Issues with still images

Hi there,
I am having issues with still images in Adobe CS5.
The thumbnail preview in the Project window, the thumbnail preview in the timeline, the source monitor view and the project monitor do not always show the same picture. It seems like Premiere mistakes a picture with another one. I have tried to remove and re-import the files, but still having the same issue.
Let me explain it clearly: I use 2 pictures, say picture A and picture B.
The preview (project window), the source (source monitor) and the project monitor all show picture A when I select either Picture A or B. The thumbnail in the timeline shows picture B for both files...
Am I the only one with this issue ? I've tried to look for people with a similar experience, but I have not found anything...
Thanks for your help.
Nicolas.

  • Any issues with still images being too large?

I am going to be given lots of images that were scanned at a high resolution (I think 300), so the file size and physical dimensions should be pretty large. I want to start placing these images into the timeline, even though I do not know yet which ones I will need to zoom in on and which I will not need to do anything with other than just have it display.
1.) Are there any issues with placing lots of images like these into the timeline of a SD project at a higher resolution and larger physical dimension than maybe necessary?
2.) If I want to use placeholder images, is there an easy way to later swap them with the real image, and have the swapped image take the properties of the placeholder image, such as the duration it lasts on screen and the fade transition before and after it?
    Thank you.

This is dependent on the version of FCP. If you're working with FCP 5.1.2 or later, still image processing is handled by the GPU. Depending on what graphics card you've got, it can be painfully slow even at SD resolutions because image size (pixel dimensions, not bit-depth) is what is relevant.
2.) If I want to use placeholder images, is there an easy way to later swap them with the real image, and have the swapped image take the properties of the placeholder image, such as the duration it lasts on screen and the fade transition before and after it?
In theory, you should be able to do a Paste Attributes and paste Contents but that functionality has been broken since FCP 5.x. It works, but not for the very thing that you'd need it to do - both images now need to be the same size, duration and matching timecode for this to work correctly in your case.
However, you might be able to work around that limitation by trying this:
Select your placeholder image in the timeline and copy (Commmand-C)
Load your final image into the Viewer and press F11 to perform a Replace Edit.
Be mindful of where your Playhead is in both the Viewer and Timeline, of course, as the Replace Edit uses the Playhead and not marked In or Out
Select the newly replaced image and perform a Paste Attributes (Option-V), selecting the relevant attributes (Basic Motion, Crop, etc)
Of course, this might not suit what you're looking to do since stuff like Center is pixel-based rather than percentage-based (like Crop is).

  • Have discovered how to split visual and audio tracks. However the cut away only seems to work with still images from iPhoto!

trying to cut away from one video clip to a second one, while keeping the original sound track, works with still images imported from iPhoto, but cant get the video to drag/drop. please help thanks

OK that sounds correct. Just to clarify, when the sign appears, as you release the mouse button (or whatever you are using), no menu pops up but the clip immediately positions itself:
at the front of the target clip, OR
at the very beginning of your project
Not sure where I'm heading here, just trying to get the complete picture.
I di it once, but not again, do i need to double click/right click or something?
No, there is no double-click or right-click involved at all. Just drag and drop, then select from the pop-up menu. You should be able to repeat this with no issues. I've also tested dropping video onto a still picture - the cutaway works on that as well.
Something is definitely not working correctly - strange! Quit iMovie, then try deleting the preference file as I described in my last post. Quitting and relaunching iMovie might even fix it. Also, try restarting your Mac - that sometimes helps.

  • Issue with CS6 Image in CC

Has anyone come across an issue with opening a CS6 file with luminosity, and other effects applied where when you open it in CC it drops most all the effects? Any solutions to this? I still need to be able to manipulate the artwork in CS6 and CC and allow others to open it but am concerned that the effects are dropping off. When I opened it in CC the artwork was completely changed due to colors changing and effects disappearing.

