Issues with accessing HD on Time Capsule

I have a Windows 7 32 bit machine that I just built. I have a Windows XP system and a Mac Book Pro running Snow leopard. My XP and Mac are able to access the HD of my Time Capsule. My Windows 7 is having issues logging into the Time Capsule HD. When trying to log into the base station using the Airport Base Station Utility I get a message stating "Unknown user, incorrect password, or login is disabled. Please retypre the login information or contact the disk's administrator (86)." I have the AirPort Utility installed on my Windows 7 and am able to log into the settings to modify the settings of the Time Capsule. Does anyone have any insight as to how to assist me?

Note: Mac 3 had a single user on it, my son. He was the admin. I created a new non-admin acct and moved all his stuff there (Not sure I did it the right way so it took a long time.). Now I am admin on that Mac. Not sure if that is relevant here (leading to the problem identified above) but thought I would mention it.
Thanks in advance for your help.
The fact that you cannot access the backup now only on this Mac does suggest this is part of the issue. Did you do this before or after the issue with access?
Permissions can be pretty tricky things.. certainly to do backups or to retrieve them from an existing backup created with different user permissions might be a mess.. Pondini is perhaps the only one who can tell you the ins and outs of that.
On the more general note.. lots of people are having issues with USB drive on the TC from Lion.. for many it stops working forever the moment the disk spins down from a reboot.. making it useless.
But it is dog slow for everyone.. The reality is USB is less than half its native speed on the TC cf on the computer.. and it wasn't that fast to begin with.
Plug the hard drive directly into the computer and mount the sparsebundle and see if the TM then can access it.. but you might need to use your admin login not your son's.
Personally if the TC disk is not big enough.. replace the TC with a larger disk version.. or the disk in the present one.. do not use disks hanging off TC. It has enough reliability issues without adding to them.

  • Resolving issues with ios7 connecting to time capsule?

We upgraded our iPhone 4s and 5 to ios7. Now, they are having really random but frequent issues connecting to the wifi provided y a newish time capsule. A first generation iPad now has the most reliable connection!  Although, frequently the speed is much less than was typical.
All was good before the OS upgrade and there have been no other changes in electronics in the house. We have only about three neighbors networks that infiltrate the house - at least visible ones.
I have tried taking the time capsule off auto channel select to no avail.
My best guess is our iPhone's are the cause of the network outages on the time capsule. Some form of interference or ??
Going to map my wifi coverage later this week ....  But I am betting that will tell me the coverage is generally good.
Anyone with similar issues?  Any thoughts on how to resolve?  Can't downgrade the iPhone software.

Look around the forums here.. there are heaps and heaps of issues with iOS 7.. it has caused more problems for wireless networking than any of the earlier ones.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/23279758#23279758
Works better with the TC in router than bridge mode.

I would ring apple support.. after all, they caused the problem.

  • Connectivity issue with iPhone 3GS and Time capsule 7.6.1

I've upgraded the firmware of my Time Capsule. Now i have WiFi connectivity problems with my iPhone 3GS. My iMac and two iPads (version 1 & 2) are doing fine.
Very strange in this situation is when I at a rare moments are able to connect my iphone to the wifi my iPad2 connection falls out. But after a minute or 2 the system disconnects my iphone and reconnect my ipad.
For info: I'm using an iMac 27" 3.4 Intel Core i7 with Mac OS 10.7.3 - all software is updated.
    Thanks for reaction
    Stephan

The iphone is very sensitive to channel selection..
Open the airport utility manual settings.. Go to the wireless.. change its name to something simple without spaces.. TC24 would do nicely.
Set the wireless to b/g a/n so it works with everything .. not auto.
And set the channels manually.. 2.4ghz (which iphone uses) set channel to either 1, 6, 11.. these are the only channels that do not overlap..
Try and see if the iphone connects..
Set security.. WPA2 personal and put in a suitable key.. pure alphanumeric no spaces.

  • Remote Access to a Time Capsule and Attached HD with Secure Communications.

I have a private network with a 500 GB Time Capsule at the center. I have a 1 TB USB external hard drive attached via the USB port on the back of the Time Capsule, and have perfect access to it as long as my Macbook Pro(2008) is on the network. My issue is I am away from home for multiple months at a time and would like to be able to access the Time Capsule and hard drive from a remote location via the internet without worrying about others being able to see my data. I have been able to use the Go>Connect to Server function in the finder with a password for the Time Capsule working to limit access. I am wondering how secure this is regarding the data as it passes over the network or if there are other ways i need to be encrypting the data. Thanks in advance.

When you say noone is providing a solution.. we have no idea who the noone is??
Did you read Tesserax document on remote access??
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3413
Tesserax is definitely someone.. and he has done a very good job of giving you 3 alternatives.. all of which work at least for some people.
If you have read that.. then please tell us what you have tried and what failed??
The issue most people have is not actually access to the TC .. it is the fact that you do not have a public static IP address. If you really want simple access to the TC it is dead easy.. buy a static IP from your ISP. Then you never have problems. Just directly access it using AFP (which does mean you have to do it from a Mac). Or buy a VPN router and put the TC in bridge behind it.. you still need a public IP that is static to make this simple and workable.
ISP deliberately use dynamic IP addresses to prevent you hosting servers.. The TC is a file server in this setup. They are trying to stop you doing this since part of requirements are you don't host servers on non-business accounts.
What we need to know if you run into trouble..
The exact network layout in your home? How is the TC configured. It must be main router with public IP on the WAN interface for BTMM to work.
Which method you are using.. please use Tesserax's numbered system?? His methods are pretty much in order of ease.. BTMM is the apple method to do it. Use this first and foremost.
And what device are you trying to use to access it from remotely??
You need to recognise here that Apple has made this easy for only one protocol.. AFP. No other protocol is fully supported other than by trickery.

  • Accessing data in time capsule

Can I access data from time capsule wirelessly using a smart tv or blu ray player? If not, can I access it with ethernet connection?

    No and No.
There are rare exceptions but mostly SMART TV isn't that smart.. it needs DLNA in the network device to find files.. TC of course supports no media extensions at all.. nothing.. zippo.. el zero or as you say.. null.
You need a player that can access raw files.. eg WD live TV can do it.. because it is a real Media Player. Not a streamer.

  • HT1766 How can I use my iPad,iPad Mini,iPhone to connect and access my Apple Time Capsule?

I have Apple Devices in my household and can only access my Apple Time Capsule from my MB Pro.
None of the others can. And as my family have more than the limit of Five Apple devices, is there some way Apple will allow us to connect to the family iTunes Account.
It seems to me that Apple are behind the way families and their products are used in an "Apple Family" household.
We are not a happy family at the moment !

Your statement is a bit confusing. Up to 10 devices can be associated with one Apple ID and no more than 5 can be computers, so Where you are getting the 5 device limit may be a misunderstanding about only 5 can be computers. So you can all connect to the family iTunes account.
As far as connecting to the TC, there is an app for that.

  • Can you add new AirPort Express Base Station Simultaneous dual-band 802.11n with a 1st Gen time capsule network

    Hi
Has anyone tried using the AirPort Express Base Station with a first generation Time Capsule and used it to extend their network, while still being able to use the Simultaneous dual-band 802.11n on their network?
    Thanks in advance

The first generation Time Capsule was not a simultaneous dual band device.
If you add the "new" AirPort Express to the network and configure it to "Extend a wireless network", it will extend the one single band signal that it is receiving from the Time Capsule.
In other words, the AirPort Express will not extend simultaneous dual bands in this type of setup...since it can only "extend" what it receives. You would need a simultaneous dual band Time Capsule if you want that type of functionality.

I've been having an issue with assistive touch, every time I open an app. the AT disappears the from the screen and I have to turn it off and ON again. Is there a way to fix this?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Kernel panic with wifi backup to Time Capsule

I have had no problem with wireless backup to Time Capsule until recently when I would consistently get a kernel panic during the backup. Is it a corrupt file? How would I isolate it? Or could it be a directory problem that DiskWarrior would fix? I can mount the backup image on my desktop OK.
I suppose I could erase my backup image on the Time Capsule, but I dont want to lose all that data. And if I did, what is the best way to archive that TIme Capsule backup image?
    Thanks for any help.

