Issues with RAID Volumes with SLES10 on x4100

I upgraded an x4100 from SLES9 to SLES10 with 4 SAS drives which were configured as 2 RAID-1 volumes in hardware and am having problems with the names that these devices get.
The root file-system was installed on the 1st volume, /dev/sda, and the other volume, /dev/sdb, was mounted at /local.
Even at installation, the 1st volume was named /dev/sdb and the 2nd volume, /dev/sda. I had to pull out the 2nd volume so that the 1st volume would be correctly named and I could proceed the update.
After the update was successful and the system booted with no problems, I tried to insert the 2nd volume set again, but the MPT driver would insist on swapping the device names, leading to a hard freeze after complaining about failure to mount the root file-system.
Is there any way to fix this issue? I tried installing the driver for SLES10 from LSI Logic's website, but the problem persists.

I'm assuming SLES10 is a 2.6 linux kernel, which now includes the new hardware device naming scheme based upon the UUID (unique unit ID) of the hardware. The scheme is called "udev", and it runs at system startup.
When the system starts, 'udev' looks for the uuid's of resident storage hardware, and assigns and creates a /dev entry for each unique UUID. With this scheme, you could then move a disk from slot 0 to slot3, for example, and it would retain its /dev entry. So, for example, if the disk in slot 0 was named /dev/sda, and it was moved to slot3, it would still be mounted as /dev/sda.
You might want to 'clear' your device names (there is a procedure to do so... check the SUSE docs), then restart the system, verify your raid configuration, then allow the reboot to assign new /dev entries.

Volume issues with GE60 Apache Pro-003

I recently picked up the new GE60 Apache Pro notebook, and I've been running it for about a week now. I should of course mention that I also did a clean windows install after adding an SSD to the system (and now can't figure out how to add back that cool MSI panel that was there when I first got the system).
Anyway, I've noticed that there seems to be volume issues with the system no matter WHAT kind of settings I tweak, or drivers I try to use. With all sliders up at maximum, the volume levels still never seem to surpass around 50% (from observing the volume gauges in the Windows Volume mixer panel). My previous notebook's speakers put out significantly higher volume, and was also able to put out far more power to my headphones (Audio Technica ATH-M50).
Any possible ideas for the cause and solution to this problem? Thanks in advance, and let me know if there is anything else I need to mention.

Pretty much everything. Music, games, online videos... According to the volume mixer, the audio levels never seem to pass 50%. The grey bar bounces to the peak, but the green bar never seems to pass the 50% level. It's as if there's some sort of limiter in place I'm not aware of. Yes, the volume on my iPhone 4s will max out without me touching any button or setting. When opening mail, for instance, the ringer icon will appear and the volume level goes to max volume - and I'm not touching the volume buttons. It seems to happen randomly, at least I can't identify a pattern, but thankfully it doesn't happen all the time, but at least once a day.
Anyone else seen this?

Commvault issue with JobResults on NSS volume

Hi all, we see an issue with Commvault 9R2 (sp10) using a Linux i-data agent client on OES2SP3 x64 backing up (clustered) NSS volumes. For speed we, this case, do not want to use a NSS i-data agent, so we just leverage the Linux i-data agent.
The issue is that if we use the Linux i-data agent and the jobresults directory is also hosted on the same NSS volume that's being backed up we get an error on failures.cvf
"Could not open failures file [/media/nss/LBAPOA/galaxy/JobResults/2/268/Failures.cvf] error number [19, No such device]. The backup would continue but this would affect the ability of reattempting the failed file backup during next incremental backup. A full backup is recommended to back up all files. Check the following: 1. The account this product uses has permissions to the product's install directory. 2. Sufficient disk space is available for the Job Results directory. If the problem persists, please upload log files from CommServe, MediaAgent and Client and contact your vendor's support hotline with the job ID of the failed job."
If we (for testing only) move only the jobresult directory to an ext3 volume we do not see the issue.
Has someone seen (and hopefully fixed) this issue before? My guess it's a Commvault issue, but just before we open a SR with them I would like to now if there's a good guess to solve this:)

