Issues with using Outer join in Data Template
Hi all,
this is my data in two tables .
Table Ronny1
colA colB
1 u
2 v
3 x
Table Ronny2
colC colD
1 q
2 r
This is my data template
<dataTemplate name="MGF" dataSourceRef="Source1">
<dataQuery>
<sqlStatement name="Q1" dataSourceRef="Source1">
<![CDATA[select C, D from Ronny2]]>
</sqlStatement>
<sqlStatement name="Q2" dataSourceRef="Source2">
<![CDATA[select A , B from lokesh1 where A = :C]]>
</sqlStatement>
</dataQuery>
<dataStructure>
<group name="G1" source="Q1">
<group name="G2" source="Q2">
<element name="A" value="A"/>
<element name="B" value="B"/>
</group>
</group>
</dataStructure>
</dataTemplate>
Now this would give me result as
A B
1 u
2 v
however my requirement is this
A B
1 u
2 v
3 x
that is, i want to display all the rows of table Ronny1 and matching rows from table Ronny2. I tried modifiying my second sql as
<![CDATA[select A , B from lokesh1 where A = :C (+)]]> ( using a outer join)
but this does give me correct data and comes back with the cartesion product.
Can anyone please answer this for me that how can we use the outer join in data templaes.
Thanks
Ronny
hey vetsrini,
sorry for the confusion here,
actually i want to display all the rows from table Ronny1 and i am also pulling in the matching rows from table Ronny2 and my data structure looks as ( pulling in column D from table Ronny2)
<dataStructure>
<group name="G1" source="Q1">
<group name="G2" source="Q2">
<element name="A" value="A"/>
<element name="B" value="B"/>
<element name="D" value="D"/>
</group>
</group>
</dataStructure>
and this is what i want the output to be
A B D
1 u q
2 v r
3 x
Hence the row where A <> C the data in the D column will be null, same as in the case of outer join.
any suggestions
Thx
Ronny

Performance issue with using out parameter sys_refcursor
Hello,
I'm using Oracle 10g, with ODP.Net in a C# application.
I'm using about 10 stored procedures, each having one out parameter of sys_refcursor type. when I use one function in C# and call these 10 sp's, it takes about 78ms to excute the function.
Now to improve the performance, I created one SP with 10 output parameters of sys_refcursor type. and i just call this one sp. the time taken has increased , not it takes abt 95ms.
is this the right approach or how can we improve the performance by using sys_refcursor.
please suggest, it is urgent, i'm stuck up with this issue.
thanks
shrutiWith 78ms and 95ms are you talking about milliseconds or minutes? If it's milliseconds then what's the problem and does it really matter if there is a difference of 17 milliseconds as that could just be caused by network traffic or something. If you're talking minutes, then we would need more information about what you are attempting to do, what tables and processing is going on, what indexes you have etc.
Query optimisation tips can be found on this thread.. When your query takes too long ....
Without more information we can't really tell what's happening. -
Sample code and senarios to use outer join?
We know the ABAP4 syntax for inner join, but never tried outer join and we even don't know if there is any outer join syntax in ABAP4 or not. Would be very appreciated if some ABAP expert here let us know if there is any outer join and list the difference between inner join and outer join with detailed senarios or when we would use outer join or when to use inner join? Also give a sample code on the outer join if there is any in ABAP?
Thanks and we will give you reward points!Hye..

