Issues recording audio during a screen capture demo

I'm working on a computer with a Windows 7 OS and Captivate 5. I have "stereo mix" enabled as default recording device.(Realtek high definition audio). My task at hand involves demonstrating a video captioning tool, so I need to be recording the video's audio as I step through the process of creating the captions in a web based environment. I must admit that what I am trying to accomplish works easily with other screen capture tools (even free tools) but I would really like to be able use Captivate 5 for this project and others upcoming that require the same functionality. As a last resort, I've also tried adjusting the audio settings within the project (selecting the "narration" option as shown) but I'm not having any luck getting the results I need. I'm really hoping that it's something simple I'm just missing, and that  forum experts can nudge me in the right direction... Thanks very much for your input.

OK, I understand now.
But with Captivate, the bad news is that just playing a video file on the screen, and capturing what you see with Captivate will not result in the audio from the video file being captured at the same time.
Captivate records audio via the microphone channel in your computer.  What you can do as a possible workaround is turn on your PC audio and place a USB microphone near your speaker to pick up the audio from the video.
Another trick I have sometimes used is to purchase a cable with two male 1/4 inch jacks on each end, then plug one end into the microphone port and the other end into the headphones port on your computer.  Be careful to turn the sound down low on your volume control and do some tests to find the appropriate setting where it will record the sound at a good audible volume.
Hope this helps.

  • No Audio during Log and Capture

Hello, I have FCP 6.0 and am unable to hear my audio during log and capture. I have this problem on all 5 G5 Macs that I have, and have tried different editing docks and cables. I have used FCP for more than 5 years and have never had this problem. iMovie has audio during capture, so I am convinced that there is a pre-set in FCP that I don't have checked properly, but I've been over them many times and still have no answer. I searched past forums and didn't really find anything helpful to me.
My pre-sets are set to DV NTSC 48kHz and the playback pre-sets are set to default. I can hear audio of my clips after I log and capture, but I still need to hear audio during importing. I'm more confused than anything. If anybody has had this problem before or any suggestions for me, I'm all ears.
    Thanks.
    John

    ... as Bogie says.
However... this is a non-feature that dates back to slower CPU days... yet, still with all the different formats and such I (ME!!) I believe it's still good practice to leave it off.
Devoting as much CPU work to the capture process lessens the chance for something to go wrong. You can easily monitor the audio directly out of the deck as needed.
Sure -- octo cores need 30 apps open just to get your money's worth and I'm sure you won't have any issues using an 8th of one to send audio thru itself while the other 7 and 7/8ths are used for capture... but who wants to risk it?
Not me... I'm to old to change my ways.
Blast you FCP v1.2.5 on a beige G3 with 7gig and 15gig hard drive -- you taught me well.

  • How to record video or use screen capture WHILE capturing audio from Logic??

    Hi,
I want to record my self playing guitar and singing using my mac book pro built in camera. I want the audio to come from Logic so I can add whatever effects I want to the vocals. When I say audio from Logic I don't mean recording in Logic and adding it in post. I want it to be on the fly.
What I used to do was use the screen capturing program Snapz Pro. I would screen capture a box around photobooth for the video, and then record while having Logic's audio in the background. It screen captures my entire computers audio. So for example if I get an aim message the bleep would show up in the recording. Or if I raise the volume or lower it the little click sound fx would be in it as well.
Capturing the audio this way let me get Logic's audio effects in my video on the fly. It worked out great....until now! :/
I just got the audio interface "Duet 2". And am using a microphone instead of my mbp's built in one. When ever I tried to record and capture my systems audio - my entire computer would crash. Snapz Pro won't work with the system audio with the interface. It works fine without it though.
I then tried to use Quicktime's new movie recording feature. I see it only gives an option for microphone and now system audio. So I got soundflower to re route the audio but that doesn't help either. This is because when you capture this way you can't hear anything while your capturing. So if I were to record a video and wanted Logics audio in it, I would have to set the output to Soundflower first. So when I record I cant hear myself which defeats the purpose.
So my final question is, how can I record video while having Logic's audio? I don't need to record with the mic, because in Logic the mic audio is going thru the system audio with everything else.
I would like to use a process more similiar to Quicktimes straight movie recording instead of doing an odd way like I used to screen capturing a box around the photobooth screen.
    Thanks

  • Recording audio with a screen recording.

