Issues with U410 downgrade to windows 7

Hi all,
I have a U410 with windows 8. After being frustrated with windows 8, and without proper research, I formatted the C drive to install Windows 7.
I am not able to access the BIOS mode now. I have the windows 7 bootup USB, but not able to change the boot order.
When I restart my laptop, it directly goes to "Preparing Automatic repair" and then it fails.
Mine is a dead brick now. Any comments/suggestions is greatly appreciated.
I am even ok with reinstalling windows 8 to have a working laptop.

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your downgrading the Notebook. This has to do with Microsoft. Here is document on downgrading from 8.1 to Windows 7.
It should be as easy to insert the disk and restart the Notebook and follow the prompts.

HP doesn't recommend the installation of Windows 7 on a computer shipped with Windows 8, nor will it support the installation of Windows 7. HP will not provide Windows 7 drivers and suitable drivers may not be available for the hardware in the computer. Also, Windows 7 may not support some of the hardware or software features designed for the computer.
Make sure you create your HP Recovery Discs or USB Flash Recovery media before modifying or changing ANYTHING.
Here is a link to your HP driver page. Any drivers in the Device manager that have a yellow exclamation mark or yield sign are not installed correctly. I would right click and uninstall. Once all have been removed restart the Notebook.
Some options and features will not be available to Windows 7.

any known issues with illustrator 10 and windows 8...version worked fine on windows xp....new computer with windows 8....now cannot seem to operate. Loads, and shows access but will NOT start up. help ! thanx ttp74

AI 10 is now 10 years or so old and was never tested on nor designed for Win 7 or Win 8. You should simply assume it's not compatible and will never run properly. feel free to spend your time with the compatibility modes and al lsorts of hacking with the security stuff and otehr settings, but to be honest, it will probably be a waste of time.

CS3 worked just fine but had many issues with Bridge CS3. So frustrating that the $$ to upgrade to CS4 seem worth it. Mostly works OK with the following exceptions:
1. Sometimes the file menu selections are non-selectable grey including fundamental functions like Open and Exit not even clicking on the x will allow PS to close! I found a workaround, I can select a tool that is not currently selected (like the crop or brush) and now the menu items appear.
2. The Arrange Documents drop down menu is blank except for the lower text portion. All icons are missing. Roll over text popup shows what is supposed to be on the menu but no icons.
3. I have setup Bridge CS4 to auto start at logon. Works OK but sometimes for whatever reason stays busy after I close. Task Manager shows Bridge using up to 25% of CPU time and the program is not even open!
5. I purchased a couple Canon EOS 50Ds as backup cameras for our business. Worked last week with CS3 and Bridge with Raw 4.6 upgrade. Does not work with RAW 5.0 in CS4bummer!

I had the same problem with blank/missing "Arrange Documents" icons. And I use NIK and OnOne plugins (CS4 & Vista). These plugins are all supposed to be compatible with CS4 and I use them ALOT - so I refused to remove them. Today I also started having a problem with an error re: needing to install a printer before I could select print functions.
I found the answer to both problems!! While researching the error message I found information from Adobe support stating that you should:
1. Quit Photoshop
2. Vista: Rename the Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Adobe Photoshop CS4 Settings\Adobe Photoshop CS4 Prefs.psp file to Adobe Photoshop CS4 Prefs.old
Windows XP path: Documents and Settings/[username]/Application Data/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS4/Adobe Photoshop CS4 Settings/Adobe Photoshop CS4 Prefs.psp
3. Start Photoshop - it will create a new preferences file.
My print error message is gone AND I have Arrange Documents icons!!!

On googling this seems to be an issue with java file handling on windows servers and I couldn't find a solution yet. Any recommendation or pointer is appreciated

I just analyzed your partial Thread Dump data, the problem is that the ajax4jsf framework ResponseWriterContentHandler triggers internally a new instance of the DocumentBuilderFactory; every time; triggering heavy IO contention because of Class loader / JAR file search operations.
Too many of these IO operations under heavy load will create excessive contention and severe performance degradation; regardless of the OS you are running your JVM on.
Please review the link below and see if this is related to your problem.. This is a known issue in JBOSS JIRA when using RichFaces / ajaxJSF.

I have an issue with the tabs and windows disappearing....?

