ISync and Blackberry

I have a MacBook and a Blackberry Pearl and want to get the two working together - BB is already set up for mobile email but not set up with the Mac just yet.
A few questions which people far brighter than me may be able to answer:
- anyone know which is the better application to sync BB with the Mac - Missing Sync or PocketMac
- can I use the Bluetooth functionality at all?
- what part does iSync have to play in all of this?
Many thanks in advance.

Actually, most people don't even know that the Sync Services framework exists! There is no forum specifically for that technology, although questions concerning synchronization are often posted in the Address Book, iCal, iSync, .Mac Sync and Other Bluetooth Devices forums.
The framework is, in fact, the back end of the Address Book, iCal, iSync and the many third-party sync-aware applications which exist, including Barebone's Yojimbo. This developer document provides an overview:
http://developer.apple.com/macosx/syncservices.html
One issue regarding iCal that is not well understood is that iCal engages in the process using a public schema, but iCal does not necessarily support all of the schema options. Recurring tasks are an example: they are supported in the schema, but not in iCal itself. This sort of issue drives programmers crazy, as they have to engineer workarounds to address them, and consider the impact of their code on the truth database and upon all other calendar-related sync-aware applications.
Your missing event issue is likely the direct result of something Mark/Space software engineers have done to compensate for a mismatch between iCal's capabilities and a feature they wish to enable, so their support forums are likely the best place to draw attention to the problem and find resolutions. As you're likely aware, they are largely moderated by the actual programmers at Mark/Space who write the application code for products like the MIssing Sync for Blackberry.

  • ISync and Blackberry 8220

I have a Blackberry 8220 Pearl Flip and was wondering about syncing it with my Mac using iSync. I've found PocketMac to be a bit unreliable. It keeps royally messing with my address book.

I've had much better luck with Missing Sync for BlackBerry. Not free, but worth the $$ to avoid many of the Pocketmac headaches.
Pocketmac has never quite worked right for me either.
RIM has indicated they are working on a native sync solution for Mac OSX. At this point it appears to be vaporware, but part of me still has faith that we'll see it this year.

  • Mac OS 10.9.1(Maverick) + Blackberry Desktop Software 2.4.0 build 18 and Blackberry Curve 9320 - unable to sync Mac contacts nor calendars

    this is so frustrating!
I upgraded to mac OS 10.9.1 a few months ago.  I can no longer sync my mac contacts nor calendars onto my Blackberry Curve - this is my business phone.
I've hunted and hunted around for a solution and have got nowhere, other than a very long convoluted method which requires me to back-up my mac contacts, go into various files and change things ... all very risky.  I appreciate that Mac have done the dirty by seeminly removing iSync and unabling Sync Services in the normal sense of the word, but I would've thought that Blackberry by now would have come up with a work around?
Can I export the data and import it into the phone somehow?  or Has anyone got a viable solution?  If not the blackberry is going in the bin and I will get a smart phone that does "talk" to my mac.
    Many thanks

I have the same problem, and a supervisor Apple Support guy just told me (23 jan 14), after 2 days of searching, that it is impossible to sync a BB with Mavericks...
I am furious too : it is just like if Apple would be telling plainly that an iPhone cannot phone to a BB...!

  • Sprint Phones - Best For iSync and Music

It's time for a new cell phone. I've seen lists of phones that "could" work with my Mac, but I am asking all those users out there, what is the best Sprint phone that will work with my Mac, iSync and also where I can put my music on it. Are there reviews out there with suggestions?
I'd love to have an iPhone, but we don't even have and AT&T store around here and I heard the service is horrible. I really would love to have a cell phone that works with my Mac. Please throw me any help or suggestions!
    Thanks
    Mike

As Sprint/Nextel—like Verizon—is primarily a CDMA carrier, your choices are limited.
To begin with, no Nextel iDEN mobile handset is supported by iSync. CDMA mobile handsets commonly offered under the Sprint segment do not use industry-standard SyncML or other protocols, are are therefore not supported by iSync.
Your best bet is to choose a smartphone: one powered by the Blackberry, Palm or Windows Mobile OS, and use a third party product like the Missing Sync application which matches the operating system of your device.
Sprint is set to release the Palm Pre, a rather revolutionary touch device somewhat like the iPhone, but which uses Palm's new Linux based kernel. It is quite likely to be supported by a yet unreleased product from Mark/Space.

    Hello !
Try connecting to App world after connecting your device to WiFi.
    Or else,
There is an alternative for your problem to resolve.
What you do is connect your BlackBerry Smartphone with USB cable to Internet enabled desktop/laptop.
Go to the link mentioned below:
    http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/
On top right  of the page there is a option "Sign In".
Login with your BlackBerry ID and password.
From here you can download all as you do it for Appworld.

  • Events in iCal doubled after use of iSync and Nokia 6300

    Hi,
I’ve got a problem with the sync though iSync of the Nokia 6300 and iCal on my Mac – a problem which might be related to the imported phoneplugin – but I really don’t think so, as other users doesn't seem to have any problems with this phoneplugin:
    http://nokia6300.net/3/isync-and-nokia-6300
    The story goes like this:
During sync with iSync somehow over 505 of the events are doubled in both iCal on my PowerBook G4 with OS X 10.4. AND in the calender of Nokia 6300. If I sync three times an event is tripled in both iCal and phone etc. It seems like iCal doen’t want to obey the phone during sync – and I always use the phone as my primary source – as far as I know, anyway. iCal is thus used as a backup.
And there is another curious thing going on:
I’ve created my own calender in iCal. Even though I subscribe to Holidays and Weeknumbers in iCal, they are turn of during sync with iSync. But still they emerge in the calender of my Nokia 6300 after sync. As far as I can see, the setup is correct.
If anyone knows how to deal with these issues, I’d be must greatful, as deleting all these extra events in the phone and iCal after each sync is both rather irritating and terrible time consuming.
    PowerBook G4 1.25 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   2 GB RAM

OK, I've found the answer. I've used the plugin found here (in my case the one for iSync 2.4):
    http://www.s60themes.co.uk/
    - and it works wonderful. Nokia 6300, iSync and iCal now plays together like a sweet dream!

  • Must-know BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry 10 tips and tricks

Check out the following must-know BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry 10 tips and tricks to get the most out of your new BlackBerry 10 smartphone.
    1) BlackBerry 10's Built-In Screen Shot Feature
Capturing a screen shot on a BlackBerry 10 device is simple. Just hold both the volume up and volume down keys simultaneously for a couple of seconds until you hear a shutter sound. Screen shots are saved to your BlackBerry 10 camera gallery.
    2) Volume Up/Down Keys as Media Controls
You can use your BlackBerry 10 device's volume up and volume down keys to skip through songs in your music librery. To enable this feature, open your BlackBerry 10 Settings by dragging down from the top of your display while on your Active Frames screen or a home screen panel. Choose Settings from the dropdown menu and click System Volume. On the following page, slide the Music Shortcuts button to the On position.
    3) Volume Up/Down Keys and the BlackBerry 10 Camera
You simply tap your BlackBerry Z10's display with the camera or video camera open to snap an image or start recording a video clip. But it's sometimes easier to use the volume keys. Just tap the volume up or volume down keys with the camera open to snap and image. And you can also use these keys to start and stop video capture when your camera's video mode is enabled.
    4) Instantly Launch Voice Control
The BlackBerry Z10 can initiate lots of different actions based on voice commands thanks to its Voice Control app. And you can instantly launch Voice Control by holding your device's mute key for a couple of seconds.
    5) Launch BlackBerry Camera from Lock Screen
BlackBerry 10 lets you quickly launch your camera application from its lock screen, a feature that can be valuable when you want to take spur-of-the-moment shots. A camera icon appears in the bottom-right corner of the locked display screen, and you can hold it for a couple of seconds to launch the camera app.
    6) Advanced BlackBerry Hub Inbox Controls
The BlackBerry Hub is the central inbox for all of you various BlackBerry 10 application notifications and messages. You can access basic Hub controls by clicking the Menu key at the bottom right of your Hub screen. (The Menu key looks like three dots stacked on top of each other.) But you can also access some advanced BlackBerry Hub controls from the date bars that appear in the inbox stream at the start of each new day.
Just hold a finger on a date bar to bring up controls that let you skip to the start of the past day, the start of the next day, jump to the top of the BlackBerry Hub, jump to the bottom of your BlackBerry Hub or mark all prior messages as read.
    7) Speedy BlackBerry 10 Navigation
The BlackBerry 10 OS can be broken down into three main components: The BlackBerry Hub; the Active Frames screen; and your application panels. You can do navigation through these components using a basic set of swipes and gestures. But you can also use the tiny slider tray that appears at the bottom of the Active Frames screen and all of your home panels. Just tap a specific panel in the slide to navigate directly to that panel without scrolling. Touch the Active Frames square, which is composed of four smaller squares, to jump directly to your active apps page. Or tap the Hub button, which looks like three horizontal lines on top of each other, to navigate right to the Hub.
    8) See Your Battery Life Status as a Percentage
The BlackBerry 10 OS does not currently allow you to set your battery-status indicator to show a specific percentage, only a battery icon. But you can check your device's hardware settings for a more specific battery status. Just open your device's Settings by sliding down from the top of your Active Frames or application-panel screen and choose Settings from the dropdown menu. Then click About. On the following screen, change the Category menu from General to Hardware. You'll see a battery percentage listed in the Hardware information.
    9) BlackBerry 10 Boot Status as a Percentage
Whenever you restart or power up your BlackBerry 10 devices, a BlackBerry logo appears with a status bar that encircles it. The status bar shows you start-up progress, but you can also view that progress as a percentage number. Just hold your finger anywhere on the BlackBerry logo and a progress percentage appears.
    10) BlackBerry Z10 Keyboard Tips, Tricks and Shortcuts
You can type special characters using the BlackBerry 10 virtual keyboard by holding your finger on top of a letter with associated special characters (e, a, i, o, u, y, etc.), and then sliding your finger over to the character of your choice.
Quickly sliding your finger downward from the top of your keyboard to its bottom cycles through the number and character screens so you don't have to tap the number/character screens button, which can slow down typing.
And you can delete an entire word instead of just individual letters by swiping leftward from the backspace key toward the center of your keyboard.

