Issues using macbook with bootcamp and external apple monitor

I am having issues using an apple external monitor connected to my macbook with bootcamp - in particular, if i connect the monitor to the computer when the computer is already on, it won't work. Also, when i disconnect the monitor fromt he computer, the computer screen will go black and I'll have to re-start
Anybody experienced the same and can help?
Thx

just make sure that while its standing on its side there aren't any plugs or cables on that side. I'm not familiar with the mb port setup, but having power, two usb, and a display cable could prose a problem for sideward standing if they are on separate sides of the machine.
as the first commenter mentioned the orientation of your computer is irrelevant, but you wouldn't want to have the weight of the laptop sitting ontop of a usb or video plug that's coming out the side.

  • Any compatibility issues using MacBook with client's A/V setups geared towards PCs?

I travel giving PowerPoint seminars to US companies. I bring my PC laptop and plug into their projector.  I'm considering switching from my 12" ThinkPad to the MacBook Air 13".  In that every one of my clients for the past 13 years have used PC machines will I encounter any compatibility problems with clients' PC A/V setups?

Ok, I solved the problem. Thanks to those who at least thought about replying.
For those having the same issue: I found the problem lies in the "hot plug detect" feature of dvi. What I did I just cut the hot plug pin (see wikipedia:dvi) off the dvi adaptor, isn't it clever? Hah, I wouldn't call it "plug 'n play", but at least it works. Then I connect the dvi to the g2400w and set the monitor "hdmi in", then detect displays from display settings, it'll detect it, and then simply i set the monitor to dvi in.

  • For the 2013 versions of macbook pro should I purchase 32 bit windows or 64 bit version to be able to install it on macbook and use windows with bootcamp?

for the 2013 versions of macbook pro should I purchase 32 bit windows or 64 bit version to be able to install it on macbook and use windows with bootcamp?

Then you might check at any of the other university book stores or software stores or any computer store in town for the 64-bit version.
If you want to use the 32-bit version from the school (you probably get it for free or very cheap) then you could purchase Parallels and run it as a virtual machine concurrently with OS X. There are some caveats:
    1. You have to purchase Parallels (there may be an academic discount.) List is $79.95.
    2. Your computer needs minimally 4 GBs of RAM, but realistically 8 GBs would be better.
    3. Parallels creates a pseudo-drive on your hard drive. It could easily require 50 GBs of disk space.
Accommodating these might be more costly than buying 64-bit Windows 7. And, if you look online you may find them with an academic discount (or may be able to order it through the school.)

What are the requirements for TDM?
A Mac notebook or desktop with a Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt connection
A Thunderbolt or Mini DisplayPort cable

If your MacBook shipped with an install disc you'll have to use that. If it didn't you should be able to use Internet Recovery OS X: About OS X Recovery

  • HT204492 If you're using the paired remote and the Apple TV status light flashes white, the problem isn't with the remote.

If you’re using the paired remote and the Apple TV status light flashes white, the problem isn’t with the remote.
Then what is the problem since I have troubleshoot my remote, it is working but cannot do anything on apple TV?

If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

  • Using Mac OS X and external harddrives

I was wondering if there is anyway to allow Mac OS X to copy/edit files on a Windows-Formatted external harddrive because I want to use the harddrive with both Windows and Mac OS X on my MacBook Pro and use Mac OS X for Itunes, Movies, etc., and Windows as well. If there is no way to do this, is there a way to format the drive so it can be compatible with both Mac OS X and Windows XP/Vista?

You need to format the drive as FAT in order to use it with Windows and Mac. On the Mac side, you can use Disk Utility to format the drive as MS-Dos File System (this is FAT).
    Hope this helps =)

  • Used MacBook with no install discs...

I just bought a used MacBook with no install discs for the OS.
I would like to know what my options are for getting the OS.
How much am I going to have to spend to follow the guidlines and EULA?
    Thanks

If you don't have your install disks you can get the two gray install disks by callingApple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 They can send them to you for about $16 per disk plus S & H. Just give them your serial number and they'll know which ones you need. With the original disks you also get the iLife that was current when your MacBook was bought included on the #2 disk.
Or you can get Snow Leopard for $29 if you have at least 1gb of RAM and a working DVD drive.  http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
If you only want iPhoto or other single apps from iLife '11 and iWork '09 you can get them from the App Store after you've upgradedto 10.6.6. iPhoto, iMovie or Garage Band for $15 each and Pages, Keynote or Numbers for $20 each.

  • Webcam on 2008 Mac Pro with Bootcamp and Windows 7.  Cannot get it to work.

Have windows 7 Professional on my mac, using Bootcamp
I cannot get any webcam to work.
So far, I have used ....
A Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro for Mac. No app can detect it.
A Logitech C510 Webcam (for PC) No app can detect it.
An Agama V-2025 Webcam (for both Mac & PC and supposedly no additional drivers needed). No app can detect it.
I called Logitech and they said as it was too complicated for them to support, (i.e. Windows on a mac with bootcamp) and so they couldn't help.
Any ideas would be most appreciated.
    Thanks.

Use bootcamp. I have been a loyal Adobe guy for 12+ years, but now that I have upgraded to mac...Adobe just sucks. I have not been able to finish a project yet do to the shabby CS4 media encoder.

Mountain Lion fails to install saying it cannot create the recovery; I had a similar problem with Lion and the Apple Store that helped me resolve it gave me an installable version of Mountain Lion on a flash drive for my inconvenience....is there some trick I am missing or do I need to make an appointment with a genius...

I have the MacIntosh volume and the Boot Camp partition only.  I know that when I installed Lion, I had to go through a whole back-up and recovery of Windows and then re-format the drive.
The tech at the Apple Store had a previous life as a MSCE and was very helpful.  I believe he even said that I should not have htis problem with Mountain Lion which is why they gave me the flash with it onboard.  I was in the process of starting a new job when I went to Lion, so I have waited to do this next and probably last upgrade to this old MBP since I doubt Apple will support this MBP in Maverick.
I do not have another installation, so that is not an option.  I will try to create an external, I have plenty of hard drives around and see if I can get it done that way.  It might take me a week or two to get back to it, but I will comment back upon completion of that effort.  Thanks for your help....Dave Iverson

Interesting.  Googling, I see that someone posted that on these discussions as well:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3331216?start=0&tstart=0
which mentions what I recall: that Airdrop (as implemented by Apple) would create an on-demand ad-hoc Wi-Fi connection, even if you were already connected to an access point.  Normally, you can't connect to multiple Wi-Fi networks, thus the reason for Airdrop only supported on newer Wi-Fi chips.