I have a constant problem with Firefox now. I notice that with Firefox 4 and 5 there has been a reoccurring problem with the tabs and windows closing on their own. If I have more than one window open, one of them will suddenly disappear and I wont see the tab at the bottom anymore until I click out of the one I am currently on. It is very annoying and only when I get out of Firefox completely will it sometimes reappear. Even more frightening is the fact that when I move the mouse downward to the bottom of the page the page shuts out as if I clicked out of it.
I am wondering if this is a security issue meaning some type of malware or virus that is manipulating my browser or is this a common issue that has some unknown cause? I would like to know what the cause is and how it can be fixed because it annoys me all the time. Please help!!

I recently discovered a severe Security issue with the windows sharing an permission settings:
I have two users, an admin user and a parental controlled user. On my mac mini, i have a external harddrive connected. On the harddrive, i have three folders, Itunes, Iphoto (Package) and a Temp Folder. I want to share the Harddrive RW for the admin, but only R for the parental user. But the Temp folder should be accessible for RW for the parental as well.
1. I set the Drive checkbox "ignore ownership" off.
2. I set the permissions of the drive to admin RW, parental R and Everyone to "no access"
3. I apply to enclosed Items
4. I set the permission of the Temp folder to admin RW, parental RW and Everyone to "no access"
5. I apply to enclosed Items
6. I go to "File Sharing" in the Preferences and activate SMB sharing for both users
7. I delete all previous shares
8. I add the Disk and use the proposed permissions which are admin RW, parental R, Everyone "no access"
9. I add the Temp folder and use the proposed permissions which are admin RW, parental RW, Everyone "no access" - Funny, there is a new Group called "Temp" created which has custom access on both sharepoints
10. I connect to the mac over a Windows machine (NTLM auth set appropriatly). Now I try to create a folder on the root of the Disk share, I get a denied message.

Any known issues with updating to the Windows 8.1 RTM?

The Windows 8.1 RTM is finally on MSDN. I was looking to run the update and wanted to see if anyone has upgraded and see if anyone has seen any issues with CC.

In case anybody else is using Windows 8.1 on 3200 x 1800 resolution and experiencing the same problem, I think I may have found a workaround. At least on this laptop (Dell XPS15) I can right
-click on the EDQ application in the Start Menu and choose to Run with graphics processor / High - performance (NVIDIA) processor. This appears to render the EDQ canvas with sympathetically sized fonts making the processes, and the attributes within processors, readable again.
I would be interested to hear if anybody has some Java font parameter that can be set to control the font size on Java applications, but for now the problem I had appears to be solved.

MacOS Lion 10.7.1 Still issues with Flash Player Settings windows

I have tried almost anything now, but it still doesn't work... I have a few workarounds but non really working
I'm only having this issues with my iMac not my MacBook Pro... how is that?
Using, MacOS Lion 10.7.2 with Flash Player version 11.0.1.152.
I'm still not able to invoke / click on the Flash Player Settings windows in the Browser (Safari) -- I can as described, workaround the Allow and Denied issue by using the System Preferences Flash settings… but I can not change cam setting, from Web CAM to my external Cam. !!
Is this ONLY me having these issues or ?? or wasn't the issue suppose to have been fixed in the latest version af Flash? or … is this issues only related to the Video Card within my iMac (ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB) ?
Some that someone, hopefully Adobe can help me here

This is a known issue with particular iMac machines having ATI Radeon HD cards. Currently, we found iMac 7/8 with ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro are the most common victim of this issue. We are working with both Apple and ATI to fix this problem. For now, we summarized some work arounds in below forum thread, hope it will be helpful to you!

Synchronisation issue with Lotus Notes 8 (Windows closes - no synchronisation)

Hi Everybody,
I am experiencing an issue with the replication of a Blackberry Storm (9500) with Lotus Notes 8.0.2. The Desktop Software I am running is version 4.7.0.25 on Windows XP Professional with Servicepack 3.
After configuring the synchronisation of calendar and address book, when starting the synchronisation manually, the pop-up windows, where one would expect to see the synchronisation's progress bar just closes after a splitsecond.
Although I have set the log setting within the synchronisation propertiesto the highest possible value, no log is written at all.
The Windows event logs do not show one single entry for this issue.
When trying automatic synchronisation after connecting the blackberry devicethrough usb with the laptop, the device is recognized, but still there is no synchronisation.
Has anybody experienced a similar problem before ?
Any hint is highly appreciated.

