Issues with connecting 2 displays to a macbook air/pro

We all use MacBooks in the office and if we can connect 2 monitors to each macbook; we can be a lot more productive.
Tried connecting via Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter which connects to the 1st monitor and we tried VGA to the second and it didn't work. Staples recommended a HDMI splitter, another place said splitter won't work and need a HDMI switch with multiple ports.
Thanks in advance
AB

Unfortunately we are already using WPA (which my MacBook Pro has no problems with), so nothing to change there.
Interestingly we have just called up Apple to see if they have any ideas for a quick fix, and they suggested wiring it up, which should somehow fix the wireless aspect of it as well. So after carefully moving the iMac and stringing some wires into fairly dangerous positions, it is now wired up. However, upon disconnecting the wire it worked for all of thirty seconds wirelessly before cutting out again. However, I do recall in my mind something about connecting a Mac via a wire first and then fiddling with something to help it work wirelessly? I don't know what that is though, so suggestions are appreciated.
In the very short term connecting it via a wire works, but really a solution needs to be found asap. If the wireless issue can't be sorted I expect I will have to invest in a very long ethernet cable and run it from the router to the iMac, which whilst obviously not ideal is certainly possible.

  • HT3131 In terms of cooling, is it OK to use demanding applications for extended periods with the internal display of my MacBook Air closed?

I'm using a Thunderbolt display when in the office and often run one or two Parallels VMs concurrently, which makes the fans spin a lot. I'm worried that the 13" 2011 MacBook Air isn't being cooled enough with the lid closed so I tend to open it up - am I just being paranoid?

The cooling of the MacBook Air is accomplished via an internal fan which draws in and exhausts air in the rear gap area below the hinge. This gap remains unimpeded whether the computer is open or closed. In fact, Apple has specifically designed the notebook to operate in a "normal" open screen configuration, as well as a closed (clamshell) mode. As long as you retain an adequate clearance and allowance for clean cool airflow at the rear of the Air, there is no recognized issue of whether the unit will adequately cool.
This does not preclude that the user can also "enhance" cooling with external conduction cooling devices designed to extract heat from the heat conductive aluminum case But in normal circumstances it is not required, nor even mentioned by Apple that it is necessary to do so. In fact, Apple even sells a stand for operating the MBA in a closed, vertical position for space savings. This does in face preclude use of a cooling pad, and still it is not a problem.
While there may be those who observe that the open case affords more surface area for direct case to atmosphere heat transfer, one must also recognize that this is probably more than offset by the fact that the device does not generate extra heat supporting a operting and lit display when closed.

  • Connecting 30" display to 2013 Macbook Air

Is it possible to get full 2560x1600 resolution out of 30" DELL U3014 by connecting to June-2013 Macbook Air? If yes, at what refresh rate, and what adapter should I use for this?

Use a Mini DisplayPort cable. No adapters are needed.

HI. I've got an issue with Pages running on Mavericks. Everytime I open it up it just hangs right there and I can't do anything with it. I've deleted the app and installed it back again but the problem sitll persists. Any help please?

Thank you so much for helping,
But i really wonder how you did that. did you always switch between design view and preview view, then change the key position for 2px then switch back, to align the four letters? because i imagine that can get really frustrating, if you have a logo consisting of 58 parts instead of 4!:)
Anyway thank you very much for your time and effort!!!!

  • I'm having issues with connecting my iPhone 4 to iTunes?

    Here's some information:
    Apple product: iPhone 4
Computer: Windows 8 (originally) to Windows 8.1 (upgraded version)
Okay, I'm having issues with connecting my iPhone 4 to iTunes. I've connected it via U.S.B. and now everything's not working right the 10th time. Am I to redownload the iTunes software once again or will I never be able to add music anymore?

    Close any open applications.
Click the Apple icon top left of the screen.
Select the bottom option in the cascading menu: Log Out (your user name).
    Log in a Guest.
This will dertermine if there is a problem with your Admin account.

  • Can I connect a monitor with built in speakers to my macbook air?

Can I connect a monitor with built-in speakers to my macbook air?  What would you suggest in the 22" - 24" size for everyday use?

If you say that there is built in speakers. Most probably the connection is HDMi. You will need an adapter to connect the MacBook Air to the monitor through HDMI, at the same time, the adapter needs to support video and AUDIO.

I have contacted apple via email and tried all the steps they have recommended and it is still not working.
I have tried disabling my McAfee and that does not work either.
Anyone that the phone number to apple express so I don't have to keep waiting for them to email within 48 hours?
    Thanks.

With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:

  • Sudden Issue with 23-inch displays?!

My 23-inch display went kaputz yesterday. It's interesting that today for the first time ever, I've come to these forums, hoping for an answer. How in the world can it be that suddenly this August, all of these 23-inchers are on the fritz?
    What's up, Apple?!
(thank God for my old 22-inch display. I replugged it in and it's running like a charm.)

