Ist gen nano firmware?

ITunes is trying to update the software on my nano from 1.2 to 1.3, but it tells me it can't because the firmware is corrupt.
Where can i download new firmware from, and how do I install it onto the nano?
I've tried all the resetting suggestions on the apple site, they don't seem to work.
Any other suggestions??
Thanks very much.

I don't have any of the software you mentioned. I have Zone Alarm but it gives iTunes permission so I don't see that affecting it.
... oddly enough, just this very weekend i've seen a case where Zone Alarm was producing this message. see:

by way of experiment, does the firmware update go through properly if you disable Zone Alarm temporarily?

I've got an 8gb Nano with firmware 1.0.2 which works just fine in my 2006 Pilot with the Honda Music Link. Does anyone know if the latest firmware, 1.1.2 works with it as well? I believe that 1.1.1 did not work with the Link.

  • 3rd gen nano shuts off automatically

When I dock my 3rd gen nano into my Bose portable it randomly shuts off and displays the battery charging screen on the nano.
When I press the start button the Bose remote the nano will play again for a few songs then shut off again. This doesn't happen with my ipod video.

I called Apple Support last night to make sure they are aware of this problem. While on the line, we tested a few scenarios, and it seems that the nano only shuts off automatically if the pause / play buttons are used on the Bose Sounddock remote. When I started the nano using its controls rather than the remote, everything worked fine, including adjusting the volume, skipping songs. Only the play / pause button caused the problem, but really, who knows at this point.
I also noticed this problem only after "upgrading" to firmware 1.0.2. I will try to restore the nano to its factory settings this evening (1.0.1) and see what happens.

  • Syncing issues with 6th gen Nano

    Hi,
Not sure this should be an iTunes specific question of a Nano 6G one, I plumped for this one anyway.
My Nano seems to have problems fully syncing playlists of either kind. I am trying to sync a handful onto it and having the following issues.
    1) To Listen - Peel.  This is a smart playlist with a single word keyword specification. This one syncs fine.
    2) To Rate. This is a complicated smart playlist with all the music I have listened to, want to keep but still have to rate. There are 7 rules in all and within iTumes the playlist shows up 73 songs. Only 1 song is shown on synced playlist on my Nano however.
    3) 2011 Compilations. I put together standard playlists every couple of months with best music of the year. Within my iTunes the structure is as follows:
5 - Years & Decades/ 2010s / 2011 / Compilations / then you have the standard playlists, 6 in all which are named 2011-1, 2011-2 etc. there are 88 tracks in these playlists in total.
I try and sync them and when navigating through it on my Nano it follows the structure above to 2011. It doesn't have the others though, no Compilations and no individual playlists. It means they are all grouped together as a single playlist rather than the 6 they should be.
And..... just to add another level of bizarre behaviour, within this group above are around 43 of the missing To Rate tracks (2) which show here but not in the playlist they are meant to be in. This is not all of them of course, around 30 To Rate tracks don't sync anywhere.
I am running the latest version of iTunes and the Nano firmware. Incidentally when I look at the content of the nano through Devices it suggests that the content should be exactly as I have defined it, on the actual Nano it's not the case. I have tried restoring the Nano but the same results are produced.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    C.

Since I posted this, I had lunch with a friend who is more knowledgeble about these things, and he answered 2 of 3 as follows:
    1) Apparently with new Nano (6 or 7 Gen), you don't need to power off completely, putting in sleep mode or letting it go to sleep mode (with track stopped or pause) is sufficent and does not burn up battery life. If you do this, rather than shutting Nano off completely, it does resume where you left off.
    2) More Clock faces (and other upgrades) are available in 1.2 firmware upgrade which can be downloaded from Apple.
    3) Issue with clock face not staying on, or with Nano being susceptible to command changes from pressing against while in pocket, etc, he believes there must be a lock function, but have not yet figured this out,

  • 2nd gen nano compatible with OS X 10.2.8 and iTunes 6?

