Issues with Mac OS X Leopard installation disk

Hi, I have recently sent in my macbook to replace its hard drive under apple care and I noticed that my macbook fails to recognize the install disk that came along with the macbook when I first purchased. When the disk is inserted, it is automatically rejected after a few minutes. Please help. Thanks.

  • P2P connection drop issue with MAC 10.5 Leopard

I have P2P application which connects to FMS Server hosting with influxis.com using RTMFP protocol . The application works just fine with all other OS except  older MAC 10.5 Leopard with flash player 10.3 installed.
The problem is that p2p chat, audio and video does not transmit and connection is dropped after around 50 seconds. Its same with different Computers with above mentioned OS and configuration.

It happening only on MAC 10.5 with flash player 10.3 but happens never on newer MAC or Windows PC with any browser or flash player . So it seems a old MAC specific bug.
The same issue occurs with the (Cirrus sample application ) by adobe using rtmfp at this link

  • 3 issues with Mac Mail on Leopard...

We just bought a NEW Imac at work, but my email doesn't work correctly. The first issue is that I get no New email sound at all. I need this at to work.
Second thing is when I attach a file and send it to a PC, it embeds its and instead of attaching it. I attach by dragging and dropping it into the email. I had no problem doing this on my old IMac and mail program. It does work correctly if I actually go and locate the file and attach it, but this takes a lot long to do than just dragging and dropping. I do have "Window Friendly Attachments" checked, but it just won't work the way it did before.
The third thing is that my IN box says I have 6 new emails, but nothing is there. I can't get rid of it. It is driving me crazy.
    Please help!!!!!

    Hello kgoody,
I have not been able to use my mac mail for 2 months now because of the server issue. "Try later" or "Try with selected server " were at the beginning of this nightmare. Since then I have not received a single email in the inbox. I downloaded an article "How to use Gmail with Apple's Mail" by Stephen Korecky and tried to fix the problem. It did not work because the Apple Mail windows did not show what they were supposed to. I called my software wizard and he said he will have to come and fix it. He did not show up yet. It is very frustrating.

Are there compatibility issues with Mac OSX Leopard V. 10.5 and Word 2004 11.6.3 when installed on a PowerMac G5? I understand the Leopard upgrade is okay on the later Intel Mac, but what about my G5 PowerPC Mac?

I do not use Microsoft Excel much but when i do use it it works fine on my G5. my powerbook has excel to but sometimes freezes on the powerbook. but not the G5 so give it a try you can always uninstall it if it does not work good

  • Snow Leopard Installation Disk Ejects - won't install

A brand new Snow Leopard Installation disk would not be read in a MacBook Pro 15" so I just thought I'd share my solution.
This installation disk was readable on every Mac that I tried except the one that I wanted to install Snow Leopard onto, which, by the way, could read other CDs and DVDs.
I ran TechTool just to eliminate any problem it may be able to handle.
The solution was to clean the DVD with a little dish soap and water and to blot it dry with a lint-free cloth. Once I was sure that the disk was totally dry I attempted the installation again and it worked.

Hans, will that Pioneer cause problems with this Tiger app? One comment I read on one forum said that non-Apple disk drives have to be disabled to run Tiger, so I wonder if that would solve this problem. I appreciate all the time you've given me to help solve this problem. Like most projects, a lot more is involved that appears at first.

Yes you will need to install the apple drivers for win vista. When you boot from a cold start, have you tried holding down the option key to choose which OS to boot from? If you have then, you could try going into startup options from the mac side and choose win vista if it appears. That could be risky though, as you mentioned you do not have the mac install disk. If problems arise you may need the mac install disk to undo the changes.

  • Disk Utility: cannot Repair Permissions, even on Leopard  installation disk

After reinstall of iLife '08 and Software Update completed, I ran Repair Disk Permissions. Got an immediate red note "error: The underlying task reported failure on exit (sic)." with a flag: "First Aid failed. Disk Utility stopped repairing permissions on 'Mac HD...' because the following error was encountered: The underlying task reported failure on exit."
I went to my Leopard Installation disk and ran "Repair Disk." No problem found. From the Installation disk, ran Repair Disk Permissions. got the same RED INK comments and flag, First Aid failed.
Restarts don't help. Also, so far I have not found an application which is NOT working despite this Disk Utility problem, happy to report ;-))
Additional background. I was reinstalling iLife to fix iPhoto after a clean reinstallation of Leopard and reincorporation of files and apps vis Time Machine. It had been several weeks and iPhoto appeared to be the only app which was not quite right.

Disk Repair can trigger "underlying task" but I've never heard or seen a Permissions Repair do so.
You should never use the DVD to repair permissions. You should be using the same OS version. And of course you can always repair permissions from your boot drive; or from backup/clone or alternate "emergency" drive. Otherwise, the DVD and older version of DU will be wrong.
I know I read that on MacFixit, but I am not sure I bookmarked it.
Don't rely on Apple First Aid, even a clean bill of health doesn't mean there aren't problems which Disk Warrior can deal with.

  • How can I create a disk image of snow leopard installer disk from my Imac which runs it?

how can I create a disk image of snow leopard installer disk from my Imac which runs it? It came without DVD installer, and I want to make a copy of it's OS installer but can't find out how.