RAID blocking issues with the new d2 quadra

I just bought 2 of the newest 500GB d2 quadras and I attempted to set up a level 1 RAID with them daisy chained to my imac via firewire 800 and using disk utility. When I went to set the RAID Block size to 256k and create the RAID I got the screen of death. I then restarted and it did it again on start up. I unplugged the drives and started the computer back up and tested each one individually. I reformatted and tried again, same thing happened.
I took them into the apple store and it happened again on their computers. We tested other Block configurations (32k, 64k, 128k) and they all worked except 256k. The genius's didn't know what the problem could be. A Leopard issue, hard drive issue, or what else.....
Is anyone else having this issue? Should I be worried that there is an issue with one of the drives I am trying to RAID and return and get a new drive, or should I just set the block to 128k and not worry. I am pro photographer and am going to be storing and accessing RAW files in large amounts on these drives. What are the benefits and drawbacks for 128k formatting and 256k formatting?
Any advice would be great! Thanks!

There have been several posts here and on the iphone site about this.
The jury is still out what the fix will be. Some posts say it's a problem with the metadata and the orientation data contained there-in. I can not confirm that.
I do know that when I take a landscape screen snap, the orientation is wrong when I email or upload the photo to my computer.

Well there you go, when you advertise it just be sure to say that you can't even see the scratches at half brightness and see how it goes.
Of course you are saying you want $500 for one with many scratches on the screen, has been dropped, but the scratches aren't visible at half brightness, and has no warranty. I wouldn't pay more than $300 for a used model with your specs in perfect condition. But yours is far from perfect. I think your high point is $250 which is why I said 50%.

WinXP PRO install issue with SATA RAID floppy on P45D3

Hello,
My objective is to set up 2 RAID volumes (one in RAID0 + one in RAID1) using Intel RAID Matrix Manager.
After having enabled RAID mode on BIOS, created the 2 RAID volumes and pressed F6 at the beginning of WinXP PRO installation without any problem, I am stuck when one file from Intel SATA RAID driver floppy needs to be written on the disk.
The problem appears after having confirmed the partition I want to install WinXP on. I got the following message:
"Cannot write iaStor.sys" . And I have to cancel the installation.
I do not know where this file has to be written ... Additionally, this file was perfectly read (and written somewhere) just after having pressed "S" and provided the floppy during the first phase of WinXP installation.
Any suggestion to help me ?

- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.

To Creative: Audigy LS has major issues with Tomb Raider Lege

Hi,
I tried playing Tomb Raider Legend and turns out
that the Audigy LS card can't play audio properly in this game..
The sounds cracks, booms, buzzes and produces hiss etc.
Honestly it makes my ears bleed if I listen to it for too long.
At first I thought this was only a problem with my card, since I didn't
find anything related to this issue here at creative boards, but turns out
many other forums (several French and German boards)
got ppl complaining about this problem.
Also the 24-bit Li've! card seems to have issues with TR:Legend so that makes me think
the drivers are inadequate since both of these cards share same drivers.
AC97 works for now, but changing back and forth between audigy card and
on-board AC97 is quite tedious process to do just to play this one game.

Squeal Of Death does occur in Tomb Raider Legend. I've finished the game and it happened to me 3 times forcing me to reboot the computer. It even occured while I was in the menu.
But this is not uncommon for my computer though. I used to have many probs with my audigy2 zs while playing games like wow, mohpa and especially bf2.
The point is Squeal of death DOES occur to X-Fi models also, which I currently own after selling my audigy2 zs. Bf2 doesn't lock up anymore (at least for now) and I thought that the problem was gone until I played Tomb Raider Legend.
So if u ask me creative cards are to blame for the prob but only partly though. The squeal and lock up of the pc used to occur more often when I had audigy2 zs. Now it only occurs in TR Legend-for the time being. And of course bf giving away my old card I had tried all possible sollutions.
My specs are
Athlon64 3000+
MSI K8N2 Platinum
2*52 Kingston value Ram
2*80GB Seagate Raid 0
Creative XFi Extreme Music
2 Optical Dri'ves
Modem

Volume issues with third-party tele-conference service

A client is requried to join a conference call hosted by third-party Genesys Conferencing (866.436.3797). My client accesses the teleconference through the speakerphone of their Cisco SPA525G2, lcoated in a Board Room.
They have a UC-540 with the next to lates firmware and they have no other volume issues with any call on this or any other speakerphone.
Any ideas?

Apparently in iOS 8 there are different volume settings for different applications
The setting on the home screen does not carry over to Pandora for example and it is different ( or at least appears to be) for the in-car experience.
So I would try to stream the music when not in the car - see if you can turn the volume up and then try again in the car

Having issues with System Volume Information

I hjave a Ps script that I use to wipe off data from SQL servers as aprt of a decom process.
The script is as follows.

At the moment, it runs into issues with a folder. I would either like to delete the folder as well or actually exclude it. Also as an improcement to the script, I would want it to display the list of files it has deleted.
The error that I get is as follows.

Target Disk Mode with RAID Volume and Macbook Pro

I just received a MBP which I today intended to use to pull a netrestore image off our lab server. The latter is a Mac Pro with 2 RAID 1 arrays. I started the Mac Pro in target disk mode, hooked it up to the MBP and was expecting to see the RAID volumes to show up in the finder. Unfortunately nothing happened. I then started the disk utility only to find out that the volumes are shown but are not accessible.
Doing the same thing using our backup server (running OS X 10.4.8 server) works like a charm.
Is it possible that MBPs and/or the non-server version of OS X don't support target disk volumes off RAID arrays?
I used the same MBP as a target disk mode slave today and that, too, worked.

New P7N SLI Platinum Boot Issue with PS/2 Keyboard [Solved but RAID problem now]

This issue taken me back !!!! Never thought I might face issue with a PS/2 Keyboard.
Here it is.. I just assembled my new system...
P7N SLI Platinum Motherboard
E8400 CPU
EVGA 256-P2-N751-TR GeForce 8600 GT Video Card
Creative Soundblaster Audio Card
So, before I boot, I connected good old PS/2 Keyboard. The POST Screen comes up that says Press DEL to enter BIOS Setup... but then, it reboots.. indefinitely... I have no idea why it does that. However, if I boot the PC with no PS/2 Keyboard connected, POST screen comes up and that's it.. (no reboot). So, you see, I cannot proceed further in anyway.... I cannot go beyond POST without a keyboard, but then with the keyboard it reboots indefinitely... kinda catch 22 situation
Any suggestion / ideas that anyone can offer here???

Hello Folks... it took long time to "solve the issue that had to begin with"....
I purchased a cheapo Celeron processor to get into the BIOS and update it... but it didn't even work... I couldn't boot at all. So, I called MSI and they asked me to RMA it. They replaced my MOBO with the latest BIOS - which was good news
So, now, I'm able to boot - good news...
Now, this is an upgrade for me.... from my previous MOBO. My boot drive was RAIDed (RAID 0). So, now, I will have to RAID my drives again and run Win XP repair. I was able to RAID my drives and all good... now, I went into Windows installation and did F6 to install NVIDIA Raid.... but, here is my problem, when the prompt asks me to input the floppy drive, and when I did it.... it re-prompts me to put the floppy drive again... I see that the floppy drive is read... but, for some reason it doesn't detect the files in there properly.... I downloaded nVidia C72+MCP55 SATA RAID / AHCI Driver (For floppy driver) for windows xp 32-bit and copied the sataraid folder contents into the floppy. Now, here I am stuck again....
Anybody experienced this problem?