I don't have a direct answer to your question, as I still run CS6, but I do read this forum daily and I don't remember seeing any other complaints about your problem. As hard as that might make it for you to get substantive help, it might lead to a better understanding of the problem if you restate it with more specific details and better attention to your terminology. Here's what I mean:
Issue with CS6 Image in CC
Thread title says "image," which is a term most commonly applied to raster images as opposed to native Illustrator vector art. Nothing else in the post makes it clear whether your problem pertains to raster images, vector graphics, or both.
..with luminosity, and other effects applied...
Some ambiguity there too. Luminosity is a Blend Mode, whereas Effects are really something different. Again, it's not clear whether your problem pertains to Blend Modes, Effects, or both.
When I opened it in CC the artwork was completely changed due to colors changing and effects disappearing.
This sounds like a particular instance involving a particular file, but it's not clear whether your problem pertains to just one file, or several, or all. It would really help to post a detailed description of one instance, including the file contents, any/all Blend Modes and/or Effects used, and specifically, which ones drop away and exactly how it affects the outcome.

  • How to export a short  film made with still images without loosing quality?

    Hi,
I have been trying everything to make a short film, which is made with still images, to look decent once exported however it is a real challenge. Here are the steps I have undertaken:
1- I prepare the photographs and give them the aspect ration of 720p and whatever height as I try not to crop them too much at 300dpi. They look great in photoshop or capture one. I then save them as.tiff. All the images are RGB.
2- I start a new project in premiere pro cs4 and make it DV Pal 25fps.
3-I import the images and place them on the timeline. If they are a bit too big I rescale them. The images seem to look ok on the timeline although I seem to have lost the deepness of the colours.
    4-I render the work area
5-I export it as quicktime, dv pal, quality 100.
My dilemna is that although exporting with quicktime, dv pal, quality 100 seems to give me the best quality compared to using quicktime animation, mpeg2, cinemak, avi..., the images are still not as sharp as in Photoshop and the colours look a lot paler and washed out. Also, when looking close to the screens you can see tiny squares on the images although from distance it's not too bad. When I view it from the exported file using Nero it's not too bad although definitely not perfect, as soon as I try to make a DVD and import it in Adobe Encore CS4 or send it by Dynamic Link, the quality looks horrible with images that look soft if not blurred and completely washed out.
I have now tried about t bu15 versions to see what 's the best I still have not reached the optimum quality and since these will be shown on big tvs or projected onto screens I need to nail it.
Would anybody have any advice please please please?
    Many Thanks

My overall advice is to do that kind of work in an application that is designed for that.  Give Photodex Proshow Producer trial a crack at it.  I do a lot of work with stills, and that IMO PSP is the best approach.  If you are intermixing the odd still, Pr may get you by.  If you plan on doing a lot of that, try proshow, where the workflow and extensive features are designed for making high quality videos from stills that can be output to a wide number of formats and destinations, including color management with many of them( including avi).  And, no need to resize.  I know this won't solve your present problem.
Obviously, your attempt in Pr has not worked out as you had hoped. Maybe a bit more info would help. How are you rescaling them in Pr? That might well account for some quality loss. What is the original format and size of the images? What color management are you using in PS? Are you using any color correction or effects in Pr? Is your project interlaced or progressive?
From your description,  you are not even getting the quality you should be getting from Pr IMO, though as Jim says, it is video and it will never look as pristine as it does in PS, but it still seems to me that something you are doing has degraded the work more than normally would be expected.

  • Crash with still images and keyframes?

Has anyone experienced a HARD crash on Premiere Pro CS6 (v6.0.2) mac when working with still images on the timeline & adding keyframes to add slight movement to those images?
without adding keyframes, the images seem to sit happily in my sequence but as soon as I add keyframes, it crashes so hard I can't switch to another application, force quit, or anything except a hard restart.
Premiere has been pretty damn solid for me since the latest update and since I went to 16GB RAM so this is surprising and frustrating.
    any advice will be appreciated.

