Issues with Bluetooth/Wireless Mighty Mouse since Snow Leopard Install
Hi,
I am having issues with my bluetooth wireless mighty mouse. It was fine after initially having installed Snow Leopard. However, in the past week it has become progressively more and more unresponsive. It functions perfectly normal for the first while after startup, then after a short period of time it becomes slow to respond to the mouse movements that move the cursor. Eventually it gets to the point that moving the mouse results in no cursor movement whatsoever. It also becomes unresponsive to squeezing the side buttons. There are no issues with clicking or scrolling with the track ball.
I have searched the discussion forums to find issues that pertain to "bluetooth" and "wireless mighty mouse" and have tried the following suggested remedies... Repairing my Mouse with my Mac mini. Renaming my mouse. Deleting the com.apple.Bluetooth.plist file from Macintosh HD\Library\Preferences and restarting my Mac. Reset PRAM and NVRAM. Also tried to install Bluetooth Firmware update 2.0.1 but I get an indication that the update is not needed on my Mac mini. I have also checked for software updates but there are none...
I am going to attempt resetting the SMC but am doubtful that this will help...
Can anyone help... Please... ?
Thanks,
Des
I had read in another forum where someone had an understanding that the bluetooth problem had something to do with Airport/Time Capsule. I had also read about how someone was having an issue with being unable to turn off airport. (I had this same problem.)
Upon deleting a few airport related plist files (see below url) I was able to turn off/on airport AND my Mouse issue has no longer appeared... everything is working a-ok now.

