Issues re Tascam FW-1082 & FW-1884 control surface - integration with FCP

The joint Tascam/Apple release put out in 2005 touting seamless compatibility between these two products (see below) turns out to be a gross exageration. Basic functions are conceivably compatible, but some do not work and there is a paucity of documentation available. The many buttons and controls on the Tascam's control surfaces are rendered useless. The consumer consumer has been wronged and these are not cheap products. Countless similar posts on this site backs me up on this.
I have the Tascam fw-1884, which has the same setup as the 1082. Have any of you been able to assign quick keys on the tascam using the keyboard customization tool in FCP? I've followed the example on Tascam's support site, but it does not seem to work.
Also, looking for more documentation/tutorials/consultants who can help me master all the features of the Tascam with FCP 5.
Thanks,
David
TASCAM interfaces now compatible with Apple®'s
Final Cut® Pro 5 & Soundtrack Pro
MCP (Mackie Control Protocol) onboard Final Cut Pro 5 allows the use of external audio control surfaces to edit and manipulate audio
Montebello, CA—April 16, 2005—TASCAM's full line of FireWire audio control surfaces and interfaces are now compatible with Apple®'s Final Cut Pro 5 and Soundtrack Pro editing software with Apple's unveiling of the Final Cut® Studio production suite that includes the Final Cut Pro® 5 upgrade.
This major upgrade to the Apple's Emmy award-winning software means that Final Cut Pro 5 and Soundtrack Pro are now fully compatible with MCP (Mackie Control Protocol) devices, so you can use external audio control surfaces— including TASCAM's FW-1884 or FW-1082—to edit and manipulate audio more efficiently.
TASCAM's newest audio controller, the FW-1082, has nine motorized faders for adjusting audio levels during mix playback utilizing the revamped software. Editors can turn up a dialog line or reduce the music level during a voiceover section without clicking on breakpoints. Just grab a fader and go! The transport buttons can be used to start and stop playback in any editor that supports the Mackie Control or Mackie HUI. TASCAM's FW-1082 also has a MIDI fader mode that can be used in programs like Apple Motion 2 to adjust parameters in real-time during playback. And since it's an audio interface as well, producers can record voiceover and sound effects right in the edit suite with professional results.
The FW-1082 has four mic inputs, four line ins and S/PDIF digital in and out – all available at 96kHz. It features 10 inputs, including four balanced XLR mic inputs with phantom power. Eight channel strips each feature a 60mm touch-sensitive moving fader and select/solo/mute buttons, and a moving master fader.
For even more I/O and surface control, the FW-1884 offers 18-channels of inputs (eight analog and eight ADAT digital and two S/PDIF coaxial or optical), eight balanced XLR mic/line inputs with high-quality mic preamps and phantom power, plus nine 100mm motorized touch-sensitive faders.

So after writing this question I closed the laptop, leaving the Tascam on & connected. Returned 30 mins later to see if anyone had replied (where are you all??!!), opened the laptop & the Tascam suddenly springs to lift, faders move & Soft LCD app shows activity correctly.
So, all appears to be OK although I don't really know why...!!

  • Can you reassign Control Surface buttons in FCP 6?

    Hi everyone!
I have just purchased a Mackie MCU Pro, but it seems the majority of the controls are of little use in editing video (ie. for settings ins/outs/opacity) - so i wondered if I can reassign the buttons from within FCP? (as with other programs)
I bought this anticipating to use it primarily for physical video control (as well as the obvious audio) however, i have since discovered that the Euphonix MC Control can be setup to do just what i am asking - though want to try and save the mackie if possible!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Adam

    Hey Adam
I don't have personal experience of it, nor of the Mackie MCU for that matter (though I have used the Tascam FW1082 extensively) but from the specs online, various bits of info and reviews etc the Euphonix MC looks to provide far deeper integration and capacity for customizing controls than any of the other control surfaces supported by FCP
    http://images.apple.com/euro/finalcutstudio/solutions/docs/Euphonix.pdf
    http://peterwiggins.com/content/view/48/33/
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUg3kJvrLTE&fmt=18
But whether it actually lets you control the specific controls you're especially wanting to control and do so in a manner that would make your life better, well thats anyones guess ... though a quick email to Peter Wiggins or the Euphonix tech support team should help answer any specific queries you have.
Do please post back with your findings, help educate the rest of us!

  • Using Logic Pro 9 and Tascam DM-4800.  Can't get the Tascam to work as a control surface via firewire...   any help would be appreciated!  Thanks!

