Issues with W10 upgrade on tablets (Switch 10 and W3) not having enough space on unit for upgrade.

Link:   http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-windows_install/how-to-upgrade-tablets-and-devices-with-little/8010e04b-530e-4d57-aaf4-776be87af7df?auth=1  Tablets and other devices with little hard drive space can be upgraded to Windows 10.   We want to give everyone a great upgrade experience, so we are rolling out downloads in an organized way to manage the high demand.  As part of this rollout, if you purchased a new Windows 8.1 device with 32 GB or less of hard drive space, these devices will not see an upgrade notification until at least August 4th. If you don’t want to wait until then, you can choose to upgrade to Windows 10 using installation media from the Windows 10 media creation tool.  Once you are notified your download is ready, or begin installing Windows 10 from media, setup will first perform a compatibility check to see if you have enough disk space.  If you don’t, you’ll see the message, “Windows needs more space”, informing you how much space you need to have available and providing several options for installing Windows.  The fastest method is to free up the specified amount of disk space on the hard drive, either manually and/or by using Disk Cleanup.  Allow yourself a little extra space beyond what is specified so that required updates can install during setup.   If your device allows it, you will also have the option to install Windows by using an external drive.  We recommend using a USB drive for this option.  Keep in mind that laptops and tablets must be plugged into a power source during the upgrade.  If you only have one Micro-USB port, which you need to power the device, then you won’t be able to use USB storage, but you may use an SD card for this option on most systems. Some important points to remember if you choose to use an external storage drive for installing Windows 10:We recommend that the external drive is formatted in NTFS.  Drives that are formatted in FAT32 may run into errors due to FAT32 file size limitations.  To learn how to format in NTFS, click here.USB drives are preferred over SD cards because drivers for SD cards are not migrated if the device does not support Connected Standby. If you chose not to use an external drive, you may notice that you have very little free space after upgrading.  This is because your previous version of Windows is still on your hard disk.  If you do nothing, the old version of Windows will be deleted automatically in a month to free up the extra space.  You may choose not to wait and recover this space immediately, but if you do, you will not be able to use the “Go Back” feature to uninstall Windows 10 and return to your previous version.  To free up this additional space immediately: Open Settings, and then select System and then Storage.Select your system drive (normally the C: drive).Select Temporary files.Under Previous version of Windows, select Delete previous versions.

Coqui13,
Thanks for the post, we did create an article on our FAQ site about this as well. Not quite as much information as posted, but it's out there for everyone.

    Hi Guys
I have an issue please help on that earliest.
When am trying to install Windows server 2008 OS. Error msg was coming 0x80070070:"not having enough space for installation"..Even though i have 20GB space?..Pls resolve this issue immediately.
    Regards,
    Shiv

Is this a clean install or an upgrade?  20 GB, though greater than the minimum, is pretty minimal.  How much memory do you have on the system?  2008 would try to create a page file of 1.5x physical memory, so if you are building on a large
memory system, you could be having an issue there.

  • I have a computer with a "partitioned" hard drive.  The "C" does not have enough space to backup and upgrade my iPhone 4.  How can I backup to my "E" drive instead of my "C"?

I have a computer with a Partitioned hard drive... the "C" drive, where everything defaults, is almost full and will not allow me to back up and update my iphone 4... can you tell me how to back up to my "E" drive?

Format the HDD in Disk Utility>Erase to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and the open System Preferences>Time Machine and set up the external disk as the Time Machine HDD.  Then look at the Options, and exclude what you do not want backed up.
    Ciao.

Also, my other tablet - Samsung TabS - has same issue - calendar wont sync. My IPhone and my desktop (windows) synch just fine.
Google calendar syncs on all devices. Totally stumped. Ideas anyone?
    THANKS

    1.      Log onto Outlook Web Access
    2.      Top right hand part of the screen select "Options"
    3.     Select "See All Options"
    4.      Select "Phone" menu
Check if you have 10 Devices registered.
If you have, you need to delete one of them to add your new Smart Phone to Exchange for synching
Check the "Last Sync Time" to indicate if this device is still active or not.

Greyed imaged in the Import dialog box mean you have already imported the photos into Lightroom, so there is no need and no benefit to importing them a second time.
Just go to the Library module, search for the desired photos, and resume working on these photos.

  • TS1702 I'm not able to update Smurf's Village. Tried most of the things proposed on the net including restarting the iPad and trying syncing with the computer. Had a similar issue with another application. Had to delete and reinstall it, with all history

I'm not able to update Smurf's Village. Tried most of the things proposed on the net including restarting the iPad and trying syncing with the computer. Had a similar issue with another application. Had to delete and reinstall it, with all history lost.
Tried following up with the developer's instruction. Didn't help. Developer suggested contacting Apple if their instruction didn't work. Tried the various methods recommended on the Apple site. Same result.

Telling is that you tried most of the things on the net doesn't tell us exactly what you did try, so we are all still left to guess .....
Sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in and then try to update again
If that doesnt work - go to Settings>General>Date and Time - set the date ahead by a few months. Try to update again. If you get an error message of any kind - go back and change the date and time to automatic again. Then try again.
If that doesn't work, restart your router and reboot the iPad.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

Warranty and support is only valid in the country of origin.  The only exception being the EU where a device bought in any EU country can get warranty or service in any EU country.
Warranty is determined by device (serial number), no documentation required.
Apple does not repair devices, they replace them.  For that reason, ensure the device is backed up and any pictures take with the device are copied off the device prior to going in for service.

I'm not sure what you mean by the times get switched around, but you migh check on both mac and device in the Time & Date section of preferences/settings to be sure they are both in the same time zone.

I have a 500GB external hard drive and only 120GB Macbook. It worked fine before the latest Maverick's update. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My guess would be it has created an entirely new backup of your drive when you upgraded to Mavericks.

  • I'm getting this error with bootcamp "The startup disk does not have enough space to be partitioned"

    Here's the story...
I had a dual boot configuration on my mac with Mac OS X Lion and Windows XP (made with bootcamp).
    I decided to reinstall windows.
I deleted the windows partition using BootCamp.
Tried to recreate the Windows partition with Boot Camp and got: "The startup disk does not have enough space to be partitioned  You must have at least 10 GB of free space available"
After reading several posts on this forum I decided to defrag the hard drive and try again.
The defrag did not work and I'm still getting the error, I have 22 gb of free space on my drive.
    Any suggestions?
Also, I tried repair disk and repair permissions
Hmm, my external harddrive says on the box "OS X 10.5.8 or higher (32-bit kernel only)"  Could the 32-bit requirement be an issue? Is lion 64-bit?

Boot Camp must be able to allocate a contiguous block of space on the drive. If it cannot find 10 GBs of contiguous space, then you cannot create the Windows partition.
You will have to backup your OS X partition to an external drive, boot from the external drive, use Disk Utility to repartition and reformat your hard drive back to a single volume, then restore your backup to the internal hard drive.
Get an empty external hard drive and clone your internal drive to the external one.
Boot from the external hard drive.
    Erase the internal hard drive.
Restore the external clone to the internal hard drive.
Clone the internal drive to the external drive
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager appears.  Select the icon for the external drive and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    After startup do the following:
    Erase internal hard drive
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your internal hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.  Do not quit Disk Utility.
Restore the clone to the internal hard drive
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the internal hard drive. Source means the external startup drive.
Note that the Source and Destination drives are swapped for this last procedure.

  • Problem with Java Memory "Could not reserve enough space for object heap"

    Hi gurus,
I am not an expert with Java´s configuration, and I have a situation that I don´t understand. First of all, I am working at Centos 6.2 with jdk_1.6 and Tomcat 7.
    The problem is...
    - If I run Tomcat with JAVA_OPTS="-Xmx128m"* (at catalina.sh) all works fine.
    - If I run Tomcat with JAVA_OPTS="-Xmx512m"* (at catalina.sh) an error appears:
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for object heap
Could not create the Java virtual machine.
This appear when I run java -version or when I try to stop Tomcat, and the Tomcat isn´t able to stop.
The strange thing is that my server has more than 200M free in physical memory. So, why Tomcat isn´t able to stop? and Why Java doesn´t use the free memory in my server?
    Thanks in advanced.

Hello EJP, thanks for your answer.
    I have explained bad.
The server has 703M free when Tomcat is stopped. I had mentioned that my server has more than 200M free in physical memory when Tomcat is running with JAVA_OPTS="-Xmx512m", so I don´t understand why these errors appear.
    Do you understand me?
Recently I have checked the swap memory, and it is disabled. In spite of swap memory is disabled I think java wouldn´t need this memory because it has free physical memory
    Thanks again.
