Issues relinking files in FCP X -original audio & video files not accepted

I have recently updated my FCP x to version 10.0.9. Most of my projects have updated fine and until I loaded them on another mac (I have the actual files on an external hard drive) today, I was able to work with them as before.
Something strange happened today - when I loaded one of my projects, it said that the audio tracks I had previously detatched in the timeline could not be found (although the video files were in the timeline as before, showing the audio track beneath). But whilst they were marked red, I could still play back the project and hear the audio playing.
I decided to re-link the project files, except for the first 5 clips which hadn't been affected by the 'loss' of audio. After relinking the files, the audio worked, but the video showed up all black. It turns out that Final Cut had moved all my 'faulty' video files into the trash, and just kept the audio from these files (though I don't know where as there were no audio files in the folder the video files had been moved from.
I decided to re-start my computer and Final Cut, and to re-link the files again. At this point Final Cut came up with an error message, saying that the files could not be re-linked as they contained audio, whereas the original files didn't (this is of course incorrect as these are exactly the same original video&audio files I filmed and imported weeks ago.
Please help me, I am very worried about losing my projects I have spent weeks on editing as I use Final Cut professionally.
Many thanks in advance.

I have run into this kind of thing  before and I can only attribute it to a data base error on FCPx part. In my case the only solution I have found was to re-import the files again and then drag the newly imported file to the timeline. You may choose to Replace or you may delete the original section in the timeline and just place an appropriate length section in. You'll have to reestablish transitions and such.  There may be some other methods to deal with this kind of bug in FCPx but if there are I haven't found it. I have only encountered this kind of thing once or twice but I have found no way to ever get those files connected again and for FCPx to "see" things correctly.

  • How do you create a save as default folder for MP3 files used Captivate text to audio voices files?

How do you create a save as default folder for MP3 files used Captivate text to audio voices files?

    Hi Ed
Thank you for contacting me, however I already know how to save text to
audio files via timeline using the Export feature.
So my question was not entirely clear and I apologize for that.  To explain
further, whenever I save a text to audio file, captivate takes me to a
default save as folder where I then have browse back to my production
folder where I am keeping all my Txt to Aud files.  This is very tedious
process when you have alot of files to save.  So my question was is there a
way to configure captivate so I can make my production folder the default
file for whenever I save a Txt to Audio file through Export feature that
the system automatically takes me to that production folder, and I am
spared the long tedious process of saving the file manually to the
    prodcution folder I want.
I have copy the pathway to the production folder in the URL filed in the
Save As dialoge box and that workaround as cut the work down but I still
have to paste that URL field to point the file to the right folder. So it
would be nice if I could do everything automatically.  Microsoft makes this
capability in their MS Office applications, so I was thinking Adobe might
do the same thing.  Your help with this would be appreicated,
    Thanks

  • Can audio/video files not cached be downloaded somehow?

I know it's been extremely difficult to find cached audio/video files since Firefox changed how cache works, but I used to be able to find them with IE. Since I had to upgrade IE, and Adobe Flash player, I'm not finding audio files from a site that used to be stored on the PC. I've tried IEcacheview, and various addons for Firefox, but nothing works. Any notions on how to get the files cached? I dont want to record them.

rmcguigan, as I already said, websites are doing this intentionally to prevent files from being stored our PCs - why would you email them about it???
I tried several cacheviewer-type apps before posting here; and you already mentioned Cacheviewer. If you tried it with that website, you'd know it doesnt work.
cor-el, streaming media files have been stored in temp internet folder before. There's something different going on where the files arent being allowed to be stored now - I'm thinking it's the new Adobe flashware.

  • "Itunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video may not work properly".

Turned my Dell running windows 7 off 2 days ago. Turned on today.  Launched ITunes and got message "Itunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video may not work properly".
All my albums are there but won't play.
Deleted Itunes and reinstalled. Same as before.
    Any ideas ??

