Issues with opening PDF in browser

I am trying to open a pdf in my browser but it will only save or save as.  I need it to open in my browser as I need to complete the areas allowed and save/send back.
I looked in the Reader and it shows Web Browser options is correct.  I have Windows 7 and IE9.  Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, it is 64-bit.  Windows will not let me open/download the 32 bit.  Any way around this?  I need to do this on a daily basis to where I will need to buy another computer if no way around.  Thanks for the help!

  • Issue with opening .PDF files after recalling from Symantec Enterprise Vault

    Good Morning,
I am having issues with opening PDF files that have been recalled from Symantec Enterprise Vault and some of the files are anywhere from 3-4 years old.  Some files open, while others return the error: Adobe Reader could not open filename.pdf because it is not a supported file type or might have been damaged.  It is inconsistent as to which files it occurs with.  I am not ready to believe that I have that many corrupt files out there.  I am opening them on a Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 x64 desktop. Adobe 10.1.7. I have already configured the registry setting for bValidateBytesBeforeHeader that I found in another article to no avail.
The files are on a network share, but I also tried copying them to my local desktop and still received the error.
I have seen other posts regarding this error, but do not see a definitive solution and am hoping that in recent days someone has come up with a solution.
    Thank You
    Brian Dougherty

Not supported file type can (but not always) mean the PDF was created with an old enough version of Acrobat, that it isn't comaptible with reader X or XI.
Might have been damaged is pretty cut and dried in its meaning and interpretation.
There's a known issue with Mac OS and Safari Browser "breaking" PDFs as they download, but it's not so common for Windows. Since these are files you already had, it would be even less applicable.
You can try downloading an older version of Reader to check if it's a compatibility issue, but you'd have to uninstall the latest to do it and it'd be a lot of bother if they still don't open. It would also mean they are "broken" and cannot be repaired, that I know of.

  • Issue with opening PDF file link from Safari

    Hi Everyone,
I got a problem with opening PDF file link from Safari 4.04. Instead of getting a normal pdf content, it shows some weird characters. Not sure it is something wrong with Adobe Reader Plugin or Safari?
I have uploaded a screenshot of the issue in the adobe forum (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/531870). Please help!
    Many Thanks,
    John

There's nothing wrong, except the fact that you have Adobe Reader installed. You don't need it, so get rid of it; it will only cause problems with Safari. What you're seeing is the contents of the PDF file, rather than having it displayed.
If you want to download a PDF file, you can either Control-click on the link and choose "Download Linked File As…", or you can Option-click on the link for the file and it will be downloaded to your Download folder (usually your Desktop).
If you want to view a PDF file in Safari, you don't need Adobe Reader; Safari is perfectly capable of doing this by itself and has been for years. Adobe Reader will only get in the way and slow everything down.

  • Issue with opening pdf file from web browser

I have Acrobat Pro ver 6 and Adobe Reader 9.1 on a computer.  when my user tries to open up a pdf from the web he is getting the following error message:
"The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a WEb Browser.  Adbe Acrobat/Reader version 8 or 9 is required.  Please exit and try again."
What also happens is that Acrobat Pro ver 6 opens up and nothing is there.
I am not sure why he is getting that message since Reader 9.1 is installed.
Can any one shed some light on this for me.
This user needs to have Acrobat and Reader on his system.  I understand that there are issues with having both.
Also he has it set up so that any PDF is opening using the Reader 9.1.
    Thanks,

Your PC's default reader configuration for embedded PDFs has become confused, due to multiple Adobe PDF document solutions installed on one PC.
    Solution 1:
    Go to Start > Run
    Type regedit and click OK.
Browse to the following key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Software\Adobe\Acrobat\Exe
Make sure that the correct Default data value is set for the path where Adobe Reader or Acrobat are installed.
    The default installation values are:
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe"
    or
"C:\Program Files\adobe\acrobat 6.0\acrobat\Acrobat.exe" (not sure about this path.  Check on your PC to be sure)
depending on whether Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat is installed.
    Solution 2:
Configure the browser to use Acrobat or Adobe Reader as a helper application.
If you are using Firefox to browse the web, you can change this setting in Firefox by going to:
    Tools > Options
    Click on the "Applications" Tab.
The first item in the list should be "Adobe Acrobat Document".  Under the Action list, click the drop down arrow and select the application you want to read PDFs within the web browser.  Click OK, and you should be done.
If you're using Internet Explorer to view PDFs, try the below steps.
After you configure Acrobat or Adobe Reader as a helper application, the browser starts the helper application in a separate window and displays PDF files within that window. Acrobat and Adobe Reader both include a preference that lets you specify Acrobat or Adobe Reader as the helper application.
To configure Acrobat or Adobe Reader as a helper application:
    Start Acrobat or Adobe Reader.
    Choose Edit > Preferences.
    Select Internet on the left.
Deselect Display PDF In Browser Using [Acrobat application], and then click OK.
    Quit Acrobat or Adobe Reader.
The next time you select a link to a PDF file in the browser, a dialog box asks what you would like to do with the file. If you select Open It, the browser opens the PDF file in Acrobat or Adobe Reader (the helper application); if you select Save It To Disk, the browser saves the PDF file to your hard drive.

