Issues starting Premiere Elements 8

Hi everyone! Can't believe I can't figure this out, even given my limited computer knowledge. I bought Adobe Photoshop elements 8 which came with a 30 day free trial of Premier Elements 8. I've never gotten it to work. When I bring it up and click "start new project", it seems to do what it should, i.e. loading a bunch of .prm applications. It loads pretty fast so everything looks like it's working the way it is supposed to. It gets as far as "loading windows media" then stops.
Just stops. It doesn't go to a window where I can start placing clips, audio, etc. I'm just left looking at the welcome screen. I tried clicking on the small icon in the upper right hand corner where I can select "open Editor behind welcome screen" but that doesn't seem to make a difference. The other thing that has me puzzled is that although I don't think I ever actually moved beyond the trial version, i.e. upgraded to the actual version, nothing I see under "properties" indicates that it is a trial version. It looks and seems like the real thing. Unless me buying it at Costco included some kind of upgrade to the actual version that I was not aware of. Anyway, I'm still left staring at a welcome screen. Can't get to the meat and potatoes of the program. As an aside, Photoshop Elements works fine.
If anyone can help, I'd be really grateful!  Kevin

In general, one should do the following:
Update Windows, including all hot-fixes
Update the video driver, and the audio driver from the mfgr's.Web sites
Update Apple's QT Player.
The majority of the launch problems are handled by this list of actions.
If they do not help you, then perhaps look at this ARTICLE for some tips on your system info, that might help us troubleshoot.
Good luck,

  • Freeze issue in Premiere Elements 3

    Hi,
We are trying to solve an issue with Premiere Elements 3 for a customer.
Yes, I know it a very old version, but it is just a home user & it has been working fine for him.  He last used it several months ago with the same hardware & all worked fine.
Now when he goes to use it again it basically freezes up.  If you turn the camera on it pops up asking the application to use.  If you select Premiere Elements it opens up the window with "capture device offline" & doesn't seem to respond to any mouse clicks.   If you go to task manager & end the task (often get a message Premiere is not responding), go into Windows Movie Maker this works fine - you can even control the camera (start, stop, etc).
If you start Premiere with the camera turned off you can seem to navigate around menus, etc no problem (until you turn the camer on & try to capture).
Consequently I assume that the hardware is OK.  Because Premiere Elements worked before I presume that maybe an update or some new application is stopping it from working, but I'm not sure what it is.
Here is a summary of the system specs:
    Win XP Home SP2
    Premiere Elements V3.0
Sony DCR-HC96  (also tried their old Sony DCR-TRV355E but this gives the same symptoms)
    Firewire (onboard Asus P5N-E motherboard)
Any thoughts would be greatly appeciated.
    Gary.
    Perth, Australia.

    Hi Bill,
    Thanks for your assistance.
I tried all of the items you mentioned, but it still gives the same result.
Interestingly once it freezes if I go to task manager & End Program (the only way to close it) I can go straight to Windows Movie Maker & it works perfectly - I can even control the play, stop, etc.
Whilst this sort of proves it isn't hardware, I had a spare firewire card so I disabled the onboard card & put in the new card - but the problem is still the same.
The next thing I have tried is to install the trial of Premiere Elements 9 (the customer is happy to buy this if it solves the problem), but the symptoms are basically the same.  With the camera turned off, the software seems to work well & I can go in & out of all the menus.  Once I turn the camera on, the device appears in the pull down list (something like MS DV ...) but none of the buttons (eg play, etc) work & it sort of freezes up & task manager says its not responding.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Gary.