    Hey MrCurwen,
I was able to find an article that included the same error message you're experiencing:
iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot run because it detects an issue with QuickTime
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1371
According to that article, if you see the error message "iTunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration," QuickTime may need to be reinstalled. Please follow the steps below to uninstall QuickTime and then download and install QuickTime using the QuickTime standalone Installer.
On the Start menu, click Control Panel.
Follow the steps appropriate for your Windows operating system below.
Windows Vista and Windows 7: Click Uninstall a program (or if using Windows Vista's Classic View of the Control Panel, click Programs and Features) and select QuickTime in the list of currently installed programs.
Click the Remove button (or Uninstall for Windows Vista and Windows 7) and follow the prompts to remove QuickTime from your computer.
Download QuickTime. Note: There are two options for downloading QuickTime, be sure to select the option that does not include iTunes.
    During the download:
If you choose to run the installer, proceed to the next step.
If you choose to save the download, double click the QuickTimeInstaller file, then proceed to next step.
Follow the on-screen instructions to install QuickTime.
    Reopen iTunes.
    Cheers,

  • Is it possible to change the file Kind, e.g. mkv to video and not document?

Is it possible to change the file Kind, e.g. mkv to video and not document?
I can't find where I can change this in Finder or OSX.  Is this really hardoded in the OS?  Get Info gives me no options, but that is where I set the default apps for file kinds (types).
I hope this is possible because I have lot of document kinds and the arrange by kind view in Finder is thus not very useful.
    Thanks in advance.

It has to be hard-coded in the application that claims MKV files as a type.

  • Sending Color file to FCP Looses Links to Rendered Files

I have several Color files that are very similar and from the same project. All of them Send the XML file from Color to FCP beautifully, except one. What would cause the Color export to FCP loose the connections to the rendered files and revert back to the R3D files?

I had the same issue with one of my projects recenty.
The only solution seems to reconnect at FCP each clip with the equivalent in the 'Color renders' directory, the XML keeps the original names and looses the rendered clips paths. I hope Apple can correct this bug of they are able to reproduce it as it happened to us.

  • Trouble with seperate audio/video files in DVDSP -- please help!

When I import my quicktime files into DVDSP, they are automatically segmented into seperate files, and are both the same file size. So essentially my file is doubled, and this causes the total file size to be too large and will not burn. Has anyone else had this issue, and what can I do to remedy it?
for example: If I import a file that is 1.5gb into DVDSP, then in my asset window I have a video asset with a file size of 1.5gb and an audio track with a file size of 1.5gb. It is double the size of the orginal. There has to be a setting or something that I'm unaware of that will fix this.

    Thanks for your reply.
I know I need seperate video/audio files. My question is why the audio and video files are the same exact size. They are clearly not the same size in the original file. Im okay with DVDSP doing the compressing, Im not concerned with that. I need to be able to fit large amounts of video onto a DVD, but when I import files (ive tried many different file formats) they are enlarged.
Should I not be able to import a file that is 800mb and have it stay 800mb, or should I be using a different authoring software that will allow me to do that?
    Thanks for the help!

  • Can not find audio video file

I created a dvd proj. burned it to a disc. all worked very well. I copied the dvd. proj file to an external drive. Now when i access file i get an error message that it can not find two files. C audio and C video files.
    Any suggestions?

It created the DVD proj file ok and I could play it through dvd player and burned it to a disc. The problem occurred when I copied and pasted it to an external drive. When I open the dvd proj file on the external drive I get an error message that it can not find the audio and video file. It is looking for the file on the hard drive and not the external drive. i deleted the original dvd proj file on the hard drive.

  • AVI file giving Audio/Video file has no streams

I try to import into CS5 Premiere Pro and it gives me the error. I am running on a Mac and the file works in VLC. It's pretty frustrating not to see the video except in the VLC player.

    Welcome to the forum.
Playing a file is separate from editing that same file - totally different. Playability can contribute some info, but can also instill a false sense of security. Players, like VLC, are very good for playing, as they contain about everything needed, right in the player. They do not rely on the installed CODEC's in the system, so being able to edit that same file, may well prove impossible, as the NLE program will have to rely on the installed system CODEC's. Also, even if one has the particular, necessary CODEC installed, it does not mean that the NLE program can actually use it. This ARTICLE will give you a bit more background.
As Harm mentions, it is likely an issue with at least one stream of the file and the CODEC that is needed to decode it. If you have a muxed file (both Audio and Video streams) you need two CODEC's - one for each stream. Next, they BOTH must work in PrPro. It is likely that you are either missing, one or both, or that PrPro cannot use one, or both. VLC Player doesn't need them from the system, as it obviously contains them internally. MediaPlayer Classic HC, and some others are good this way - they play almost everything. However, they do not insure that one has the CODEC installed and that it will work in the NLE. Great for playing, but not so good for insuring that that same file will edit properly.
Good luck, and let us know what is inside that AVI file. This ARTICLE will give you some background on "AVI," and what can be inside that "wrapper."

