Isync 3.0.2 and Palm Desktop 4.2.1

Hi - trying to export my Palm Desktop Calendar/Contacts,etc.....
If I'm in the wrong forum - please tell me where to go:)
When I export as vcal or ical, right at the end of the export - Palm Desktop unexpectedly ends... I still get a file to import - although when attempting to import to ISYNC nothing is there. I am researching Palm's website but if anyone has any input or suggestions on how I can get my Palm Desktop data to Isync - please let me know - thx......
Shelley

Ok now I'm trying to "bluetooth" my Palm Treo 650 to ISync and Isync doesn't recognize it? Any ideas? Thanks....

  • Synching Zire 31 with both Outlook 2003 and Palm Desktop

I use Outlook at work but not at home so I synch my Zire 31 with Palm Desktop at home.  It works fine synching with both.  I like the Memos and Tasks features better on Palm Desktop, so I would like to use them at work. I'd like my Zire to Synch at work with Outlook for some features (i.e. Contacts and Calendar) but with Palm Desktop for others (i.e. Memos and Tasks).
When I use the setup CD, it asks if I want to synch with "Palm Desktop" or with "Outlook and Palm Desktop".  Based on this, it sounds like I should be able to choose the 2nd one and synch with Outlook and Palm Desktop, but I can't get it to do that.  When I choose that option and then go into Custom for synch setup, the only options there are for Outlook.  How can I get it use Palm for Memos and Tasks?
    Post relates to: Zire 31

Hi..  Welcome to the Palm forums.  What it is asking is, for Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Memos do you want them to sync with palm desktop OR outlook?   Its all four or nothing.  When it is both what it means is if you sync with outlook, calendar, contacts, tasks and memos will sync to outlook all others, media, all your settings etc will go to palm desktop.  The main 4 can NOT be seperated its all or nothing.

  • Reinstall WinXP and Palm Desktop - Don't Want to Lose Data ??

Hi - searched for this in the forum, but didn't find any answers to my particular situation.  Just need to make absolutely certain I don't lose anything.
Had to perform a format/reinstall of XP in December.  All up-to-date with service packs, etc.
Now need to reinstall all my Palm stuff.
I have all the files from my pre-format stored in a massive hard drive backup on a separate drive.
My Centro is up-to-date as of December right before re-install; I have added some additional contacts/appts in the Centro since then.
I have added some other data in Outlook 2003.
Now, after I install the Palm desktop:
How would I perform my first hot-sync?
How do I get all my programs etc. back?  They are on the Centro right now - I don't want to lose them.  Some don't need to sync with computer and some do.  I can't afford to lose the data in these programs.  Will syncing with the phone (overwriting the desktop) allow my programs to stay the way they are on the Centro right now?
Do I need to do something with the backup I made?  Is it even useful?
Thanks in advance, and let me know if I'm not making sense.

    Hello!
Fresh reinstall of Windows and Palm Desktop?  If so then all you need to do is plug the cable into the phone and hit the black button.  Palm Desktop will prompt create new user, just hit yes and your all set!  The hotsync process auto does a handheld overwrite sync style for this inital process.  If you already created the username in Palm Desktop that is the same as the Centro and have not yet hotsynced, rename that user to whatever and then do that sync.

  • Ical and palm desktop - help

I'm using palm desktop to syn with my palm treo.
I would like to syn my palm desktop calendar with ical.
Anybody knows how to do it?
    Thanks!

You cannot simultaneously synchronize 'conflicting' data types with your Palm device. So, for example, your can…
    • synchronize contacts between your handheld the Palm Desktop, or
    • synchronize contacts between the Address Book and your handheld using iSync, or
    • synchronize contacts between the Address Book and your handheld using the Missing Sync for Palm OS and Mark/Space contacts
…but, you cannot choose to perform 2 or more of these options. You must pick an environment—the Palm Desktop or the Address Book and iCal—and a program by which to do this—the Palm Desktop, iSync or the Missing Sync for Palm OS.
The same is true for calendaring and task data. You must choose an environment and an appropriate program to execute and supervise your synchronization events.
It is possible to cross environments by directing contacts to one, and calendaring and tasks to another, but this is a special application best avoided unless you have a very specific reason for choosing this option.
So define precisely what it is you want to accomplish, and I will outline the configuration instructions you need to follow. It's also important to know which Treo model you intend to synchronize, as those prior to the Treo 650 present some challenges, and the Palm OS-based Treo 650 and later another set when iSync is the program chosen.
Any 'advanced' Palm device which uses Palm OS 5.4 or later is better supported by the Missing Sync for Palm OS, and any Palm device which uses the Windows Mobile OS requires the use of third-party software like the Missing Sync for Windows Mobile.

  • HotSync to Outlook 2002 and Palm Desktop

I use a TX with Windows XP and the Palm Desktop.  I need to do a one-time HotSync to Outlook, but can't figure out how to change the conduit to do that.  How can that be done?  I do not want to permanently migrate to Outlook.
    Post relates to: Palm TX

I was able to do the one-time HotSync to Outlook, but now I can't get it to sync to the PDS again.  I've selected that in the conduit selection but it still syncs to Outlook.  I know I had gotten a different selection box where my choices were to sync with the PDS or to sync with both PDS and Outlook, but I can't seem to get back to that place.  Can you direct me?