  • Aperture 3.2.1 still issues with sorting images in albums, after making adjustments, cannot use arrow keys to go to next image. straightening tool auto turns image prior to straightening inconsistantly

Have updated aperture to 3.2.1, still having some issues during editing images.
    1. Basic item is sorting images does not happen correctly, move some images in file, they don't move correctly, after trying to move several, then they almost randomly move around.
    2. Straightening tool will automatically tilt images as soon as you touch the tool, turns them on about a 30 degree angle clockwise.
    3. Arrows on right side of keyboard used to move images in browser from the editing position, they move them if no editing is done, once you edit an image, cannot move to the next image using the arrow keys.

Oh, baby! This bad boy flies!! Here's what to expect:
I had 40,000 images in Aperture 3 and it was dog slow at everything. I installed 3.1 update today. It took 5 minutes to update the database and then behaved marginally better than before at ASIC library navigation. I was disappointed.
Then I QUIT the app. It took a couple of hours to "update files for sharing" with a counter that went to 110,000 images. So it must have updated every thumbnail and variation of preview. Turned it back on , and BAM. Came up fully in seconds. Paused for 10 seconds ten everything was lickrty split. For the first time ever, I can use the Projects view with all 791 projects and scroll quickly. I even put it in photos modevand whipped thru all 49,000 images!
Haven't done anybprocessing yet, but i'm liking it!!

  • Problem with still image quality 1920 x 1080 HD Export

    Hey everyone ---
Question that I can't seem to find a clear answer for -- maybe you can help !
I am producing a film and am exporting it using the H264 setting, square pixels, CBR. Video quality is wonderful --- but I am having an issue with a still image. Essentially, I am importing an image of a film logo at the beginning of my film. The image is vector, dropped into photoshop from illustrator, saved as either an EPS or jpg, then I import that into the timeline. Once exported, video looks crisp and beautiful, but the logo at the beggining has slightly jagged edges and is NOT crystal sharp super clear as it should be or as it was saved as.
I've tried a few things but can't seem to get the formula right. I tried adjusting frame size, doesn't work. I tried bringing in a HUGE image and scaling it down, again, doesn't work. I've used many versions of premiere (since 6.0) and I don't remember ever having this sort of problem. I've tried all the frame sizes, from 1440 x 1080 to 1920 x 1080 (my source footage) and it just doesn't like to render the image crisply.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks !

Create a new .psd in Photoshop (using the Film and Video templates) that match your sequence settings.  Bring the vector image into PS and add it on a second layer to that new .psd.  Save out that .psd as a .png with no Interlacing.
Bring that into PP for use in the sequence.

  • Premiere Pro CC Export issue on still images

    Premiere CC latest version 2014.
Hey guys. So I've recently had some serious problems on a couple of projects where I have exported videos with stills (jpegs) in the timeline, and they flicker or have dark lines running through when exported to h264 files - but only on the still images. It is not interlace issues. The exports have odd dark lines flickering over that portion of the export file. The video elements in the timeline seem to export fine though. It has happened on both my main desktop PC on a large complicated edit and on my VAIO laptop on another separate projects that was a very simple talking head with JPEG overlays. So I don't think its an isolated issue in a particular project or on a particular graphics card. Is this a bug in Premiere?
This is a serious problem that got me into trouble this evening on a quick turn around job and I couldn't export a decent version of my timeline.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi James,
This is a serious problem that got me into trouble this evening on a quick turn around job and I couldn't export a decent version of my timeline.
    Any suggestions?
Sorry about that. Did you apply any effects? If so, what were they and with which combinations? Did you apply effects to clips or to adjustment layers?
    Thanks,

