Issues with Speed Ramps in Premiere CC

Hey all,
I opened a project that I copied from one drive to another and got this issue on some clips:
In the past, I've seen this happen on clips that were, say, 60fps and then being interpreted at 24fps. In this case, the original is 23.976, with only a Speed/Duration adjustment.
I tried referencing the original project on the original setup. When I frame match, it gives me TC readings that are way beyond the clips (08:52:40:00 but it only goes up to 08:52:05:00)
There are a ton of clips that have speed effects in the project but these are the only two that have this. What's wrong with them? How can I fix it?

Changing the speed on one or more of your timeline clips has resulted in these clips asking for more frames than are in the source media.  That's why you're getting the danger stripes.  It's unclear if your issue was caused by what was done to these clips in particular, or if it was caused by speed changes on other clips in the timeline.  Pay particular attention to clips immediately surrounding the problem clips.
Cheers,
Jeff

  • Experiencing issues with audio scrubbing in Premiere cc 2014

Since upgrading I've been having issues with audio scrubbing in Premiere CC 2014.
Some of the time it won't scrub at all (silence) when I know that scrubbing option is turned on. Other times it will scrub the wrong section of the timeline, I'll hear dialogue from a different point in a clip.
Much of the time I experience this I'm working with multicam clips in sequences.
Working on iMac 2013, 32GB RAM, NVIDIA 780
    thank you.

Sorry that we do not have 24-7 support. The best time to catch us is 7AM-7PM PST, Monday to Friday.

Also had no Intensity Pro external monitor which worked fine the day before. Restarted PC and still nothing so starting poking around with the playback settings in preferences by choosing Adobe Desktop audio in the audio device section choosing OK then selecting back to Blackmagic audio then hit Ok. All of a sudden there was my external monitor and was able to scrub audio again. It's like it's sleeping knowing it should work until you poke it a few times to wake it up. How my Intensity Pro external monitor and scrubbing audio being related in any way is perplexing. Or am I being obtuse?
I would contact Blackmagic Design to make sure your drivers are current. Can you try that?

  • Issues with speed changing on clips

i have a issue with speeding up clips. ive exported a slideshow and them imported it into imovie but noticed it was a bit too long..i tried speeding up the clip but when i do and try to play the clip it just shows a black screen..however if i hit backspace and revert it back to original it plays fine..any ideas whats going on? this is soo frusterating to go back and for between the two programs and be off by a few seconds? ?thanks

well the audio built into the slideshow clip im not worried about..but yes bascially its a bit too long..and for some reason the speed tool will change the width of the clip to a perfect length but then when i go to play on it and check it..i just get a black screen..its just quite irritating to have to go back and forth exporting and cause im 8 seconds to long or whatever you know. thanks everyone hopefully my descrition is better this time.
i have to try a regular video clip and see what happens..it may only be a iphoto slideshow issue.

  • Issue with ProRes importing into Premiere CC in Windows

    Hey all,
I realize the futility of using ProRes in a Windows environment, so I figured I'd just get that out of the way right off the bat.  This is how I received the footage from the client and it's too much to try and convert into another codec (though if I must, I will, I'd just like to avoid it).  Even so, I didn't really have an issue with this until I tried to work in CC.
I started this project in Premiere CS5 and was having no issues.  I received some AE files in CC and decided I'd bite the bullet and move to the latest and greatest rather than try and rebuild the projects in CS5.  I download, install, update, open up Premiere to rebuild the short edit, and then find that when I import ProRes files, all I get is audio, no video.  I can import other codecs just fine, it's just ProRes that's refusing.
I've made sure Quicktime and the Windows QT Decoder for ProRes are updated, as well as Premiere CC.  I've currently got all my work files bundled up on a drive to take to my 9 to 5 and work on a Mac on my lunch break, but for obvious reasons, I'd like to be able to work at home.
This client doesn't provide enough work to warrant a new Mac purchase, and I'm just at wit's end.  It worked fine in CS5, why not in CC?
    Here's my specs:
    Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
    Premiere Pro CC 7.0.1
    Quicktime (fully updated)
Quicktime ProRes Decoder for Windows (fully updated)
Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated!