The DM-4800 and Logic see each other, the firewire shows as 'locked' on both.   Can pass audio back and fourth, no automation from the Tascam though.   I know its either a midi setting or control surface settings...  but I'm stumped.   Newbie at Logic here.   Any ideas what to check?  Thanks in advance!

    Plug in the usb lead.

  • Control Surfaces compatible with Premiere Pro CC

    Hello!
I am starting a new gig and I am building out a edit bay for the project.  I have only build a bay with FCP7 so I am a little hesitiant on things like peripherals.  Since Control Surfaces are new to support in Premiere please let me know what kind of experience you've all had in working with them.  I have had sucess with the Behringer BCF2000 on FCP but I've had my eye on the PreSonus FaderPort.
Can anyone lend any input or experience?
    Thanks!

    Hi Dan,
Picked up a FaderPort last Wednesday and I'm gonna return it on Monday.
Here's the story. First of all, if just going by the specs, Premiere is not supported by FaderPort.
FaderPort uses either the Mackie HUI or the Mackie Control protocol but it's defaulted to HUI so you have to switch it over yourself, a procedure that is not explained explicitly in the manual.
Once you do that the key mapping is "all weird" and I could not make any sense of it, so after two days of fighting it, I gave up and will return the thing (thank god for the 30-day free return policy in Sweden).
In essence, I would not go for the FaderPort with Premiere.
Honestly speaking, after some research, I am yet to find a control surface that explicitly states full compatibility with Premiere.
I was over on the Avid website and was looking at the Avid Artist Mix compatibility specs, Premiere is not even on the list. Audition is, but there is no functionality listing for it, unlike all the other supported DAWs.
I don't really know why no control surface I've seen explicitly supports Premiere, might be because Premiere only recently got the control surface functionality, but I think that both the surface makers and Adobe need to shape up and iron this out, because I'm not gonna mix a 90 minute dance show video using the mouse for a fader!
    Cheers, J

  • Control surface problem with tracks assigned to Rewire channels

I'm using Logic 9 and Reason 4. My control surface is an M-Audio ProjectMix using Mackie emulation.
I have a simple project in Reason with 2 instruments, and a created a simple Logic project. I then created 2 external midi tracks, and then used the library tab to assign them to the Reason devices.
My problem is that, unless I set the control surface to Track, it always shows the rewire objects (and they don't have any controllable properties). This is annoying as they are taking up space on the control surface, and since they are not visible in the mixer in Arrage mode (unless I go to View>Show Other Tracks) I would not expect them to be visible on the control surface. And most annoyingly, whichever rewire object in the mixer is selected, all the rewire channels on the control surface will display that object's name (surely that's not supposed to happen).
Interestingly, if I create either 2 instruments or a multi in the environment, and wire them into the Rewire objects, then set the tracks to point to the instruments, the problem disappears.
This does not sound like correct behaviour to me; can anybody confirm that this is what you would expect?
    Thanks,
    Adam.
PS. I would guess that it's because Logic treats them, internally, as having the same channel, which is why they can't be individually controlled.

Let's try "disable handshake" in the nucleus remote. You have to restart the nucleus for the change to take effect.
    It worked for me!

  • BMC Control M integration with Solution Manager

    Hi
    I have some question:
Is it possible to integrate BMC Control M with Solution manager?
Is SAP have plugin or we need to develop?
If we integrate then what is the benefit?
    Please guide me.
    Thanks
    Dee

As Matues has provided that BCM Control-M is a supported job scheduling tool
Further to answer your question SAP Note  499040  explains that XBP interface is required for external job scheduling tools
You will find several documents that describe the XBP interface in detail at
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/nw-scheduling.
So you will need to use this interface to use the external job scheduling tool

  • Does Protools Command 8 control surface work with Logic?

I thought this would be easier.

    Not true!
Command8 is optimised for ProTools, but can be used with other audio apps,
a short visit to the Digidesign website:
"Command|8 also includes an integrated, fully editable MIDI interface and features a stand-alone MIDI controller mode, enabling you to use it with your favorite third-party MIDI applications and devices — any that accept MIDI control change messages for level, panning, solo, mute, MIDI Machine Control, and other mappable parameters."

  • Issue with Tascam FW-1082 Control Surface

Anyone having issues with this connected to a mac Pro? I have one and upon turning on the unit, crashes the entire computer. If I boot with the unit connected, it'll sometimes keep OSX from doing a full boot, or if it does boot, FCP will hang on startup.
Spoke with tech support. Was only able to get it to work after disabling all network protocols, strange, but it did work. There's gotta be a better way to get this to work. Works fine on an i-mac.