  • Blackberry Desktop Software and Palm Desktop v6.2

I am a happy new Blackberry so far, but have come across something that is very annoying.  I am attempting to move the data off my Palm TX, but the Blackberry Desktop does not recognize the version of the Palm Desktop software that I am using.
    What is making this difficult:
It appears that I have an unsupported version of Palm Desktop (at least from Blackberry's perspective).
I do not have the option to go to an older Palm Desktop version.  Older versions do not run on Vista.
    I do not have Outlook.
    Any thoughts?

Well, I finally got my Palm data transferred.  First, I was pleasantly suprised that Yahoo actually does have support for the Task List, which was the only thing I thought it was lacking.  I performed a sync of my BB with Yahoo and saw that a test entry of each type was uploaded to Yahoo and vice versa.  Therefore, my problem was then a matter of getting the Palm data up to Yahoo.
Approach 1:  Use the Yahoo Sync tool with the Palm Desktop.
Result:  Didn't work.  Yahoo Sync doesn't support Palm Desktop 6.2.
Approach 2:  Save the Palm data to an archive file and use the Yahoo Import tool.
Result:  Didn't work.  The file format for Palm Desktop 6.2 was not supported by Yahoo.
Approach 3:  Dig a flaky notebook out of my workshop and install an older version of the Palm Desktop.
Result:  I got the Palm Desktop installed, then noticed that this notebook had Outlook on it.   I synched my Palm with Outlook, then installed the Yahoo Sync tool.  Performed a sync and all my Palm data was sucked up into Yahoo.  Went back to my Vista machine and ran the BB sync and all the Yahoo data came down.
    Finally!
    Thanks for all your help.

  • 10.4.7 and Palm Desktop not launching

I upgraded to 10.4.7 via Software Update, and now can't launch my Palm desktop. I get the following error message:
I/O Error - my only option is to click OK, when I do, I get the same error message with the same OK button - when I click it again, the app closes. I've tried to re-install the palm software that came with my Treo 700p - no help there.
    Any suggestions?

I have the exact same problem.
    Gee, do I hate this!
I used to be an "early adopter", but it was simply taking more and more time resolving strange (/somebody else's QA) issues, and so I gave up on this behaviour.
Nowadays, I wait for a while and only then install new software.
However, because of all kind of security issues, you have to install your OS updates quickly and there you have it!
Please Apple develop a Palm-like device quickly (and include a phone!) so that I am sure the combination of "stuff" I have is covered by your QA tests!
I'm willing to pay for it!
Though the Palm is still a great device, the software integration with the Mac is a problem that's getting worse year after year.

  • OS 10.5.6 and Palm Desktop

Palm Desktop quits every time I try to drag or click/drag an event from one date into another.  Anyone else noticing this?
Post relates to: Treo 680 (Cingular)

I'm on 10.5.7 and I can drag items from date to date without a crash in Palm Desktop.
Maybe you have some sort of corrupt data file:
    1) Test this by creating a new user in Palm Desktop, then create an event, then move it from one date to another.  If that works, then your data file is suspect.
    2) If not, then perhaps your Mac user is suspect.  If you have a second user set up, try logging in with that user account, creating a new user in Palm Desktop, creating an event and dragging it from one date to another.
If it still happens, then, well, technically,  you should try that same procedure with a brand new Mac user account (3) but I'd be surprised if it went further than 1 or 2, actually.

  • 64 bit Vista and Palm Desktop...

Wow! I've spent hours on the forum and the web because my new laptop has 64 bit Vista (and is a tablet as well). I'm a long, long time fan of the Palm having had an original US Robotics Palm Pro (in fact I still have it and the original box!) I've gone through several iterations and currently own a Sprint 700p -all this time I've been using the Palm Desktop and have loads of notes, contacts, etc. I love the Palm Desktop as a simple way to keep all my personal info together in an easy to access format.
Now I understand that 64 bit Vista won't sink via the USB but that there are solutions to synch with either IR or Bluetooth (fine, but you lose the ability to power up the 700p -guess I'll have to find the power plug). However, what doesn't seem to be clear is which version of Palm Desktop should I install on 64 bit Vista?
What happens if I load 4.1.4E under 64 bit Vista or should I use 6.2? I understand 6.2 is missing some features. Would be curious what others have experienced.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts, inputs, experiences, and opinions!
Just food for thought... if I can't find a solution that I like; I might just keep my old Dell laptop with XP running and terminal into it from my new tablet. Kind of silly, but what else do you do with an old laptop? Only problem is, I wouldn't have access to it when on the road without having to configure my router and an internet connection; but in theory I should have all my data on the 700p when out of the house.
Post relates to: Treo 700p (Sprint)

Just to add on to what legendeld said:
Syncing will work fine in either solution, but I'd actually recommend using 6.2 for two main reasons. The first is that certain functions of 4.1 don't work in Vista. These include the Install Tool for adding files/apps to your device and the help files.
The second reason is that Bluetooth setup in 6.2 is much easier. In 4.1, you have to create a Bluetooth serial port and then set HotSync to scan that port for incomming connections. 6.2 simply gives youa Bluetooth connection option (as long as Vista recognizes your adapter).
Creating a serial port is pretty easy with most Bluetooth implementations, so you can still go the 4.1 route. But you won't be able to use the Install Tool if you do.