  • How to Work With Still Images in Premiere Elements 10

I am struggling with the still images in my Titles for my video project, and would really appreciate some help. I have done a lot of googling on this and searched this forum, but can't seem to find the answer I need, maybe not searching the right questions or just "not getting it".  Not even PE Adobe tips or Adobe TV cover this, although it seems important to know. I am not clear how PE10 will handle the resolution of an imported still image or graphic art from Photoshop. Perhaps this topic will also help others as well.
I am working on a video project for my job, editing an old training video. Created new Title graphics in Photoshop, inserted the Title images and integrated with video clips, then exported the video segments as MPEG files.  I burned the whole video to DVD.
When the final DVD plays on a computer or TV screen, the photo images in the titles are fuzzy even though they were clear 300 dpi images. (I know dpi doesn't matter in video). The title text is also a bit fuzzy and the title text that has animation applied to it is even more fuzzy. Yet the old MPEG video clips look fine - it's just my title graphics and text that look bad (embarrasing).
So I need to know how to improve the quality of the still images/graphics for a video??
    Project settings:
    - Hard Disk, Standard 48kHz
    - Editing Mode: DV NTSC
    - Frame: 720 x 480 (0.9091)
    - Frame rate: 29.97fps
    - with "Optimize Stills" box checked
Using these settings because I am working with MPEG files from an old training video CD.
File Export: MPEG, NTSC DVD Standard
I export the video clips as MPEGS because they will be burned to a CD or DVD for distribution to our staff offices.
    Work Details:
In Photoshop, I created still image graphics for each Title sized at 720 x480 with high resolution photos and company logo (300 dpi), and save them as a bitmap to import into PE10.  In the Timeline, I insert the still image in "Video 1" track, then in Video 2 track create a Title over it for text (some animated, some still). Sometimes I stack 2 or three titles with text in separate video tracks over one still title image. Yes, there is a red line across the top in the Timeline because I didn't render the still images.
    Questions:
    • What is the best resolution for images imported into PE10 from Photoshop?
    • Should I be creating title graphics/images at 720 x 480 or a larger ratio like 1920 x 1080 so it will display better when seen on a computer or TV?
    • Do I need to render each title image in the timeline so that it will eventually display better in the MPEG?
    • Is it better to create a title and then insert the still image into the title so they are integrated, rather than layered on separate video tracks?
I would greatly appreciate any assistance.

Remember that DVD-Video was designed for CRT TV sets, and was a major step up from VHS tape. However, when viewed on an HD computer monitor, or HD TV *, it is still ONLY 720 x 480, with is about 1/4 of the resolution as 1920 x 1080, which is about what we are used to seeing on those display devices. That is but only 25% of the quality. It can never look as good as HD material.
Good luck, and if I missed something, please point that out to me.
    Hunt
    * With the advent of BD players, and up-rezzing DVD players, things HAVE improved, when viewing a DVD-Video on an HD TV. The newer players have up-rezzing chips, that do a very good job of "improving" the viewed material's quality. However, even with those amazing chips, DVD-Video will NEVER be as good as a full-HD source. Also, computers do not have those up-rezzing chips, so when one views a DVD-Video on a high-rez computer monitor, it will still look pretty bad. There ARE a couple of new DVD software players, that improve the quality of DVD-Video played on a high-rez computer monitor, and a few look fairly promising. I speculate that we will see some more development in the DVD-Video area, especially as BD is not proving to be the big seller, that many promised. Even 3D is not helping BD realize its promise.

  • Critical issue with exporting images in iPhoto 08?

I have been exporting selected photos to a thumb drive under iPhoto 06. I then take the thumb drive and put it in a pioneer palsma and go to GALLERY mode. Works fantastic and I can then review the images with my clients. Never had a problem with iPhoto 06. I upgraded to iPhoto 08 recently and export selected photos to the thumbdrive under the new upgrade. When I go to Gallery mode on the plasma the photos do not come up and it hangs up the plasma..... ??? Seems to be a problem somewhere with what "08" does with the photos? I ran a number of different test with two different thumb drives using photos from iPhoto 08 and cannot get them to work. I go back to an old iMac that was not upgraded to iPhoto 08 and both thumb drives they work fine on the plasma. In fact it is almost impossible to mess the operation up with "06". I have tried to export the photos in "08" in all the various size options and still no success. I would appreciate any help to this critical problem I am facing since I use this function of showing my images on a plasma on a daily basis . After about 10 to 12 hours of working htis problem I am totally loss as what to do. Thanks for your time.

