Issues synching certain appointments and tasks

Hello together,
I have 2 bigger problems that prevent me from using Ovi-Suite as my main synch program with my PIM application:
1) Appointments with no time (all-day events) and starting with an "@" that are entered on the handset, won't show up on Outlook.
For example when on the road I enter: 20.01.2010, all day appointment, suject line: @home Do laundry , that appointment will not show up on Outlook.
2) Taks in Outlook that are undated all of a sudden get a due date on the handset. This due date equals the date of the synch. Funnily enough, the same task on Outlook remains undated!
One minor feature request:
Will there ever be the chance of categories synch with Outlook? Third Party Software uses categories for appointments and tasks (for example Papyrus) so I am asking myself if these fields are proprietary or open? If they are open, why can't none of Nokia's softwares synch categories with Outlook?

First issue can be closed...that seems to be a problem with a 3rd party application in connection with Ovi-Suite. After opening the appointment again and saving it, it showed up in Outlook after the synch . It also does not have anything to do with the "@" sign. The Nokia calendar works right away.
But still interesting, the PC-Suite does not have this issue...

I had the same problem. Here is what worked for me. Open the mail app and delete your exchange account (Settings > Delete Account). Then re-add your Exchange account. After this my Exchange contacts showed up again.

Firefox 4 issue with certain websites and mp3s

Downloaded Firefox 4 for my Mac 10.6.7. I'm no longer able to watch certain videos (like those at adultswim.com) or listen to mp3s. Know this has to do with plugins, but I can't figure out which ones are the issue.

I tried your suggestion, and both the sites I mention above loaded without issue. But I think hardware acceleration was already off:
When I went into the advanced preferences in safe mode, hardware acceleration was unchecked, which, according to the FF guidance I saw on safe mode, is the default in that mode. When I then relaunched FF in normal mode, acceleration was still unchecked. So unless starting in safe mode turned off the acceleration and that setting carried over to normal mode, I'm assuming it wasn't on in the first place.
Because the issue only occurs on a few sites, I'm assuming it is sloppy web design as opposed to a browser problem. I wonder if the issue could be related to the problem sites using Java or Flash, or some script that stymies Firefox, but I don't know how to check that.
The thing that bothers me is that the browser causes the whole system to hang while it struggles with loading the site. I'm no expert, but I don't think that should happen in a four-core, 2.8 GHz system with 6 GB of RAM.

Caps Lock Keyboard having issues with certain notes and chords

Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me with a weird issue when I'm using the caps lock keyboard on my macbook pro (running 10.6.2) with logic 8.
When I play certain chords, 1 or 2 of the notes don't sound.
It's almost like I'm having limited polyphony but in a random way.
It's happening on any instrument or plugin.
Sometimes only 3 of 4 notes are ringing out, sometimes 2 of 4, sometimes I can play a big 6 note chord and no notes drop out.
It's not the same note dropping out in multiple chords when it happens, sometimes in one chord a note won't ring out but in a different chord that same note will play fine.
But it's the same chords that give me the same issues every time.
I've already trashed the prefs file (com.apple.logic.pro.cs)
This only happens on my macbook pro on the internal keyboard. It doesn't happen on my desktop mac nor does it happen when I use an external keyboard on the macbook pro.
My Macbook Pro's keyboard functions fine in every other way.
Any Ideas? It's really driving me crazy.

There is a limit to the keyboard response in hardware - it's got better, but in older machines the keyboard processor could only handle about two or three key presses at once.
A qwerty keyboard is not a musical instrument - you cannot guarantee a decent, or quick response - I'd suggest you get a real keyboard if you are writing a piano concerto....

Kernel issue reading drive partitions and data?

Hey guys, I hope some of you can help with this. I don't post problems often, but feel that I finally must do so in this case. I've searched, and apologise if I've missed any related posts. Now to the problem...
Ever since the 2.6.31.x kernels have hit the repo, I've been having issues with certain partitions and external drives being mounted and the data on the drives being read.
With all the 2.6.30.x kernels and earlier releases, I could mount my external USB drives and they would auto mount and the data read and show up in Nautilus or Dolphin almost instantly. With all the new 2.6.31.x kernels, it takes a few seconds for the drives to auto mount, then about 40 seconds of hang time for the file manager window to open up showing all the files. This happens with Nautilus, or Dolphin, depending on whether I'm on my Gnome or KDE box. Reverting back to the previous kernel makes things work normally again.
Out of curiosity, I tried the latest version of Ubuntu to see what would happen since it's using the newer kernel, but things are working fine again there, so it has to be a difference in the kernel they use, or there is something wrong with my configuration under Arch.
I've already filed a bug report on this about a month or so back and was told that it's probably an upstream issue with the kernel:

Do any of you know what might be happening with this, or can you confirm the issue on your end? I don't like Ubuntu at all, so won't be switching to that. I really want to get my Arch boxes running properly again, but with the newer kernel.

