Isue: After numerous times accessing saved search engines in browser, browser often crashes

Issue I am constantly getting even with new 5.0 version is when search engines r saved in toolbar dropdown, and when accessed immediately several times, all of a sudden I get garbage which necessitates me to clear history to start over again. It happens frequently. How can I prevent or fix this.I understand this occurs once in a while which is normal to clear history, but this often is not normal. I have Windows 7. This happenned when I migrated from Vista to Windows 7 I have this issue. Thanks

Hello,
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
Thank you.

  • Why does system preferences not pop up after 2nd time accessing it using right click on desktop?

Any help? Genius bar was stumped. I reinstalled mt. lion, but it still persists. Thanks.

Your question is very confusing ... especially "after 2nd time accessing it using right click on desktop".
"Using right click" -- why would you do that?  What are you right clicking?
"On desktop" -- does that mean on a vacant area of your desktop?
Anyway, a quick way to System Preferences is to simply click normally on the System Preferences icon in the dock, which looks like this:

  • Toolbar search engines keep reappearing after closing Firefox after "Managing" and unchecking "Show search engines" box. Why?

I have gone to "Manage Search Engines", deleted the ones I don't want, and unchecked the "Show search engines" box several times. Every time I close and re-open Firefox all of the original search engines are back in the list. Why is this, and how do I fix it?

Hello AleishaDawn1980, default search engines are stored in the Firefox [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Installation_directory installation directory] in the "searchplugins" folder, you can find and delete the "*.xml" file (e.g., "google.xml") if you like.
If the search engine you want to delete is a newly-installed(you install it) then it is store in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox profile folder] again in the "searchplugins" folder, find it and delete it.
    thank you

  • Spry content not accessed by  search engines

Since moving to Spry and using accordion panels, search
engines have stopped listing our web pages. It seems that they
    cannot access the HTML code.
Is there a way to set up the accordion panels so that search
engines can access the HTML content?

In order for search engines to index something like menus on
webpages they must be in the body of the HTML for the webpage. They
can not be dynamically loaded into a webpage via a JavaScript. When
you view the source of the webpage that loaded into the browser,
what you see in that source is what the search engines see.

  • Saving search engines results

    hello ,
I have desgined a user interface using jsp and servlet that reformulate the query and send it to the search engine. I have a question how to save those results in a text file for further processing.
    thanks

web server provides the infra structure to search and return the query in HTML format. you can use some tools on top of web server to parse the HTML results

  • How do I access Manage Search Engines, I can't find it on my FF window?

I'm trying to delete all remnants of Conduit.com. I've removed most of them, but the FF home page is still under the control of Conduit. I can't even find the search bar icon. Sorry, but I'm not very computer literate. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

The Manage Search Engines option is on the menu that appears when you click the icon at the left end of the search box (usually it's the "g" for Google but your icon may be different). Is the box missing?
To switch your default search engine back to Google, and your "new tab page" back to thumbnails, you can use this extension:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/
If Firefox ignores those changes, you might still have a Conduit-related extension. You can disable ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    Any improvement?

  • After FF4 Beta, no included search engines

I even downloaded a new copy of FF4. I don't have the regular list of search engines in the search bar. Only Wikipedia showed up when the final version installed. I can't find the regular Google engine for the search bar.

Try to reset the search engines.
    # Left-click the search engines icon on the search bar
    # Open "Manage Search Engines"
    # Click "Restore Defaults"
If that didn't work then try to delete search.sqlite and search.json in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder]

  • After I remove a certain search engine, it reappears when the computer is restarted (and to add insult, as the default search). Apparantly some software is reinstalling it, but I can't figure out which

the engine that rerappears is ask.com

  • When I try to go to google or any other search engine, The browser freezes and I can't click on anything or go to another tab.

When I do a search on google or bing, the browser loads the page but it freezes and I am unable to interact with anything. The spinning "loading circle" in the tab just keeps spinning. When I try to close out and launch an older version of firefox, I have to end the process in the process manager.

  • Cannot access search engine - maybe "search" is not recognised as a context

    Hello,
I cannot access the search engine
    http://server:port/search
    doest not work.
Maybe it is linked to another problem:
I wanted to make a mapping between a
    context and a directory,
but "additional directory document" does not work.
So I created another Web Application
    (in web-apps.xml)
so maybe search is not recognised as a context.
well I don't know, and I wish someone had this problem and has a clue.
Thank you very much in advance,
    Pascal

    Hello,
first, thanks a lot for answering,
and sorry for the poor description
    - the request to access the search functions of Sun One
    is: http://server:port/search
    - If I define a web app (in web-apps.xml)
    with an empty context
and whose document root is /docroot,
    the request http://server:port/search
    does not work
    error: "file /docroot/search not found"
    - If I define a non empty context for my app
    the request http://server:port/search is OK,
but I will have to make a lot of modifications
    in my app :-(
Do you think there is a way to make Sun One 6 understand
that "/search" is not a subdirectory of
my app even if my app has an empty context?
    Thanks a lot,
    Pascal

  • Updated to Firefox4 and now it crashes every time I use a search engine... goggle, yahoo, bing, take your pick.

I updated to Firefox4 and at first everything seemed to run just fine, but then I tried to search for something, using Google... it crashed.I tried again, then with several other search engines... it crashed every time and took everything else with it.
I tried it with both the search bar and by manually typing in the add for the search engine. If I call up the site nothing bad happens, but it still crashes as soon as I start a search. Tried it with Explorer and Safari and everything worked ok, it's just Firefox having these problems.

    Hi talaimosr,
I understand that you have changed your default search engine because of the constant crashes. Please make sure that you do not have more than one version of Flash installed on the about:addons page.
Please also be sure to run run in Safe Mode to make sure its not an add on causing the crashing. [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]]

  • Personal domain; search engine behavior?

I have a personal domain pointing to dotmac. This is a commercial site so it is critical that search engines correctly direct users to the site without confusion.
I am assuming I should turn on Frames or Masking? It sounds like this will result in "mypersonaldomain.com" always showing in the addressd bar?
Given time, will a search engine index the dotmac web location rather than the more easily identified personal domain name? Is there a way to ensure search engines capture the personal domain?
I would hate to have to ftp the web files to the actual domain after each update...
    THANKS

    Or use cfx_NSLookup at
    http://www.intrafoundation.com/products.php?id=62
which though a bit old (1999) still works with CF 7 and it's free.
cfx_NSLookup will work with both TCP/IP as well as name.
cfx_NSLookup would also check your intranet and might provide a
false positive in regards to registered domain names.
If the domain doesn't exist, an empty string is returned,
with the option of accessing additional error information.

  • How do I change my default search engine back to google

my default search engine is ask.com
I changed my home page to be goggle but its the old firefox start unlike the one it shows when it sent me to ask :(
    Question
Every time I get online my search engine is ask UI have typed in google into my about:config settings many times yet my search engine remaines ASK (it changes back every time and iI used the google URL on firefox's help page)how do I fix this so that my search remaines with goole not ASK because I hate ASK(no offense ask).

    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
