Issues with Macbook Pro display.

Hi. Recently, I haven't been having too much luck with Apple products. It started with my Macbook pro Core 2 duo 2.16. It had screen issues, leading to the screen being replaced (replacement screen contained several dead pixels), alongside a logic board, video card, and sound board replacement over the short life of the computer. Apple recently replaced it with a new 2.4 GHz Macbook Pro.
When I first turned it on, only 3 bottom pads made contact with my desk at all, causing the computer to become lob-sided. I brought it to the Apple store and they brought it to their back room to fix it (I am not sure about what they did to it though). The fix was mostly successful and brought the computer "within spec"... Shortly after the fix, I got home and my monitor started acting up by displaying black vertical bars along my screen. The left side of my screen was also disconnected from the aluminum frame; both issues can be seen at http://gallery.mac.com/eliete#100037 . The odd thing is that the issue only comes up every other time I use the computer, and closing-opening the clamshell usually cures the problem temporarily. I discovered that whenever I take a picture in Photo-booth, the screen flash aggravates the problem, making the issue very obvious, and obtrusive.
I do a lot of photography work with Aperture 2 and Photoshop Elements 6, and performance wise, the computer is fantastic, but what good is a fast computer with an awful screen? I do not want to switch back to the PC platform because the Mac OS is just that much better, and I rely on this computer for many everyday tasks. What do you think I should do? - I would rather not have the screen replaced due to the possibility of dead pixels (VERY irritating when editing photos), but it looks like that may be the only option. Do you think that I should wait until the WWDC to see what update the MBP will see, incase they replace my computer a second time? Thank You in advance.

First thing I'd to is take it to the Apple Store, you can talk with them about this. I'm sorry you have been having so much trouble, while Macs are good in general there are some lemons. I bought my current MacBook Pro in August. Within a few weeks of buying it, there were a handful of dead pixels on the display as well as a couple of pale spots (bruises that the Apple store said was my fault). I got the display (the entire top 1/2...display, iSight, etc.) replaced over Labor Day weekend and haven't had a dead pixel or blemish since then. If you wait until WWDC, there are two things to consider: 1) you will have the problem for a few more weeks, and 2) replacements may be refurbished laptops and not necessarily a new laptop. Why bother? If I were you, I'd take it in ASAP and see what options I'm given. If the screen is repaired and dead pixels arise, the screen can be replaced again. What's worse, the possibility of dead pixels, or putting up with the bad display for another month (or two...Apple has a history of introducing things at MacWorld and WWDC that aren't available until the following month)? Hope I helped.

  • Issue with MacBook Pro Display

My buddy has a 13" Macbook Pro unibody and recently whenever he puts it to sleep and then goes to open the screen again the backlight for the keyboard comes on but the display does not show up. In order to fix it he has to close the lid and then open it again and the display then shows up. Any ideas on why this is happening?

You should put this question on the MacBook Pro forum. This is a forum for a specific model of MacBook so there is a good chance that somebody who can answer will never see it.

  • Blue tooth issues with macbook pro late 2011

I purchased the new beats pill and havinng issues with connectivity with macbook pro. My Iphone works well. Any suggestions

I have a similar issue.  Have you had any luck with a fix, yet?  I have a Samsung sound bar, and my Ipad and Iphone both connect with no issues. The playback is uninterrupted with fine sound quality.  My 2011 13" Macbook Pro connects, however playback often sounds like a scratched CD.  Last year I called both, Samsung and Apple, and when all was said and done it was recommended that I bring the then brand new sound bar and my Macbook to an Apple Store.  Any suggestions I are appreciated.

  • Graphics issues with MacBook Pro Retina

I bought my 15" MBPr in July and have been living with these issues since the beginning. Generally the issue happens when scrolling or writing in forms on web pages in Safari. Often times pieces of the web page will stick or ghost. This also sometimes happens when viewing photos on FaceBook. Anyone else having similar issues?