  • Exporting Calendar and Palm Desktop Quits

    No device
I am planning on saying goodbye to my Palm after 3 devices and at least 10 years of loyalty.  On Thursday, I'll be ordering an iPhone.  I have already exported my Contacts to Address Book, no problem.  But when I try to export my calendar to iCal (in a vCal format) it starts exporting and then the entire program quits.  I spent over 2 hours with Palm Chat Support last night.  We did a clean install of Palm Desktop.  Still can't do it.  I have DBFixit on my phone.  I ran that and it still doesn't work.  I have a lot of information on my calendar.  Could that be the problem?  I would hate to have to hand transfer all of my information onto my new phone.  Does anyone have any ideas?

  • Email and Palm Desktop

I am an old guy new to computers and just learning.  My question is can the Palm Desktop Contact List be used with any email programs i.e.. Outlook on my computer or must I use the contact list from Outlook to use its email features?
    Post relates to: Palm TX

Nothing that I know of. Also that would be doing things the hard way. Reason I say that is the Hotsync Manager includes conduits to sync to MS Outlook. This way you can sync to the same program easily and email with the same contacts. What you would need is a program that can speak to Palm Desktop and your e mail program. One such program is called Compainlink. You would need to by the software in order to do what you are asking, that is if the software will work with your e mail program.
Since this also adds another program that is using your data you risk data corruption or duplication. Please keep in mind that I'm just pointing out what others had issues with. Some have no issues with this setup. Others it was a mess from start to end.
Post back if you have any questions.

Sometimes, yes, sometimes no. When I first sync-ed today, I got the prompt, and when i clicked on VIEW LOG, it took me to a web page that said "FILE NOT FOUND "("Firefox can't find the file at /C:/Program Files/palmOne/Stephe/HotSyncLog.htm.") I re-sync-ed and did not get the prompt.

  • ISynch and Palm Desktop

Apple has always been about the user experience. That's the main reason the Steve's developed (yes the ideas came from Xerox PARC, but....) the OS in the first place.
Apple's latest mantra has been "seamless". To that end, why can I not keep EVERYTHING in synch? Shouldn't it be, following the seamless theme, possible and preferable to push my Hot Synch button on my T5 and have everything in synch? The handheld, palm desktop applications and the Apple desktop applications?
Impossible you say? I say, first of all, nothing is impossible. And second, it's been done before on the other platform. There was a product from DataViz (I think it was them) that would allow you to synch up the handheld to Outlook (I used just the calendar at the time). When you synched it up, it would synch between the handheld and Outlook AND THEN it would copy all of the updated records to the Palm desktop calendar.
Is it possible? If not, is anyone thinking about it or maybe even working on it? Or is it just me that wants to have the flexibility of using any application that I have to find the information I want?

Good thing someone got right back to ya... man I dumped my pre for an HTC Evo. FYI
There have been posts in this fourm that state that palm is not going to update the desktop OS and only 3rd party apps like Echo will allow you to use the palm desktop software http://www.chapura.com/echo.php <-thats the download page. also if you are going to a 64 bit OS you will have to use Bluetooth to hotsync the device

Hi.. Welcome to the Palm forums.  In answer to your question NO.  Hotsync will set the conduits for either outlook or for Palm desktop.  Technically you could synce to one, go to the conduits and change them to the other and sync, meaning each time your want to sync you would have to change conduits and this would add a very high probability to data corruption.

  • Sync with Outlook 07 on one computer and Palm Desktop on another?

Hi!  Here goes...Can you set up a Palm Centro to sync with one computer with Outlook (07) and another with Palm Desktop?  One computer is at home (Outlook) and the other is my work laptop which does not use Outlook at this point.  I would like to sync regularly with both.  Also....since my work might eventually switch to Outlook - can I change this syncing option at that point and sync with Outlook 03 on one computer and Outlook 07 on another?
    Thanks for all your assitance!
    Post relates to: Centro (Verizon)

Hello dcusuman and welcome to the Palm forums.
The answer to your questions is yes.  You can sync your Centro to Microsoft Outlook 2007 on your home PC and then sync to Palm Desktop on your work issued computer.  Later on, if your company switches to Microsoft Outlook 2003, you will be able to use a shortcut in your Palm program group to switch the Palm Desktop PIM conduits to the Outlook conduits.
I am going to assume that you are going to be using Palm Desktop 6.2 that comes bundled on the Centro software CD.  If you do, there is no reason to download or install the Outlook 2007 conduit update from the Palm website.  That update is intended for the older Palm Desktop 4.x and HotSync Manager 6.x.