Since few profile options work fine and few don’t, we suspect that the definition used to seed the data is incorrect. If so, how do we find out if there is any thing missing in the definition or do we have any tools or methods to validate the setup is correct.
Any help is appreciated.

Delete background Apps from memory and then Reset.
To Delete background Apps, double click Home button, in the bar at bottom, hold down on an App Icon until the minus sign appears, tap all the minus signs, until all background Apps are cleared from memory. Then Reset, hold both Home and Power buttons until the iPhone begins to restart itself, ignor the 'slide to power off' let the iPhone restart itself. Usually takes about 10 seconds of holding both buttons.

I need to restore from last backup because my iPhone is having issues. I'd like to keep certain pictures and videos from my iPhone app: Video Safe. If I do restore from last backup, will the pics that I put on the app after my last backup still be on it?

N86 no longer syncs with Outlook Calendar and Task

I have been having much troubles with syncing my N86 (recently updated to 30.009 firmware) to my Outlook 2003 with Ovi Suite 2.1.1.1.
At first, the Contacts kept duplicating themselves. I have about 1000 contacts in my Outlook, but Ovi Suite (and my N86 device) ends up sometimes with 1800 contacts -- of which 800 are duplicates. This is very annoying and time consuming to clean up of course. I have discovered that the problem is somehow linked to Ovi.com. I have since turned off syncing to Ovi.com and only keep my N86 device in sync with Outlook and Ovi Suite. But that wasn't before I had to basically delete all my contacts from the N86 device and from Ovi Suite, followed by a sync to Outlook.
Around this same time, I have noticed that my N86 device was missing appointments that I had entered into Outlook 2003. I discovered that the N86 device no longer syncs to Outlook through Ovi Suite. I keep getting the error message "Sync Canceled -- Could not sync calendar items and tasks. Plug the USB cable into your device again or connect via Bluetooth. Then sync again." I did reconnect my N86 device but the same error message shows each time. Basically, Ovi Suite has stopped syncing Calendar items with my N86 device now.
Can anyone suggest what might have gone wrong? Has anyone else experienced this problem? What can I do to get my calendar items back into my device?

Which operating system do u use?
Are you trying to connect thru cable or thru Bluetooth?
Go to OVI suite -> help -> About nokia OVI suite -> System information. Paste the information...

Anyone got Notes and Tasks to synch between MS Oultook and the Q10?

I find it shocking that this "issue" has still not been resolved. Why do you keep giving people reasons to switch? Tasks and notes are integral to many people's BB experience...

Can't synch certain songs

I can't get certain songs and tones to synch to my iPhone 4S. They Are showing in my iTunes on my PC. 2 are recent purchases and 2 are old tones that disappeared on me.

I did read all of the threads in the Community about this issue, before I posted and did a clean reinstall and also turned off local files, but nothing worked. As I was disappointed, I didn't log in for a couple of days, hence my late reply to you, but I've just had a quick play of a few songs in Spotify and it's now working!! Fingers crossed it stays that way. So I'm not sure why or how, but it all seems to be perfectly fine now. Thanks again for the offer of help. EnchantedMuse :-)

Auto Synching iTunes libraries and music files among 3 computers?

My wife and I have a PowerBook and a MacBook that we use offsite at work and at home. I'm buying a new iMac for home. What I'd like to do is make the iMac a central respository for our entire iTunes music library, and have the 2 'books synch with the iMac. It's a huge music library - like 80+ GBs, so it won't even fit on each of our laptops. I don't want to simply turn on iTunes sharing to stream the music to the laptops, especially since that won't work (easily) while we're not at home. What I do want, is to have certain playlists automatically synched to the 'books, so the music files of a particular playlist (or lists) actually reside on the 'books. My wife would have the playlists & associated mp3 files on her MacBook and I'd have my playlist and associated mp3files on my PowerBook. And the iMac would have everything.
I thought that I read an article in MacWorld or MacAddict a while ago about this, but can't seem to turn it up. I've also looked at some of the synching software on VersionTracker, but I'm not seeing anything that's as simple as clicking a Synch now button...
Anyone have any suggestions? Advice? Thank you in advance!!

