Isync, Addressbook, ical, Entourage 08

I was using Hotsync w/ palm desktop and Entourage 04, going well.
Decided to upgrade to Entourage 08, but then need to use Apple Isync conduit.
Yesterday this seemed to work, except I kept getting alerts that I had conflicts different addresses, so today I decided to do the following:
For the first sync I chose in isync "erase the handheld, then syncronize"
So my contacts on my palm were erased, calendar was not.
Now,
Since then after a "successful" sync, nothing happens.
No contacts are added to the palm, and no calendar events are added to the palm
Any ideas?
Entourage 08 and Addressbook/iCal seem to be talking ok
Tried removing the device from isync, then trying again, but nothing..

Sounds like something has gone wrong with SyncServices which needs resetting. Make sure you back-up your Contacts and Calendars first though.
First try the solution on the Apple Tech Support page below:

If that doesn't resolve it, try the solution I posted in the thread here:

  • ICal / Entourage invitation compatibility.

It seems there are several issues regarding calendar invitation compatibilly with iCal, Entourage, and Outlook. I've read the forum here, however, and have not seen this particular issue addressed, so if someone can shed some light it would be greatly appreciated!
In our office, some users are using iCal 2.0.3, others Entourage 11.2.1. When we invite each other to calendar appointments, there are various anomolies that occur. I'll list a few:
    iCal to Entourage:
    1) Some appointments with a 1 hour or less duration do not appear in the Entourage calendar after being accepted.
    2) Time Zone support doesn't work. iCal appointments are bumped back an hour for no apparent reason. However, if the time zone on the appointment is set to "floating" in iCal before being sent, it seems to work fine in Entourage when recieved.
    Entourage to iCal:
    1) All-Day events come through as 12AM-12PM, not an actuall "All-Day" event. Also, multi-day events appear to have the correct dates, but since they are not recognized as "All-Day" events, they do not span the days and only appear on the first day of the event.
These are the few off the top of my head that we've noticed. Are there any solutions for these issues?
    Thanks,
    J

    Me too. Same problems. Anyone?

  • ISync-ed iCal Alarms eMailed from multiple machines

I iSync my iCal between three different machines. However each machine then thinks it has to email me all of my accumulated Alarms, so I get three copies of each Alarm eMail. And when I wake my laptop, it wants to send its copy of all the emails before I can do anything else. Is there not some preference for handling Alarms, such as only via the "main" machine? Don't tell me the solution is not to Sync the iCal, or not to set Alarms. (OS X 10.4.11 and/or 10.5.2)

    BStaud,
If it is any consolation, I too will be interested in replies to your questions.

  • Synchronization Failed from isync Conduit iCal

I'm having difficulty syncing iCal and a Palm Z22. First, I export my calendar in iCal format from Sungard/SCT which is used at my school. While importing into iCal I get the following message:

Got it. That's very clearly a problem you're going to have to address at the source - the export stage - rather than from iCal after import.
Have you spoken with the campus technology staff familiar with SCT Banner or SCT Campus Pipeline about the issue? Surely, they must be familiar with 'standards-based' calender export.
The problem here is that there are SO many component parts: the SCT program, the exported files, iCal, iSync and Sync Services. It could be that Apple has failed to properly account for and handle something produced by the SCT programs, but it seems far more likely that the export files are non-standard. The exported records are essentially considered 'mal-formed' by Sync Services, and there is no way that you can diagnose and correct the issue on a hit-or-miss basis.
The whole push-pull or put-get technology behind Sync Services is complex and at times mysterious, and made infinitely more complex when you cross platforms, despite the existence of widely touted 'standards' for data interchange.
I would start by hunting down the local Banner or Campus Pipeline expert, and asking that individual why the data is not 'synchronizable' in its current form.

  • Sync 2 macbook pros / iPhone / iCal / Entourage

I can't seem to get the right settings. I have a work MacBook Pro, a Home MacBook Pro and an iPhone. The work MacBook Pro has Entourage on it. When I sync all these together I end up with duplicated iCal appointments. Like it will tell me 3 or 4 times I have the same appointment at 3 on Monday. How do I set up all the iCal, Entourage, iPhone and both macs so this duplication is eliminated. Thanks in advance.