  • CPU at 100% when starting Premiere Elements 10

    Hi,
When I start Premiere Elements 10 the program runs at 100% CPU usage. Even when I haven´t opened a project yet. So it is not caching media or something. On the screenshot below you can see my problem. There is no project open but the task "Adobe Premiere Elements.exe" is running at 100%.
This makes my system very slow and instable.
I have a 2GB Pentium D 3.0 GHz and my harddrives have lots of free space (They are not working very hard when using Premiere).
Can anyone help me with this?
    Dimitri

No, it doesn't barely meet the tech requirements (regardless of Adobe's suggested minimums). It is not adequate to work with this program.
With only 2 gigs of RAM, the program is not only idling but also doing a lot of paging. And, if you've got less than 30 gigs of clean, free, defragmented space, it's also struggling with defragmentation.
It's also possible the Organizer is auto-analyzing your drive and if you've got other programs running in the background (like a live defrag program or an intrusive antivirus program like Norton or McAfee) that could be contributing to the problem.

  • Error "Registration information is invalid" when you start Premiere Elements 7 (Windows)

    Issue
When you start Adobe Premiere Elements 7 for the first time, Premiere Elements returns the error message "Registration information is invalid. Please reinstall Adobe Premiere Elements."
    Solution
Do one of the following solutions:
Solution 1: Install Premiere Elements 7 using the Premiere Elements 7 serial number.
If you purchased Premiere Elements bundled with Photoshop Elements, you may have used the Photoshop Elements serial number included in the pack to install Premiere Elements. Uninstall Premiere Elements and reinstall Premiere Elements using the Premiere Elements serial number.
Note: The Premiere Elements serial number starts with the number set 1143. The Photoshop Elements serial number starts with the number set 1057.
Solution 2: Use a Company Name with 40 single-byte characters or fewer, or 20 double-byte characters or fewer.
When installing Premiere Elements, you are asked to provide a user name, a company name, and a serial number. While the company name field is not a required field for installation, if you choose to enter data, do not enter a name that contains more than 40 single-byte characters or more than 20 double-byte characters.
Note: A single-byte character is any character in the standard ASCII character set. English language characters are all single-byte characters. Double-byte character code uses two bytes to represent one character. The double-byte character set was developed for the Japanese, Chinese, and Korean characters sets. Many extended ASCII characters are also double-byte.
Solution 3: Install Premiere Elements to a location that does not contain extended ASCII characters in the file path.
Do not install Premiere Elements to a location that uses extended ASCII characters in the file path. Extended ASCII characters include characters such as , –, ›, †, ‡, ‘, Ÿ.
Note: The default installation path for Adobe Premiere Elements does not contain extended ASCII characters.

Thanks.  I thought of that.  But won't I get whammied for registration again?  I just registered this at adobe last month after rebuilding a crashed system.  In other words, will Adobe know that I've uninstalled it, and therefore have an available license?  Thanks for the welcome.  I've been a Studio premium user for 3 years, and now that my product is no longer supported....I need support!
    Thanks.

  • Has Adobe solved the crashing issues for Premiere Elements 10?

    Hi there,
I've been using Adobe Premiere Elements 8 for about 2 years now.  I do like this program and appreciate it being quite a straight forward,  uncomplicated,  video editing program.  One thing which really annoys me about it,  however,  is its constant tendency to just crash when I import and move around *.jpg images using motion tracking,  or just dragging something around the screen.  For example,  I film myself walking into a room with my hand pretending to hold a balloon.  I then import a *.jpg image of a balloon into the shot and move to position it in my hand as though it's really there.
My intention is to edit the balloon image to follow my hand while I'm in the room and,  while I could use the motion tracking feature,  I prefer to edit frame by frame,  or else the *.jpg image doesn't always line up properly with what it's following (it's close enough,  but I prefer doing it myself).
Whenever I move an imported *.jpg image on the screen,  it obviously becomes blocky for a moment until you wait for the image to become clear (I think pixilated is the right term,  but am not certain) or unblocky (ie curved edges,  which moved and became square,  become curved again).
What Premiere Elements 8 has been doing on my computer (which has an i5 processor,  more than enough memory and so forth) is to crash out of the program when I drag an image across the screen.
It has helped to move a picture slightly,  wait for it to become clear,  then move it slightly again,  but this still has a tendency to cause Premiere Elements to crash out.
CAN ANYONE tell me,  please,  if Adobe Premiere Elements 10 has this or similar issues because this problem alone is driving me crazy?
    Advance thanks.