I replied earlier to your iPhoto question, and the response here is similar. iTunes is not a server and so you will have similar issues. Things are further complicated because iTunes doesn't particularly like to Export song files (tho' it will merrily export Playlists). However you can drag and drop Library listings to the Desktop and it will copy the song files there. So, drag and drop the files to a folder, sync that folder to a folder on the client machines, and again add the songs to iTunes via a script using Folder Actions for automation.
And again, you will have issues if you try and sync back to the iMac. So there's nothing as simple as clicking a Sync now button.
I wonder if this capability is limited because it would make piracy even easier?
Have you thought of buying a couple of iPods? That's how we solved the same issue in this house.

Sorry to say this, but you must stop rewarding your own threads. A user registered today (10/25//2007) and posted many threads and always rewarded you as thread completed. I dodn't think it is a coincidence.
If every SDN member starts playing this dirty trick, then there is no meaning to use SDN. SDN is for the people who share their good project experiences by helping other members by answering the issue.
As I mentioned before, I should take up this issue with SAP officials if this happens again.
Not only you, some other members were also recently started practicing the same trick, which is not a good thing.

Issues with Exchange Account and Q10

Well, I hate to be writing this, but I'm hoping that there might be someone out there that can help get past some first day issues I am experiencing.
The background: I have a long history with legacy BlackBerry devices, and almost as much history with iOS devices. My most recent phone was an iPhone 4S, and I make extensive use of iCloud to keep my iMacs, iPhone, and iPad connected in real-time. The setup worked. It wasn't perfect, but it worked. However, because I used to have a BlackBerry device (most recent the 9930) and because I don't use the iPhone for more than e-mail, iMessage, and phone calls (generally speaking), I decided to give the newest BlackBerry device a shot. So I bought a Q10.
At this point I feel compelled to say that the hardware is everything I had hoped it to be. It's solid, has a good weight, and appears to be made very well. I have no complaints with the hardware, including the keyboard (a big selling factor for me), so I won't really get into the hardware as the issues I am experiencing all have to do with the OS. Let me also say that I am very familiar with the iCloud integration issues (missing Contact photos and disabled Calendar sync), so I'm not voicing a complaint over those issues in this thread.
I have connected my Exchange account. I used to have everything in Exchange before I moved my entire computing world over to Apple, and now I keep Exchange around for e-mail. Therefore, I have no contacts, no tasks, no notes, very limited calendar entries, and a massive amount of e-mail on the Exchange server. However, to test everything out, I have added a single contact record so I can see it show up on the phone and be able to test two-way sync between the Q10 and Exchange. And here is where the first issues crop up. It looks like Exchange connects and then disconnects at random. For example, if I open my Contacts on the phone, I see the one contact (called John Doe). Then, as the phone is sitting there with the screen on, the contact will disappear and I will see a "Start adding contact to your contact list" notice on the screen. Then, after a short period of time, the single contact will return. It is important to note that the entire time this is happening, the All Contacts option is selected in the list so that all available contacts are shown. Additionally, I have SIM card contacts turned off, but if I alter the selection in the view list (All Contacts, Favorites, etc.), the SIM contacts will re-appear when I return to the All Contacts view. At the same time, even though I have turned off SIM Contacts in the settings, the setting has reverted to show SIM Contacts. If I turn off the setting again, SIM Contacts still show up. Possibly related: I can't delete contacts on the SIM card, no matter how many times I try, and it now it seems that I can't get SIM Contacts to go away in the Contacts app.
Likewise, Exchange seems to connect and disconnect from Calendar. I go to the calendar and move day by day to June 15th. I see an entry that I know is from Exchange (I have no other connected calendars at this time), and it is in blue. I change the calendar color to green and the entry changes color, as expected. However, if I jump back to today and then scroll day by day to get to June 15th again, the calendar entry is missing. After a few seconds, the entry re-appears, but it is, once again, in blue. The setting has reverted itself, and it seems like Exchange is completely disconnecting and automatically reconnecting to the phone like I am setting it up again for the first time. Very odd. As I'm typing this, I just saw something odd. I swiped to wake up the phone, and the active frames screen was the visible screen. The calendar app is still running (since I left it running, minimized, when the phone went to sleep) and the date shown in the active card was Jan 1, not Jun 8. Why? The date (and time) on the phone is correct and is set automatically by the cellular system.
Nevertheless, looking at BlackBerry Hub, I see only two e-mails in my Inbox from Exchange, even though I have roughly a dozen in my Inbox. The rest are filed in sub-folders. And bam! Just like that... I get the "Add Accounts" screen while looking at the Hub. In other words, as I was typing this, I first saw two Exchange e-mails and then, out of nowhere, the e-mails disappear and I see the "Add Accounts" screen as if no account has been connected.
So... first question: Is anyone else experiencing this issue? This is very strange, and very frustrating. Second: could this be related to the large amount of e-mails I have stored on Exchange, some of which have large attachments? I selected "Forever" as the sync history length. I have my concerns, however, if this is related to loading historical e-mails onto the phone (in other words, the first sync with Exchange) because there is no reason that I can understand that the phone would blank out as if no account was connected at all. I can understand lag and stuttering while the history is syncing, but not a complete disconnect and reconnect. Considering all of the issues with the one and only contact record disappearing, the calendar entry for Jun 15th disappearing and then reappearing with the wrong calendar color, and e-mail in my Inbox incomplete (two of a dozen e-mails) and ultimately disappearing, I feel like this OS just has some real, significant issues.
Full disclosure: I do want iCloud to work and am a fan of Apple products, but the lack of full iCloud sync support is not a big enough issue for me to want to send back this phone and/or see it fail so miserably. I will happily move my info from iCloud into Exchange, Google, and/or set up a new Exchange account for personal use (Office 365) because I am not wedded to iCloud per se. But, I won't go through that trouble if I can't even get my first account to work properly. It should also be noted that I do have a basic Google account (non-paid) and I had previously attempted to connect to it. However, I was experiencing the exact same issues with contacts disappearing, e-mail disappearing, etc. So I deleted that account. Truth be told, I deleted the Exchange account as well, and then re-connected to Exchange only to test one account at a time. Unfortunately, even with Exchange only, I am seeing very strange and frustrating behavior as described above.
Help... please. I want this to work but the frustration I am feeling is growing worse by the hour.