I've got no Lotus Notes Client newer than version 8.0.2.
However I did a complete uninstall of the Notes Client and the Blackberry desktop software including deleting all the files from the user's profile, cleaning up the registry,...
After reinstalling the the notes client and the Blackberry desktop software the synchronisation works when only trying to synchronize the address book. When I add the calendar to the synchronisation configuration, the synchronisation runs until the Notes client is to be contacted and the calendar entries to be processed. At this point the desktop software crashes.
In the windows application log the error message "desktopmgr.exe, version 4.7.0.25, failed modul lnsections.dll, version 7.1.1.119, error address 0x001a31fd.
The file RIM.log provides the following information:
On 12.01.2009 14:17
Synchronize Handheld calendar with Lotus Notes calendar
First System:             Handheld
Second System:            Lotus Notes
Second System File Name: Kalender
Conflict Resolution:      Notify
Appointment Range:        From 12.01.2009 To 31.12.2400

Not entries from the "second system" are written in the log-file.

Two issues with latest update for Windows

I have noticed 2 issues with the new update. When I have a file transfer I don't want, there is no longer a cancel link. Also, when saving a file transfer that I do want, it saved it to the default location and updated my preferences to always do that. It should respect the option setting to prompt me for a download location.

As long as you have a bullet in "choose a folder to save the file in every time" then it will not save files to a folder or automatically accept incoming files. The main exception to that is the initiation of a file for the first time on the newer clients. If it pops up about the new automatic saving you would click on "settings" and toggle it back to you preferred setting. The only other exception to that are images. Images sent to you via a mobile are sent to the cloud and will be cached/downloaded into your media folder. That cannot be avoided. You can cancel ongoing transfers on your end but not pending transfers.

You can then rerun through the wizard, perform an initial file transfer, reconfigure your settings and those settings should hold.

Strange issues with 1616M PCI on Windows 7

Hi,
I recently moved my production PC from XP to Win 7 64 bit and it pretty much works so far.
However, there is bit of an issues with moving between different sample rates. Not something I ever experienced in XP.
For instance, if my project uses 48 or 96 kHz I can't play any mp3 or wavs in winamp or media player unless I go to Control Panel / Sound and match the sample rate manually. Considering that different projects have different sample rates it's kinda annoying. Yet again in XP it all worked just fine. Is this a beta driver issue or another brilliant win 7 "feature"? Anyone else experienced that?

Here's a possible solution (work around) to the lag problem, that worked for me.
Open the Wacom Tablet Properties, double click on the tablet and make sure its in "Standard" mode.
Click on the Mapping Tab ->set the mapping mode to Mouse and turn off Mouse Accelerration.
I also either disabled anything that I didn't use.

Issues with Thinkpad yoga on Windows 7 64-bit

I uninstalled the windows 8.1 that came with my Thinkpad Yoga to installe windows 7 64-bit because there was no support for Power Manager ( a tool that allows you to charge your battery only upto a certain percentage (eg 40%) which helps reduce battery aging when the notebook is mostly operated on AC power).
Doing that required me to fully clean the Hard-disk during the installation process.
I installed almost all of the drivers available on http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...
for thinkpad yoga and windows 7 64 bit.
Happily, this provided me the Power manager, and I can use it just as I wanted.
However, all these has brought in additional issues which are listed below:
1. The touch pad right click doesn't work. Only two finger tap works as right click.
2. The touch pad gestures for zoom and scroll doesn't work at all.
3. The screen auto-rotate doesn't work.
4. The touch screen gesture for zoom doesn't work.
I did install the ultra-nav and screen-rotate drivers, but I get error messages regarding synaptics ... not working and also sensor driver not working during the windows startup.
Any help please?

Just when I was happy that major issues have been resolved by constant updating, I am now experiencing this frightening problem. Mostly during startup, and lately in the middle of working, the screen freezes, shows very damaged image (like TV noise), produces the most unpleasant sound through the speakers and nothing works. I need to restart and hope that it will be ok. Sometimes it requires 2 or 3 restarts, going to safe-mode and returning back to get the issue resolved.
This has happened three or 4 times within 24 hrs. I searched in the forum and for another model it was suggested that epresscache might be the cause. I disabled the service, but the problem reappeared even then.
Any help please:
