Issues with Powerpoint on my MAC

I am having an issue with Powerpoint for MAC. I am running Office 2008 on my MAC with OS X 10.6.8. As I work on a slide, all of sudden the deck jumps all over the place! I have to constantly scroll through the deck to get back to the slide I am working on, and then try to do as much editing before the deck goes crazy again. It's a probelm that's existe since the beginning but today I've had enough of it.
Anybody have any idea as to what's going on? I use the Bluetooth mouse that came with the MAC . Could there be some sensitivity issue with it that's causing the eratic jumping?
Thanks

  • Issue with Powerpoint in Captivate

I am creating a training project and am having an issue with powerpoint. When I select to update the slide with powerpoint in Captivate the changes I make and save do not appear on the slide. Just today I went into the slide I wanted to update and changed the slide timing from 1 to 2 seconds on all 5 bullet points.  When I saved my changes, sync'd the updated powerpoint with the project and viewed only the first 3 bullet points appeared. I checked the slide display time to see if that was the issue. I am a beginner user and can't seem to figure out the issue when updating powerpoint slides.

    @megain.jonas
I'm using Captivate 6, Your suggestion does work, but it's a nasty work-around and quite time consuming.  HOWEVER, it works and I am greatful for a solution . If the text box contains bulleted text only, Captivate retains the format from PowerPoint.
So, if you need a work-around, create two text boxes - 1 for the non-bulleted text and a 2nd for the bulleted text.  I'm not sure why Captivate has issues with this , it's annoying, but at least I can get it to work.
Anyone else have information on this issue and other effective work arounds?

  • Serious problem with Powerpoint 2011 for MAC

Hi, if anyone can help. We are a team of designers who work on Apple Macs, we use Powerpoint but have serious issues with the decks. When we move the deck window around the screen, it fragments the screen, leaving us unable to do anything else. Once this
happens, we have to re-start our Mac each time, this becomes very time consuming. Thanks.

  • Anyone got Issue with Time Machine on Mac OS 10.9.5 on External Hard Drive?

Mac Book Air June 2012, Mac OS 10.9.5 (fully updated) external Hard Drive, USB 3
    Dear all,
Just realized that my regular Time Machine back-ups don’t work anymore: despite several back-ups, Time Machine tells me that I did not back-up for 10 days but I did not get any error message.
Suspected an issue with my external Hard Drive, so took a brand new one 1TB, labelled Mac OS, USB 3, sold at Apple Corner.
Registered this new drive in Time Machine, started a full back-up of about 350 Gb, and it is hanging up, 13Kb copied in one hour.....
This become very critical as I don’t have back-up since a few days....
Your help will be upmost appreciated.
    Best regards to all,
    Bernard

Temporarily turn Time Machine "off". Make sure a backup is not in progress, then rebuild the Spotlight database according to the following instructions: Spotlight: How to re-index folders or volumes
(summary: drag the entire source volume to the exclusions list, click OK, then remove it by clicking the minus ("–") button.)
This will have no effect on any existing backups.
Let Spotlight finish reindexing and then turn Time Machine back "on". Select "Back Up Now".

  • Issues with external drive on Mac Mini / Lion

I'm using an external SATA drive in a Newer Technologies Voyager dock (which I like to call the "toaster") with a brand new Mac Mini i5 2.3G via FW800.
The drive was formatted using Disk Utility on a G4 running Tiger (10.4.11)
With the drive mounted, the Mini's performance seems to slow down, and it randomly dismounts the drive, with the usual warning, "you disconnected your drive without dismounting it first, bla bla...)
I think I remember when Leopard was new, there was a firmware issue that had to be dealt with, and when moving drives from OS 9 to X and back to 9, I lost access to the data on the drive.
I'm also aware of the partitioning scheme difference when formatting drives for use on the Intel machines.
Could either of the above have anything to do with the problem I'm having here?