Update Statement with left outer join
hi,
i have to update a column in table "a" from table "b" and both of them joined with left outer join
How can I do this
Thanks in AdvancePlease consider the following when you post a question. This would help us help you better
1. New features keep coming in every oracle version so please provide Your Oracle DB Version to get the best possible answer.
You can use the following query and do a copy past of the output.
select * from v$version 2. This forum has a very good Search Feature. Please use that before posting your question. Because for most of the questions
that are asked the answer is already there.
3. We dont know your DB structure or How your Data is. So you need to let us know. The best way would be to give some sample data like this.
I have the following table called sales
with sales
as
select 1 sales_id, 1 prod_id, 1001 inv_num, 120 qty from dual
union all
select 2 sales_id, 1 prod_id, 1002 inv_num, 25 qty from dual
select *
from sales 4. Rather than telling what you want in words its more easier when you give your expected output.
For example in the above sales table, I want to know the total quantity and number of invoice for each product.
The output should look like this
Prod_id sum_qty count_inv
1 145 2 5. When ever you get an error message post the entire error message. With the Error Number, The message and the Line number.
6. Next thing is a very important thing to remember. Please post only well formatted code. Unformatted code is very hard to read.
Your code format gets lost when you post it in the Oracle Forum. So in order to preserve it you need to
use the {noformat}{noformat} tags.
The usage of the tag is like this.
<place your code here>\
7. If you are posting a *Performance Related Question*. Please read
{thread:id=501834} and {thread:id=863295}.
Following those guide will be very helpful.
8. Please keep in mind that this is a public forum. Here No question is URGENT.
So use of words like *URGENT* or *ASAP* (As Soon As Possible) are considered to be rude. -

Thanks in advance.Hi,
If you want all the rows from goh, then you don't want any conditions like goh.OFFER_NO <> 0.
Make all the joins to goh outer joins, and make all conditions that apply to any tables joined to goh (or to tables joined to them) part of the join condition, like this:
FROM APPS_JP.GEDIS_OFFER_HEADER goh
LEFT OUTER JOIN APPS_JP.GEDIS_ORDER_BUILDS gob ON gob.OFFER_NO = goh.OFFER_NO
AND gob.BUILD_NO = 1
LEFT OUTER JOIN APPS_JP.GEDIS_ORDER_LINES gol ON gol.OFFER_NO = goh.OFFER_NO
AND gol.BUILD_NO = 1
AND gol.LINE_NO = 1
LEFT OUTER JOIN APPS_JP.GEDIS_OFFER_RELATED_CUSTOMER
gorc ...
I hope this answers your question.
If not, post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, relevant columns only) for all the tables involved, and the results you want from that data.
Simplify the problem as much as possible. For example, do you really need all those tables to show what the problem is? Of course, you need them in tyour real query, but if you understand a solution that only involves 4 or 5 tables, you'll know how to apply it to any number of tables.
Explain, using specific examples, how you get those results from that data.Always say what version of Oracle you're using (e.g. 11.2.0.2.0).

Help Required with an OUTER JOIN Query
Hi,
I need a list of records carrying UserID and ALL SectionIDs and SectionTitles he/she is associated
with so I created following query:
SELECT UsersSections.UserID, Sections.SectionID, Sections.SectionTitle
FROM UsersSections, Sections
WHERE UsersSections.SectionID(+) = Sections.SectionID AND UsersSections.UserID = 1
Where my tables are:
- UsersSections (UserID, SectionID)
- Sections (SectionID, SectionTitle)
The problem is that if I exclude WHERE UserID = '1' clause the query return the desired result i.e. ALL Sections
And ALL Users associated with the any Section(s). But I need results for a particular UserID but
Including WHERE UserID = '1' clause only return records for that User only not the sections he/she belongs to which was the purpose of using OUTER JOIN.
Any help will be highly appreciated.
Thanks.

Granting SELECT to user on VIEW with FULL OUTER JOIN fails?
I have a quandary.
Using Oracle 9i, I have created a simple view. When I perform a count on it, rows are returned.
However, when I grant SELECT access to another user, they can't see the VIEW. The VIEW has a FULL OUTER JOIN operation in it.
When I do the same thing using a regular join, it works.
Any ideas why, please?

According to Note:244315.1, it is not possible to make a FULL OUTER JOIN on views owned by another user at the 9i version of Oracle. As above, do not use FULL OUTER JOIN on views owned by another user. Try to use outer join operator (+), and/or UNIONS instead.

