Issues updating itunes
when i try to download itunes 10 it freezes at about 75% i have tried closing everything down / restarting pc but it will not get any further than 75%
please help!!!!!

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

I've been trying to update itunes, so I can update my iPhone4. I've tried installing different versions, same message. I tried uninstalling itunes, and I get the same message! I've searched my computer for this file and cannot find it. I have a Dell XPSM1530 with Windows Vista Service Pack 2.
Does anyone have this problem? I've searched for a solution, but nothing has worked. I also just emailed Apple support about it, we will see what they say.

Can't update Itunes. Need OS help.
I am having issues updating Itunes to be able to sync my Ipod mini. It says I need a newer version of itunes, but I can't get the newer version without 10.6.8. I can't get 10.6.8 without 10.6. I can't figure out where to get 10.6. What do I need to download and how do I get it done?

Issues since itunes update 11.0.2.26
Ipod nano 6th generation. No previous issues. I updated itunes on my PC to 11.0.2.26 recently and when I opened it the first time all of my music was gone. It asked to do a scan and import and I agreed. My music came back (at least I hope they are all there) but my playlists are gone (they are still on my nano though). I recently bought some new music and went to sync my ipod with my computer. I connects fine, it comes up in itunes as being connected, I can look at the music on it, but it isn't actually syncing. The new music I purchased is not showing up on the nano after the nano screen claims to have synced. (Interestingly it only does this screen right after I plug it into the usb, not if I manuallly tell it to sync on the pc, which apparently does nothing). I have reset, restarted, tried different cords, and alternated usb outlets, etc. Ran diagnostics and all device connectivity tests pass and it says ipod connected, but in the next screen when I try to run the device sync tests it tells me no ipod found. This all started with the new update...
Try just downloading and installing from the Support site - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1614 - instead of the Mac App Store.

Is it possible to update itunes without getting Mavericks? I have an issue with my iPhone.
I recently updated to ios8.0.2 for my iphone 5s. And now when I plug it into my macbook, itunes prompts me to update itunes because ios8 apparently doesn't allow me to sync the previous version of itunes. But the new itunes requires updating to Mavericks, which I really DO NOT want to do, mostly because I do run Bootcamp a lot and start up in windows from time to time. I've heard people having issues with bootcamp and Mavericks, like having to re install Windows/Parallels/etc. and I am not ready for that mess. I don't have access to my windows 7 serial number anymore (it was given to me by a teacher awhile back with whom I don't have contact with anymore). I'm just ultimately trying to avoid screwing up bootcamp/windows, losing files, and having to purchase windows if the worst case scenario happens.
I considered just using itunes in windows, but on the windows side of things, itunes wont give me the notification/option to transfer all my purchases from my iphone, so there goes that. If there is a solution to just transferring purchases, I'd much rather go that route than the mess of mavericks.Click here.

Updating Issue with iTunes 7.0.1.8
A few weeks ago I made the jump to the newly released iTunes 7.0. I had a slew of issues with this update (which by the way Apple has still not provided a working solution for), which I addressed in detail in this post: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3170496#3170496
Today I updated to the new iTunes 7.0.1.8. There were no issues during the installation itself, however afterwards is a completely different story. When I attempt to open iTunes, I receive the following error message: "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed."
My first thought was to see if Quicktime is working normally. It is. No problem there. I thought perhaps I should try repairing the installation. So I went to Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Software > iTunes. I attempted to use the 'repair' option. This did not work at all.
At this point I restarted my computer and uninstalled iTunes. I restarted once again and reinstalled. When the installation had finished I received the prompt, "would you like to run iTunes after the installation is completed?" I clicked 'yes.' iTunes opened, no problem.
I closed iTunes and attempted to reopen it normally. It would not open, instead giving me the same message: "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed."
I thought the previous issues with iTunes not recognizing my iPod were bad enough but now I can't even open iTunes at all. This is absolutely unacceptable on Apple's part. It was bad enough that they released 7.0 with all its bugs, but at this point they should have their act together. Instead the problems are getting worse.

My itunes opens 2-3 hrs after doubleclicking it to open;it happened once or twice with itunes 11.x , but its a constant problem after updating itunes to the latest 12.0.1....my operating system windows7;processor i5 intel haswell and 4gb ram...i have no issue with opening other big programs....i tried uninstalling completely the itunes and reinstalling it as i thought at first it is not opening (because it takes really long time) and i followed the following support pages
1)iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues
2)iTunes for Windows doesn't open after upgrading in Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
but my problem doesnot get solved even after trying all the methods in the above pages...

