Issues with Wikipedia website on Safari

Hi,
I've had a couple issues with using Wikipedia on Safari.  The longest one I've been having is when after searching for and/or going to an article page using the search box on the Wikipedia website at the top right.  After entering a search and/or going to an article page, if I use the Cmd + [ keys to go back (or Cmd + ←) to the previous page relatively soon afterwards (immediately or say just a couple minutes later), after I release the Cmd and [ keys, the vast majority of the time Safari will behave as if I had pressed Enter in the search box on the previous Wikipedia page, loading the search page for Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?search=&title=Special%3ASearch).  Sometimes it will enter in what I had searched for on that page and then behave as if I'm searching for that page again and enter and return the results of that search again.  This replaces any pages from the history navigation beyond that point, which can be annoying some if I have a couple of pages that I had gone to beyond that page.  And sometimes, it doesn't do this re-searching, it'll just behave normally like it should and used to and just go back to the previous page, which is all I want it to do.  Like I said, the vast majority of the time it doesn't do this.
It only does the "re-search" after I let go of the Cmd key.  If I keep holding it down, Safari will do the re-searching thing only once I let go of the Cmd key.  If, while still holding down the Cmd key and after I have navigated back to a page where I used the search box recently and then I press another key, such as the Shift, Option, or the other Cmd key (all while still holding down the first Cmd key...) if won't do any of what I'm talking about and behave normally.  This happens only on Safari as far as I know.  I think this started happening with my (2007 I think...) white MacBook when I upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion and to Safari 6.0, and this problem carried on on my Mid 2012 MacBook Pro, even with any OS or Safari updates.
I'm also unable to play any audio files with the player on Wikipedia pages.  I tried downloading the plugins they talk about on their media help page (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Media_help_(Ogg)) but nothing has worked so far.  When I press to play an audio (Ogg?) file, it'll play no audio and the elapse time will just loop over and over the first :03 seconds, but again with no audio playing.
The most recent one is when I think after the more recent updates for Safari 6.0 in the last couple of months.  In Wikipedia, they have numbered reference footnotes, and when you put your mouse cursor over the number it would show a box over the number showing you reference information for that footnote.  Usually the reference is a website with a clickable link to the source reference.  Even if it's not a website link, it would show the box right above the footnote number showing you the reference information, which was a really neat and useful tool on Wikipedia.  Now, if they are footnotes close to the top of the page, they appear basically right above the footnote number, basically like how it should and used to be.  But as I move further and further down the page, the footnotes will appear further and further above the footnote number.  The article page doesn't have to be that long until the footnote reference starts not even show on the same page.  It is so far away, that it is above the webpage view and cannot be seen at all.  If there are any links for the footnote, I have to quickly move my mouse cursor over to the little popup reference before it disappears.  It disappears automatically as you move your cursor away from the footnote number.
These aren't huge issues I know, just kind of annoying and a little inconvenient to me.  I use Wikipedia all the time for general info, so can be a bother to me sometimes.  Has anyone else had any similiar issues to these and is there anything I can do about them?  Or are these just bugs I'll have to live for now?  I'm guessing people will tell me to upgrade to OS X Mavericks.  That might hopefully work, but anyone know of issues like these and solving them if it doesn't?  Thanks for any help.

The workaround for the moment is to go into about:config and set the html5.enable boolean from true to false.

Is this a Safari issue or a Dice issue, or both?

    My post
The font size is WAY WAY too small, and I have had some other issues as well. One of which is when I close the browser window and come back to a thread and hit the reply button, I am taken to some search screen, and have to completely log out and log back in before I can reply. Its very annoying and needs to be done everytime I reply to a post. I have deleted all my cookies, cleared my cache, etc.. I am thinking its a issue with how this website talks with safari but I could be wrong. I could ISOLATE the problem by creating or logging into another Mac account I setup for testing problems, but I am too lazy to do so, as I am thinking this is a Dice + Safari issue because I never had the problems when I used FireFox full time.

I bet a donut that the problems I am experiencing have nothing to do with logging in as a admin. I bet its a Dice + Safari issue.