Performance issue with using buffering in a APPL0 or APPL1 Table
Hi,
Can anyone please tell me whether there's any serious performace issue with using buffering for a Master or Transaction table? I'm asking this because when I run code inspector for my transp table I'm getting information message:
Message Code 0011 ==> Buffereing is Activated but Delivery Class Is "A" and Message Code 0014 ==> Buffereing is Activated but Data Class Is "APPL1".
So what's other way round for improving performance.
Thanks,
Mahesh M.S.Hi,
have you read the documentation?
Let me paste it here for you:
Buffering is switched on for the examined table and it has data type 'APPL0' or 'APPL1'.
Tables with data type 'APPL0' or 'APPL1' should contain master or transaction data, so these tables should either contain a large amount of data or their content should change frequently. Therefore buffering the table is unfavourable. Very large tables suppress other tables in the buffer memory and hence slow done any access to them. Transaction data should not be buffered because the synchronization of the changes on the various application servers is very time consuming.
In exceptional cases, small master data tables ('APPL0', size category 0) can be buffered.
The solution depends on the table content. If it is master or transaction data, the table should not be buffered. If the table content does not consist of master or transaction data, the data type should be corrected accordingly.
This should answer your questions...
Kind regards,
Hermann -
Hi Guys,
I have some data in lookup tables and in the main tables the foreign keys are nullable. For this I have to use outer join query. But as it matters on performance because I am using 100's of tables like this and its making the query really slow. Is there any other way to get rid of outer join and get the same result??
Thanks in advance.
Ghulam Mustafa ButtFirst, why "avoid outer joins at all costs"? If you need the functionality of an outer join, using an outer join is the best option.
Second, I don't see where 161992's code does anything other than an inner join in a slighly more convoluted form.

How to have a condition with the outer join
Hi, I'd like to know if, inside a report, there's a way to create a condition which include in some way an outer join.
So, I have 2 custom folders:
Tickets with 2 fields: Ticket_id, Inventory_item_id, category_id and iptv_sumptom
Hierarchy with 4 fields: Symptom, Inv_item_id, Category_id and Group
These 2 folders are joined in this way
Tickets.inventory_item_id = Hierarchy.inv_item_id (+) AND Tickets.category_id = Hierarchy.category_id (+) AND Tickets.iptv_sumptom = Hierarchy.Symptom (+)
Now, from the report I have a parameter based on the field Group to restrict dataset of the tickets.
...but when I choose a group and I run the report, the conditions inside the plsql query generated is like this
WHERE (Tickets.inventory_item_id = Hierarchy.inv_item_id (+) AND Tickets.category_id = Hierarchy.category_id (+) AND Tickets.iptv_sumptom = Hierarchy.Symptom (+)) AND Hierarchy.Group = 'A'
where the last condition is WITHOUT outer join !
I need to have also the outer join on the Hierarchy.Group: AND Hierarchy.Group (+) = 'A', but from the Administrator I don't want to add another join with (+) for the Group. From Plus I didn't find any way to write (+).....
Anybody knows another method or workaround to have also a filter (the condition Hierarchy.Group = 'A') with an outer join ?
Thanks in advance
AlexHi,
A workaround can be either use new objects or modify the existing ones to avoid the outer join.
In order to do that you can add a dummy record to each custom folder and then join by it.
For example if you will add to the
Tickets will be:
select Ticket_id, Inventory_item_id, category_id, iptv_sumptom
from......
union all
select -1,-1,-1,'Some value' from dual
And hierarchy will be:
select Symptom, Inv_item_id, Category_id ,Group
from......
union all
select 'Some value',-1,-1,'Some value' from dual
Now you can create a full join between them without the need to outer join.
Hope it will help

