Issues with the internet...

Okay, I have had my MacBook since May and have since then had on and off again problems with wireless connections.
Every few weeks or so, it seems, I have almost a full wireless signal, yet no internet connection. I run diagnostics, I look through the Network Setup Assistant and one thing seems to come up repeatedly: There is no IP address.
I am always connected to an SMC network (which doesn't need a password) at home or the my college's network when I am there. I've not had any issue connecting at school unless I am out of range of a Wi-Fi hotspot. At home, however, it refuses to connect. I am not exactly savvy to all the ins and outs of internet connections, and I never needed a router before so I don't really see a need for one now. Even when I hook up the Ethernet cable from the house's computer modem, I cannot connect to the internet, it gives itself its own IP address.
I am using Safari v. 3.1.2 and FireFox v. 3.0.1, if that helps anyone.
Is there anyone who can help me figure this out?

Who is your ISP at home, and what did they tell you about the servers you needed to enter when setting up their service? Did they give you some sort of software to install on your Mac to setup their service for you automatically?
Even if you're using AirPort, it's based on the location of your service, since you typically have to login to a WiFi network. So if you're at college, logging into their network will be a different location than being at home. So you'd need to create a new Location for that circumstance in System Preferences with the settings to use AirPort when you're at home on your ISP's network.
If nothing else, call your ISP and ask them to walk you through the process of setting up your system to work at home with via WiFi.

    I don't know if this is happening to you too, but after installing the last Brothers Printer Drivers, browsing of the internet is become a nightmare. Sites like macrumors.com or slashgear.com are not reachable anymore. Is like the mDNSResponder is not hitting the right DNS Query.
    I will post this also in the Networking forum, but I this is happening after installing the Brothers update. And is happening on 3 different laptop.
    Please HELP.

  • Audio issues with the internet

    For some reason and all of a sudden I cant hear the audio on the internet.  I have checked YOUTUBE (APP) and music and all of that and it works but I cant get any sound to come out when I am on the internet.  Does anyone have any ideas of how to help or to remedy the problem?

    I have listed some steps below that may help.
    1.      Ensure that all volume levels are set to the appropriate level (e.g. media, system volumes) before accessing the web.
    2.      Try clearing cookie data, cache, and history. To do this please follow the instruction below:
    -Open the Internet icon.
    -Select menu.
    -Select more.
    -Select settings.
    -Select Clear all cookie data and select ok. **Some cookies contain customized preference and logon information for previously visited websites. Once deleted, the website may prompt for this information again.
    -Select Clear cache and select ok.
    -Select Clear history and select ok.
    3.   Try clearing the data in manage applications. To do this please follow the instruction below:
    -Select Menu
    -Select Settings
    -Select Applications
    -Select Manage Applications
    -Select All (located at the top)
    -Select Internet icon
    -Select Clear cache (please be advised that all saved bookmarks will be removed)
    -Select Clear data (please be advised that all saved bookmarks will be removed)
    4.    As previously recommended, try programming the device. *228 option 1 (***Nothing will be removed, lost, or replaced by this action)
    5.    Complete a soft reset (power the device off, remove the battery, place it back in, and power it back on) ***Nothing will be removed, lost, or replaced by this action.

  • HP Pavilion 15t Issues with Limited Internet Connectivity on Windows 8

    So, I just received my new HP Pavilion 15t-e000 CTO Notebook PC last week, it runs Windows 8, & it's a 64 bit.
    The only problem I've had is staying connected to my wireless Internet. The connection will cut out at random intervals saying "Limited" instead of "Connected". I constantly have to disconnect and connect to my wireless Internet. It is especially frustrating when I am trying to download something that takes longer than a couple of minutes because the Internet connection cuts out and I have to start the process all over again.
    I have tried pretty much every "fix" people have posted that have worked for some people. No such luck for me. Sometimes it seems like it will stay connected and then I try to connect to a web page or download something and it goes out again.
    - Turning off the "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power" under Power Management in the Properties section of my Wireless connection.... DID NOT WORK
    - Using the command prompt to reset the network adapter ... DID NOT WORK
    - Running the Network and Internet and whatever else Troubleshooters ... DID NOT WORK ***Update: If I run the network connection test via the HP Help/Support center on my desktop while the connection says Limited, I receive the notice that the "default gateway was not available" and the router was reset and issue fixed, etc. BUT, if I run the test while the wireless says Connected, the test always says there is no problem. And even though the test "fixed" the issue, it didn't because the Internet always cuts out again.
    - Windows Updates has installed new updates a few times ... DID NOT WORK
    - Forgetting the Wireless Network and Setting it Up as a new one again ... DID NOT WORK
    - Using my computer right next to my wireless router ... DID NOT WORK
    The wireless router being used is: Cisco Linksys Wireless-G 2.4GHz Broadband Router and our network is WPA with a security code. We also have a SpeedStream DSL Internet thing (sorry, I don't know what it is called). The compatibility center says this router is compatible with Windows 8 by the way. Other computers running Windows 7 and Windows Vista, iPhones, and iPads all work fine.
    My laptop uses Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230 and the light is on and it always says "device is working properly" in Properties.
    Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated because I am at my wits end.