  • Motorola KRZR, isync, and, OS 10.4.9 "device not found"

I have had a Motorola KRZR for a few week now and have read it was possible (through a hack) to sync it with ical and addresses through isync. I figured that now the KRZR is supported by the 10.4.9 OS update it would be easy. I plug in my phone through usb to my ibook and open isync and click add device and I get an error that says "no devices found"? I tried both usb ports.
The more I read about this phone and isync the more I get confused. Is there something I'm overlooking? I have the phone on during this...
    thanks in advance...

apparently there is a way to edit the original plsit file to sync calendars. I've seen that many times on other websites. But I still haven't seen anyone sync the phone via usb like cmoney and I want to do...I hope someone can help. I'm thinking about buying one of those usb blue tooth adapters...maybe that is the way?

  • Address book groups not updated in iSync and iTunes-iPod-info sync

Changes to address book groups are not reflected in iSync and iTunes. I.e. if I remove a group or add a group it is still the old list of groups that is listed in iSync and iTunes available for syncing with my phone or iPod. How do I get these list to be updated and reflect the present list in Address Book?

The suggested resolution essentially said "delete the address book and start over."
Ok, I can see how this will help but... a few questions:
    1. How to I re-load the address book with my 500+ contacts without loosing my groups and all the data? The suggestion in the other discussion doesn't give any guidance on this
    2. What caused the problem to begin with? In other words, how can I prevent it from happening again?
I discovered the syncing problem about the time I did the following three things:
    1. Upgraded to 10.5.2
    2. Upgraded my iPhone (and iTunes) to 1.1.4
    3. Installed Bento (possibly a red herring) -- but it DOES connect to address book

  • ISync and iCal in a loop?

I have recently had to reset my sync history. I now seem to have a problem setting my K800i phone to sync.
Having added the device, when I check the box for calendars, I get a dialogue box saying DO YOU WANT TO USE ICAL AS YOUR CALENDAR APPLICATION. I then click on Open iCal which brings iCal to the front. I then go back to iSync and exactly the same thing happens again when I click to select the calendars syncing.
I have tried removing the device and adding it again, to no avail. Any ideas?

  • Mac issues with iSync and N95

I have just upgraded to an N95. I run an iMac with OSX 10.4.11 & iSync 2.4 and have installed the Nokia iSync plugin (and the Multimedia Transfer software. I have no SD or SDHC card installed in the N95.
I connect the N95 in PC Suite mode as recommended.
When I click Sync Devices in iSync, contacts are transferred from the N95 to the Mac, but not from the Mac to the N95. This occurs using both the "Merge data..." and "Erase data..." settings in iSync.
As my old phone (Sony Ericsson K800i) and the N95 are not Bluetooth compatible (when are manufacturers going to sort that one out), I have transferred contacts from the K800i to the Mac and want to get them onto the N95 without doing them one by one via Bluetooth on the Mac.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi jollyon!
Sometimes the iSync setup gets a little confused, sometimes there is some problem with the system. Same steps apply for problems with iCal.
    Your combination should work perfeclty.
So there are some things to try:
0.) MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR ADRESS - BOOK. Adress Book -> Make Backup.
    1.) The usual:
    - remove the BT pairing in System Settings -> Bluetooth/Devices and o your phone (Menu/connections/BT/devices)
    - repair disk permissions with Hard Disk Utility
    - re - pair phone and Mac.
If that does not cure your problem, try resetting the Sync - log. iSync -> Settings - Reset Sync Log (do not know the english word for ist...)
If that does not work, create a new group in Adress Book, Quit and restart iSync, klick on your device and look under the Adress - Popup, if your new group is there.
If so, maybe your contacts database is corrupted. Select all contacts, drag them to the Desktop. Warning: If you have groups, you will loose them! (Not the contacts, only the association with the groups)
    Quit AddressBook.
Go to: Users/Your user/Library/Application support/AddressBook, copy all the files to your desktop.
Restart AddressBook. Drag teh exported contacts back to the AddressBook - window.
If the new group/calender do not appear in the iSync - prefs,
    Quit iSync
Goto Users/Your user/Library/Application support/iSync/ and drag the SyncLocalCopy to your Desktop
    Restart iSync.
    That schould do the trick...
    Happy digging...