  • Unable to play audio video files in solaris express

I am unable to play mp3 and avi files in my newly installed oracle solaris express. I have installed 'gnome-audio', 'gnome-media', 'gstreamer', 'gstramer/plugin/gnonlin' packages. I have even installed 'IPSFWmpeg' MPEG-1 liabrary from sunfreeware repository. All these softwares are shown as installed packages in my package manager. But still on playing any video in totem movie player or audio file in rhythmbox player, a dialog box with an error message is displayed "The playback of this movie requires a MPEG-1 Layer 3 (MP3) decoder plugin which is not installed".
What should i do to play avi files in Totem movie player and mp3 files in Rhythmbox music player? Please don't suggest other media players because i want to use only above said totem and rhythmbox and i want to know what's wrong with my software installations?

You can get a free MP3 codec from Fluendo (http://www.fluendo.com/shop/product/fluendo-mp3-decoder/). There are some instructions on setting it up here: http://blogs.sun.com/observatory/entry/playing_your_mp3s_with_songbird.

    hi,
Base on my experience, you could use azure storage reference sharepoint app. I suggest you could recommend this blog via (http://sachintana.blogspot.com/2012/08/azure-blob-storage-for-sharepoint.html ).

  • Can I Re-Combine Audio & Video Files??

A post-production house took my DigiBeta and created two separate files for a DVD Studio Pro project: one VIDEO file and one AUDIO file.
I'm now trying to use those two separate files for a different project in iDVD. (I do not have DVD Studio Pro.) But, since iDVD can't use two separate files, I need to find a way to make them into one file that iDVD can use.
    Any help?
(This question was also posted in the iDVD forum, but this DVDSP forum seems more appropriate for the level of technical assistance needed.)
    Thanks.

What format are the files? I'm guessing that you have mpeg2 video and PCM audio... These are pretty standard formats for any tool for creating DVDs, except of course iDVD. If you have mpeg2 files, your best bet would be to get the a higher-quality quicktime, since even if you use a third party tool to re-mux the audio and video, and export it to some other quicktime format, the media will have been compressed, converted, and re-compressed by the time iDVD puts it on a disc, which not only means quality loss, but also high potential for "glitchy" playback.
I never use iDVD, because I have DVDSP. But I checked the manual and it says it definitely does not support mpeg2, which seems very strange to me. There may be enother tool you can use such a toast to make the DVD, but your best bet is to either use DVDSP with the files you have, or get new quicktime files (which might be hard) to use in iDVD.

  • Sync audio+video files (=TB's) between Mac+PC

I used Chronosync for many years to keep our drives in sync at work+home, mirroring audio+video data
usually ranging in the 1/2 to 1TB, all on Mac drives.
Now we're moving to an AVID ISIS storage (networkable) and CS isn't able to understand the fact
that the ISIS doesn't keep MAC modification dates (for example) and wants to sync every file, all the time.
I've reached out to Econtechnologies but in the meantime, is there other software out there ?
Obviously cloud based solutions will not work, we'd need way to much space.
    Thanks,
    Benny.

    Hi Raoul,
Welcome To The Apple Discussion Pages.
If you mean you are trying to do Audio only chats with a PC which is using AIM 5.9 or 5.5 then it will not work.
The AIM application has never been able to do Audio Only chats to iChat
One end needs to have a camera (preferably the Mac end).
The PC end stilll needs to do the "Tuning" after getting to the Porperties.
They may also need to enable the application through the XP firewall.
And it goes without saying they have to be on XP.

My problem is when I drag my task bar on the media player my application could not play from that point. From the point I drag the bar my media player in web-application has to play from that point.
How can I write code in servlet for SEEKING FUNCTIONALITY.
    Thank U

If you uncheck a movie by its name it won't get listed on the tv. So there isn't actually any need to give the two versions of the same movie a different name.
So for the movie encoded for tv, check its name and it will appear on the tv.
For the movie encoded for ipod, uncheck its name so it won't appear on the tv and add it to a playlist for syncing with your ipod.