    So, it seems my issue with the Limited Internet connection has been resolved. I didn't use my computer for two days and this afternoon when I turned it on I was still having issues. However, I went into the HP Support Assistant and it popped up that I had some updates to download and install, so I let it do its thing. It took a while because the Internet kept cutting out, but once the update for the Intel Wireless finally installed, my connection has STAYED CONNECTED. Finally!
    I don't know why when I went into the wireless properties it said "device is working properly" and when I tried to Update the driver it said "your driver is the latest version" or whatever.
    I suggest you go to the HP Support Assistant and check for updates in the "Updates and Tune-Ups" section. It was kind of random, but knock on wood my Wireless connection issue looks to be gone.

  • Linksys E4200 - has to reboot to connect again with the internet

    I bought the E4200 a month ago (replaced D-link DIR-655) and since then I have to reboot it twice.
    I have a NAS connected to the router (and router to cable modem) and sometimes I have to FTP files from abroad. If I use the FTP too much time the E4200 just loose connectivity with the internet. Once home I have to reboot it in order to connect again with the internet. It never happen me before with the D-Link.
    Does anybody has a similar problem?

    Actually mine is working great now, almost as if it had a break-in period.
    Mine has not flashed once in the past day (or more) and the last time I rebooted it was Wednesdsay evening (only to see if I could stop the flashing which was still happening
    at that time).
    I was also online on an interactive (gaming / gambling) site that is very quick to report what it considers "disconnects" if it sees any weakness in the connection to its servers and when using the E4200 it did NOT disconnect a single time all day yesterday.
    (My Belkin N1 Vision wireless router connection via my Rosewill RNX-N1 USB adapter had been "disconnecting" multiple several days in a row although I was able to surf the web without issues while it reported me as disconnected).
    Possible reasons everything is fine:
    1) I placed the router's four ridiculously tiny feet on four thick wooden drink coasters
    to give it more breathing room.
    The flashing stopped a day or two later... (Keep in mind the router is less than a week old, so the reason it stopped flashing could be unrelated).
    My wireless signal strength does seem to be sensitive to a 5.8 GHz cordless phone strangely even though it is a 2.4 GHz wireless adapter.
    Just turning the phone (which has an INternal anntenna and is about 3 1/2 feet away from my wireless adapter at the moment) 15 or 20 degrees immediately changed the wireless signal quality from 4 bars to 3 bars and vice versa!!! 
    2) As far as my needing to reboot it that one time (during the first full day I owned the E4200):
    I had been switching between two different model Rosewill wireless adapters a few times that afternoon (same chipset, same driver I believe and even show up as
    same device in 32 bit Windows 7 Device Manager) without restarting the router after each switch
    Since that one reboot, everything has been fine and my connection has been solid (pingtest.net tests over wireless produce an 'A' and speed has been for the most part relatively stable at 130 Mbps).
    I hope thay helps others here (especially Part 1 above).
    So overall I am extremely happy now.
    I now just need to see what the implications are by the current lack of official IPv6 support in the E4200 (will post separately about that).
    I noticed that my "IPv6 connectivity" on the wireless connection showed "no internet".
    I just ran some IPv6 tests online (on two separate sites) and they passed and, lo and behold, now it shows "internet access" (again) for IPv6 (and not just IPv4 as it did before)!

  • Is the Time Capsule wi-fi router compatible with the Nest thermostat? I've read where there are issues with the Nest and Airport Extreme (AE)? Is AE used in the Time Capsule?

    If so, i already have a wi-fi router, so can the Time Capsule simply be used for wireless backup instead of as a router if there is conflict?

    A TC is fundamentally a AE with a sata chip included to drive the hard disk. Some slightly different bios to include disk functions, although most of those are also on the AE. So as a router it is 99.999% identical.
    And yes, if you have another router you can easily bridge the TC and use wireless for backups and internet connection. Once you no longer route through the TC the issues with most NAT problems including port forwarding should disappear.. mostly this is due to all apple routers using NAT-PMP instead of upnp which is the near universal standard for opening ports.. without upnp apple keep their routers more exclusive.