To follow-up with this issue:
I ended up performing a security wipe on my device. The security wipe finished, and I was about to reconnect with Exchange when I decided to visit our host's web site to see if they had any articles covering the issues I was experiencing. While they didn't have anything specific, I did find a step-by-step guide to connecting a BB10 device to Exchange... and right there at the end, it said "Do NOT enable memo sync."
I contacted support, and the rep told me that OS 10 has an issue with memo sync and it can cause all sorts of unpredictable behavior. Now, whether or not this is accurate I can say this: So far, the device is not disconnecting and reconnecting like it was before. Problem is, is this a result of not enabling memo sync, or is this a result of the security wipe?
I may have overlooked it, but I don't recall reading anything about that anywhere else. I'm tempted to try re-enabling the memo sync to see if everything blows up again. At least that way I can see for myself if the memo sync is a real issue. Of course, perhaps it's an issue with SherWeb (our host) specifically. Hm...
Anyway, for those that were interested, and for those that may come along in the future with a similar situation, the strange behavior that I first reported is no longer happening. I just don't know if it was a result of a security wipe or a result of not enabling memo sync with Exchange.

Week view and task list solutions? Solved: a way to sync notes to Mac.

I've been using a Palm Tungsten T5 for years and routinely rely on the Palm's Calendar week view feature and task list. The week view is indispensable to see where I can fit in appointments. Are there any ways to achieve the same functionalities on the iPhone, whether using built-in iPhone apps or third party apps? The task list would have to include item priorities, due dates, alarms, and ideally repeating events.
I have found a way to sync notes from the iPhone to my Mac using MarkSpace's The Missing Sync for iPhone; notes are synced to the MarkSpace "notebook" application, where you can edit the notes (and copy and paste) and sync them back to the iPhone. This doesn't sync notes with any Apple applications, though.
If I could solve the week view and task list omissions, I could see my way to replace my Palm with an iPhone. (And when ePocrates releases a full suite for the iPhone, I'll be all set.) But in the absence of these, I'll have to keep using a Palm.

I'm in the same boat, unfortunately.
As a life long Palm-User the PIM-functionalities of iCal can only be described as "rudimentary". It is nowhere near DateBk6 for example. And I would be just fine if it would come close to say 50% of it's functionality. Right now it's at about 25%.
- no repeating tasks?
- no tasks+calendar in one view?
- no week view?
- no icons for event/task categories?
Come on Apple, such a great device with the amazing screen resolution, horizontal view etc. and you are not taking opportunity of it and get beat by 10 year old PDA's?