A number of folks have had graphics issues with the Retina display model... since you're still under warranty, take your unit to your local Apple Store or an AASP and reproduce the problem for them. They should have a 'fix' - even if it means replacing the logic board - that will be of no cost to you.
I couldn't have put up with that as long as you have...

  • Sound Issues with macbook pro 13" and external display

Hey guys I have a 13" macbook pro from mid 2012 with 8 gb ram and the i7 processor. About a year ago I bought a thunderbolt to hdmi adapter and hdmi cable to use my 32 in tv as a monitor. It worked flawlessly and I never experienced the flickering issue people have been talking about. The tv is only 720p so the picture wasn't as clear as it should be. I was also tired of using a pullout desk and thought the 32 in was a little too big so a couple weeks ago I added an entire desk setup in the corner and bought a brand new 24 in Vizio E241i--a1 and mounted it on the wall as a monitor. This tv is the full 1080p. Ever since then, I have had trouble with the sound playing from the macbook>displayport-hdmi adapter>hdmi cable>monitor. I select the monitor as the output device and sometimes it will actually play and sometimes it will not. I mostly use the macbook in clamshell mode when at my desk but sometimes I have both screens on. No matter what if the sound has stopped working it will not go back. If I select the macbook speakers as the output then it will play through the macbook speakers. But once I switch back to the hdmi output for sound it still will not work. The only thing I can do to fix it is to leave the macbook in clamshell mode and then restart it causing the monitor to be the main display at boot up. Once I got the new tv, I also started experiencing the flickering issue people have been talking about with the external monitor. I know it is not because of Mountain Lion because I had Mountain Lion when I used my old setup and never experienced either of these problems. Any ideas on what could be going on? Thanks in advance

Did you format the external drive for use with OS X?
Open Disk Utility. Does Disk utility see the connected drive?
Format it to "Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

  • Display issues with MacBook Pro

When I connect my MacBook Pro to my Promethean Board it automatically resizes my screen so that it is very large.  I can't access all of my menu at the top of my screen and my icons are huge.  If I got into the Display settings it is set on 1280x800 with a Refresh Rate of 60 hertz.  When I try a different size it doesn't change. How can I change the display while my Promethean board is connected?

  • Resolution issue with macbook pro 13 (late 2013) and dell u2711

I have a Dell U2711 (native resolution 2560x1440) that I use without issue with a macbook pro late 2007 (running 10.10.x), various iMacs and Macbook air 2011 running 10.10. When I say without issue, the display works at its native resolution.
Last week we got a MacBook Pro 13in, late 2013 model.
If I connect this macbook via either thunderbolt connection to the u2711 using either DVI port on the dell, the maximum resolution that I can use is 1920x1080. I am using apple mini displayport to DVI adaptors (I have tried 2 different ones and 2 different DVI cables, with no improvement). Clicking option + scaled in sys prefs does not give the native resolution as an option.
However, I just discovered that if I use a DVI to HDMI adaptor and I connect the macbook to the display I get the full native resolution without issue (2560x1440).
I have zapped the pram, powered down the display etc etc etc and it made no difference.
I would prefer to use the mini DIsplayPort to DVI adaptor rather than HDMI, any suggestions appreciated.
    TIA.

  • Screen Issues with MacBook Pro (Static Lines)

Hey guys.  I aam having problems with my Screen/Display on my Macbook Pro.
Static lines appear aprox 1/3 of the way in from the right side.  The lines run horizontally about 1 inch in length and running vertically all the way down the display. A screen shot shows a normal working display.  Took a pic of the problem:
I cannot run hardware tools.  My computer did not come with a disc and I know they are only a shipping charge but I do not have even $5.  I am a student and this is my only way to do my schoolwork.  The Screen (inner display and outer protective screen) was replaced by Apple in May '12.  The 1 yr warranty ran out in June '12.  When the screen was replaced it started doing this as well, but had not gotten this bad.  There are now 2 where there was only one yesterday.  I am wondering if it may be the cable as moving the display often fixes or produces the problem.   I know the cable is not very expensive and not to difficult to replace.
Here is the info on my Mac:
    Nice Name:
    Machine Model: MacBookPro9,1
Name: MacBook Pro (mid 2012) 15 inch