SQL for View Definition using outer join
Hello everyone,
I am creating a view using the statement below
SELECT *
FROM table_a A
,table_b B
,table_c C
WHERE A.sg_code = B.sg_code and
B.st_code = 'E' and
A.sg_code = C.sg_code(+) and
C.st_code = 'T'
The structure of the view is as follows
View
sg_code| Name | start_date | end_date |
1 | Test |13-03-2008 | NULL |
Table_a
sg_code,Name
Table_b
sg_code,st_code,actual_date
the view can have a null for the column 'end_date'
This means there will not be a record inserted in the Table_b for end_date=null, there will only be a record for actual_date=start_date
In this scenario when I query the view I am not seeing the newly created record just because there is a condition "C.st_code = 'T'" with the outer join on the sg_code.
When I look into the individual tables I see the records.
Table A
Pg_code,Name
1 Test
Table B
Id pg_code As_of_date
1 1 13-03-2008
How should I modify my view definition so that I can query the view even if there is a null for 'end_date'
Thanks
fmthe last line should be:
C.st_code(+) = 'T'
by failing to include the (+) on that line, you made it NOT an outer join. an outer joined table must be outer joined on every where criteria, including to constants. -
Any issues with using LDAP on LINUX for GRC 5.2 UME?
Our company is converting our LDAP servers from AIX to LINUX. The DNS name used in our UME connection should not change. Are there any issues with using LDAP on LINUX? We are currently on GRC 5.2 SP9 (in the middle of upgrading to SP12).
Also, I have been trying to connect our test UME system to a test LDAP box that has already been converted to LINUX but keep getting a 'connection failed' error when I try to test it.
Do you have to reboot the server to test changing the LDAP connections? I've been trying it by going into UME, pulling up the LDAP tab, hitting the Modify button, entering the new userid and password for test LDAP, and hitting the Test Connection button. I've verified that this userid and password is correct for test LDAP.
Is there a way to get more information about why the connection failed?
Thanks.I've been told by our LDAP Support group that none of the other configuration settings should have to be changed. I should only have to change the id and password to connect to a test version of LDAP instead of our regular connection to the production LDAP.
Can you test a connection for a different userid/password without having to reboot/restart the server? Do I need to change these two settings, save then, reboot/restart, and then do the Test Connection button?
Thanks. -
Issues with using relative links in Captivate 8
Is anyone else having issues with using relative links in Captivate 8? These links all used to work in the previous version of Captivate. And I could have sworn this was fixed already once in Captivate 8 but it's popping up again for us. Here is the situation... We have courses that are made up of multiple lessons which as separate Captivate files. Within those lessons are buttons to link to external documents (which live in a shared document folder), demonstrations, etc. We use relative links because we post these to our amazon servers and we also sell them to clients where they can post them on their own web servers or in their LMS. SO we can't put in full paths for the links or we'd have to change them constantly. So an example is that the link for a button might be "../Document/nameofdoc.pdf" This would be going to a user guide or something that is posted in the "Document" folder that lives at the same level as the lesson's folder. But now, all of the sudden, none of our bazillion links is working. And I've tried buttons, hyperlinks, and even the old click box. Nothing works with relative links. And I did check the permissions on every file and folder on our Amazon server to verify nothing changed there as well. Any suggestions?
I have the same issue with relative links using Captivate 8. I am trying to load Captivate modules into an LMS using relative links to document files within the LMS. The links work fine during a site page test so not an issue in the LMS, but from the Captivate module they aren't working....

HR ABAP: Issue with using 'nocommit' parameter on FM HR_INFOTYPE_OPERATION
Issue with using nocommit parameter on FM HR_INFOTYPE_OPERATION:

I tried to use the nocommit parameter on FM HR_INFOTYPE_OPERATION to insert the 4 infotypes

'Commit Work', but to my surprise only I/T 0015 is created in the database and the first three (9045, 0045 and 0078) did not make it to database.
I searched many threads on SDN but could not find a solution.
Please let me know if there could be any solution to implement the LUW.

call FM for all Infotypes and collect all error msgs if any , then finally call FM for all infotypes again without passing nocommit work ( i.e space).
regards
prabhu