  • Issue with viewing website in internet explorer

Hello.  I created a website in dreamweaver using rollover images for the links.  When I load the webpage in the firefox, google, or opera browsers it loads fine, however when I load it in internet explorer I get an "allow activex" message.  When I tried to view it on my tablet in google it loaded fine, but when I tried to load it in my tablet using internet explorer it didn't show any links at all and than it crashed the browser.  What can cause this and how can I fix it?  is there a better way to create rollover images that I'm not aware of?  I tried to use CSS code in the stylesheet to make rollover images, but couldn't figure out how to do that.
    Thanks,
    Mike Irvan

Any server you have access to would work fine, you just upload to a temporary folder, like TEST, then delete it after the problem is found.
However, if you're not online yet, and having issue with IE, it's very likely you just need to drop IE's security settings to allow it to display local file attachments correctly (yeah, don't ask, it's a Microsoft thing).
Go into IE and choose Tools > Internet Options > Security and drop the scrubber bar down a notch or two, restart and try again.
When the site is uploaded to an actual server, that error won't come up because all files are coming from the same remote source (Microsoft, it doesn't have to make sense®)
You can do a search online to get more info on customizing the settings manually, somehting like this page will come up if you search allow blocked local files: IE 10 is blocking javascript on local html files - Microsoft Community

  • 3 Specific Issues With 10.7 Lion (Safari, iCal, Mail)

I have 3 specific issues with Lion that I seem unable to fix. Note that these issues did not exist before my upgrade to Lion.
    1. Safari 5.1.5 & "White Screen":
If I open more than 3 or 4 Safari windows at a time, suddenly the winsows switch to "white screen", and try and reload (even windows that are sitting on the dock). About 50% of the time, they don't reload and I am stuck with white screens. So I have to quit Safari and then re-open.
Safari then tries to reload the pages all at once (which slows down my MacBook). I have de-slected "Restore Windows" in System Prefs/General, but Safari tries to do so anyway.
    2. Mail 5.2 & having to delete e-mails twice:
When I delete an e-mail sent to my .Me address, it deletes and then comes back again (when I switch to a different mail box). Then I have to delete it a second time. This onl;y happens with the .Me e-mails. I have tried deleteing that account and then setting it up again, but the same thing happends evey time.
    3. iCal 5.0.2:
When I launch iCal either manually or automatically (on start-up), it takes a good 60 seconds to actually open (lots of bouncing around on the dock & that's about it), even though I have "Restore Windows" de-selected in System Prefs/General.
Any help in solving these issues would be greatly appreciated, especially as they effecty the 3 applications I use the most and therefore effect my MacBook's performance greatly.

    Solved!
    A Workaround:
Get the Webkit Nightly Build , download and add to your App Folder, make it the Default browser, follow the instructions to show your homepage, after this you almost done, than download
RCDefaultApp, open System Preferences launch RCDefaultApp, go under Apps, search for Webkit and mark all all associations, Safari is no more dfeault for something, after this, go to Extensions Pane and search for the safariextz Extension, now set it to Webkit as well, now you are most up to date and Webkit updates more often than Safari ever did ^^
    Enjoy

  • Issue with bodog website

I have a verizon 8330 curve and my verison is 4.5.0.175. I'm having an issue with https://sports.bodog.com/. I can log in and get all the way to where I click on "Review My Bet." I click the button and it goes nowhere. It acts like I haven't clicked on anything. Could this be a setting? Has anyone else expierenced this

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Websites can be coded to perform better with some browsers rather than others. The BB Browser can appear to websites as several different things...that setting is, from within the Browser App, ( > Options > Browser Configuration > Browser Identification). Changing that to another browser might help your BB interact better with some websites. In combination with all of the other configuration settings, you need to find the combination of all of these settings that works best for the sites you are visiting. Sadly, there is no "best advice" to give as each persons needs are different. But, I typically find that changing the Browser Identification often helps -- most often by changing to FF or IE (if those are available to you...the options vary by carrier).
    Good luck!

  • Issue with Google search on Safari

Hello: I am having the same issue with my iPad and iPhone 6. I think it may be related to iOS 8. when I was running iOS 7 whenever I would search for something in the Google search bar with and Safari the search bar would start to get suggestions what I may be searching for. For example if I would type in IT it would suggest that I was searching for the word Italy. Ever since I up dated to iOS 8 the suggest feature no longer works. I was wondering if this is an Apple issue and they will resolve it in a future iOS update or is there a problem with my settings. FYI in my Safari settings the default search is set to Google.
    Thank you.

I have been having this same issue since the upgrade, and I cannot seem to fix it. I have restored, but iTunes won't let me revert back to pre 8.0/2.
Have not found any kind of resolution to this problem, and it doesn't seem to be a wide issue, as this is the only post I have seen on it.
    Really annoying.