Just found out (Ya, I know, "Just found out!") that I can record something on my desk top.
This is great as I'm preparing a report and looking forward to making a "movie" to present to a group.
    So, what's my question. ...
In trying to record the audio from a company site [ No (c) infringement, honest. ] I get a nasty audio feed back that prevents audio use.
    Ergo ... help.
    Thanks all,
    CM

    Thanks to Limnos and Zyiab.
    Limnos:
It is when using the Quicktime appl (on my dock bar).
    Zyriab:
I have gone through the selecting of screen for recording and selecting the audio-in (tried both options).
With one (internal mic I think) I get the heavy "feed-back" both during recording and playback, and with the other I get ... uh, nothing.
Frustrating to find such a neat function but not able to get the sound going.
    Thanks again,

  • Help editing 1024x768 screen capture demos

I am producing software demo screencasts. I have seen excellent examples of this type of content at 800x600 and less than 200 kbps with audio, and I want to do something similar.
I import 1024x768 wmv (from WME) to a project with settings:
    Desktop
    23.976
    1024x768
In the source monitor, the stopped video has good image quality. When played, it appears pixelated/distorted (at 100%). When exported at 1024x768 it is also distorted, even at ~500 kbps. Unreadable.
There are so many dials to turn in the capture, import and export settings I am at a loss as to where to focus first.
Looking for some guidance on the capture, editing, and exporting of web-delivered software demos with audio.

I can't really think of much in the way of settings you can play with in
capture or import that will have much if any affect on your media. Your
bringing WMV files, which is already a compressed delivery format onto
your Premiere timeline. You say they appear acceptable in your source
window, so it has to be during the export process your getting the problem.
I don't normally use WMV files in my projects, but I do know that it is
not unusual to not get the quality you want when rendering a new file as
you get some or in your case alot, of generational loss.
Harms comment about the 23.976, in his perfect imitation of House, is
valid though. Still, take a short part of the project, and experiment
with different settings. 15, 24 fps, smaller aspect ratios, and compare
them. Its really the only way to get any understanding of the export
process. Its more an art than a science.

  • QuickTime Screen Recording: Audio Omitted Until Screen Activity Starts

I'm using QuickTime Player 10.1 on a 2011 MacBook Air 13" running Lion. I'm trying to make screen recordings with audio. This is working apart from the fact that the start of the recording is delayed until there is some screen activity. This is very inconvenient.
While this strikes me as probably a bug, I guess it's worth asking if anyone has any ideas for how to correct this behaviour?
    Thanks,
    Peter

I would think soundflower could do this as screenium uses it to do just what you are saying. But I have not been able to do it natively on QT X

  • IE Browser Issue with Spry Menu Bar {screen-capture attached}

Hi there, my horizontal spry menu bar is messing up when viwed in Internet Eplorer, HTML shows no errors, after extensive testing still cant find a solution.  As you will be aware IE is a popular browser so its imperative i resolve the issue.  The site is http://www.theboxinghistorian.com/
    View in Chrome and Firefox
    View in Internet explorer (IE)
    Here is the HTML code
Hope this is enough information for a solution.
    Thank you for your time
    Mark

I've never used Spry, so take this with a huge grain of salt.. looking at your html, I am kinda wondering how come the 2nd level of the nested list items making up your submenu items arent assigned a different css style - and therefore is your css file setup to handle this change in orientation properly..
You got a class=MenuBarSubItem" on your Championship History, but theres nothing in your html (other than the nested ul within #Menubar1) to indicate that Heavyweight, Cruiserweight, etc. are 2nd Level MenuItems which should be using a different css style.. therefore it would be up to your CSS to handle this change in how these 2nd level sub menu items gets displayed.. looks like this isn't happening for MSIE, as MSIE keeps floating your 2nd level/submenu items horizontally instead of stringing them up vertically.. You may be missing a style rule in your css, but how come FF gets it right?
If I were to recreate this menu myself, I would assign a new css class to make sure my submenu items dont end up floated next to each other.. But then again, i have no clue about Spry, so I might just be rambling nonsense here...