  • Issue with opening PDF files from the web Acrobat 8.1.4

    Hello everyone
I just found out about this problem today, and it manifests in such a manner that when you try to open a PDF document on the web, it hangs for a while, and then the standard message about Adobe Acrobat not being able to open the document comes up, and after you OK away that you get the message that the program shuts down.
If I download the PDF itself and open it locally it works. Is there any known issue with updates recently that creates this problem?
The system is running on Windows 7 32-bits, and Adobe Acrobat is a part of the CS3 Master Collection.
    Greetings from Alexander

  • I am having issues with opening pdf files directly from website on safari.

i cant open any pdf files from safari. the page goes blank when the link is clicked.
the same, however, can be easily viewed upon and saved on chrome or firefox.

    Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Problem with opening pdf in browser

    Hello
Acrobat X Pro 10.0.0.396 was installed on PC with Adobe Reader 9 (tried with Reader 10). When I open pdf documents from browser IE 8 or FireFox 3.5 i cann't see Tools panel and buttons from quick area (only Comments and Share).
plugin in browser - Adobe Acrobat 10.0.0.396 but i think document opens with plugin from Reader. But i deleted it from PC
    thank you in advance

Each user would have to set each browser individually.
Note: I don't think it's possible to set the default PDF viewer with code for every user who visits the site.
See the following link to enable Adobe Reader as the default PDF viewer in different browsers:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/display-pdf-browser-acrobat-xi.html
Note: Not all PDF viewer browser plug-ins support PDF submissions, and most 3rd party viewers may not support forms created with LiveCycle or forms with Extended Reader Rights enabled.

There are instances where Adobe 9 has problems opening in SAP Portal. This happens intermittently.
Try uninstalling the Adobe and downgrade to Adobe 8.

  • Issues with Display PDF in Browser option

We've recently hit a problem with our application that used to successfully display PDFs in a web browser control. In Adobe Reader 9.x it worked no problem. In Adobe Reader 10.1.3, it stopped working. I'm working along the line that it is something to do with the interaction between the ActiveX viewer and Internet Explorer when in a Citrix environment. (IE is version 8, OS is Windows 2003 Server). To help determine it was the Citrix element that was the cause, with the 'Display PDF in Browser' option active and using Adobe Reader 10.1.3 I launched IE from a command window passing the pdf file name as an argument and the PDF was successfully displayed in the IE browser. Now Adobe Reader 10.1.4 the latter is no longer working; the PDF is always displayed in the Adober viewer.
Has Display PDF in Browser been effectively disabled in 10.1.4?
If it should work as before, what can I do to restore the situation?
    TIA
    Craig

    Hi Ben,
I manually added the registry setting but it made no difference.
I uninstalled 10.1.4 and reinstalled 10.1.3 and with 10.1.3 I am able to view a PDF in IE when launched from the command line.
I re-downloaded and reinstalled 10.1.4 and retried and now I can view a PDF in IE when launched from the command line.
    Strange.
    Regards
    Craig

  • Issue with opening PDF's on Mobile Safari

I'm developing a Mobile Application in which i need to open a pre filled PDF in the browser at the end of a user session with data already entered by the user in my application. When i'm trying to open the pdf in the Safari browser on IPhone and IPad no user data is visible but if i choose the option "open in Adobe Reader" all the user data is visible.
I have a web version of the same application and all the pdf's are showing up with the user data in IE, Chrome, Opera and Safari browsers on Windows platform and Safari browser on Mac.
I'm using the following code to send a PDF to the browser
    Response.Clear();
    Response.ClearHeaders();
    Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.Private);
    Response.AddHeader("Content-Length", fileBytes.Length.ToString());
    Response.ContentType = "application/pdf";
    Response.BinaryWrite(fileBytes);
    Response.End();

  • Can anyone help me with an issue with opening PDF files- ?