First, Repair your backups per #A5 in the Time Machine - Troubleshooting *User Tip,* also at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum.
If that doesn't help, here's a bunch of kernel panic info:
Apple Support - About kernel panic messages
Mac OS X Kernel Panic FAQ
The X Lab - Resolving Kernel Panics
Apple Developer - Technical Note TN2063: Understanding and Debugging Kernel Panics

If your backups are ok, erasing the drive probably won't help. But to "archive" the backups, see this Apple article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1281

  • Will Mountain Lion work with old models of Time Capsule?

I was using an online backup service but it slowed down my machine so I want to go to an external drive backup. I have upgraded to Mountain Lion and I am thinking of purchasing an older version of Time capsule for my backups. My question is will mountain lion work with older models of Time Capsule? thanks so much.....

Yes. I have a first generation Time Capsule and it works fine.
Just make sure you buy at least 3 times the GB you are trying to backup. More is better.

  • I have replaced my airport extreme with a new airport time capsule and want to know how I can set up my extreme to extend/strengthen my Wi-Fi?

I have replaced my airport extreme with a new airport time capsule and want to know how I can set up my extreme to extend/strengthen my Wi-Fi?

Start with a "hard reset" (see below) then use AirPort Utility to configure it.
When asked what you want to do with it, indicate that you want it to add to an existing network, similar to the following screenshot.
Follow the prompts that will eventually lead you to the words "wirelessly extend..." as shown.
To "hard reset" an AirPort Base Station: make sure it's powered up, then press and hold its tiny reset button and keep it depressed for five to ten seconds, long enough for its LED to flash amber rapidly. Release the reset button. Then, the LED will glow amber steadily for about a minute. Then, it will flash amber, slowly, about once every second or two, waiting for you to configure it with AirPort Utility.

  • Remote Access (internet) to Time Capsule Issue

    Hi and tnxs for reading,
after having tried a lot of suggestions on the internet about how to make TC file sharing working remotely, I am writing here because I am still looking for a solution!!
I have my TC bridged via ethernet to my DSL router (given from my internet provider).
I am using for all my devices TC WiFi, for local network and internet.
I activated Back to my mac on TC and to my Mac.
I can see my TC files when connected on my local WiFi, however, if I connect to the internet through another network, although I can see my Time Capsule on the left column of my finder, if I click on it, the connection fails.
Maybe it notoworthy to say that on System Preferences, iCloud, back to My Mac, I have a note saying that in order to improve the network, i should use use port mapping or upnp. Now, I cannot activate upnp on my router, but I can do port mapping, as i am doing for video surveillance stuff or similar things. However, I have tried to open ports suggested in http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4907 but nothing at all...
    Please, help!!!
PS: I would like to remotely connect to my airport devices through Airport Utility but it is not working aswell, and I think it is due to the same issue.
I'd really appreciate to be helped in this issue.