    Memory - maximum total: 16GB
    Memory - largest module: 8GB

It is getting worse in the sense that it is occuring more often and taking longer to resolve.  Moving the laptop lid/display would typically fix the prblem in the past but now it is hit or miss.  Even vibrations will cause the issue to occur or resolve.  We are leaning more towards the issue being a cable and not the display.  Since taking a screenshot produces a pic without issues I would gather that the video card is fuctioning properly.  I welcome any comments on this.

  • Issues with MacBook Pro and Asus VW266H

I own a 2.4 GHz 15 inch MacBook Pro,and an Asus VW266H (external monitor) that I wanted to connect to my Mac via VGA,since the DVI is connected to my desktop computer. So I went ahead and purchased Apple's MiniDisplay Port to VGA adapter, and connected my Mac to my display. At first, the Mac didn't recognize the display with its name and would only go up to a resolution of 1920x1080(while the maximum resolution of the display is 1920x1200). I restarted the Mac with the display plugged in,and once the laptop booted up,the resolution was 1920x1200 and the display was recognized, but immediately quite a lot of trembling was noticeable. When the display wasn't detected properly(as an Asus VW266H) this problem wasn't present. I'm guessing that this is a compatibility issue, which by the way wasn't fixed by the latest EFI update by Apple, which improved external display compatibility. Does anyone have any idea if the problem might be something else other than lack of compatibility and/or how to fix it?
I know that neither the adapter nor the VGA cable have a problem since I connected the computer to my 1080p TV and it worked just fine...

    Concerning this comment:
I know that neither the adapter nor the VGA cable have a problem since I connected the computer to my 1080p TV and it worked just fine...
I would like to point out that 1080p has a lower pixel clock than will 1920 x 1200. So it could be the stability problem is only present when the pixel clock is at the high end of the range.
You could return the adapter and try another. A new one might have better margins. Another thing you could try is to use a utility like SwitchResX to lower the pixel clock and see if stability improves.

  • Issues with MacBook Pro and ACD 30"

Does anyone else have a 30" ACD hooked up to their MacBook Pro yet? My 30" is having some issues with my new MacBook 2.0ghz and I would like to see if I am the only one.
#1) I am getting horizontal white lines flickering every minute or so. This does not happen on my 17" PB G4 1.67. This is more distracting than the "dancing pixel" problem.
#2) The bottom of the reflection of the album art in FrontRow is distorted when I use the 30" as the main monitor. I posted a photo here: http://members.cox.net/5337/fr.jpg - the "distortion" changes everytime I change song and it different everytime. It occurs on all the album work.

I think you were responding to Bob Smith, but regardless, I found the same information.
One thing I've noticed, and mind you, I don't have my MBP yet, so I'm working from photo's, but I am bothered by the DVI connector being so "exposed". I would have somehow put a sliding cover on it, or at least one of the plastic end caps. I know, I will most likely never use my MBP on an external display, HOWEVER, I don't like the idea that all sorts of gunk and stuff can easily get jamed into that big ole connector!
I think an air can or a fine photo brush should be part of your "kit". Just my opinion...