I have windows vista 34 bit, IE 8. I have had adobe reader on my computer for 7 yrs. Never had a problem with it until now. I have kept it updated, since it is vital to my work. Last week, I tried to open a PDF file for work, and I get a "white/blank page". I have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader 9, 7 times, tried the "Repair tool". and nothing works.  Can anyone help?  I have very little computer knowledge.. do not understand computer language, or anything tech-- so please don't reply as a developer or IT tech language.  Dummy it down for me.

There are multiple people using this same site, and I am the only one that is having this issue-- everyone else can open/download their documents/ PDF files,, Why can't I??   I am loosing buisness because of this issue. There has to be an answer somewhere?? Does anyone have anything???? HELP!!!
Ok-- Everyone and anyone!!!!  I really need help desprately.. I have called the company's web site IT department,  it's not thier issue-- it's mine.  In addition to uninstalling and reinstalling, making sure that everything is up to date on Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash and Sun Java, and Windows vista 32 (only updated) --- all these have the latest updates. I have done a System Restore to 5 days before the issue started. Nothing has changed. I still get a white/blank page on this one area. There has to be a setting, a block or a glitch somewhere that someone knows about and can help me fix. Please, Please Help!!!!

  • Color issues with opening PDFS in PS5

    Hi Everyone,
I was given a pdf by a customer. It's not quite layed out well for print so I need to move around some items. Unfortunitly not all the items are moveable in Arobat X pro. So I figured I would make the edits in PS5. Everything works well except the color after I have edited the page in PS is darker and muddier. I have no access to the orignal raw file so I have to edit the PDF. Is there a way to make sure the edited pdf matches the original? I tried opening the selected page of the pdf in both RGB and CMYK mode. Any ideas? I am using acrobat x pro and Photoshop Cs5 on mac oc 10.6.8.

first you probably realize if your PDF has vector type or vector objects -- Photoshop will raster (destroy) them at the ppi you use
opening the PDF Illustrator may be a better program to try and crack this nut (to preserve any vector)...
the color after I have edited the page in PS is darker and muddier
(if you mean in Photoshop) that is most likely a profile issue -- you need to Photoshop Edit> Assign Profile (the correct profile)
in Acrobat, use Object Inspector to verify the object's source profile:
tip: if your Acrobat displays the PDF  "Device" untagged colors proper (on a calibrated monitor), Photoshop Edit> Assign Profile: Acrobat's Working Working Space profile...
(if you mean in Acrobat) that is most likely a profile issue you need to sort out... if your PDF object is Tagged, it should display (and Convert) properly

  • Issues with opening PDF file

I have been working on a PDF file in illustrator and out of the blue it started to give me following error:
"The document contains PDF objects that have been reinterpreted: To preserve appearance, some text has been outlined."
And I can only can choose between OK and Cancel, OK opens my file that has text swapped with random lettering. How can i reverse that or get it to stop? Really do not wanna re-do 19 pages of files.
    I'm on CS5, OS X Mavericks.
    Cheers,
    Maria

Sadly that doesn't help me, I need to do some design modifications and this doesn't allow me to do that anymore

  • IPad issue with opening PDF

Since latest update I am unable to open any PDF files on my iPad (gen 3).  Anyone else having this issue and know how to resolve?

Try resetting your iPad. Hold down the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons at the same time. Keep holding them down until you see the Apple logo, then let go. Reopen Adobe Reader.

  • General issues with opening pdfs

For the last year I have had a few people (usually the same ones)  tell me they can't open the pdfs I send them. While most other people can open the identical pdf, these few other  people can't. I'm sure this is a huge problem to solve...people may not have the latest version of Reader, or they may be trying to open it in a browser that is not supported. But usually the complaint I get is that the file is corrupted and can't be opened. I've tried to help them by telling them to update to the latest version of Reader, and they say they have and still can't open it. Again, others on the same email I sent CAN open it, so it's probably not something that I'm doing to corrupt the file.
The latest example is a pdf that was created from my HP Officejet Pro L6500 when I scanned a document to pdf, I copied it from the printer's SD card over the network connection, and emailed it through Outlook to the recipient. She couldn't open it. got the message:
The file "[filename].pdf" could not be opened.
It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn't recognize.
Here's what I would suggest to help: Adobe, please create an engine on the Acrobat website that people can drag and drop a pdf file to and the engine will examine the file and tell them if it's OK, corrupted, what version it is, and maybe even allow them to save it to an older version of Acrobat if necessary. Seems like that could really help all around.
    Thanks for listening.

That message indicates that the user was using Mac's Preview application, NOT Adobe Acrobat or Reader.