Have you seen the WARNING here: Balanced Systems.
The warning about Quicktime makes sense.  I was aware that Quicktime 7 has never been updated to 64-bit, but the obvious 4GB RAM limitation had never occured to me.  Makes sense. I have a very decent machine, yet all of my Canon DSLR and GoPro projects are more cumbersome to edit than even AVCHD files.  I've spent a little time thinking it over and running some side-by-side tests.  MOV vs. AVI (same video) Editing, scrubbing, playback—all while running Task Manager on top.  But I didn't need task manager to tell me that the AVI plays back, layers and layers, smooth as butter.  The .MOV footage struggled to keep up with my random access cuts to different locations within the same video file.

most sane PC users would NEVER install QuickTime...
So now I'm fascinated.  So many questions:  Why do so many cameras create .MOV or .MP4 files that require QuickTime components?  64-bit QuickTime X has aparently been available on the Mac for quite a while, yet I presume they won't allow anyone else to develop a 64-bit codec for Windows, so why hasn't someone sued Apple for monopoly, anti-trust, conflict-of-interest, etc?  And most importantly, how would a sane PC user go about editing MOV and MP4 files without going insane transcoding hours of footage?

  • Having issues with speed with opening/dowloading/installing from some websites

Had speed issues with my ISP and they seem to think it is because of the browser, and that I should be using IE. Knowing my ISP is not going to take responsibilities if the fault was on their side, I did not believe it. However, when Microsoft stopped support for XP operating system, I tried to download a security program from another website and again I had nothing but problems. The program would download and some times even get all the way to be installed but the program logo would hang on for ever while installing, and I could not launch the program. If the program installed I would have to remove it before going forward. Their technical support said it was because of the browser as well. I do have IE installed but I never use it as my browser unless I have no choice. Today, my ISP rep called to solve my issue and at her request opened IE as I could go no-where with Firefox. I was right, my ISP is full of it as she could not solve my problem with or without IE. However, I left IE opened and downloaded the other program which it is now working great. Will I have to be forced to use IE so that speed and downloading improves? I hope not.

I can give a few tips.

  • Are there any known issues with speed between excel 2003 and 2010 when using WAAS?

Request asked by customer. Thought I would run this by the forum first.
Can you please raise a ticket with Cisco TAC asking why Excel files in 97-2003 file format cannot be fully optimized when compared to the same file being saved in the latest file format?
When using the latest file format, the user experience is amazing and up to 100x faster to open and save files. Our testing has identified an issue with the older file format.

I deployed WAAS about 3 years ago. Part of the deployment was before and after testing. When the users used Office 2010 the results were good. When they used Office 2003 the results were terrible. Some files took minutes to open, some never opened. Solution was to upgrade to O2010.
    Hope this helps.

  • Issues with replacing clip in Premiere with After Effects composition

So basically, i want to track a title to a piece of footage, so i've made my ins and outs and my footage is placed on my timeline in premiere with my title over top. Now I select the two pieces in premiere (the title and the clip) and I hit replace with after effects composition, and it ADOBE does it's thing etc.
but now in my AE project window I have two copies of my title file and two copies of my mp4 clip.
two of them are pre loaded into my timeline and the appropriate ins/outs which is perfect but I can't seem to do anything like tracking to them,
in my project window AE is referring to the ones that show up in the timeline as "compositions" while the extra files that aren't in the timeline are "mp4" and "psd" (the actual file types)
now. if i just delete the two "compositions" that are masquerading as files in my timeline and drag down my mp4 / psd then my tracking becomes available and all is wonderful
    EXCEPT
my in's and out's from premiere aren't there and I have to go about all of that all over again and it's very annoying
    any ideas?

Copy that! Thanks for the help as it is!
I'll likely have to do as you suggested in the interest of my turnaround but if anyone else out there has any suggestions for my original question of utilizing the dynamic link between PP and AE without the issue mentioned I'd be super stoked!