  • Issue with macbook pro Hi-res antiglare purchace

So the story goes that I went to buy a 15 inch mb pro from the apple store in indianapolis in. I walked in with cash, and walked out with nothing.
I bought and returned 3 macbook pro's in a row due to slight problems with the screen. All three macbooks were the high end 2.3 ghz model with the hi- res anti glare screen. All three had the same issue... the viewable portion of the screen was ever so slightly off center. 2 of them were worse than the other one, but none of them were perfect. And when I am paying upper 2000's for a computer I expect perfection. In addition to this problem, one of the computers screens was not perfectly square, and one of the screens also had a very SMALL (almost unnoticable) amount of light leak at the bottem right corner.
So my problem is that I still want a macbook pro. However, I don't want to be forced to buy another computer that I can't see first. The fact that they do not have a cash back return policy means that if I have to return the computer, I will walk out with no money, and once again have to wait for a check from apple. I am not a fan of banks either. Also, the Aplle store manager refused to let me continually return computers until I got a perfect one.
What should I do? I still want a macbook pro, and the only viable competitor in the HP envy series has not even been updated yet to have competitive power. I will not accept any computer that has an imperfect screen though. I am anal.

I see several posts regarding the 2011 pro in this category.
They are confused by the forum names if they are in this forum. Happens a lot. The labeling for the MacBook Pro forums is somewhere between dismal and abysmal. Were is not for people here requesting posts be moved to the proper forums, we'd be up to our ears in posts for newer MBPs with black keys and different technology and display options than found in the older silver-key MBPs.
This forum, poorly labeled "MacBook Pro (Original)," is for those made prior to the date of introduction of the MacBook Pro 5,1 which was October 2008. Anything newer, including current MBP offerings, falls into the other forum area I;ve linked. I'm not being picky--I'm trying to get you to a group f people who have the most experience with current production MacBook Pros and, hopefully, better response than you are getting here.

  • Are there widespread issues with macbook pro lcds having to be replaced on computers less than a year and a half old

are there any know issues with respect to lcd displays going bad on macbook pros. my computer which sits on a desk and has never traveled outside the home needs a whole new lcd replacement. Its a year and three months old.Pretty bad for an expensive laptop

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Some MacBooks Pro with Retina display have got problems with the display, related to a display manufacturer. However, in this case, it's a common issue and Apple is replacing or repairing all of these computers for free.
In your case, probably it was bad luck. Computers fail, and maybe you have bad luck and your computer has got a defective part that has to be replaced. Fortunately, this rarely happens, and most of the users are happy with their MacBooks Pro

  • Bluetooth iPhone 6 Plus issues with MacBook Pro

Most recently, started having issues with my iPhone 6 plus maintaining connection to my MacBook Pro 15in.   Noticed this strictly through using iMessage, as I use it to text a lot.
    Steps taken so far:
Verified other bluetooth devices (Keyboards, Mice) working fine.
    Rebooted both iPhone and MBP.
"Reset" the bluetooth connection by removing it both on the MBP and iPhone, then re-paried the devices.
The pairing function will work then suddenly it will display "not connected".   I additionally have verified the iPhone can connect to other bluetooth devices fine.  (Car, Keyboard).  So I definitely can say it is isolated to iPhone--MacBookPro.
The fact there was no major updates on any side has me concerned, just suddenly "stopped working".
    Any help is appreciated, thanks!

You know what, you are right.   Not sure why I thought that.  Now the question is why my SMS is not working with iMessage.   Back to the drawing board!

  • Issue with MacBook Pro charger?

    Hello,
I bought my MacBook Pro 15" in October 2009. I hardly ever take it out of my place. Senior Apple adviser told me, that the battery in my computer is factory calibrated, so bassically I treat my laptop as iMac. It's connected to the charger all the time. When I'm done using it, I either put it to sleep or shut it down. Two days ago I noticed: (Not Charging) by the icon of the battery. Apparently the charger stopped charging. It's MagSafe charger with T style connector. From what I've been reading in disscussion forum regarding charger issues, it looks like perhaps this charger needs to be replaced.
But the interesting part is, that the green led on the connector holds steady since (Not Charging) appeared two days ago, and also, the battery power dropped only to 94% and holds steady as well.
So this makes me wonder, is there something wrong with the charger, or is it something else?
My computer knowhow is limited, so any information or tip will be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • After several repairs, still having heating issue with MacBook Pro (mid '09)

