Issues Publishing Website via FTP

Hi guys...
Firstly I'd like to mention that I'm a real noob when it comes to this so please bear with me.
Basically, I created a website on iWeb for my radio show but when I publish it, it all seems fine but when i go to the actual URL it doesn't show the page, just the Web Company's page displaying the message:
"This Domain name is registered and parked with Crazy Domains". ..
I input the correct ftp details and username/password, and I even tried uploading it with FileZilla to no luck... Is there something I'm missing?
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks!
PS, I should mention that I own the domain name and have bought the web hosting as well via Crazy Domains, not Mobile Me

You need to forward your domain name to the IP address of your hosting account. As you have registered your domain name with your hosting service their tech support should help you with this or, at least, point you in the right direction.
When I start a new site, I register the domain name through my hosting company, Host Excellence, create a new root folder in my account and then hook them up with a couple of mouse clicks in the control panel.

  • IWeb not publishing website via FTP after adding music

    Hi all,
When I drag a piece of music on my iWeb website and try to publish via FTP, I get the "there was an error communicating with FTP server" message. Any ideas? Yes this is my own copyrighted music, not other people's music.

Try publishing to a local folder and launch the site in your browser by double clicking the index.html file.
This will tell you if the problem is in iWeb or publishing. See...

for some odd reason, i have been having problems updating my website using the ftp server.

To do this you need to publish to a local folder...

  • Trying to Publish iWeb via FTP to Go Daddy - Directory Error

    All,
I put together a pretty straight forward site in iWeb to advertise my customer guitars. Bought the Linux Hosting package from GoDaddy and tried to publish my site, but it continues to give me the error "Directory / Path" not found, and the Test Connection will never verify.
    My website is www.phatguitars.com
If I use CUTE FTP for Mac or FileZilla for Mac I can get right into the site, copy and move files, add directories, delete directories, etc, etc. - so FTP and my account login info is correct and tested. . . . . .
In the directory/path I have tried "/", I created a folder called "iweb" and tried "/iweb". I also tried "phatguitars.com/" - nothing is working. I have seen similiar error's all over the Web in my search for a solution, but I don't find any answers. I have the lateest version of iWeb ( checked my Update today just to be sure).
Help - I want to use iWeb and not some other package like Dreamweaver, etc. that will take more time to learn than I really want to spend on this.
Is it possiable to publish to a FOLDER, and then copy the folder via CUTE FTP? If so, what would I need to rename in that folder so it would load properly on GoDaddy
    Thanks for your help !

Publish to a local folder and then upload with your FTP app.
There are two ways to do this. You can upload the folder produced by iWeb and the external index.html file or do it this way...

Most techs don't seem to understand how iWeb creates sites so they end up not being much help.

  • No Hyperlinks when I upload website via ftp - Freestyle theme

    Hi
I've just got my first iMac (never going to get a PC again!) and changed my mates' band website that used to be on FrontPage. Its slimmed down for now but the basics are there, standard theme too but it is my first ever go at using a mac.. However, after I uploaded it the Welcome page has no Hyperlinks bar. I've checked everything I can think off, tested it by publishing to a folder etc but they don't appear in the internet (all works fine in iweb and in the folder).
One thing I did wonder about is that I've added extra pages and the space used for the hyperlink bar has dropped down in size to accommodate more links, would that affect it and if so, how can I fix it?
The site address is http://www.olly-alcock-band.co.uk - at the moment we have the welcome page but no way to get to the others! I suspect its to do with the size of the hyperlink bar and/or another frame being in front, I just can't figure out what/how. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It seems to be server side problem, from my end; none of your .js or .css files are found
    http://www.olly-alcock-band.co.uk/Welcome_files/Welcome.js
    http://www.olly-alcock-band.co.uk/Welcome_files/Welcome.css
The above two files are supporting files for your Welcome page, you need to sort out with your site host.

iCloud does NOT allow you to host your web sites. You can continue to use iWeb but, will need a 3rd party web host to upload your websites to. Depending on the version of iWeb you are using you have a couple of publishing options:
iWeb '09 (3.0.4) you can publish to an FTP Server or a local folder. ( With the built in FTP in iWeb you will end up with an address like "www.YourDomain.com/sitename/Home.html )
iWeb '08 you can publish your website to a local folder
I have been using IX Webhosting for several years with little to no problems "usually the problem was something I did" and they have been quick to solve any issue I have come across. The have plans that start at $3.95 a mo (USD) and their customer service is top notch.

  • How to upload site created with Dreamweaver via FTP to the iWEB server?