  • Issues With Speed Of FCP X

After spending countless hours on a project in Final Cut Express only to discover its poor rendering power, I ultimately decided to try and rebuild my project in FCP X - especially since I could try it for free. At first, FCP X ran fine. After a week it started to load slower and there was slight lag while working on the project - nothing too significant. Since then it's pretty much devolved into an unusable mess. My project is only 12 minutes long, yet it takes about 5-10 minutes just for it to completely load in the timeline each instance I open the program. And then when doing even the simplest of actions, it can take minutes until the "spinning wait cursor" finally disappears. It's become unbearable at this point. I've already put a significant amount of time into the rebuilt project and considering it was devastating having to start from scratch, it's especially devastating having such tremendous issues yet again.
I searched the boards and have seen that others have had similar problems. I tried some of the proposed solutions, like restarting the omputer, deleting third-party plug-ins (I only had one), and deleting render files, but none of that did anything. Would I be able to uninstall it and then re-install it even though it's a trial version? I doubt it would do a thing, but it could be worth a try.
I had intentions of buying FCP X when the trial ended, but if this is what it's going to perform like, it will be utterly worthless to me.

    1. Is there anyway to trash preferences without additional software? How can I verify that Digital Rebellion and its software is legit? How would preferences even become corrupted? Why would their corruption have such a significant impact on the running of the program?
I think you can find the preferences, but they do have less than obvious names. As to getting corrupted, I am beginning to believe the massive amount of Internet communication done by Final Cut X is actually an input-output arrangement. It is on the input side where the preferences may be affected. Preference corruption may also be due to Final Cut X, which certainly makes changes to the preferences at all times. This does NOT mean these changes are correct or for your better good.
    2. One of the first things I did was delete older versions of my project to see if that would help at all - it didn't. In fact, back when I began the trial use of FCP X, it ran perfectly fine despite my making of lots and lots of duplicates as I made my way through the learning curve.
Final Cut X also makes lots of files. My edits run into the tens of thousands of files, generally.
    3. All I have under "Render Files" in "Events" is "Peaks Data" and "Thumbnail Media". I don't even know what Peaks Data is.
Peaks, I believe are the audio waveforms.
    4. I have RAID set up on my external hard drive, but not the computer's. If I were to change permissions on the computer, could that affect the external harddrive when it's connected again?
It is only with a software RAID, made with Disk Utility, that permissions changes can mess everything up. I have seen no issues (yet) regarding hardware RAIDS.
    5. How would I be able to reinstall the trial version?
Well, with the paid version, you can just delete it, and the App Store (which peers into your computer regarding all software, by the way) will know it and allow a re-download. This might be true of the trial version as well.

    Intel Core i7 2.7ghz
    16 gig ram
    NVIDIA GTX675MX driver version 314.07 2013.2.18
Hello, I had to update the driver due to premiere stating I had an outdated driver.  After installation everything seemed fine however today when I opened premiere my source and preview windows showed black, no video.  My edits and source files were all still there.  Sound from my clips played but no video.  I have Mercury playback set to hardware.  When I switch it to software the video images return.  Has anyone else had an issue with this driver in Premiere pro and did you find a solution?  I did a search and this seems to be an issue with drivers.  Hope they fix it in the next update. Thanks.

Thank you everyone,  I just figured it out.  For some reason in my NVIDIA Control panel-Manage 3d settings-Global settings Preferred Graphics processor drop down was set to Auto-Select.  I switched it to the NVIDIA card and everything seems back to normal.  Phew!
Harm,  I used your system configuration guide to set up my system. That really helped take the confusion out of proper system configuration.  Thank you for writing that.

Also there is an issue with speeds, i have set it too 5ghz and only N. The speed is overall 0.5mb pr second or slower when i send fils. It should be around 5-10 mb pr second i think. So this is not funny

    Hi Nick,
Avoid the WD files completely, not needed & often a problem.
You need to erase the Drive, & to use it on both Format it MS-DOS/FAT32, on the Mac or PC, but will have a 4 GB filesize limit, as well as other limitations.
One option not mentioned yet is MacDrive for your PCs... allows them to Read/Write  & Format HFS+, so no need to reformat it...