    Welcome to the forum.
Many users felt that PrE 8 was a very weak release (kind of like Adobe's version of MS's Vista OS), but most users, with properly setup and tuned computers, find that PrE 10 is a very stable build.
For the issues with PrE 8 crashing, I would see this ARTICLE. It starts with a checklist on setting up PrE and the computer, for best results. Then, it goes into many tuneup tips, for both the computer, and the OS. Finally, it lists links to help with troubleshooting.
Good luck, and hope that something in the article helps,

  • Help! Starting Premiere Elements 10: A problem has occured with the licensing... Error 213:11.

When starting the product, this error comes up:
I tried several reinstalls with/without admin rights, with/without diabled antivir software, as testversion and with a valid licence key. All under Windows 7 32bit.

  • Issues running Premiere Elements 8

Open Premiere Elements 8 and all I get is a grey screen.  Unable to start a new project or open old one.

    A.T. Romano
Q:  What is your issue....when you get the grey screen, do you have media on the Timeline? If you have media on the Timeline, what are its properties?
Is this a "it worked before but not now" or "it never worked before" issue?
A:  I launch Premiere Elements 8.   I get the Screen which has Organize, New Project and Open Project buttons.  If I select the New Project Button Premiere Elements 8 starts to load.  Then I get the software home page with the New Project Dialog box.  Enter Junk as the name and hit OK button.  Nothing happens.  The dialog box goes away and I’m left with the PRE8 form with the back bar at top with the menu in it and a greyish screen below.  Almost all of the options in the different menu’s are not avaialbe.  Ender File, New Project, Open Project and Recent Projects are available.  Select Open Project, and pick project from list and get message;  “Projects created with Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Premiere Elements are not compatible. Please use the appropriate application to open this project.”
The usual drill questions for Premiere Elements 8 users
Are you working from the 8.0.1 Update of the program?
Do you have the automatic Background Rendering and AutoAnalzyer features turned Off?
Have you looked at the issue with and without "Enable GPU Playback" enabled in preferences?
    A:
    Yes, using 8.0.1
I think I do have this turned off.  But can’t get to Edit – Preferences to turn Background Rendering on.
    No, but can’t open preferences.
    Q:
What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 running on?
How many video cards/graphic cards does your computer use, 1 or 2. Whatever the case, is the video card/graphics card driver up to date
according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card(s)?
    A:
    Computer information.
    Manufacture – Dell
    Model – Studio XPS 9100
Processor – Intel Core i7 CPU   Memory – 9 GB
Operating system – Window 7 Home Premium  64 bit – Service Pack 1
Display adapter  - ATI Redeon HD 5670  Driver Date 5/17/2010   Driver Version  8.740.0.0 Per Microsoft, update version not available.  However, went to web and updated version to 13.251.0.0.  Issue still happens.
    No Import Updates available
7 Optional updates installed – retested issue and it’s still happening
    1 card.
Please let me know if you require additional information.
P.S.  I did try to uninstall and re-install the software, but that made no difference
    New information;
    When I launch Premiere Elements 8, there are three options;
    Organize
    New Project
    Open project
The last two don't do anything and give me the empty software screen.  The first one does seem to open the software up correctly.  I am able to get to the menus including Edit - Preverences this way.

  • Problems starting Premiere Elements 13 -

When starting the program, it returns a message stating that 'We have detected an incompatible display driver.  To get a better and faster playback performance, please update your display driver.'  After this, the program aborts.  I have updated the display driver but the same behavior continues.  The operating system is Windows 7.

    Thanks for the reply.
Are you working with the tryout or the purchased version? And, if purchased, did you install from installation files from an online download from Adobe direct or from an installation disc from an authorized reseller of the program?
Classically those display card error message are specific to a display card issue which turns out to be
    a. not latest driver version of the card - assumed you did that based on web site of manufacturer of the card rather than just Device Manager/Display Adapters route
    b. computer using more than 1 video card/graphics card
    c. if "a" does not work, deletion of the BadDrivers.txt file
It looks like we have been there and "a" and "c" and "b" does not apply since you have only the AMD card.
I am not sure what adjustments you can make to that AMD card to assure its optimal compatibility with Premiere Elements 13. We can attempt
to get a working link to Adobe Chat for it to help you.

If the link does not hold its set, then you will need to navigate to the Chat Panel using the above titles as guides. As of a few moments ago,
the Chat Panel displayed as being active.
Before we do that, perhaps we can try two things which are a bit questionable for a display card error resolution, but.....
    a. Delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file...

and in the 13.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then delete the whole 13.0 Folder in
which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Be sure to be working with Folder Options Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives
active so that you can see the complete path.
    b. Do an uninstall, free ccleaner run through (regular and registry cleaner parts), reinstall with antivirus and firewall(s) disabled.

  • Edit column issue in Premiere Elements 9

Is there an issue with the Edit Column feature in the project window of Premiere Elements 9?
When I add a Description or Comment column, changes are not saved when I close and reopen the program.
Also, I cannot write any text in these columns to describe my videos (if I click on the space for writing comments, it just opens up a window to view the video) whereas I was able to do it with version 4 and earlier.
I am using the trial version before buying and would like to know if the purchased version has this problem or not and if it can be fixed?

I could be mis-remembering, but I think that Steve Grisetti has confirmed about what you indicate. I do not know if this was some sort of change in Adobe's thinking, and they did not clean up after themselves, or if this is just a Bug, that needs to be addressed.
Personally, I would file a Bug Report, with the full details, and hope to get a fix in the works.
Also, if I am mis-remembering, I am sure that Steve G. will correct me.
    Good luck,

  • Video editing & playback issues: Adobe Premiere Elements 8

    Hello all,
I have made several attempts at transfering HD video  files from my camcorder to my PC and then editing.
When I try to play the transferred file, it is a little choppy and then gets worse as I edit it.
    Here are my specs/config:
    System:
    HP Pavilion a6720y
    Windows Vista 64 bit
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 440
AMD Phenon 9550 Quad Core 2.2Ghz
    6GB RAM
    640GB SATA drive, 7200 rpm
    Camera:
    Sony HDR-XR150
    Editing Software:
    Adobe Premiere Elements 8
I copy the video files from the camcorder to the computer via USB 2.0.
When I connect the camera directly to the TV the video plays without any issues.  So I know the AVCHD files are "good" and I suspect they are also possibly "good" on my hard drive, but just cannot be played or edited appropriately for some reason.
One input I received was that due to the nature of AVCHD files, I should convert the video to "I-frame codec" and then edit.  Can Adobe Premiere Elements do this?
    Any other thoughts/ideas?
    Thanks for any help.

2 - 320Gig data for Win7 swap file and video project files
When I create a project on #2 drive, the various work files follow,

Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708 for more) with Windows (or Mac OS) and software on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is not slowed down by trying to do everything
I find that the three drives I use work very well for me, for editing AVCHD video... some people use a 4th drive, so video INPUT files are on drive three and all OUTPUT files are on drive four... I only bought a mid-tower case instead of a full tower case (my bad... but had to fit in the space available on my office desk!) so I use the three drives that will fit
Depending on your exact hardware (motherboard brand & model AND USB2 enclosure brand & model AND external hard drive brand & model) AND the type of video file, you may... or may NOT... be able to use an external USB2 hard drive for SD (Standard Definition) video editing

Where, and how, is PrE installed? When you launch it, are you running as an Administrator?
First, PrE wants to be installed competely on the C:\ and wants direct access to the My Documents folder. It also wants to be both installed and then launched from an Administrator account.
It is not designed (nor is the big-brother PrPro) to function in a fully networked environment. It will extract media, etc. from an NAS, or from a mapped networked drive, but it does not like to run under most networked environments.
It's my guess that there is something in this installation that it is not comfortable with. More details will likely help.
Good luck, and looking for the answers to the questions above.