  • Hello...after upgrading to firefox 6 i'm having issues with some websites and would like to go back to firefox 5. can i do this and if so how? thanks

ever since firefox updated to version six i am having some issues with games on facebook and also loading several sites. i'm getting a lot of time outs. i would like to go back to firefox 5. please advise

Sorry, Swanarva, It didn't work as it was supposed to. I downloaded, saved file, clicked the download to open, clicked 'run' then got an error message that it couldn't find the file(!) . No idea what happened or why. Should I have uninstalled Firefox first, then downloaded Firefox 8 using another browser or downloaded, uninstalled Firefox 09 beta then tried installing Firefox 8?
At this rate, IE is looking good, despite its shortcomings.

  • Issue with Siteground "Website Wizard" estore & PayPal Screen

We currently run a non-proft musical group (community orchestra) website on Siteground. We use the "Website Wizard" function, which lets you create and edit a website easily with canned pages using any web browser. No need to use Joomla, etc. As an option, you can use an ecommerce service such a PayPal with the "estore" page within the Wizard.
For some reason, the PayPal screen which ties to our PayPal account does not come up when our audience members use Safari to try to buy concert tickets, but the other mainstream browsers work OK (Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome for instance) with a PC or Android device.
Using my iPad, I downloaded many other browsers such as Firefox and Chrome (and others), but even they won't work on it. It is as if Safari still does certain web browser functions. The upshot is that none of our audience can use iPads, iPhones, or Macs to buy concert tickets. I am guessing that a Mac would work with another browser, but I haven't been able to test that.
Siteground tech support recently told me that the Website Wizard function will not be updated to fix the issue, so I am wondering if Safari itself can be tweaked to allow the PayPal page to come up when it is supposed to? Since the Wizard does everything for us it is all "backend" with no coding on our part. We simply select PayPal as an option for the estore and put in the PayPal account name and it does the rest - most of the time.
I am willing to work with the Safari developers to resolve the issue. We'd like to be able to keep the current Siteground account and Website Wizard setup for ease of editing our site (anyone can do it), and we'd also like our audience to be able to use their slick Apple devices to easily order concert tickets. Thanks in advance.

I can have a look at doing a direct link, but the Siteground "Website Wizard" estore function can be used to gather delivery information such as "Will Call" or sending the purchased tickets via US Mail. The estore function also sends a nice confirmation email to the audience member. Maybe PayPal would have a similar option for users with a simple direct link, so I need to look into that I guess.

  • Various problems with google websites in safari

    hi,
I have the latest mbp 13" with retina display and mavericks osx. I have been using safari, but I am having strange issues when using google sites (perhaps the problem also extends to other websites which I haven't noticed).
    For example:
In all google services e.g. search, drive, gmail, you get a bar at the top with your google account. Now I should be able to logout from here or access another Google service by pressing the icon with squares but they are unresponsive. No dropdown appears.
Another problem is when I am using google search, I often want to limit results to 'discussions'. Normally I would be able to do 'more' -> 'discussions' but when i press 'more' the only options I get are news, books, flights and applications.
Other than that safari seems quite normal.
Has anyone experienced similar issues? How can they be resolved?
    thanks,

Safari recently went stupid when it interacts with Google (search, ads, etc).
Also, suddenly can’t access URLs it had no trouble with before.
Often can’t follow links from news aggregators to original sources (like Reuters).
ANYTIME this happens, Chrome has no problem with the same access issues.

  • Pdf issue with internal links in Safari

    Hello,
I am creating a web site that has 80 or so pdf's available to download. They each contain a series of 20 or so speeches. To make navigation easier I have created a new page in Open Office that is an index to each pdf, with it's page number as an internal link to the correct page. This is what I did:
    1. Open each pdf in Preview and inserted a blank page (page 2), and saved the pdf. This gives me the correct page numbering for when I put in the real index.
    2. Noting the start of each speech  page number, I created an idex page in Open Office.
    3. I saved the index as a pdf.
    4. I opened the origional pdf and the new pdf index.
    5. I deleted the blank page and then dragged the new index page across and made sure it was the same page position - page 2.
    6. I then used the link too in Previewl to drag a link box over the page number in the index and then chose the correct page number to set as the target via Previews inspector.
    7. Saved the pdf and opened and tested - everything worked fine.
The problem comes when I upload the pdfs and test the site with safari. When I open the pdf in the default safari window, the links are all out by one page i.e. if i click on page number 30 from the index, I go to the next page - page 31. If I hover the mouse at the bottom of the page and bring up the open in Preview icon and do so, the index links to the pages work fine???? I have tried with Explorer under bootcamp and the default window that opens for the pdf shows the same issue - it's out by one page.
    Thanks in advance
    nige.