  • Major CalDav and Syncing Issues with Ical and Address Book

As a CEO and business owner - I loved the move over to Mac after the intel chip as installed.  Yet, the issue of working on a Mac for business comes down to the operating system.  Up to Snow Leopard I was very pleased.... since Lion it has gone downhill.   I upgraded to Mountain Lion and many of the issues with speed and problems with mail were addressed.  Yet, it appears Apple has made a bad decision with regard to synciing to other programs.
I was told it has cut out syncing capablities for Address book and Ical (I assume other programs).  This has caused great issues for The Omni Group, File Maker and Market Cirlce (creators of Daylite) and a lot of angst for me as a business owner!
To top this off - it appears CalDav is not bi-directional and has issues.  In other words, it does not work as it should.
I am not sure what Apple was thining when it stopped allowing internal sync between programs. Yet, CalDav and CardDav are not always the answers!
I hope the CalDav issues are being cleaned up and if anyone from Apple wishes to comment on this I would appreciate it.  I have tried to talk to support but the powers to be are the ones calling the shots on software design.  Support can't fix what is broken the program.
Again, I hope Apple revisits syncing.  Maybe the concern is security but it is MY DATA not yours.  I just want the programs to work so I can make sales and support my customers efficiently.   You have made it hard to do this with changes.
    David

As an IT consultant,  i'm in agreement with Mr Utts.    The promise of "it just works" died with Steve Jobs.   Mac OS has been in freefall since 10.5 .    I need a fully functional OS,  not an iPad on my desk.  ( this means YOU Forstall !! )
Why break Samba ( a standard ),  why break WebDAV ( a standard ), why break CalDAV ( a standard )??    Apple has done ALL of these things and they seem to be doing it on purpose.
The Apple "ecosystem" is just fine,  but removing functionality as fast as you can, and removing interoperablity as fast as you can...  if Apple products ONLY work within the ecosystem... people can and will leave Apple.    You've already run off the business users by refusing to make a real Server or real Server software.   You ran off the video user with Final Cut Pro X.   Dumbing down (and breaking) the OS is running off the IT User.
Mac OS used to easily walk the line of "hard core enough for a Unix Guru,  easy enough for your Mom".  Now they just want the Moms.
And i disagree,  we are ALL "qualified to say what Apple might do about this...",  they will do nothing.   They don't beleive they have made a mistake.  They beleive WE are the problem by stubbornly insisting that things that used to work should continue to work.

  • Slow down issue with Premiere CS4 on a Mac pro

I am having a similar slow down issue with Premiere CS4 on a Mac pro, but I don't have bloated prproj file size.
Here is what I am working with:
Mac Pro intel quad core 2.8ghz
    OSX 10.6.7 Snow Leopard
    6Gigs RAM
3TB storage between 4 drives, each drive with about 50% free space
I am editing a 10 minute HD video from avchd files.  The edited video is very heavy in photoshop files with a variety of different fx including green screen.  The system has slowed down to almost a standstill.  Anytime I move the playcurser, or try to do any action, it displays the spinning top "thinking" icon and takes 15 seconds to several minutes to unfreeze.  I am often forced to force quit and I have gotten unexpected quits several times.   The program also freezes on startup frequently.
No other programs are running.  When I export with media encoder, it took about 4 hours to complete.  The last 4 or so photoshop images I added seemed to tip the program over the edge.  It had been slowing down some, but those last few really dropped the processing speed.  Before those additions, export took 30 min to 1hr.
I did delete the render files (did not check if the file size was bloated beforehand, oops) but it has not significantly affected my performance.

Do you need all of those extra pixels in the stills? Are you panning the full 4976?
Two things to consider are that if you using, say a 1920 x 1080 Sequence Frame Size, you can only see that at any time, regardless of how large the images are in pixels. If there are extra pixels, i.e. the Pan is not using all 4976 pxls., I would Scale to just what you need in PS, prior to Import.
If you are doing any Scale in PrPro, its Scaling algorithms are not as efficient, as those in PS. [Note: CS5 and 5.5 are a major improvement on that statement.]
With many large stills (the max for CS4 is 4096 x 4096, if there ARE extra pixels, pushing those around will use up resources, and quickly. As a test, some years back, I was working on a "photo wall," and was using 4000 x 4000 images. The workstation had no issues with slowness, until I got to the 5th large still. By the 8th, the Project was too slow to edit. I had to wait for everything. Luckily, I have AE, and it handles large stills much more efficiently, and much differently, than PrPro. I just moved to an AE Comp, and completed the Project, finishing up n PrPro, after I Exported from AE.
Just something to think about. With Scaling in PrPro, this is one time, where bigger is not necessarily better.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Issue with Dynamic Link with Premiere CC and After Effects