  • Nokia to AddressBook to Entourage loses field

    Hi:
I use iSync to synchronize my Nokia 6230 with AddressBook. Numbers with default tag in my Nokia phone synchronize to "other" field in AddressBook. When that information is then passed to Entourage (sync services enabled), this "other" field is lost (it remains intact in AddressBook). So the problem seems to be in how Entourage receives the "other" field from AddressBook. Basically, it doesn't.
So, is there a way I can tell iSync to put the telephone number from the Nokia phone in a field different from "other" when synchronizing with AddressBook? Or, how can I get Entourage and AddressBook to fully synchronize the information, that is to have Entourage receive the information in the "other" field?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,

The numeral 5 is the numeric equivalent to the J key, as is the numeral 9 to the M key. It may be that the data field into which this information is transfered displays numeric characters only, and that letters which can be translated into their numeric keypad equivalents are, while others are not.
The solution is likely separate contact records for each individual, that than differentiated data on a single card.

  • ISync synced iCal calendars to phone but erased from computer.  Help!

I performed a sync today to my Motorola E815 cell phone. All of the contacts synced fine but the calendars didn't. All of the calendars from iCal were copied over fine, but the no longer appear in iCal.
Will syncing again copy the calendars back from the phone to the computer or will they erase off of the phone and no copy over. I am scared of losing them altogether. I could reenter them manually but that would take forever. Is there anyway to get my calendars back?
I had performed a backup of iCal a few weeks ago but don't know how to revert to that, plus I have made several changes since then.
    What can I do?

If you created the backup using the the option labeled Back up Database… under the File menu in iCal, then restoring that data is as easy as choosing the option labeled Revert to Database Backup… directly beneath it. If you used another means, restoration might be a little more complex. It depends entirely upon what you originally chose to to, as a restoration is effectively a reversal of this process.
In any event, to restore the information on your mobile handset to iCal, you should reset the synchronization framework by…
    • launching iSync
    • opening the Preferences… dialog
    • pressing the Reset Sync History… button and following the instructions which appear
You can achieve the same effect by removing your device from iSync and then adding it back. The key is to select the option to Merge the data in iCal with your mobile handset, rather than to Replace the data on your mobile handset with the data stored in iCal, which is presently empty.
If you do first successfully restore iCal and elect to merge your data, it will recognize equivalent records and merge them, and will add the records which differ on either device to the other.
The key to a successful outcome is to proceed slowly and deliberately, follow any instructions which occur, and ponder the likely outcome as you move forward. Generally speaking, you can stop at any point and back out of the process without affecting your data, though once you have reset or removed and then added back your device, the framework will eventually have to accommodate this change, and will perform a full, slow synchronization the next time you try to synchronize. Again, at that point if you cancelled earlier, you will have to elect to merge rather than replace data.

  • ICal -- Entourage Incompatibility?

I'm running Tiger 10.4.10, and Entourage 11.3.8. It would appear that there is (still) some latent incompabiliy between iCal-originated events and Entourage (MS Office 2004 for Mac) invitees. I have the latest versions of iCal (2.0.5), Tiger (10.4.10), and Entourage (11.3.8). I'm aware that there have been issues related to DST, but my understanding is that these should have been corrected by software upgrades.
It appears that the problem I'm seeing occurs only when iCal creates an event and invites an Entourage user. Here are my observations of such events:
    1. In the invitation email as received by Entourage, the End Date is shown as *January 1, 1601*. Clearly this is incorrect.
    2. The event posts to the entourage calendar, but with a duration of zero (even though the original event was created in iCal with a non-zero duration, say, 1 hour).
    3. The event does NOT initially show up in any of the Entourage Calendar views (Month, for example). Apparently, this is due to the fact that the duration is zero.
    4. If you open the event in Entourage and manually change the duration to a non-zero value, then the event will show up in Calendar views.
    5. However, the event is still displayed in Calendar view with a start time that is *one hour earlier* than the actual start time (the event itself displays the correct start time).
Invitations originated by another instance of Entourage seem to post correctly in all respects, so it would appear that there is some sort of incompatibility issue between iCal and Entourage?
Is anyone else seeing this behavior and/or does anyone know of a fix for it?
    Thanks!

    Me too. Same problems. Anyone?

  • How do I see my ical entourage events in iCloud?

I know that entourage does not sync to iCloud.  However it does sync to iCal so why doesn't the Entourage calendar in iCal synce to iCloud in any event?
    Thanks.
    Bill

I thought that was the case.  I'm happy enough syncing Entourage to my iPhone.  The last update to Entourage actually fixed that.  I was just curious if the Entourage calendar in iCal would appear in the iCloud via iCal. Obviously it doesn't unless you want to "force" the issue.  Thanks for taking the time.  Bill

  • Bluetooth iphone 4 macbook pro isync addressbook Google contacts

    Hi all,
Hope you're enjoying your devices, when your not troubleshooting them here
This doesn't appear to be a difficult request but its proving beyond me and I'm seeking help.
I would like to sync my Macbook Pro's addressbook with my iPhone 4 - the help file in Addressbook suggests its possible and my iPhone 4 and my Macbook Pro pair but don't connect. I sync doesn't like it and keeps overwriting all my data in Google contacts, that I ulitmately want to update with the information I have stored in the Addressbook, once I've ensured all the data on my phone is transfered successfullly also.
    Any suggestions?

