit these 3.5 queries, they won't be editable again via 3.5 Query Designer. Which means they'll seems as corrupt for the customer, since they can't open them with their own query designer (3.5)
I need to reach all queries for all customer systems via their own version of Query Designer.
I wonder what's SAP solution to handle this situation.

Hello Rozz,
You can run both the query Designers on Bi7.0 System.
But, you can not access the same query using the both query designers.

• 0FISCPER Restriction in Query Designer

Hi All,
We are on BI 7.0 -- SP 17 .
Issue: When 0FISCPER is restricted in Query Designer it shows only one value (Period 00 0000 ) as opposed to values in Master data values. We went to SP 10 to 17 recently and since then this issue croped up. Any thoughts will be appreciated.
Tasks taken care:
1.Transfered global settings from Source system T009 table is consistent.
thanks
Mr.BI

Mr. BI,
Did you resolve the issue?
The problem exists with filter value selection based on " Values in Master data table" .
When the setting is changd in Info object mantenance to "Only values in Info provider" you can see values for Fiscal year/peiod.

• Query designer removing parts of where clause in VS 2012

I'm new to reporting services and I'm finding the query designer very frustrating. First off, I have read here and
am having a problem where the tool automatically wipes out parameters I have changed/added in the query designer. I read this 5 years ago, yet it seems that this problem still exists. I've tried changing the XML as suggested by some with mixed
results. Now I am having a problem when I changed the WHERE clause it keeps disappearing if I try and make any other change. Does anyone have advice on working with this tool? Should one keep a running copy of the query and keep pasting it
back in whenever a change is needed? Is this behavior not expected? Is anything different with SSRS 2014?
Thanks

Hi billywinter,
According to your description, parameters are wiping out automatically when you change something in query designer.
In Reporting Service, if we use where clause to add parameters in query designer, Define Query Parameters will pop-up when running the query. Please refer to screenshot below:
Regarding the issue, we couldn’t understand it clearly, and we would like to confirm something from you below:
1. Does parameters disappear in your query? Or when you preview the report, the selected box of parameters doesn’t display?
2. How about the query in query designer when parameters disappear?
3. What’s the modification have you performed for where clause? And what’s the result after this modification?
4. What the query type you are using, MDX query, stored procedure or another query type?
Please provide more information about the issue then we can understand the issue clearly. If possible, please provide some screenshots about the query in query designer, and the results of parameters before and after changing where clause.
In addition, we have found a feedback which descripts an issue about overwriting parameter in MDX query designer, and this issue is resolved by design. Is this issue same as yours? Please refer to this feedback:
MDX Query Designer Overwrites Parameter Queries.

• Error while trying to Open and Delete a BEx Query in Query Designer.

Hi Experts,
I have been facing this issue with BEx Query in Designer mode for a couple of days now in Development Environment in BI 7.0.
I would like to Delete an unwanted BEx Query because I need to give it's name to another BEx Query.
Whenever I try to Open this Query in BEx Query Designer to Delete, it gives out an error saying:
"An error occurred while communicating with the BI server.
As a result of this error, the system has been
disconnected from the BI server.
Detailed Description:
STOP: Program error is class SAPMSSY1 method : UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION
STOP: System eror in program CL_RSR and form GET_CHANMID-01 - (see long text)"
Details text is as below:
Diagnosis
This internal error is an intended termination resulting from a program state that is not permitted.
Procedure
Analyze the situation and inform SAP.
If the termination occurred when you executed a query or Web template, or during interaction in the planning modeler, and if you can reproduce this termination, record a trace (transaction RSTT).

Your time is much appreciated.
Thanks,

• BW 3.5, BEx Query designer issue with text of the characteristics

Hi All,
We are currently using BEx 3.5 Query Designer to design the queries. We have one of the ODS on which we are querying for.
We have 3 different types of Customer in this ODS. 0Customer, 0BBP_CUSTOMER and 0GN_CUSTOMER. The problem is when we open this ODS in Query designer we see their text name on the left hand side column where it shows data fields as the same text name Customer.
Now the our Power users have raised the issue that it is very confusing even when there are 3 different technical names for these characteristics.
2 Questions I have.
1) Why is something like this happening? is it some issue with the Patch or something. We will be migrating to new BI soon but in the mean time if I could resolve it that will be the best. Or does it even get resolved with new BI???
2) what is the way in which we can resolve it?
Thanks in advance and points will be given generously.

HI BI Consul!
Things like this happen, when it is called customer it could be different customers, 0customer is the standard R/3 customer and 0BBP_customer is objects from CRM and most likely 0GN_Customer might be customer from different system.
Sure, power users should be told which customer is customer and you could also change the discription of the object, to match the definition on the other system. You could also just create z object and replace the existing confusing object with something meaningful to users.
thanks.
Wond

Hi Experts,
I have checked with basis team , my issue is resolved, please find the solution .
1) Add corresponding system server names in host files of the offshore desktops.
2) After that basis has added offshore natted ips in sap gatewat parameter/alternate hostnames in system profile (rz10 tcode).
Then offshore are able to access query deisgner etc....

• Giving Error while opening BEx Query Designer.

Hi all,
A user is trying to open BEx Query Designer 7.0 and she is getting this error
" SAP BEx Query Designer standalone has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If you were middle of something, the information you are working on might be lost. "
She is not having issues while opening BEx Analyzer. She is having Office 2010. This doesn't seem to be compatibility issue with the Office. This BEx was not installed on her machine 2 weeks back and it was working fine until now.
As a first re-solution i told her to get it re-installed but still she is getting the same issue.
Thanx.

Hello,
There is no relation between Office VS Query Designer. Only with BEx Analyzer and MS Excel.
My suggestion is.
If you don't have version 7.20 of SAPGUI and Business Explorer, please download the installer.
After that, download the latest patch available and install:

• BEx Query Designer Opening Problem

Hi Guys,
I am working on BI 7.0. My system OS is Windows XP. When i try to open Query Designer it showing an as below.
Component 'BEx Query Designer': available version 154, version 229 required.
Before you can continue you have to run the front-end setup.
please let me know to resolve this issue.
Thanks
Murali

Hi Murali,
To make sure it works, you should make sure that:
When you installed the SAP GUI, you have checked the BI option (in addition to the BW option)
Install the latest front end patch (BI patch 7) from SAP Marketplace
I highly recommand to also install the BI SP07 patch for the server - it adds lots of stability for the front end.
It works pretty well for us, I am sure you will also eventually make it work
hope this solves ur problem....
Regards,
Bala...