I'm not an expert in this, but as far as I know, GUID only comes into play if you want to boot from it, but...... you never know, it could - here is an excerpt from Disk Utility:
If you’ll be using the disk only with Mac computers, choose GUID Partition Table.
Another thought is: how old is that drive? All hard drives fail sooner or later - have you tried to check it with Disk Utility or something like Disk Warrior?

  • How can i fix Connection issues with back to my mac since yosemite upgrade.

Ok I have been having nothing but problems with back to my mac since the upgrade. both machines are using yosemite and I have even reinstalled yosemite on both still having connection issues. anyone else know how I can fix this? I get one of 2 error messages one that says there is a problem connecting and i should make sure screen sharing is active and then another that says the server does not exist. So far to get it working it involves restarting back to my mac or both macs. This is not a good fix since once I disconnect and try to reconnect a few hours later it does it all over again. I am currently in France and needless to say my parents are starting to get really annoyed with constantly having to do things on there end so I can remote into my iMac.Before the yosemite upgrade I maybe had to do this once or twice.

What I have done is open Disk Utility, Repair Permissions, and do that more than once if it returns a lot of errors in the permissions.  Then Restart the Mac.
Also, go to System Preferences > Spotlight and try turning off a couple settings such as search suggestions...these things are taking a lot of resources now.

  • Any known compatibility issues with Norton Antivirus for Mac v.11

I sometimes work freelance for a company that requires freelancers to have an antivirus program on their computers regardless if they are macs.
Anybody know if there are any known compatibility issues with mac Norton Antivirus v.11 and snow leopard?
    thanks

Big time. Do not, do not install anything Norton. Your system will be mucked. Comply with the company request and use ClamXav.

  • Issues with ITunes on Lion Mac OS X 10.7

I succesfully upgraded to Lion and everything seemed to be fine until I started trying each of the programs. I had previously upgraded to Ilife  '11 (unless I did something wrong) but I can't get  IPhoto to open, though my photos can be seen if I set up the screensaver to Iphoto. Garageband and Imovie work properly.
My second issue is that when connecting my Iphone, it doesn't show on the Itunes Devices section. I updated Itunes already but the problem is istill there.
    Anyone can help?
    d.

This sounds like a compatibility issue with the software you are using. I recommend you contact the software vendor for a Lion-compatible update.

  • Had issue with Powerpoint, so yesterday updated Word for Mac 2011 to v. 14.41 - now lots of functionality missing from Word as well as Powerpoint. Any suggestions welcome.

Hi - Word for Mac 2011 has been working fine. Yesterday suddenly couldn't edit into Powerpoint pptx from a PC (something I used to be be able to do). Got the latest update for Word for Mac 2011, so now running v. 14.4.1 on my iMac, which operates under OS X 10.8.5. Word is now playing up - and I seem to have lost functionality - bullets and numbered lists, 'find' function and more besides broken. I'm swamped with work that I need to do in Word and Powerpoint and welcome any ideas.

Try an Office alternative.  It sounds like you have some data corruption.  Is your data backed up?

  • Issue with FileReference.load() on Mac/Firefox 3.6/FlashPlayer 10.0.45.2

    Hey there,
After several days of banging my head against my desk trying to figure out what my application is doing wrong, I think I stumbled across a problem that either I'm not handling correctly in my code or that is a bug in the Flash Player plugin for Firefox on the Mac (and on Linux).
    Here are my specs:
MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard 10.6.3
    Firefox 3.6.3 w/ Flash Plugin 10.0.45.2
    Safari 4.0.5 w/ Flash Plugin 10.0.45.2
    FlashBuilder 4.0 (272416)
    Flex 3.5 SDK
I can't post the code I've been working on as it's for a work project; however, I found something on Adobe's site that manifests this problem:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/quickstart/filereference_class_as3/
If you open up this page in Firefox 3.6 on the Mac, you may notice that the crop box doesn't work properly (or at least I noticed this behavior).  What I would see is that the crop box would immediately fill to the lower right hand corner.
Open up the same link in Safari and it works properly.
The following is what I've noticed in my debugging efforts on my own application:
After completing a FileReference.load call, the Flash application appears to lose focus (perhaps to the operating system?)
Moving the cursor (both in my case and I think in the example on the site) results in getting undefined (and astronomical) values back when you poll for the mouse cursor's position.
Clicking outside of Firefox and clicking back in seems to resolve this.  It seems like leaving the window and returning solves the problem.
To provide another example of this behavior, I've altered some code that does a similar function to the example on Adobe's site to produce some statistics about where the mouse cursor is:
    The code example:

If you compile and run this application in Firefox, you should see that the X and Y values for the mouse stop updating after the file is loaded.  On Safari they continue to update.
I couldn't find any reference to this problem searching on Google (perhaps not the right keywords?).
Anyone have any input on this issue?  Any help is appreciated

    Updates:
I've opened a bug with Adobe regarding this issue:
    http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-4362
Also, the Cancel operation on a FileReference causes the same issue to happen as does loading.  I really think it's an operating system focus issue.
    UPDATE:
Looks like this has already been tracked and is scheduled to be fixed:

  • Issue with Deduplicated files and Mac OSX 10.9.2

Running a Windows 2012 R2 DFS with Deduplication enabled on the storage drives.  Both Macs and PCs regularly interact with the system with no issues.
However with Apple's rollout of 10.9.2 SMB2 'fix' users are no longer able to correctly interact with any files on the file server with the "SparseFile" attribute, which appears to be from the deduplication of the file.
When the Macs attempted to download a "sparsed" file they get an error along the lines of "you do not have permissions to copy this file".  This is annoying enough, but the biggest head ache is when a user tries to
copy a folder that has sparced files in it, the folder and its files are seemingly copied but the Mac does not copy the sparced files... and give no indication to the user that it ran into an error... Finder just closes like
    the operation was completely successful.
Even more annoyingly the user can open the file directly from the server, and work on the file with seemingly no issues, but when they save the file the changes are often not saved, and the user gets NO feedback from the application or OS.
It seems the Macs are seeing the file as having a NULL file size and they skip the file when they download it.  This was not the case in 10.9.1 or any other version of any other OS we have tested.  We have entered this as a bug to Apple
and hope they will fix it... mostly just posting this for the next admin who is pulling his hair out trying to figure this out.
For a work around you can force the Apple 10.9.2 system to use SMB1 by using the CIFS protocol to connect to the server instead of normal SMB... which is not ideal but will work for now.

    Hi,
Please try to change "everyone" user permissions on a share folder to modify to see if the issue still exists.