I updated Itunes today to the latest version. Windows 7 64bit. None of my drivers work and get an error when itunes starts, about registry setting for reading and writing dvds and cds missing. Anyone else have the same issue. I downloaded itunes again, reinstalled still have same issue.
I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

Try clearing your browser's cache and redownloading the iTunes setup file.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Updated iTunes to 11.0.3 and now when I try to use Airport Express I get a message in iTunes that states, "an unknown error has occured (-15000.) I gave the Airport a hard re-start, so I don't think that is the issue. Using Windows 7 Ultimate
Looks like I fixed it., thanks to another post I read. I went into my Norton Security. Under Settings. Chose Firewall. Program rules. changed the itunes setting from "auto" to "allow" This also fixed my error (-3212) which would not allow me to connect to the iTunes store.

Since updating iTunes, having playback sound issues
Updated iTunes so that I could install iOS 5. Now when using iTunes for playback from my library on my iMac the sound is TERRIBLE. Really low volume, muddy sound. Volume on everything else is fine, so it isn't a speaker issue. Volume was fine a few days ago, so I'm assuming that it is an iTunes 10.5 (141) issue.
I'm now having the same sound problem with my AAC audiobook files. Couldn't yet sa if it's all the files or just some of the newly imported ones.
They now playback with noticable aliasing as if their bitrate has been significantly lowered.
Horrible to listen to music that now sounds like an AM radio broadcast.
Gonna wait and hope to see if a fix will come this week.
Also noticed that some of the same type files don't correctly copy into my iTunes library for some reason.

Updated itunes, ipod and now i have playlist issues.
just upgraded to OS X (5.8). then upgraded ipod to os 4.2. then updated itunes to 10. now i am having interesting issues when i plug the ipod into the computer. of course, everything on the ipod music was wiped out. so i had to sync back all the music. but now i cannot make any playlists when i plug in the ipod. i can only make playlists in itunes on the computer. this is not right. i made several playlists on my ipod before. when i hit the file drop down menu, none of the playlist options are highlighted when i have the ipod selected. what has happened or what do i need to do???
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. -
Itunes 10.5.2 Issues! Been "Updating iTunes Library" for over 8 hrs now. Not even halfway finished on about 275 GB

Can't access anything in my library while it's doing this.I moved into a clean install last night and when I fired up iTunes 10.5.1. I held down "option" key, selected my original library and everything was perfect. That was until I quit. It started to "update" the library. I was slightly concerned, but since I had just moved into a new install I let it go and hoped for the best. For 85GB it took quite a while, close to an hour. This made me a little more concerned, but in the light of Apple, I resigned myself to the fact that "stuff" happens. And again hoped for the best. So I would imagine for 275GB would be a lot more. THEN after that was done it asked if I wanted it do something to match my settings? ***? My settings were the same as they were in the previous install. Or did something not go right with 10.5.1 in the other install and this was overlooked? I OK'd it and hoped for the best again.
But now I am getting an error as I startup iTunes:
"A required iTunes component is not installed. Please reinstall iTunes. (-42404)"
iTunes comes up just fine behind this error and after dismissing it all is just fine. Or so I think or am led to believe. I'm thinking it's a "phone home" component, so I'm not real concerned. That's why I came here today to look up this error and stumbled on this post that somewhat happened to me last night.
Looks like the process takes a while. And what it's updating I'm not sure, but I run nightly updates and all the "important" iTunes files in many iterations are safely backed up for reversion. Apple, never a dull moment . . . -
Having Problems Updating iTunes 10.6.3, it wont update when I click the download button to update the itunes. What should I do to fix the issue? And does Anyone esle have this problem?
Just want to update the problem everybody is having downloading the new update. If you waited, and didn't try to reinstall or anything, it looks like a "fix" is coming to you. My previous ITunes was working fine so I decided to just wait it out and see if Apple would fix it. Knew it wasn't my computer because of all the same questions in this forum. And I want to let all to know that when I signed on to my computer today an Apple Software Update window popped up on my desktop. (Not the little one we've all been clicking on from the ITunes screen.). This came up right on my desktop. I clicked on it to download and it worked like a charm. After it was done downloading I pulled up ITunes and all looked great, all my purchases, songs were still there. I then plugged in my IPod and then my IPad and they both synced, etc., ....all is well again! So it you didn't try to re-install or anything, and have just been waiting and using your current version of ITunes, be patient. Looks like the fix will be coming to you, too.