I'm having a strange and annoying issue with Dynamic linked clips in Premiere CC:
When I render or export my timeline the progress will stall when it hits a dynamic linked clip.  It will stay stalled until I click the After Effects application and make it the active window.  Once that happens the render/export resumes at normal speed.
This is annoying as I can't start a render and walk away or work on different windows, I have to babysit all the renders to make sure they go through.
Has anybody experienced this and know of any solutions?
I'm running the latest version of Premiere (7.2.1) and After Effects 12.2.0.52 on Mavericks 10.9.1 with a GTX 770 Video Card.

Does it still pause if AE is closed completely? I often experience slower AME renders from Premiere over dynamic link material when AE is open. Closing AE speeds things up. Go figure.

  • Issues with Infinity - Connection Speed & Other Pr...

    Hi all,
I had Infinity installed on 2nd November.  Besides some issues with BT mixing up delivery addresses the installation by Kelly Comms went smoothly, and was setup within 45 mins.
Initial speeds were very good, achieving 74Mb/s Down & 18Mb/s Up with a Ping/Latency of 5ms  Excellent really considering the sub 5Mb/s I was used to with ADSL.  The high connection speeds remained over the weekend until about 4pm on November 5th.  I found that the Openreach Modem had lost connection (flashing DSL light) and my HH3 Broadband light was a steady orange.  I left this for a while before picking up my landline to call customer services only to find that my line was dead with no dial tone.
Broadband eventually came back on service later that afternoon, but at a much lower speed of 43Mb/s Down, and an almost impossibly slow 0.97Mb/s Up.  Ping/Latency has also slowed to around 20ms.  During the evening I managed to get through to customer services in India, who were able to start dealing with the fault on my phone line.
Initially I was told it would be the 12th of November that the problem with the phone line would be resolved.  Fortunately enough it was then fixed the following morning by an apparent engineer visit.  I was unaware of this action until later in the day, but had noticed before leaving for work that Broadband was yet again down.
So to cut a long story short: I have a phone line that works, but a big reduction in connectivity speed especially upstream speed.  Should I be contacting BT to investigate yet another potential problem bearing in mind that I am still within the supposed '10 day training' window.
(All speed tests have been conducted via a PC connected by ethernet directly to the HH3)
If anyone can advise me it would be much appreciated.

  • New infinity line and major speed issues with almo...

    Hi,
Just has infinity installed after moving from my previous FTTC provider.  With the previous provider i was getting 16 down / 1-2 up and it worked great.
Had my my new inifnity line put in on thrsday and i am getting 17 down / 0.5 up!!
I work from home and connect to the office via vpn and remote desktop and its almost unusable.  Laggy, slow, unrepsonsive and is constantly dropping the connection with a failed to read from socket error and is making it very difficult to work form home effectively.
I have a 4g EE modem also and if i switch to this it is like lightening compared.
I also had absolutely no connection issues with my previous provider and as i posted above had a mich better uplink speed - which is where i think im getting most of my issues.
When i signed up to BT this is what i was sent via email:
We estimate your download speed will be 19.1Mb.
We estimate your upload speed will be 3.9Mb.
Im fine with the download but the uplink is shocking compared to the estimate - and as i had much better before i think something is amiss.
Also when i signed up i was told that if i had any connection issues with the new line i had to notify BT within 7 days and it woudl eb investingated but it seems there are so many roadblocks to creating support tickets etc.. Its like it s been hard to report a fault on purpose.
Where can i create a support ticket or similar to get this looked at?
    Thanks
    Damian

As you use the internet for work purposes did you have business broadband with your previous provider ?