    Thanks for your reply.
    1. I select the photos from iPhoto - varied between 5 and 20 (ran different test)
    2. Click on FILE
    3. Select EXPORT
    4. Under the FILE EXPORT tab I have tried all the various options with no success
    5. KIND - I make sure they are JPEG files - I have tried the Original also which is actually JPEG files
    6. JPEG QUALITY - I have tried all 4 options from LOW to MAX
    7. SIZE - I tried all 4 size options from SMALL to FULL
    8. FILE NAME - I use filename
    9. Select EXPORT tab
    10. I export to the thumbdrive and I chcek and they are on the thumbdrive
    11. I also tried to EXPORT to the desktop and copy them to the thumbdrive
I click on the photos on the exported images I placed on the thumb drive and they come up fine on PREVIEW on my MAC. No prroblem with the images until I try to use them on the plasma. I go back and use images from iPhoto 06 that I did not call up with the "08" program and they work fine.
Hope that explains what I do. Thanks again

  • Issues with Library images updating in Captivate

Getting some update issues with the Library. This used to
work, but is now working only intermittently.
I will locate a background slide in the library, then hit
CTRL+U to open it in Photoshop. I'll make my edits in Photoshop,
then save and close the Window in Pshop. This used to bring me back
into Captivate, and I would see the correct image in the main
editing screen. However, now when I come back into Captivate, the
main editing screen will not show the edits, nor will the thumbnail
on the left side. If I pres CTRL+U to open the image back in
Photoshop, Photoshop shows the new edits, but not Captivate's
design mode. The images DO show up when I finally publish, but I
can't publish every time I need to check to see whether the edit
made it over. Also, if I select the image in the Library and click
the Update button, I get an "image cannot be updated" error
    message.
What was a very nice feature is now causing mucho frustration
    because it isn't working consistently.
Any thoughts? I've supposedly updated to patch 3.2, though
    Captivate is only showing 3.0.1.589.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Mark
...but the thing that really bugs me is that this a workaround
for functionality that is supposed to work.
I agree completely. Unfortunately, last time I checked,
Captivate was software. And well, you know. Sometimes things don't
work expected with software so we find workarounds to overcome what
    fails.
At this point the best course of action is to use the
workaround since the other method is failing. Then be certain to
report the issue to Adobe via their official preferred channel.
    That is the Wish Form.

  • CS5 Live Caption Issue with Anchored Images

For some reason, InDesign will not let me add a live or static caption if it is anchored in the body. I can put it on the pasteboard and add it but not while it is anchored. Does anyone know of a work-around?

    Hi Richard,
I have the same problem as you do. I'm working on user manuals, with hundreds of screen captures I want to flow with text. The Live caption feature is wonderful, only it does not work with anchored images! If anyone out there finds a way to deal with this issue, or knows of a patch or update to download...

  • TIFF export date issue with 40D images

    Hi.
I have a strange issue with Aperture 1.5.6, Leopard 10.5 and Canon 40D RAW images.
    The problem is this:
    1) Import a 40D RAW image in aperture.
    2) The exif image date is 13.11.07 20:21:10.
    3) Then edit the image in Adobe Photoshop CS3 (TIFF).
    4) Now we have two version of the image: the original RAW file and a TIFF file.
    5) Export the two images with aperture to JPEG files.
Now the exif date/time of the image exported (RAW) is 13.11.07 20:21:10 and that's correct.
The problem is that the time of the second image (TIFF) has exactly two more hour ( 13.11.07 22:21:10 ).
In aperture the date/time is correct for both the images.
Someone can please try to replicate this issue?

    Thanks for your reply.