  • HP Pavilion 11 x360 recorded audio gets really loud when silent, like auto adjustment

When I'm talking to friends on Skype, recording a video, or simply recording audio, during silent portions (where I'm not talking) my audio driver software (beats audio) tries to normalize the microphone levels, so it ends up making the background noise unbearably loud.
I've recorded a test file of what it sounds like, and can provide that upon request.
I've searched though beats settings and tried recording with everything on, and everything off. There's not an option for audio levels normalizing, so I cannot fix this on my own.

    Hellllllooooooooooo everyone,
Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!
I have a few suggestions that may be able to resolve your sound recording issue. Here we go:
    1. Go into Device Manager, then "Sound, video and game controllers".
    2. Right click on the Audio driver, and select "uninstall".
    3. Restart the computer. This will force a new audio driver to be written.
If that doesn't help, then I can continue to provide suggestions. I just need the following information:
    1. The computer's model number. If you require assistance locating this information, please reference this website: Guide to finding your notebook product number
    2. The computer's operating system. If you require assistance locating this information, please reference this website to determine your Windows operating system.
    3. Does this occur on certain programs, or all programs?
    4. Have you installed any new software or drivers on this computer, before the issue appeared?

  • How to turn off audio during transfer

Is there a way where I can turn off the audio during a Log Capture/Transfer? I still want the audio to be captured but just not played on the speakers. I'd like to listen to other sources of audio while the video is transferring in the background at the same time. This way, I don't have two different audio sources playing out to my headset.

Do bear in mind that doing both operations at once could jeopardize the integrity of your capture (you could end up with dropped frames), that said, in your Log and Capture window under the Clip Setting tab you should see a "Preview" checkbox in the Audio section. Untick that box.

I've tried 2 different screen capture devices, and in both cases, audio stops recording after 20 or 30 seconds, but video is fine.  The audio disappears with both programs.  Does anyone know what is happening with my audio capture?

Update, I took the webcam home over the weekend and tried on my home network and the outcome was the same video fine - audio delayed, is this a Skype for desktop issue?

Captivate 5.5 Question: We seem to be having an issue with the screen capture piece not recording "everything".
We're running 5.5 as an administrator on Windows 7 and my co-worker is trying to capture a webinar (GoToMeeting) with Captivate and it is not recording anything in the GTM window, except the last slide. Anyone have this problem or know a fix? Not much is mentioned in the Adobe forums.

Captivate simply doesn't 'hear' some screen events on certain applications and you just need to resort to doing manual captures at these points.
I usually set up my manual capture button to be F2 so that I can hit it with my left hand while my right hand is on the mouse navigating through the task.

  • Problem recording sound during screen capture

    Hi
I'm having a problem when recording screen captures in Windows XP SP3 in Boot Camp.
There is almost no sound. There is a very low sound level being picked up from the microphone.
The screen capture software I'm using is Capture Solution by SProsoft. I get the same result when using Windows Media Encoder, so I don't think it is a problem with the capturing program.
There is no problem with Windows XP making the sounds as I use it. It is just that I cannot record those sounds.
Thank you for any assistance you can give.

Hi ya I solved it..... I brought it back to the shop I got my phone in and they gave me a brand new one.
I had it for 11 months when I returned it  and it was still covered by warranty hope this helps :)

  • Download Helper, even with paid converter upgrade, gives "Invalid Capture File" errors and will not record audio, with "File Creation Error - Unable to rename/copy audio file" Error.

Download Helper Screen Capture worked to capture video if the default "no audio" option is active. But, no audio. The "speakers" or "microphone" audio options are confusing....the audio to be captured is from the video, so what do you choose? With either "speakers" or "microphone" selected, the captured file has poor audio and no video. Re-capture efforts (speakers) get "Invalid capture file error" and "File Creation error- Unable to rename/copy audio file"
The paid upgrade of "Converter" doesn't work.
Instructive documentation - not very good.
Suggestions - Need time delay between initiation of "Record" and starting the video to be recorded.
Could use timer tracking of the record process.
Are there operating system limitations? (Have Windows XP Pro)

That is an issue for the developer of that Download Helper.