    Hi...
    Try this...
    Go to   /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Move the Adobe PDF Browser plugin (or just PDF Browser plugin) to the Trash.
See if that makes a difference.

  • Issues with a website created with Iweb

I'm hoping someone out there can help...
The site appears okay when viewed on a computer screen but...
The main problem that I'm having at the moment is with printing site content. When opened in Firefox, only the first page of content will show up in print preview, and print out. When opened in IE, all of the content pages show up in print preview but many of them are blank and print blank. Usually, the first page is okay, with the exception of the home page itself, where only the top menu shows up. In Safari, everything seems to be okay except for page breaks which sometimes go right through text or a picture.
Another problem I have is that the website pictures don't look too good when printed out. The colors are off a bit and the quality is not quite there. I've tested it on a few good printers. I had better appearance when I did this website previously with a cheap web editor.
Any good suggestions on why this is happening and what I can do to fix this?

If you have a page or pages that require to be printed out it is more sensible to offer this as a PDF download. That way you can make the layout of the PDF to suit a printed page.

  • Issues with BBC website video + Audio

I've been having issues using the video and audio content on the BBC website for a few months, it's started to get really annoying so I thought I would ask and see if anyone has a solution.
First I have uninstalled and reinstalled Flash, repaired permissions, updated Safari, Firefox, Chrome, repaired permissions, deleted prefs, basically done everything from a system point that I can think of.
I'm still having a problem of the video and audio locking up the browser and taking AGES to actually display. I've done a video for it to show what I mean:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzFw3qqKADc&hd=1
The first part where I view the video story is actually not 'too' bad, still on the slow side but that's rare, keep watching and you'll see how slow it is!
It's very annoying because not only does it take ages to load, the browser just totally locks up, so there's not much chance of doing anything else, it's just slows right down. This actually happens in any browser I try. (I think in the video it was Firefox but that's just because of what I was using at the time, same goes for Safari)
I created a new user account and it's actually fine in that so there must be a conflict somewhere in my system, I'm just not sure how to resolve it.
    Any solutions or thoughts?

It seems to take too long to buffer. How much free space do you have on your hard drive?
Do you have any third-party add-ons or enhancers installed?
    As for general browser slowness:
If Safari is getting very slow:
Adding Open DNS codes to your Network Preferences, should give good results in terms of speed-up as well as added security:
If you are using a single computer: Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS)
Sometimes reversing the order of the DNS numbers can be beneficial in cases where there is a long delay before web pages start to load, and then suddenly load at normal speed:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2296
If your computer is part of a network: please refer to this page: http://www.opendns.com/start/bestpractices/#yournetwork and follow the advice given.
You could also try these codes as well: 4.2.2.1 & 4.2.2.2
If you use a Router, make sure it has the latest firmware installed.
One reason for a slowness in page loading may be the 'DNS Pre-fetching' feature of Safari 5.x
    This is described here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3408?viewlocale=en_US
If Safari seems to hang for ages:
If you have a lot of tabs open and/or a lot of pages running Flash, Safari can sometimes 'hang', requiring a restart of Safari. This can often be inconvenient, and as it is rarely Safari itself that is hanging but merely one of its plug-ins, usually Flash, there is a way using Terminal to restart the plug-ins (without restarting Safari and losing your tabs) by quitting the WebPluginHost process:
Open the Terminal from the Utilities folder in /Applications and type
    killall -9 WebKitPluginHost
Note that this command kills all Safari plug-ins, not just Flash. All plug-ins should start back up when you reload the page.
Then go back to Safari and refresh any pages that were using the Flash plug-in. This also fixes the Beachball of Death. Try this whenever Safari gets slow or freezes. The latest versions of Flash 10.1 appear to have improved the situation somewhat, but haven't completed eliminated it.

  • Issues with "Close Widow" for Safari

I'm having problems with the "Close Window" behavior in the
Safari browser. I have a popup window of some thumbnails which link
to larger images in the same popup. The "Close Window" works fine
in the initial instance of the popup, but not after you link to
subsequent windows. For an example, please go to
    http://www.greencitygardens.net/pages/portfrontThumb.html.
I used to be able to work around this in GoLive by using a
component for the "Close Window" button.
    Thanks!

For the first issue, in the Finder menu, select GO> then Go to Folder and paste this:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
Move the com.apple.dock.plist file to the trash and restart the computer. See if Safari will stay in the dock now.
    Second issue:
I've never used McKeeper, but search the discussion forum and I doubt that you will find one good word about it.
I'd see if I could get my money back and hope it didn't do any major damage to your system. Be sure to look up how to uninstall it completely from your system and don't just move the application to the trash.