EDIT: this post got removed the first time for not being constructive enough. I've now edited the post.
This is going to be a lengthy post, so bear with me.
2 months ago, I suddenly noticed my MacBook Pro (medio 2009, 15", 4GB RAM, GeForce 9400M) heating up a lot harder than usual. I'm familiar with the heating issues these laptops have, but this wasn't normal. Looking at iStat Pro, I saw my fans almost taking off like an airplane at 5700 rpm, while watching only a livestream on my browser. I know Shockwave Flash takes up quite a chunk of your CPU, but I had never encountered this problem beforehand.
The biggest problem wasn't just the heat or the fans, but the fact that my computer also started reacting rather slowly. Sometimes I'd even get beachballed, or the whole browser stopped responding for half a minute...
So I tried to see if gaming was still an option. Of course not. I had been playing League of Legends for several months without any issues. Whilst playing, I'd kick up my fans manually to about 4000 rpm, and they'd stay there throughout the whole game. Now, when I start up the game, it plays smoothly for the first 2 minutes. After the temperatures rise to a critical level, the fans start spinning up to 5700 rpm, and the whole game plays like a powerpoint presentation.
On a sidenote: it sort of 'lags' every 1-2 seconds, and sometimes, after a long period, the game acts somewhat normal again (20 mins). This game uses wine to run, which isn't the most optimal way. So I tried playing Team Fortress 2, too. Probably even worse results! (but again noticeable 1-2 second interval lags)
Before anyone starts screaming: "Don't use your Mac for gaming!" etc., I wish to point out that these two games had been running perfectly for the past few months/years. Something's definitely wrong.
After looking for some solutions myself, I decided to go to an authorized Apple Service in my city. A few days later, they told me my logic board was broken, and I had to pay almost 700 euros ($ 900-1000) to replace it. So I did. I got it back, but it wasn't fixed. Brought it back in. Got it back a week later: "Your new logic board we got from Apple was already broken, but we hadn't noticed. We put a new one in it. It's fixed." Again, same problem.
We're almost 2 months later and 700 euros poorer, still no result. I've brought it in about 6-7 times now, here's a list of what they've tried so far:
    - In total 3 new logic boards
    - New MagSafe (because they discovered it was giving too much power too my laptop)
    - Fresh re-install
    - Replaced RAM
    - Checked fans etc. (they do this by default)
    - A few tests which proved that it was repaired (but I have my doubts with these tests...)
They told me now that it's fixed, and they basically won't look into it anymore. I must contact Apple myself, if I wasn't satisfied. The tests they performed showed no signs of heating issues. (One of the tests was playing 4 1080p movies at the same time. When I watch a 1080p movie on Youtube, my laptop is taking off like a plane) They ran a stress test all night long, showing no temperatures above 98°C. I got it up to 105°C in a few minutes according to iStat Pro.
They advised me to install Mountain Lion, which would make the issues with "high-performance sites" go away. I haven't seen much improvement, though.
This whole experience has been quite frustrating, especially now that I'm gonna need my laptop for University again. Isn't there anything I can do? I've paid almost 700 euros and missed my laptop for 2 months, without any results.
I've got more information regarding the issues if needed, ask away. I'm getting desperate.
I've been browsing around the support communites, and found that a lot of people are having issues since they upgraded to OS X Lion. Could this be the case? Should I try downgrading to Snow Leopard?
I've also found a few topics on refreshing the cooling pasta on the heatsink. Would they have noticed any problems with this after replacing the Logic Board several times? Or should I check it myself? I'm not too keen on opening up my laptop myself...
    Nick.

    Thought of buying Parallels? Fusion?
Might want to see if this gets moved to the MacBook Pro forum.
I'd think Windows 8.1 is smart enough (what I use 90% time since the Dev Preview came out couple yrs ago it seems like) to find the driver.