Several of us have expressed frustration with Apple's lack of response to this problem (which they obviously know about by now, and if they don't, there is no excuse), and the lack of a way to register any complaint beyond the level of your individual AppleCare person. Not knowing where else to turn, I sent an e-mail to the director of Mac PR, and the PR manager for Mac hardware, whose addresses are among the few on the Apple site (see site map).
As evidence that this is not just one person complaining but a true potential PR problem, I asked them to read this discussion and three others on the same issue: "Display not always turning on", "23" display not turning on problem", "Sudden issue with 23-inch displays", "23" cinema display -- bad adapter".
    I summarized the complaints as:
    1. Power adapters seem to be o failing in large numbers at the same time.
    2. Many people are waiting for replacement power adapters through Apple Care, and they are not being shipped as promised.
    3. Frustration with Apple's failure to step up to the plate and address this problem.
I asked for a response. So far, two days later, not even an acknowledgement from either one that they received my e-mail.
Maybe if they hear from more of us, they will see that, yes, this is a PR issue!

If i I bought Apple tv and plugged it into my tv, could i then use that tv as a display for my macbook air as if my tv were a mac display?
I have a macbook air but I dont want to buy a whole new display for it which is why i want to use my tv.
I do however want to purchase AppleTv
I am currently running snow leopard, but will update in a heartbeat to lion if needed.

Connect the Macbook directly through the TV using a Mini Display Port to HDMI ('With Audio' if needed).

  • LCD Display exchanged on Macbook Air 11,6" Late 2010

    Hi guys,
I just replaced the broken LCD display of my Macbook Air. It worked out quite well, apart from the fact that I accidentally scratched the white plastic film that's located right behind the LCD panel itself. I think this is kind of a light filter as there's now more light coming through the scratched spots.
Do you guys know how could I fix this issue? Can I order that plastic film somewhere?
    Thanks in advance,
    shamy

You replaced the panel or the whole assembly?
I'm not aware of any place that sells the plastic film separately as it comes with the panel. That being said if you reach out to places like PowerBook Medic, iFixit, FixAppleNow and/or iResQ they might be able to assist you with replacement options as they're the "Big 5" vendors that I've used for DIY service parts in the past.

I have asked the Hosts to move it to Snow Leopard  (you should not lose contact with it through any email links you get)
I also don't do Wirelss printing so I can't actaully help either.

I just downloaded Adobe XI onto my macbook air and now I cannot save or print any PDF files. Will not let me do Print-Save as PDF, and if i do Save as i get a message saying that the file is corrupted. I had NO PROBLEMS at all doing this many times until i downloaded the new version. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, to no avail. I am super frustrated.
Print>Save as PDF - uses Preview (part of OS X), so Adobe Reader should have no effect on that at all.
As to the "damaged file" error, simply uninstalling the Reader app won't affect it. Do the following:
    Mac HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins
Trash the AdobePDFViewer.plugin and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin files
    Mac HD/Applications
    Trash the Adobe Reader app
    [user]/Library/Preferences
    Trash the com.adobe.Reader.plist file
To access the [user]/Library, hold the "Option" key and click "Go" from the FInder menu.
    Mac HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe
Trash the Reader folder (the whole folder)
    Empty the Trash.
Download the FULL installer here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
Quit your browser and reinstall Reader.
Launch it from the Applications folder and accept the license agreement.
You should have no problems downloading PDFs with Safari.
Unfortunately, ANY PDF that says it's damaged.... is. You'll have to trash them.

  • My iPhone 3GS no longer connects through Bluetooth to my MacBook Air, nor my BMW X3.  Is this fixable?

My iPhone 3GS no longer connects through Bluetooth to my MacBook Air nor my BMW X3.   I've made no recent adjustments, it's just stopped functioning.   Any ideas?   Can this be fixed, or is my iPhone on the way out?

Problem solved!! I finally managed to pair the SE HCB-100 car kit speakerphone with the 3GS. I surfed the SE web site and it mentioned resetting the speakerphone. Tried it on 'one color ID' but it didn't work so I did it on all 'color IDs' and left it on reset mode when it 'accidentally' was picked up by my 3GS while searching!!! Found 'headset' and then recognised it as HCB-100. One happy guy for the holidays!!!

Can i install windows 7 via bootcamp (on my MB Air) while using remote disc? I put the windows 7 disk in my macbook pro drive, and connect to my brand new macbook air via remote disk. In bootcamp (on my air) i allocate the partition, then i click install, and bootcamp will not see the disk from my macbook pro's drive. How do i get the bootcamp assistant running on my MB air to automatically find the disk in my macbook pro with the ISO image of windows 7? The remote disk on my air can find the cd but bootcamp will not begin installing it. Anyway to do this without buying the damned usb drive?

I don't know first hand if you can use the Remote Disk option with Windows but as of 10.7.2 you can now use BCAssistant to make a bootable USB (thumb drive or external disk) W7 installer with the Boot Camp drivers installed also. Have you tried that yet?
