Issues related to legacy gdiplus.dll file(s)

Microsoft,
I am using an OVAL based vulnerability scanner which checks certain files on my windows 2003 server.
It's detecting vulnerabilities related to legacy gdiplus.dll files stored in the c:\windows\winsxs folder
I have had already applied the windows updates which mitigates those vulnerabilities.
For example, I have already applied the patch for MS11-029, Security Update for Windows Server 2003 (KB2412687). However, this vulnerability keeps being detected.
I went to the c:\windows\winsxs folder, and saw that the older version of the gdiplus.dll file still exists.
I have tried Disk Cleanup, and clean up of window components, but the older file persist.
From other microsoft postings, it is not recommended that I go into the winsxs folder and start deleting files.
Please advise next course of action.

I checked my c:\windows\system32 folder, and according to the file search, there weren't any files named "gdiplus.dll"- this search was completed using the options:
- search system folders
- search hidden files and folders
- search subfolders
Windows file search only found the gdiplus.dll files under c:\windows\winsxs
Using the windows 2003 support tools, I used this command to obtain the requested info:
filever c:\windows\winsxs\gdiplus.dll /s /a /d
Results are as follows:

  • Crystal Decisions 2.0 Gdiplus.dll file update

In reference to Microsoft IAVA 2004-A-0015 JPEG Processing GDI+ Buffer Overlow.  I am a network security engineer that is responsible for IAVA compliance over large enterprises.  My team is having fits with a gdiplus.dll that points to the following path for 200 machines on our network:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Crystal Decisions\2.0\Bin\gdiplus.dll
My question is, does anyone know if SAP released an update file that doesn't depict as being vulnerable based on the latest Microsoft bulletin that was re-released in concerns to updates in GDI vulnerabilties?
Another concern we had, was renaming this .dll file, is it always registered or just present within the Crystal Decisions path, to where it could cause problems with the software on the asset?
    V/R,
    Jay

It being a Microsoft DLL, I am not sure why SAP / Business Objects would be releasing an updated file? I'd suggest contacting Microsoft and ask them for details on this dll.
From the directory path, it looks like this pertains to CR 9 (out of support since April of 07). See this for more info:
Business Objects Product Lifecycles [original link is broken]
Now, there are updates available for CR 9, but I don't think I have enough info here to determine if this will help.

  • Bad_Image gdiplus.dll after kb2834886

I have a Windows 7 - 64 bit notebook with an easily reproducible error on KB2834886.  Before it is installed, it has all other patches and driver updates applied.  In this state, it will go through a sfc /scannow without error.  It
will also do a Update Readiness Tool with no error.  Applying the update will produce an error on boot on a plain black screen, in any mode, normal, safe mode, safe mode w/net, safe mode w/command line that states that logonUI.exe is reporting a
bad image of a winsxs copy of gdiplus.dll.  It will not continue to a logon screen.  If you attempt to CTRL-ALT-DEL or other keyboard commands, it will repeat the error, but not continue to logon screen.  System Restore from Windows RE will get
user back to logon.  Malware scans produce nothing, did manual repair of bcd, no change.  I hid the update, so the user would not accidentally post, but that does not seem like a solution.

    Hi,
Can you perform  SFC command  during Windows Recovery environment? Since I notice you see a report about the gdiplus.dll file.

  • I have uninstalled and reinstalled the new iTunes but it still will not work.  I keep getting the error mesage relating to MSVCR80.dll, the installation error 7 (windows error 126). I have tried moving and removing the dll files including the QTMovie dll

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes 15 times regarding the latest release and still get the MSVCR80.dll and Error 7 (Windows error 126) messages.
I have tried moving the dll filesincluding the QTMovie dll file to now avail.  Can anyone please help, as I am sure you all, like me, have thousnads of dollars and songs invested in this system and need a fix fast.  Can anyone please help???

Dear avid iTunes users - I have cracked it!!!
The response from Apple/iTunes was extremely poor and did not solve the problem.
I have a look in msconfig and observed which applications/services were running - one of which was the 'Apple Application Support'
So ... I had a look at what was in this folder and found the APS Daemon.exe file causing all the trouble.
So ... I simply deleted the Apple folder found in C:\program files\common files\.
I did a restart and did not get the MSCVCR80.dll or Error 7 (windows 126) error messages.
I reinstalled the current version of iTunes (for the 16th time!)
    Hey presto!!!
    IT WORKED :-O Woooohooo!!!
So ... to all those smarty-pants boffin-brianiacs out there (apple/iTunes): this is how you do it!!!!!!!!!!
YOU DO NOT NEED TO UNINSTALL ALL THE APPLE/QUICKTIME OR RELATED PROGRAMS - JUST DELETE THE APPLE FOLDER IN THE C:\PROGRAM FILES DIRECTORY.
    Nuff said.

  • HT1925 I am having an issue with loading Itunes. I receive a missing dll file notice. Then another error message. I have reinstalled Windows & still get the error. I did not get the error until I recently did an ITunes update.

I am having an issue with ITunes after a recent ITunes update. I can not open ITunes, I get a message missing MSVCR80.dll file, Then an error 7 message. I have redone the OS for Windows 7 and restarted the computer. I keep getting the errors.

    Do the following:
Uninstall from Windows the following five programs: iTunes, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour and Apple Application Support. You do this from an applet in Control Panel called Programs & Features (in Windows 8, 7, or Vista) or Add or Remove Programs (in Windows XP).
Download the latest version of iTunes from Apple and note the location you're saving it to so you can find it once it's done.
Run the iTunes installation as an administrator, just Right click iTunes installer and Run as Administrator.

