The main screen has a grey drop down that says that I need to restart my computer by holding down the power button, it boots up fine, but it keeps freezing every few hours. Here are the programs that I typically run at the same time:
    VLC
    Azerus
    Camino
MOTU Audio Setup (This has all of a sudden started having problems minimizing the Window)
    Wireless USB Utility

I'm having the exact same problem. Main screen grey down with an international message saying I need to restart my computer... I took the drastic step and went through the process of archiving my content and erasing the drive -- gone through 7 passes to zero out the hard drive -- and reinstalling OS X with new clean softwares. I've spent several hours Google searching and scouring Apple Discussions and it appears that the kernel panic issues is more common than normal with the latest OS X 10.5.4.

  • ITunes keeps freezing entire computer

Ok, I have an early 2008 macbook and have the most recent iTunes installed. I believe its 11.02 or something. I wish I could give more information but it keeps freezing up my entire computer when it opens. I have to restart my computer to get it working again and don't dare open iTunes. I've done everything. I have deleted it and and reinstalled it and deleted and tried downgrading to 10.7. Everytime I open it, it tells me I have to upgrade and I have tried opening it with pacifist as well and the same thing. I have tried upgrading for the 10.7 on the prompt and still just freezes up everything. I can't do anything with it!! Please help. I would like to put some music on my iPod and use it for its intended purpose.
Is this just Apple's way into forcing me to get a new macbook? lol
This is the discussion I followed for deleting and downgrading.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4553695?start=15&tstart=0

I have also tried using other music players such as clementine and songbird and they also freeze my entire mac upon opening.

  • My ipod classic keeps freezing my computer

everytime i plug it into my computer it freezes it, does anyone know what could be causing this?

So does my 160GB classic. iTunes won't recognise it either. Am at a loss to know what to do as I haven't been able to get any music on it or anything. All suggestions gratefully received.

  • Downloading video from Itunes keeps freezing my computer.  It worked last night but now today

last night I downloaded two episodes of Game of Thrones without much trouble.  Today I've tried to download a third episode but the amount of time required goes up instead of down. Eventually, the computer freezes.  I have a PC with Windows 7.

The easiest way is to restore from your backups. You did make backups of that $5000 worth of purchased music, didn't you?
If you didn't, then it is possible to transfer your tracks from an iPod back to iTunes. It's been covered here a number of times already, but again:
First, you need to prevent automatic synchronzation with a blank copy of iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer, click "cancel" when iTunes presents the dialog box offering to synchronize to the iPod. Or hold down the Shift and Ctrl keys in Windows. This should stop the iPod from auto synching with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 3 and 25 seconds depending on your computer.
Then if you're using iTunes 7, you can then copy music that you purchased from the iTunes Store back to iTunes directly. Just use the Transfer Purchases From iPod command under the iTunes File menu.
If you're not using iTunes 7 or want to copy back other tracks, the easiest way will be to search VersionTracker for "iPod". You'll find a number of utilities that can transfer your tracks and your playlists from your iPod back to your PC.
It's also possible to do this manually, but the procedure is rather involved. If you're interested, though, see this thread:
    MacMuse: Computer crashed
    Hope this helps.

  • Lightroom 5.3 Just installed and Keeps Freezing my Computer

I just installed Lightroom 5.3 64bit on my windows 7 PC. Now when I open LR5.3 it spends a lot of time loading and when it finally stops after lets say 15 minutes, my computer has frozen and I need to power the PC off since Control Alt -delete will not register..  The problem started when I was editing an image in develope using the Brush to change some of the image details.
Please help, I have lost over 7 hours of time dealing with this..
    Thanks

Well, after a bit of trial & error, I may have a piece of the puzzle solved. Just for grins, I enabled the Administrator account on my Win 7 box. I then logged off of my regular user's account (which does have Administrator authority) and logged in as the THE Administrator. I launched LR and low and behold, everything now works.
I'd have to conclude that there is a permissions issue going on with LR 5.3.
If you'd like to try this yourself, just google, "How to activate the Administrators account in Windows 7".

  • I upgraded to Mountain Lion and now my computer keeps freezing.  How to fix?

I upgraded to Mountain Lion and nowmy computer keeps freezing.  How do I fix this?

I know you have 10.8.4. I'm asking you to download and install a Combo updater. This is not the same updater used through the App Store when you simply upgraded from 10.8.3. And, before you do that I suggest you do this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

This forum is for people to discuss issues with other users. Apple aren't here. No one here can give you your money back. So, contact the the App Store support, if that's where you bought it. There's a link on the right hand side of the App Store window.