Sorry with time differences this is going to take a while.
I am going to need to work through some of the scenario myself.. my main concern is that BTMM may simply not work with the TC in bridge.
When people run into trouble.. eg here. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3699096?start=0&tstart=0
Alot of the problems come from the TC being in bridge. If you cannot get the TC to be the main router.. due to the kind of setup you have, then direct access method to the TC is the only way to do it.
    5) The main thing I'd like to do is to have access to my TC HD from the internet.
That gives you what you mainly want at point 5.. access to the TC HD.
    1) I rebooted my computer after turning of my BTMM on airport express. I kept on on my TC and in my iCloud Setting.
So the TC is now the only item that has BTMM set??
But no luck?? You didn't give me a result.
    2) The brand of my modem is ELSAG DATAMAT, model ARGO55+, provided by FASTWEB internet provider (I need it to have internet).
I will look this up. Appears to be ikanos based adsl modem. But all the details are in other languages.. so it is hard for me to get exact details. Does it have dyndns client available of some sort? As this is essential if you don't have a static public IP.
    3) the msg "Chk your router setting to improve speed NAT-UPNP" is on my mac, in iCloud BTMM setting, and I got it in all these cases: a) connected to TC WiFi bridged to my router with 548 TCP open b) Personal Hotspot iPhone 3) US Robotics with UPNP plug&play activated.
So this means that in every case even with the iphone as hotspot.. so this is completely different to your ADSL internet connection BTMM still fails?? There is not one single configuration that works.
Perhaps you need to ring your local Apple support and see if they can figure this out. To me.. a single computer.. plugged into a modem directly.. of whatever kind, adsl or 3G or whatever.. that gets a public IP should be able to do BTMM.. but could apple be blocked in your country.
The exercise I did via the direct connection is to prove there is no block by ISP to actually connect to the TC.. which you said worked.. but there can be other blocks.
It could fail if your ISP gives you a private IP address.. same btw for the adsl connection.
You will need to check by doing a traceroute to say Google DNS server, 8.8.8.8 and see if you are connected via a private IP.. you cannot access a LAN from a double NAT which results.
    4) if I am not supposed to do configurations through the net, what is the reason to have a back to my mac iCloud setting available on my Airport Express which has no hard drives and the only feature associated with BTMM is remote configuration?
If you get remote access to change a configuration.. and you make the slightest mistake.. you will not be able to access it again until you get home. So I am unsure what configuration changes to your local lan at home you need to make from remote location. Remembering that a single wrong move will lock you out permanently.
Can you please explain why you need this??

  • Issues Accessing VPN via Time Capsule

My work has a VPN (via Palo Alto's Global Protect) set-up to allow for remote desktop connections.  For some future projects, it is really important that I get this working.  However, I am running into an issue that is directly related to my Apple Time Capsule (an older "flat" model, part number MC343AM/A, running the latest firmware, v7.6.4).
Basically, I can access the VPN and remote desktop no problem if I connect my computer directly to the modem (or if I tether my computer to my phone).  However, if I connect the laptop to the router, then the VPN connects and is stable (as verified by my work's IT department), but I lose all other internet connectivity, and am unable to actually connect to the remote desktop.  This occurs if I use WiFi or connect through ethernet, and I've verified that it happens on two different computers (an iMac, and a MacBook Pro).
I'm wondering if it is because I use a MAC address filter to assign static IP addresses to the devices on my network?  Are there any other settings I should change on the Time Capsule to allow for the VPN passthrough?  Before I factory reset the router and lose all of my configurations (e.g., wifi security settings, etc), I was hoping someone might have run into a similar issue and would have some advice!
Any tips would be extremely appreciated.
    Best,
    Matt

Before I factory reset the router and lose all of my configurations (e.g., wifi security settings, etc),
We can fix that.. export your configuration.. The TC must be open in edit area for this option to work. So at least you don't need to lose settings.
7.6.4 has some real issues with ports.. That it establishes the vpn ok is good but it is clearly not able to pass some of the ports that are required. Are you able to ping or copy files at all over the tunnel??  it might be caused by a number of things. But you should realise that once the tunnel is open the computer is working on a different subnet.. and its own internal firewall can have issues.. or other issues at the other end.
I would have a try at taking the firmware back to 7.6.1 and even 7.5.2 can be a good test.. since it is before BTMM with iCloud where the TC would also complicate things with ipsec security.
To downgrade firmware simply hold down the option key while you click the version number.

  • Can'n access to my time capsule hard drive with my windows vista pc

    Hi there,
    I just bought a 2T time capsule.
Set up it is ok as my home network and works perfectly.
However i can't access it (reading or writing) with my windows vista pc, it asks me for a username and password.
how can I escape it and have direct access ?
    thx

Give it admin as username and public as the password unless you changed the default.
I recommend you load the airport utility for windows onto the vista pc. Bonjour helps windows to discover Apple network devices and access them.
You might also need to turn off firewall in the vista machine. At least make sure it is set to home, not work or public.
In the TC itself using SMB compatible names.. short, no spaces pure alphanumeric.
And on the file sharing page set guest account to read and write access.