  • Lvanlys.dll file issues

The lvanlys.dll is listed in my project files in three separate entries in three separate folders, one of which was not found.  Why is this dll not pulled from the labVIEW vi library and how can I reconcile all of these separate files?  I am using labVIEW 2010

I apologize, I have been out of the office for the past two weeks and have been unable to work on this. I have just a few clarifying questions. You are unable to fully build the executable correct? Because LabVIEW keeps trying to locate the lvanlys.dll file? Or can you build the executable, but the lvanyls.dll file is missing?
From what I've looked into, this lvanlys.dll file has caused some issues before. Sometimes there is an issue with LabVIEW trying to link to a previous version of the dll file. Here are a few links here for you to look through that may help.

    Hi remi,
are you referring to this driver download? It's ~12 years old…
This package is a wrapper for that "hp816_32.dll" it is missing. I guess this DLL is installed with the instrument drivers that came with your old HP device.
You should ask HP/Agilent/Keysight for some new drivers or for that old DLL…

  • Jabber 9.7 gdiplus.dll is missing

    Hello,
We are running jabber 9.7 for windows and we have a small problem that is difficult to reproduce consistently. Some of our users, when they start up their computers, sometimes they receive a message "GDIPLUS.dll is missing" and the Jabber application fails to start. This does not happen every time they boot their computer, but it is annoying.
If they try afterwards to start Jabber manually, the application starts correctly. I'm thinking that the issue is related to the timing of application/system startup but not sure.
The PCs are running windows 7
Nothing is written in the Jabber log file, probably the error occurs too early
    Any clues?
    Thanks,
    John

  • I have windows 8, 64 bit.  I am trying to install ITunes 64 bit installer, but keep getting an error message that says a .DLL file is missing.  How can I fix this?

After installing, whenever i try to open the application, it keeps popping up that some or the other .dll file is missing.
When I install that particular .dll file and then again try to re open, it says that someother file is missing. It keeps
    coming all the time.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

After an unsuccessful Itunes update I started getting a "msvcr80.dll file is missing from your computer" message.  I downloaded and installed the Microsoft Visual C++ file and it said the reinstallation was successful but I still get the same error message and Itunes won"t install or run.  Any suggestions?  Thanks

    Hey colorado65,
Follow the steps in this link to resolve the issue:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
When you uninstall, the items you uninstall and the order in which you do so are particularly important:
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
Let us know if following that article and uninstalling those components in that order helped the situation.

iTunes no longer relies on QuickTime, though you may have some older video formats that need it. It should not be required to access the iTunes Store.

  • Calling dll file to control a third party board from PC Control.

    Hi there,
I have this hawkeye stepper motor control board from PC control company.
It comes with a software written by the company  which is in DLL format. I would like to call the DLL file in labview and be able to do further programming on it using labview platform to control the motor board.
The reason that I need to call this DLL file is because labView does not recognise the control board when connected to it.
I would really be grateful if anyone who has purchased the same motor control board from PC control company before and successfully using labview to control it could share the code and driver with me.
    Many thanks.

  • WebUtil DLL files location with OAS v10.1.2.3 with Sun Java 1.5

Question about the future Client (under MS Vista) which works with OAS.
With MS Vista on the client, the certified versions are:-
-Clientside: Sun Java 1.5_10 and above
-OAS: v10.1.2.3 (apparently to be released in March 2008)
    See table and notes at
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/htdocs/10gr2/clientsod_forms10gr2.html
Our application uses Oracle Web Util 1.0.6.
When this first starts up the server attempts to copy three DLLs (jacob.dll JNIsharedstubs.dll d2kwut60.dll ) to a particular directory (eg c:\program files\oracle\J-Initiator 1.3.1.18\bin ).
This has been a problem for my company's infrastructure since that directory is not writeable for most end-users. We got round the problem by creating a script run just once by the end-user which placed the DLL files in position before application is first run. The application still tries so copy the files, and fails - but this does not matter.
In the MS Vista client envt we will have the Sun Java 1.5 client instead of the J-Initiator.
Is it clear into which directory those three DLL files will be placed with this new client-side setup?
    Thanks.

    Hello Jacob,
Oracle itself can fix the WebUtil issue with downloading DLLs to an appropriate location. However, there's more to running a Forms application on Vista - some of which Sun needs to find a solution for:
If Vista's User Account Control (UAC) feature is activated - which it is by default and which provides additional security compared to XP - Internet Explorer runs in protected mode, i.e. the iexplore.exe process is started with a LOW integrity level. In Vista every securable operating system "object" is assigned an integrity level - process, files, directories etc. each have an integrity level which can have the values low, normal / user, high / administrator or system. Every process started by a normal user will be assigned normal / user integrity level on process creation and thus is able to access all the files to which the user has access rights. The exception to the rule is Internet Explorer which is started with a low integrity level so if any malware / Javascript / IE extension takes control over Internet Explorer it cannot access any files or directories outside of its low integrity level "jail" because process with a lower integrity level aren't allowed to access any objects which have a higher integrity level. This means any program - including the Java plugin and any applet whether signed or not - which runs inside the iexplore.exe process cannot communicate with any process the user started (think about WebUtil's OLE2 to communicate with Office applications) and it cannot download any files to a user-specified directory (think of WebUtil's download features or even client_textio). Furthermore any processes you start e.g. through WebUtil's client_host command will inherit IE's low process integrity level and thus will not be able to do anything meaningful either. The same goes for your own DLLs which run within iexplore.exe.
Java 1.6 Update N will change the Java plugin architecture so that the Java runtime will execute in its own process with a normal / user integrity level and communicate with Internet Explorer via IPC instead of running within the internet explorer process. If you need more information look at the early access release of Update N:

I think it would help if you also opened an SR so Oracle support knows there are more customers waiting for a solution.