You can't sync contacts with an iPhone via Bluetooth, nor is iSync compatible with iPhones.
Use iTunes to sync contacts by following the instructions in the iPhone User Guide.
Or if you upgrade to OS X 10.7.x Lion, you can use iCloud.

  • ISync and iCal in a loop?

I have recently had to reset my sync history. I now seem to have a problem setting my K800i phone to sync.
Having added the device, when I check the box for calendars, I get a dialogue box saying DO YOU WANT TO USE ICAL AS YOUR CALENDAR APPLICATION. I then click on Open iCal which brings iCal to the front. I then go back to iSync and exactly the same thing happens again when I click to select the calendars syncing.
I have tried removing the device and adding it again, to no avail. Any ideas?

  • Time issue in calendaring applications (iCal & Entourage)

I am experiencing some weird behavior when I edit or create new calendar entries in both iCal and Entourage. The event only shows the minutes filed (00-59) and no hour. I initially noticed the problem in Entourage and assumed it was an Office issue. After uninstalling and reinstalling office I realized it was happening in iCal as well. It is only happening in one user profile on my Mac so I know it must be something in the user profile that is causing the problem. I've checked all the settings in Date & Time and International but everything looks okay. I'm not even sure when the problem started or if it is affecting other applications.
Has any one encountered this before? Thanks in advance for any guidance!

Thanks sig! I've scoured both but haven't been able to find anyone having a similar issue. That said, my suspicion is this isn't an iCal or an Entourage issue since it is the same behavior in both applications. And since it doesn't happen in other user accounts, its clearly something within his user account. I'd venture to guess if we looked deeper we'd see the behavior in other applications that have similar functions (like Now Up-to-Date or something.) I suspect that it could be something like the International system preferences, that handle the time formatting, having a corrupt preference file or something like that. Unfortunately I haven't been able to identify which com.apple preference file handles the international settings or other time formatting functions.

  • Ical entourage sync

I recently upgrade my operating system to Mac OS X 10.6.1. Since this upgrade I can't sync my entourage calendar with my ical and my IPhone. I have tried the following with no success: unchecking the sync feature in all the apps, Rebuilding the entourage database, importing the events from entourage into ical.
Any thoughts on what is happening?

    Hi:
I'd like to sync Entourage with iCal also BUT I want iCal as the primary calendar.
I'd like to see ALL the data on my iCal synced onto Entourage.
I have iPhone, iMac, and Macbook; all with mobile Me running.
The iCals are all up to speed but Entourage calendar only has the few events from iCal that are from the entourage sub calendar.
    Any help?
    Thanks,
    Joe

  • ICal & Entourage Woes with CalDav calendars

    Hello all.
I am having an issue with calendar events from Entourage. The issue is, when I am in iCal, viewing my entourage calendar, I cannot move entourage calendar events to my caldav calendar.
Theres a catch to this. The events I am trying to move are organized by someone else. If I duplicate that event, I can then move the event to a local calendar, but not to my caldav calendars.
    Assume a few things here:
Create new entourage event, in entourage, and in iCal I can move that event anywhere.
Have full access to edit CalDav calendars set up on my machine.
If anyone has any insight how to fix this problem I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks!

well I am officially considering these forums to be dead ends. Anyone have some tips on good forums for apple questions? A forum where people actually respond?
    thanks,

  • ICal Entourage calendar totally wiped out.

I have been syncing my iCal and Mail with Entourage for the last month. It's worked just fine. I keep a two calendars in iCal-a Personal one, and an Entourage calendar to link with the Exchange 2003 server at work. Yesterday, suddenly, all the Entourage calendar events disappeared, from everywhere. Since I back up to MobileMe and Time Machine, I thought no problem. I'll get one of the backups. No can do. I have spent a day trying to recover my Entourage calendar. I thought this is why I bought MobileMe and use Time Machine. I hope someone can help me find my calendar data.

I did find out you shouldn't use MobileMe to sync iCal and an Exchange account, i.e. Entourage.