  • Double computer name on network and NAT issue with Back to My Mac

These are the problems I am having:
When my MacPro workstation (which on the network is named "The Beast") wakes from sleep - I get a message saying "there is already a computer on the network with the name "The Beast". Other computers on the network can now find you at "The Beast-2"" and it gives me a new name in the file sharing preferences - even though it is the only computer on the network with that name.
    Why is this happening???
The other problem is with BackTo My Mac - When I try to enable it - I get an error message saying "Turn off NAT Addressing" - which I thought was turned off since the AEBS is in Bridge Mode. Why is this happening?
Here is my network setup which consists of the Modem / Router from my ISP - an Airport Extreme Base Station and one Airport Express - which is connected to my MacPro via ethernet. The MacPro does not have an airport card installed and is running OSX 10.6.8 - all other computers / devices are running 10.7.x and iOS6).
VDSL Modem / Router (from Internet provider) with wireless turned off - (so it is not broadcasting a competing wireless signal) - connected via ethernet to my Airport Extreme Base Station.
Here are all the settings on the AEBS and the Airport Express: - I am using Airport Utility 5.6.1 on my Mac Pro running OSX 10.6.8 - so the setup prefs are different than the newer version of Airport Utility found on 10.7.x systems - but both work fine. Although I did notice that the option to allow ethernet clients to connect to the Airport Express does not exist (or I just didn't find it) in the newer version of Airport Utility.
Airport Extreme Base Station is set up as follows:
Wireless Mode: Create a Wireless Network
    Wireless Settings:
Allow this network to be extended IS CHECKED
    Radio Mode: 802.11n (b and g compatible)
    Wireless Security: WPA/WPA2 Personal
    Access Control:
MAC Address Access Control: Not Enabled
    Internet Settings:
    Internet Connection:
    Connect Using: Ethernet
    Connection Sharing: OFF (Bridge Mode).
    TCP/IP:
    Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    Advanced Settings:
    Logging & Statistics:
Syslog Destination Address is blank (as in nothing appears in this field).
    Syslog Level: 5 - Notice
    Allow SNMP is CHECKED
    MobileMe:
Back to my Mac is turned off - but if I try to turn it on I get an error message saying "Turn off NAT Addressing - which I thought was turned off since the AEBS is in Bridge Mode. Why is this happening?
    IPv6:
    IPv6 Mode: Link-local only
As stated - my MacPro with no wifi card -  is connected via ethernet to an Airport Express which connects wirelessly to the AEBS for network and internet access.
    Airport Express Settings:
    Airport Settings:
Wireless Mode: Join a Wireless Network
    Allow Ethernet Clients IS CHECKED
    Wireless Security WPA/WPA2 Personal
Internet Settings: Are grayed out (as in I can't change these settings - I assume because they are being controlled by the AEBS) and read as follows:
    Connect Using: Wireless Network
    Connection Sharing: OFF (Bridge Mode)
    TCP/IP:
    Configure IPv4: using DHCP
All other settings are identical to the AEBS.
All other WiFi devices in the house (MacBook Pro, iPhones, iPad's, iMac, Apple TV, Nintendo Wii etc…all are able to connect to the network and connect to the internet - no problem.
Thanks for any insights into what might be causing the double name on the network and why it is asking me to turn off NAT addressing - when both my Airport devices are in Bridge Mode?

I am also having this issue... any updates on this??

  • Issues with Seagate in crowded Mac Pro?

I have a 2009 8-core Nehalem. All four drive bays are occupied. Until recently, the drives were all Western Digital. I upped my system drive to a Seagate ST31500 1.5TB and my Time Machine drive to a Seagate ST32000542 (2TB 5400 RPM), Within a few days, the system drive was scrambled and would no longer boot. Looking at it with both Disk Utility and TechTool Pro, it appeared that the B-tree was corrupted but recoverable. Still, the disk would no longer boot. I messed around with it for a couple of days, finally gave up, and exchanged the drive for a new one. New one ran fine for a month, and then...
I bought a new 32000542 for use an an external archive. Since I could test it more quickly internally than via USB, I swapped out one of my WD drives and stuck the Seagate into my chassis. At that point, the boot drive got scrambled again in exactly the same way. It will no longer boot, even after repair.
It's my suspicion that this is power-related. I wonder if there's something in the power-on sequencing that might cause a spike or a low voltage to which the Seagate is particularly vulnerable. I wonder if anyone can confirm a similar issue. I'm getting a little tired of replacing system disks right when I have something important to do.
At this point, I should point out that I always run full surface scans on new drives, and these all passed. My WD drives (500GB and 640GB) are just fine and have not been affected by this problem. Many thanks for comments on similar experiences or solutions.

Although you are moving in the direction of larger drives, some others are moving to a very small Boot drive, containing only System + Library + Applications + Paging. Reducing competition for the Boot drive by moving User files off eliminates a bottleneck and speeds up everything you do. I run one on an 80GB Velociraptor, and it seems very speedy, and another on a cheap 30GB SSD, about half full.
Since you did not explicitly say you were powering off when swapping drives, I want to be sure all reading this thread understand that Mac OS X does NOT support Hot swapping Internal drives, despite the fact that these Macs are equipped with Hot-swapping style SATA connectors.