You need to have the disc in order to create disk image of snow leopard installer disc. What did your machine ship with? If something later than SL, then why? If earlier, then you can buy the SL installer disc and make the disk image.

I want to install Snow Leopard Server on our MacPro(2.66) using Mac Mini Snow Leopard Server disks?  I kept getting an error for backwards compatibility.   Is this possible or do I need topurchase another copy of Snow Leopard Server?

The OS disks that are shipped with a particular product
are set up so that tey will only install on that product.
It will install on any Mini of that exact vintage, but that
    is all.
This is to prevent people from doing exactly what you
are trying to do.  The license for OSX shipped with any
is only valid for that product.  Also, Snow Leopard,
including Server, is only permitted to be run on one
computer at a time.  Bottom line, unlike Lion, legally
you cannot install the same copy on multiple
computers unless some "family pack" or site license
    is purchased.
Yes, you need to purchase another copy.
The copy of Snow Leopard license is here:

Sounds like OS X is corrupt. Best thing to do is reinstall.
You may have to contact the company that put together your Modbook so they can help with getting the touchscreen working again.
Csound 1 - a Modbook is a MacBook that has been rebuilt with a touchscreen display in place of the original. It's the same form factor as an older touchscreen tablet PC.

Your iMac needs to be a mid-2007 or newer model. See this page for specs supported, and assuming you meet them, you can upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion (see step 2 on the linked page).

This computer has had some previous Photoshop versions migrated to it over the years (Photoshop 4.0 for OS 9, and Photoshop 7.0).  Photoshop 7.0 stopped working after I upgraded the OS from Tiger to Snow Leopard, and I no longer have the disks or serial number so that is why I'm trying install PSE 10.  Could these old versions (which I tried to delete, but did not have a specific uninstall version for) be a source of this issue?  If so, is there a way to make sure they're all gone?
    Thanks

  • Permission/Privilege Issues With Mac OS Lion

I created a new user account after I installed Lion, transferred my files over, and now I'm having issues with my account. I don't know if permissions and privilages are responsible for the issues, but seemingly so. I also have to mention that when I was changing over user accounts, I ended up wanting to change the short names on both my old and new accounts, so I used the root user to do so. Here are some problems I've been experiencing:
    - When I open system preferences, it always opens up to the General pane. No matter what.
    - After restarting, certain windows that I had open at a certain time keep opening up, no matter if I closed them out and had completely new windows open.
    - Preferences in certain applications will not save. Audacity opens up each time I start my computer, there is a tick box for show this screen when starting Audacity, I untick it, but it still opens up each time. Photoshop gives me a message that my preferences can't be saved because I don't have the right privilages. Textedit keeps opening up to a certain file I had open a couple of days ago, and when I try to save a new document, it gives me an error. Safari only remembers history from a couple of days ago. And when I try to reset Safari, and reopen it, the same old history is displayed.
    - When I try to move files to my desktop or to the Trash, I have to authenticate it.
I tried Repairing the disk, repairing permissions, inserting my Mac os leopard disk and doing the same, and using the Reset Password utility on the Mac os installation disk to repair permissions to my home folder, but nothing is working.

Hi everyone, I have found a solution. This worked for me:
    1) Create a new user account. Make sure it has a desireable name, otherwise you're going to want to change it later, and that will cause permission issues. (check if preferences are saving in this temporary new account, if not, I can't help you.)
    2) Transfer all the files you want to keep by putting them in the SHARED folder.
    3) Change permissions to the folders and files in your shared folder by right clicking and clicking on GET INFO. Then go to the very bottom of the popup menu and unlock the picture of the lock. Next change permissions so that your new account will have permission to view the files. You might have to add your new account to the list by pressing the plus button, or simply allow staff the read and right, or just let everyone read and right. Next click on the gear menu (the one with the little gear on it.) and click on APPLY TO ENCLOSED ITEMS.
    4) Go to your new user account and take the things in the shared folder and put them where you had them in your older account.
Now you have a new user with the files you want, the permissions right, and preferences will save!
I really really really hope this works for you. I know how extremely frustrating it was. It worked for me, and I am so relieved now.

  • Mac Mini Snow Leopard Installs ok, but reboot just hangs

I've just attempted to install SL as an upgrade from OSX 10.5.8. The installation (though tedious) worked ok. However, when it attempted to auto reboot after Installation Successful, it got to the Apple logo, and just hung there.
Needless to say, I was doing this last night, after Apple support had closed... So I tried to resolve it myself...
It sounded as if it was still occasionally trying to read the cd, so initially I thought there was some issue with the installation cd. Naturally I could not eject that. I tried multiple ways of reboot to eject the disk, all to no avail (space bar, mouse button, and pretty much every combination of keys to get into open firmware, even resetting ram), and eventually I forced it to boot up off the instal disk, which worked ok, then restored the system from a Time Machine backup. That all went ok. So, I'm now back with my original working system...
So, anyone got any idea why the install worked, but the auto-reboot failed? I don't have much non-Apple stuff installed - only 1Password in fact - and otherwise the OS and environment is as bought from the retailer.
    Any suggestions appreciated Cheers, Pete.