    Hi everyone,
I recently created a site on Dreamweaver and want to upload the site, via FTP to the iWEB server. My questions are the following:
    1. What is the FTP host address?
    2. How do I connect to my website via FTP?
Any help on the following questions will be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

Hello Lauretta and welcome to the forum.
You do not connect to iDisk via FTP. iDisk uses WebDAV. Also you do not need to manually upload the published files to iDisk as recommended buy others in this thread. Once the site and server is set up in DW you can publish and upload directly through DW.app Check out this post for more info.

  • Working with remote site via FTP - getting html only

I''m using DW to remotely work with the website via FTP. Is
it possible to make it NOT download all the assosiated files with
the html, that I'm edtiting? I switched on the prompts in getting
and putting stuff, but it still tries to download or upload
additional stuff. I need it to deal only with html.
    Thanks for any clues.

Works good? Make one silly mistake and you are toast.
Use a version control system instead. DW has a primitive one
    in
Checkin/Checkout, but it may be all you need.
I would NEVER do what you are doing in a multi-user

  • Publishing Website Updates via FTP

    Hi,
I've just published my first iWeb site to an external domain. It's a fairly big site and took a while to upload via FTP due to restrictions in their upload bandwidth (no files larger than 2 meg).
I've just added some additional photos to the photo album page and want to publish the update to the site. Which files do I need to replace on the FTP in order for this change to happen? I figured I'd just replace the 'photos' page folder and the 'photos.html' page file and that this would be sufficient. I can see the new photos in the 'photos' folder on the FTP but the page hasn't updated. What am I doing wrong? Surely I don't have to re-upload all of the iWeb files? Surely I only need to re-upload the files that were amended?
    Thanks
    Simon

  • Document Updates in a folder via FTP considered Publish Points?

    Hello,
We currently have a website that is deployed via IIS that we are planning to move to Azure Web Services.
This web contains a folder in the web site directory that contains files and documents for users to download. The site itself contains code that manages the files, and presents specific files to specific users.
Throughout the month, these files and document gets updated (additions as well as replacements); even though the website does not get updated.  Users use FTP to transfer files into current folder on the IIS server.
    The issue we are facing:
My concern is that updating documents in this folder via FTP does not create a publish point (and considered as dynamic changes) and if the site is re-deployed or scaled, the document changes are not picked up.
Can anybody confirm that: If we use FTP to update documents in this folder, Azure Web Services will recognize this as a Publish Point?
Thank you.  Your help is very much appreciated.
    PCR.

    Thanks for the reply.
I confirmed that we are using Azure Websites.
We had a previous website with a similar situation where the website contained a folder with documents (pdf, doc, and xls).  Files were added into this folder periodically.  Then one day we noticed that a number of files were missing.  When
we researched the problem, we were led to believe that something on the back end moved the website to a different server, and used a previous instance of the website.
Our web development manager thought he found an article that stated that we should not keep dynamic files within the website structure.
It would be great if this is no longer the case (or that we are mistaken in our interpretation).

I have published a website with iWeb on MobileMe quite successfully.  I purchased a second domain name, and republished the same site on GoDaddy before trying to point my MobileMe website name to the GoDaddy server. I was unable to upload several pictures to the second site, and posted my dilemma here.  It was suggested that I try using Cyberduck to publish via FTP, which I did.  I was still missing the same images. The error message says that there was a communications error with the FTP server and to try again later.  I have been able to upload several more new images to the second domain name just by using iWeb's publish feature.
I want to point my MobileMe website name, www.melissaveres.com to GoDaddy, which is now hosting www.mveres-engraver.com but it will only show the site as it is currently published, with several missing pictures.  I have tried to delete the photos in iWeb, bring them back in, and republish but with the same results.  I have contacted GoDaddy support, who can only tell me there is no file information for those open (missing) pictures, they have heard of this happening before, but had no information on how or if it was resolved.  Anyone know how to get these pictures up before I move from MobileMe?
    Melissa

Bring up the Activity window (Command+Option+A) for you site and check to see what files are missing and where they belong.  The URL for the missing files will tell  you what folder they should be in.
Then publish you website to a folder on your hard drive and open it locally with your browser.  Check to verify all images and present and the site works as you want.  Then you can upload the missing files or folder containing the missing files or the eintire site folder to your GoDaddy account with Cyberduck.

  • IWeb photo captions published via ftp?

I'm new to iWeb - are photo captions published via ftp now that MobileMe is defunct?  The info in Publish Site says no.  As I wish to use photos purchased and downloaded from a stock agency, they must be captioned with the photographer's name.  I can work around this by acknowledging the photographers in a list above the Album I've created rather than under each photo (if this proves to be acceptable to the stock agency), but this isn't ideal.  Thanks for any advise you can offer.

Captions added to the images inside a photos template are published no matter where you publish your website.
The number of caption lines is chosen in the photo Grid popup window...