Alas, the Tascam FW-1082 is never going to work with Snow Leopard because Tascam/Teac have discontinued support for it. I'd already been disappointed at reading the addendum on this page:
    http://www.tascam.com/article;34,2034,3800.html
And I got the following mail reply to my inquiry to Tascam (downgrading to Leopard I would do, but I will not downgrade my Mac Pro from 12GB RAM to 4GB!):
    Dear Mrs Noort,
Due to a general incompatibility with Apple's new 64-bit Audio Core engine, which cannot be resolved through an updated driver, we have decided to stop further driver development for the FW-1082.
If Final Cut Studio 3 runs on Leopard (OS 10.5..), there should be no problems in conjunction with this program.
The driver v.1.60 will work under Leopard up to a max. system RAM of 4 GB.

  • Can i control surface logic 9 with digi 002 mixer? on snow leopard 10.6.8

Hi I'm trying to connect my digi002 mixer to use it as a control surface with logic 9, is there anyway of doing this?
I have an RME Hammerfall DSP Multiface II, that I'm using as my main sound card, but would like to light it with the 002 and use the 002 converters as well, so that in total i get 16 channels I/O + if I could get control surface of logic with the 002 would be great.....
I heard about the Multi-Client CoreAudio Driver, but not 100% sure if and how it works to control surface logic with 002.
    Anyone???
    Help please....
    Thx...

I assume you have working installer discs? If so here's a suggestion:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc.  Insert the disc into the
optical drive and restart the computer.  After the chime press and hold down the
"C" key.  Release the key when you see a small spinning gear appear below the
             dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, set the format type to Mac
OS Extended (Journaled, if supported), then click on the Partition button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.

  • Compatible control surface Premiere Pro CC 2014

    Hi
I am thinking of getting a control surface for audio mixing in Premiere Pro CC 2014. I note the support of eucon and Mackie. However Adobe's Support just advised me than Avids Artist Mix is not compatible. I found this odd as it is a eucon device but obviously not running the risk now.
So hence my question: are you using a control surface successfully with PP cc and if so which one?
    Thanks!

  • Unable to Change the TouchOSC Control Surface Input Port

    Hello
I'm trying to use the TouchOsc control surface driver with Lemur to communicate with Logic via OSC. I can get Lemur to send OSC to Logic but not the other way around. Lemur is hardcoded to accept input on port 8000. TouchOSC uses port 9000. Is there a way I can change the output port in Logic (TouchOSC control surface)? It's currently grayed out.
    Many thanks
    Jeremy

i just had to open TouchOSC and do it there. anyone happen to know (iPad) Lemur's in port number? i thought it was 8000 but that's not working.
    thanks

  • How do I make a Tascam FW-1082 "work" with Logic Pro?

I just purchased logic pro and a tascam FW-1082. im trying to get them to work together, but i dont really know where to start. I ran the tascam driver, and did some configuring in logic, but it doesnt seem like they are working together seamlessly. my previous workflow involved a digi 002 with pro tools, and id like to configure logic and the tascam and logic to work like that. so, what do i do?
    1.5 G4 12" powerbook/ single 1.8 g5 powermac   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   logic Pro, tascam FW-1082

It emulates a Mackie Control which Logic supports. Open the Control Surfaces setup/install window, make sure MIDI ins and outs are both connected, turn on the unit and it should appear a in couple of seconds. If it doesn't, manually install it. It's reasonably clear and the 1082 is even listed in the install window. You shouldn't have much trouble.

  • Tascam FW-1082 & Logic Pro X

    Hello
In technical specifications Apple wrote about support the tascam. How can this? If tascam doesn't work on OS X 10.7 and Logic Pro X works in OS X 10.8.4 or later and don't have a 32 bit support.
In the Tascam support drivers only to Mac Os 10.6.8 32 bit

It emulates a Mackie Control which Logic supports. Open the Control Surfaces setup/install window, make sure MIDI ins and outs are both connected, turn on the unit and it should appear a in couple of seconds. If it doesn't, manually install it. • Tascam FW-1082 Support

Is the Tascam FW-1082 control surface supported in PrP? FCP does and its much more effective using a control surface then a mouse when automating mixes.

Prepare to be shocked. Reference second post from Adobe.

Explain your profoundly negative perception of Audition. As someone who has made broadcast mixes over the last 30 years with Avid MC, Avid DS and FCP, my tutorial foray into Audition 5.5s capabilities reveal it seems quite adequate if not exemplary in some areas.