I'm still using as my music hub an ancient but reliable iMac G3 running OS X 10.2.8, and the latest iTunes version supported on it is 6.0.5, and was wondering if the 2nd gen nano is still compatible with that? Has anyone been able to try?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
This is Apple's way of saying upgrade
The iPod may work, but I doubt it. Some iPods have worked with previous iTunes versions, but there were syncing problems (sometimes).
iTunes 7 changes a lot of things, so I don't know if the new iPod nano firmware will "understand" how to communicate with iTunes 6 or if it was taught not to.
Just my observations--but not really an answer. I would say no, but we can't be sure until someone tries!

  • 6th gen Nano: Sound quality and updates?

So I'm looking at possibly getting a 6G nano, couple questions. How is the sound quality? I recently bought a pair of $75 headphones and was very pleased with the them listening on my ipod touch 2nd gen, not so much on my 2nd gen shuffle. Can anyone compare the sound quality of the 6th gen nano to the 2nd gen ipod touch, or even the 2nd gen shuffle?
One feature that may keep me from buying this is the fact that it automatically sleeps after 60 seconds and there is no way to change this. So you have to wake the thing after every 60 seconds, which would be very annoying, especially if you are on a bike. Can/will apple do an update via itunes to add the ability to change these settings? For example the ipod touch has options to sleep after 1,2,3,4,5 minutes and never sleep. Thanks.

I think the sound is really good for such a small device. I don't notice much of a difference between the 6g nano and my 2nd gen touch. I do use better headphones. For exercise I use some sennheisers and also have a $200 pair of Dr Dre monster head phones that sound great! I do have the soundcheck turned on to even out volume levels between tracks.
I biked today with it clipped the left shoulder of my shirt. Yes...you have to hit the wake button to turn on the screen before you can hit the forward to next track button. Not too hard to get used to once you do it a few times. I do wish there was a way to keep the screen turned on ...maybe in a future firmware upgrade.

  • Is the latest update to the 6th gen nano a software download or does it come with the new watch faces and larger icons out of the box

Apple shows the new 6th gen nano with the new selection of watch faces and lager icons etc as per new update, but stores still have the 6th gen nano with just 3 watch faces and smaller icons etc. Is the newer spec just a software update that i do after purchase or does it come updated out of the box?
    Thx

It should come out of the box with the new 1.2 update, but if it doesn't you can simply connect it to iTunes, download, and install the update from there.

  • Voice memos on first gen. nano?

I know woice memos can be used on the second gen. but is there a way to use them on the first gen. nano?

As far as I know, no it's not possible.
Unless I am very much mistaken, the first gen nano software does not suuport this.

  • Can't import TV show from Itunes to 4th gen nano-running OSX 10.5 with Imac

This message has also been posted to the general use forum of the 4th gen nano forum.
Bought my daughter a 4th gen nano for Christmas. Also purchased a TV show from Itunes some time back.
This TV show has been in Itunes for months, and is on my 5th gen Ipod and plays fine, but will not import to the 4th gen nano.
Here is what I have done so far:
1.Plugged the nano into the computer, highlighted nano, clicked TV show tab, clicked the TV show we wanted to sync, then clicked the sync button.
2.I downloaded a sample movie into Itunes from the apple support site, and it won't import into the nano.
3.After researching, I downloaded and reinstalled Itunes and Quicktime both.
    Nothing seems to be working.
Funny thing is, there was one music video that imported from Itunes to the nan when I first registered and set it up, and it plays fine.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks.

My 13 yr. old daughter solved this problem, and successfully imported the TV show to her Ipod.
She tells me she has no idea how she did it, she just did it.
So, although I guess my problem is solved, I'd still love to know what the answer is.

  • How do i find my 1st gen nano library and transfer it to my itouch library

I had a 1st gen Nano and purchased an itouch. I noticed that once I registered my itouch, the nano library never came back up. I no longer have the nano. How can I find my nano library on my hard drive and transfer those songs to my itouch?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The music should be in your iTunes library. Open iTunes to configure what's put on your iPod touch.
If you had the +iPod nano+ set to manually managing music and have been deleting it out of iTunes after copying it to iTunes (not a scheme I could ever recommend) then you'll have to re-rip or re-import the music to iTunes.

  • HOW do I get the "watch" to stay on and not shut off on my 6th GEN  NANO?