    It was released 6 days ago, so it might enable that option for you. It can't hurt to try it out. If not, you might just have to hold out a little bit until they update the driver.

  • Anybody else having issues with the new 1.1??

    For some reason, I have encountered two issues already.. Whenever I'm exporting my galleries as web pages, nothing happens! It creates a null folder that I specify but then doesn't export any photos or html pages.. If I delete the folder and do it again, the exact same way, for some miracle it then begins to export.. There is no logical explanation and its clear that its a bug..
    Also, when exporting multiple images into CS2, that also fails for me.. It only opens up one picture and even though the others are selected, it doesn't seem to do the trick.. Its not my computer because i have a brand new quad w/ 4 gigs of memory.. I didn't encounter either of these issues with the older version..
    Anybody else??

    I tried both, and was successfull both times.
    External Edit:
    1. I selected 2 images (D200 RAW images).
    2. Right clicked to get the contextual menu and selected Open with External Editor (I have my prefs set up for Photoshop).
    3. Both images opened in Photoshop.
    I can't image it being system specific. What camera and file type are you using?

  • Issues with the Surface Pro 3's pen in Photoshop CS6

    I used photoshop CS6 with no problems on my old computer that was connected to a graphics tablet.
    However, I recently bought a new windows computer called the Surface Pro 3. Everything works perfectly with the trackpad and touch, but I've had some issues with the Surface pen.
    The pen can draw on the canvas, but whenever I click something on any of the windows with the pen, the entire application freezes and I would have to click the computer's taskbar at the bottom to unfreeze the application.
    It's impossible to work like this. Is there any solution to fix this problem? It says that the version of photoshop I have is Adobe Photoshop Version: 13.1.2

    If you have Photoshop CS6 version 13.1.2 which is the Subscription version of Photoshop,  You shoule  Isstall Photoshop CC 2014 on your surface Pro 3.  It will work without problems on the surface Pro 3 and you will also have the option have the option to use Photoshop CC 2014 preference 2x UI to scale Photoshop's UI up in size on your Surface Pro 3.
    If you do not have a subscription the Perpetual version of windows CS6 should be version 13.0.1.3.  In that case the only way to scale Photoshop UI is to have windows do it. You would need to to update your windows 8.1 registry and add an external Photoshop manifest file in your Photoshop CS6 folder.  To get the Surface Pro 3 pen to work with Photoshop you would need to install NTig pen device drivers the support the wintab APIs.
    You will not be able to use Photoshop without a keyboard popping up the windows onscreen keyboard is too cumbersome.  You can use a utility like Touchkey to create Overlay touch keys on Photoshop and use Photoshop without a keyboard.

    The answers would be the following:
    1200 cells per custom section (NEW COUNT), and up to 30 custom sections per spec.
    Assuming all will be populated, and this would apply to all final material specs in the system which could be ~25% of all material specs.
    The cells will be numeric, free text, drop downs, and some calculated numeric.
    Are we reaching the limits for UI performance?

    Design issue with the multiprovider :
    I have the following problem when using my multiprovider.
    The data flow is like this. I have the info-objects IobjectA, IobjectB, IobjectCin my Cube.(Source for this data is s-systemA)
    And from another s-system I am also loading the masterdata for IobjectA
    Now I have created the multiprovider based on the cube and IobjectA.
    However, surprisingly join in not workign in multiprovider correctly.
    Scenario :
    Record from the Cube.
    IObjectA= 1AAA
    IObjectB = 2BBB
    IObjectC = 3CCC
    Records from IobjectA =1AAA.
    I expect the record should be like this :
    IObjectA : IObjectB: IObjectC
    1AAA       :2BBB       :3CCC
    However, I am getting the record like this:
    IObjectA : IObjectB: IObjectC
    1AAA       :2BBB       :3CCC
    1AAA         : #             :#
    In the Identification section I have selected both the entries for IobjectA still I am getting this error.
    My BW Version is 3.0B and the SP is 31.

    The record in the multiprovider should be :

    Because, this is what the Union says .. and the Definition of the multiprovider also says the same thing :

  • Issue with the App Store showing up blank.

    Issue with the App Store, it will not let me search for new apps.  The screen is blank.  The update section and features section works, but it will not let me search for new apps. I have restarted my phone and no changes. The newest update to the iphones when the iphone 5 came out, i think, messed up this app.  When i am looking at how to fix it, it tells me to delete it and try again, but the App store is not a deletable app.  Any ideas why my App store, specifically the search section of this app doesn't work?

    I suspect it is on Apple's side of things. Mine was blank too, but now it works again. Fixed itself one morning.