Wireless Mighty Mouse interference under Leopard
Hi.
I recently upgraded to Leopard and I'm experiencing interference with my Wireless Mighty Mouse since: the cursor starts jumping erratically. The thing is - this only happens when I'm doing *Java debugging in my Eclipse IDE*. For the rest of the time, it works pretty much OK (may still jitter on occasion).
I'm using TimeCapsule in 2.4 GHz, this caused some problems before I changed the default channel. I powered it down completely and I'm still getting the same interference. This is not due to heavy CPU load - in other cases of heavy CPU usage the mouse works fine. I also tried switching to a wired MS mouse or using the TrackPad and it works OK.
Any clues?
Thanks,
ZvikiThanks to the good people in java-dev mailing list, I found that it's spindump causing the slow-down. When the application hits a breakpoint it becomes non-responsive. The system decides it's time to activate spindump to dump the process information, in order to "report the problem".
This is totally wrong behavior. Spindump eats the CPU, making the mouse unresponsive. -
Bluetooth Wireless Mighty Mouse only detect one button click
I have had my Apple Bluetooth wireless Mighty Mouse for a little over a year and it has just recently began to only detect on button function, and cannot differentiate between left click, right click, or the scroll click.
It behaves slightly differently under different settings. When I have the scroll click set to do ANYTHING, any click on the mouse will do that respective action. When I have the scroll click turned off, and the left is set to primary and right is secondary, it will do the Primary action. When I have the left set to secondary, and the right set to primary, it will still do the Primary action.
I have looked all over the internet and have found very little help. The scroll wheel is fine so I don't really want to have to take it apart and glue it back together. Anybody know any tricks? Anything will help! Thanks!I found a partial fix over on this thread.
Basically, the fix is to install the shareware program USB Overdrive and set up the buttons via its control panel. Then uninstall it.
In my case, USB Overdrive brings my mouse back to normal operation, but when I uninstall it, my mouse goes back to acting like a one-button mouse.
For now, I'll keep USB Overdrive installed. Maybe I can bill Apple for the $20! -
Aperture Upgrade Issues (since Snow Leopard Install)
I upgraded the OS on my 2007 iMAC7,1 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz to Snow Leopard a couple of months ago. Afterwards, when I tried to start Aperture, I got a message that my version of Aperture (1.5.6) was not supported under the new OS.
So today, I went to the Apple store and bought an upgrade to Aperture 2. The upgrade version is 2.1.1. I installed this and when I start Aperture, the app appears to start, the "intro" white screen comes up with the version / serial number, etc, and then the Welcome Screen starts up.
No matter what I choose from the Welcome Screen (Usually I pick Start Using Aperture), the SW appears to be stuck. The welcome screen disappears as expected, and the command bar across the top of the screen appears, but that's it - the normal aperture screen that shows your projects, etc. never comes up. Most of the commands in the sub-menus on the command bar are grayed out.
To make matters worse, when I try to quit, nothing happens. No message, no nothing, it just sits there. I have to do the Option-Cmd-Esc sequence and kill Aperture.
I checked for SW update and updated everything that was available (OS and Aperture to 2.1.4), rebooted, etc. However, there was no change in behavior.
Everything else on this machine works fine, no other issues or even behavior changes in my machine. The only problem is with Aperture.
To summarize: Aperture 1.5.6 quit working after I installed Snow Leopard. I bought the Aperture upgrade and installed, which allows me to start Aperture but doesn't let me do anything further.
Has anyone else seen an issue like this? Any suggestions for what may be wrong?
Thanks. You may want to try rebuilding the library or doing a consistency check. Hold command-option when you launch Aperture and choose the relevant options.
Note that Aperture 2.x will have to upgrade the library from 1.x to run. You should get a dialog box to kick this off (and it does take some time), but it sounds like you haven't even gotten that far.
You do need to be running Aperture 2.1.4 on Snow Leopard, but from your description it sounds like you're already on that version. -
Lion OSX major network issue with MacBook but cannot restore from Snow Leopard disk - help!
I have a network with an airport extreme with two expresses and a time capsule extending the network. The network has a Mac, apple TV and two iphones which all connect absolutely fine. The macbook did too, until I upgraded to 7.6.1 on the airports. I took the airports back to 7.6 but the Mac simply isn't speaking properly to my extreme. It drops, speeds up, slows down and works differently in different part of the house.
Been to Genius who said, macbook is fine, try either a completely fresh install on the mac, or reset the network. The reset of the network hasn't worked, so I wanted to reinstall snow leopard then lion on my mac. Put the disk in, and it came up with the error can't install the Mac OSX from the install Mac OSX disc. I have therefore tried the original leopard disks, which simply restart, chime and restart (continuously).
I need some help as this is my work computer and I don't seem to be able to get any help from anyone.
So I need to know the following:
1) Has anyone got any other solutions for the extreme problem (have tried dragging out the preferences but that didn't work either);
2) How do you reinstall an OS from the disk - as this in particular is a nightmare.
3) Anyone able to suggest a work round??
Would be very grateful for assistance.
ThanksHello ddownn and welcome to Apple Support Communities,
Firstly it will help us diagnose your problem to know the exact model, size, year built, RAM installed and OS you're running. That would include the OS and particulars about the Mac Pro.
"this system doesn't beep three times."
The normal diagnosis for that is RAM problems.
"I am able to complete the installation by using the DVD in my Mac Pro in Target Disk Mode with a FireWire cable"
But that shouldn't work because the install (build) would be particular to the Mac Pro.
"I recently installed a new HDD and formatted it from a Mac Pro via Target Disk Mode."
Partitioned to GUID?
"disk spins up and stops about three times, then ejects and a folder icon with a question mark appears"
These DVD drives in these old laptops can often go bad. Try this:

Aperture PS CS3/4 Aperture, not working since Snow Leopard install...
Since installing Snow Leopard today I have been unable to export/edit from Aperture to Photoshop CS3/4 and back again!!!
I have tried it with both CS3 and CS4 as I have both installed. Aperture corrupts the thumbnail on export to both apps, they then open the file in both versions of PS but when you go to save after editing you get a message saying the file is open and you can't save it!!!
It seems to me it's an obvious Snow Leopard issue as it worked perfectly before I upgraded but now I am screwed for editing until a fix is sorted, any suggestions???I am not having that problem. I can edit with CS4 an image that was previously edited with CS4 and also one that was not previously edited at all.
Did you upgrade Aperture to 2.1.4 before Snow ? -
MacBook will not sleep automatically since Snow Leopard install
Hello. I am having a serious issue with my MacBook since upgrading to Mac OS X Snow Leopard. My MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, 2.4 GHz) will not go to sleep automatically anymore. If I select "Sleep" from the Apple menu it will sleep fine. However, it will not sleep according to my Energy Saver preference pane which says sleep at 1 min each (Display and Computer). Another thing to keep in mind is that my display sleeps perfectly normally. However, the computer itself will not sleep.
Here are the things that I have tried so far:
- Reinstall 10.6.2 combo updater
- Remove Energy Saver preferences and entire System Configuration folder
- Made sure that no hardware or software is interrupting sleep
- Reset PRAM and SMC
I am running Mac OS X 10.6.2 with ALL updates and firmware installed.
Please help me figure this out as it is a serious issue. Thanks.

SOLUTION FOR GMAIL:
Apple mail automatically configures gmail in Snow Leopard and enters your username as [email protected] for the outgoing mail server.
Correcting your username in the OUTGOING mail server (by selecting edit outgoing server list) to be only "username" by removing "@gmail.com" fixes this issue.
Go Daddy accounts are still a problem... working on that now...
No - I'm afraid that didn't work for me. My SMTP settings for GMAIL include only my username/password and the recommended port for outgoing GMAIL SMTP (993) / USE SSL. Whenever I try and send a message, it hangs in the Outbox, and the spinning wheel spins in "Sent". This is only since upgrading to SL. Am about to get on the phone with Apple Care because this is really getting to be a PITA. I've never had a problem using my Gmail SMTP account in Mail before this upgrade.
OK - I seem to have fixed it on my end. Try this:
The default setup in the new Mail.app (4.0) wants to place SMTP for GMAIL on port 993. Change the selection from "Custom Port" to the default - i.e. "25, 465, 587". I know there are posts above that say the preferred port for SMTP is 993, +but see+ http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=78799. The SMPT settings clearly state which ports to use (465 or 587). When I selected the default option check box in the advanced SMTP settings in Mail, Voila! Sent Mail! Hope this helps you get your outgoing mail out. -
Epson RX595 will not print since Snow Leopard install
I cannot get my trusty Epson to print since installing Snow Leopard and latest printer drivers.
I can scan. Just cannot print.
I have looked at some troubleshooting support articles. Does anyone have a good link, tip?
Thanks in advance for any help with this!Try deleting the printer, the <hard drive>/Library/Printers/EPSON folder and the /Library/Caches/Epson folder, and then reinstalling the drivers using Software Update. Then add the printer, making sure that you are using the Epson driver, not the Gutenprint driver.

Issues with Adobe CS and Permissions in Snow Leopard
Me: Model: iMac7,1, BootROM IM71.007A.B03, 2 processors, Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.4 GHz, 3 GB, SMC 1.21f4
Running Mac OS X 10.6.8 (I know time to upgrade)
Also related to this I'm using Adobe Creative Suite 5 (Indesign 7)
So it started a couple of days ago when I noticed my external HD was locked on my home computer...Firefox can't update and then Photoshop tells me it can't save preferences and InDesign tells me it can't open (unexpectedly quits when opening). Uh oh.
I've used Adobe Cleaner to try and solve the issue along with multiple uninstalls/installs of Adobe Creative Suite. And so I've narrowed this down to a permissions issue (I believe it happened when I was trying to share my external HD to our Boxee).
I downloaded Batchmod to see if that would work and i managed to unlock the external HD but no luck yet for Adobe CS. I tried unlocking all the preferences in user/library/preferences and that worked (still locked but not grayed out) but user/applications and manged is still grayed out with custom access. And I'm sure there's other folders hiding that need to be unlocked.
Is there a blanket command for terminal to unlock everything? I know using * in Terminal could work but where do I start?Crash report from Indesign if it helps:

Clipboard issue with Word and Flash CS4 in Snow Leopard
I use Flash CS4/word 2008 on a regular basis and copy text from word into flash. Since I upgraded to SL, I no longer can paste text into Flash. This is a major productivity killer for me. Are there any global clipboard settings?
That indicates corruption or a conflict within the old account, usually with preference (plist) files. Make a list of the preference files inside the /new user/Library/Preferences/ folder, log back into the old account, move the ones on your list to a folder on the desktop, log out and back in, and see if the behavior is fixed. If so, create another folder on the Desktop, copy the new ones to that folder, and slowly replace a few new ones in /old user/Library/Preferences/ with the same ones first moved, until you find which ones were causing the problem. Delete those and replace with their copies. The process is slow, but required.
Alternatively, you could log into the new one, delete the old one, *electing to save its data (creates a disk image in /Users/Deleted Users/)*, recreate the account, using the same username/password combo, log into it, mount the saved data image, and slowly transfer plist files from it to the recreated one, frequently logging out and back in until you find the bad files.
Good luck. -
Issue with Close/Minimise/Zoom Buttons in Snow Leopard
Dear All,
Hope you may be able to help me with a small but really annoying problem.
If I go to click on the "close" button on a window (can be any application) but, for instance, miss slightly and click on the grey area just below or to the side of it, and then click close, the window in fact minimises.
This is a reproducible behaviour but I can't for the life of me figure out why it's happening! I've repaired permissions and so on but to no avail.
The only thing I can think was that I upgraded my copy of Snow from a Snow beta rather than an erase and install - would this cause such behaviour?
Thanks

TC stuck at 99% calculating since Snow Leopard install
I initiate the backup as I've done in the past and all seems to go well until it gets to 99% of it calculating whatever it is it's looking at. Then it just sticks...for hours upon hours. It doesn't progress into the actual backup.
I've never had a problem with TC up to this point and was really excited when SL was supposed to increase the backup speed by 80%. At this point a backup period would be nice.I had the same problem - only it sat at 99% calculating changes for 30 minutes, then started backing up at about 1KB (yes KB!!!!!) per minute. Something is very wrong.

Wireless mighty mouse and Log In/Out
I have been having some issues with my wireless mighty mouse under Leopard. I have noticed that if I am logged in under one account and log out the mouse no longer will move on the screen. The "Right Click" functionality if available but the movement is not. I also have seen this behavior when logging out of an account and then logging into another account. I have tried disconnecting the mouse and then reconnecting it but that does not seem to solve the problem. The only work around is to log out using the keyboard and then log back in. I was wondering if anyone else has had any similar problems or knows of any solution to this.
ThanksI have noticed that if you log in/out with the mouse then I do not have the problem. But If I use the keyboard shortcuts to log in/out then the issue occurs. Possible bug?

Wireless Mighty Mouse Right Button does not work well
Recently I bought in Online Apple Store a Wireless Mighty Mouse.
I installed the drivers that came in the CD, and, I defined in the System Preferences the second button of the mouse (the Right Button) to function as the Secondary Button.
But after the computer going to sleep and I wakes it up, or I stop a little to work with the Mouse, or then without none apparent reason, the Right Button behaves as the Left Button, like if it had one and only button in the Mouse.
To solve the problem I have to disconnect the mouse and/or the bluetooth connection, so that the Right Button functions again as I defined it in the System Preferences like a Secondary Button. But I think that is not the solution for who needs a mouse to work.
Therefore, I thank you a solution to solve this problem.
Sincerely,
Paulo
The computers where I worked with this Wireless Mighty Mouse and where I had this problem was:
- a PowerBook 12", 1.5GHz
- and a MacBook Pro 15", 1.83GHz
- both with MacOS 10.4.8
(Sorry for my bad english)There are a few threads going describing this problem Discussions. (E.g., check out this one.)
It appears that there's probably a hardware QC issue with some fraction of the wireless Mighty Mice. Replacing the bad mouse -- either at a local Apple Store or via AppleCare online -- is what I'd suggest. (That's what I ended up doing and the replacement mouse has been fine.)