After purchasing a $70 cool watchband for my new 6th GEN NANO, I'm very disapointed that I can't get the "watch" function to stay on more than 15 seconds.  AppleCare says that it isn't meant to stay on, it would run down the battery.  Then why put on 16 watch faces, and show it as a "watch" on everything you publish?  Doesn't make sense you can watch TV shows and movies, but doesn't have enough battery to run a watch face.   BAD design, and shame on APPLE for selling a dozen different watchbands in their stores.  Now don't you think the store salesman would say "are you thinking of wearing this as a watch, or to hold your NANO while you are at the gym"?   15 seconds is often not enought time to get setup and take someone's blood pressure.  I don't think I need to offer an explanation of WHY a watch should work more than 15 seconds without pushing a button, do I?

This is getting silly, but I'm not too young to remember the early digital watches.  The difference is that we knew what we were buying .  jThey were upfont about the FACT that the watches didn't stay on.  And how well did they sell as watches?  Hmmm    I don't think any of us said that Apple was pushing Nano primarily as a watch.  That said, this is not a third party "app" either .... 18 clock faces come with the Nano as a "feature" of the product. It's not a "digital time read out"... it's made to look and act like a watch.   Apples own website touts that you can change its face "to match your mood or your outfit".... The  bands they sell range from $20 bucks to like $150 bucks....   This is a HUGE money maker for them.   It is THESE KINDS OF FEATURES that brings people back buying new ipods, because like I said, without them, I have plenty of devices that already "record music", or "store pictures".    And your other points have zero merit.  Go to the Apple website to the Nano 6 page where Apple touts all of its merits. This is where Apple explains the features of their product.  There is a whole section:
    http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/features.html
Clock faces. Time to match your mood. Or your outfit.
    (copy below)
    It’s all in the wrist.
Do you wear your iPod nano on a watchband? With 18 different clock face designs to choose from, you can have a new watch style whenever the mood strikes you. Sport an analog face for a formal event, go digital for a retro feel, or choose a whimsical, animated character like Mickey Mouse or Kermit the Frog. There are also color options so you can match the color of your iPod nano. iPod nano watchbands are available in a range of styles and colors from theApple Online Store.
And last, for the record Sir, I have probably purchased 50 Apple products for myself, my business, and as gifts in the last 10 years.  I have had my manufacturing issues which Apple always responsibly took care of.  But I have NOT ONCE complained in this forum about ANYTHING. I am a HUGE Apple fan.  I felt strongly enough, that this issure warranted warning others about.  Mostly, I wanted APPLE to understand the gaff and perceptual problem which was created. Perhaps not to all (like to you), but certainly to some (obviously like me). Let's face it, we BOTH represent groups of the public, like it our not.  Especially, since I rarely talk to Apple staff, I'm an early adopter, and for some reason, I hesitated on this product and did talk to a couple staff members when I was in the store FOR OTHER THINGS. I bought one for myself, and three for gifts.  I've already returned the ones I bought as gifts, because when I showed my neices and nephews MINE, and the disfunction of the watch, they all lost interest in keeping theirs, and opted for other Apple devices instead.  And if you still don't think they are marketing this Nano as a watch more than  iphone, touch, pad, or classic, then I throw up my arms, and say Happy New Year.  You are Apple washed and whipped beyond repair. NOBODY is perfect, not even Apple.  Or, you.

  • 7th gen nano not recognized by windows 8.1 as a drive OR itunes

When i plug in (USB) my 7th gen nano, my PC (Windows 8.1) doesn't recognize it as a drive (it pops up as a drive for about 2 seconds then goes away) and itunes says its detected but cant be identified properly.  My 4th gen nano connects just fine.

  • 2nd gen nano not recognized by XP or iTunes

    Situation:
2nd gen nano with Nike+ will not appear in Device Manager nor charge. In essence, the XP pro computer does not see the nano at all. However, Nike+ still works, the nano still works in an iHome clock radio and it will beep when connected to a dock.
    Troubleshooting:
    * 5Rs attempted - however, since the PC Device Manager will not see the nano, I can't issue any restore commands.
    * even with nano in disk mode, PC does not see it
    * older first gen nano still works properly with same iTunes environment.
Has the USB on the newer nano gone bye-bye?