  • ISync and third party software

Having recently purchased a shiny new Intel Macbook (running Tiger
10.4.8), I was keen to get ISync (2.3) working with my Nokia N80. As
usual I've picked a model that isn't supported by ISync. Bah!
So to cut some corners until ISync is updated I have purchased third
party software from Nova Media in Germany.
I had heard that this solution was the best alternative and cost me 10
    Euros.
For some reason it won't work.
When setting up the permissions for ICal the check box does not stay
    checked.
Nova Media Support were quick to reply with some suggestions:
1: Delete old ISync permissions from Library.
2: Repair ISync using Disk Utility and First Aid
3: Reset Device Sync through ISync.
and a link to resolving this issue within the apple support pages.
(although the answer seemed directed at 10.4.6)
Tryed them all several times with no success.
This as you can appreciate is driving me nuts!!!
Anyone out there had the same problem, or any suggestions on getting
this problem sorted and cheering up my day?

I would expect Subversion 1.7 to work with OPM. Although we tested it specifically against 1.6 and 1.5 Subversion is pretty backwards compatible.
You can choose to installl svn as part of the OPM install. this is SlikSVN 1.6. If you choose not to install it. It will use the existing SVN client available on your machine. It detects this by working out if an svn client can be accessed through the standard windows path.
You can if there is an svn client avaialble by starting a command prompt and typing "svn --version" if it returns something. OPM should use this SVN client.
You don't necessarily need to use TortoiseSvn. TortoiseSvn is essentially an integrated user interface for Subversion in windows.
    Cheers

  • Isync and Palm conduit conflicts

I use iCal for my calendar and Address Book to maintain my contact info, but I prefer the Palm to-do list over iCal's - is it possible for me to sync this combination of applications? I was once able to do this (by moving conduits disabled by iSync back into my Palm HotSync conduits folder), but this is no longer working. The (apparently) relevant portion of my HotSync Log shows:
    Loading “Apple”

    Sync type is Fast

iSync Conduit: received NULL message, disconnecting... 7/6/07 12:12:48 PM
    OK iSync Conduit
    I'm using :
    - iSync v2.4 & Mac OS X v10.4.9 on a PowerBook G4,
    - Palm Desktop v4.2.2, and
    - a Palm Treo 680
    Any advice?
    thank you!

It is actually possible to do what you want, but an an additional step is required since the release of Mac OS X 10.4.
    A quick review…
What you want to do essentially violates the unwritten 'rule of conduits' which states that you cannot simultaneously synchronize a given data type with more than one conduit. iSync will synchronize contact, event and task data only with the Address Book and iCal. In general, if you wish to synchronize such data with the Palm Desktop, you must cease using iSync and revert to the Palm Desktop.
It is possible, however, to configure your machine to synchronize contacts with the Palm Desktop and events and tasks with iCal, or—as you wish—contacts with the Address Book and events and tasks with iCal.
In order to do so, launch iSync and select your Palm device in the main window. In the drop-down pane which appears, be sure that you disable event and task synchronization by deselecting the Calendars category, but leave the Contacts category enabled. Then quit iSync, and remove the com.apple.isync.plist file from this folder:
    Macintosh HD:Users:<username>:Library:Preferences
Do not remove the co-located com.apple.isync.registry.plist file.
[Don't launch iSync again until you have completed the steps outlined below.]
Make sure that these conduits are in the active Conduits folder:
    • Calendar Conduit
    • Datebook Conduit
    • Tasks Conduit
    • ToDo Conduit
NOTE: While this has nothing to do with your issue—if you have not already done so—move the Memo Conduit and Memos Conduit back into the active folder [from which the iSync Palm Conduit installation process previously removed them] to restore memo synchronization to the Palm Desktop.
In addition, the iSync Palm Conduit should be in the active Conduits folder.
These conduits should not be, and instead should be stored in the Disabled Conduits folder:
    • Address Conduit
    • Contacts Conduit
Once these conduits are arranged in the active and disabled folders, you may launch iSync and it will synchronize your contacts with the Address Book, and your events and tasks will be synchronized with the Palm Desktop instead of with iCal.

  • Outlook and Blackberry Calendar

I really want an calendar that will sync with my blackberry that I do not have to go online to use. I'm thinking of purchasing Outlook 07 for my laptop. My question is, I realize this is an email program also. I do not have to be online to manage and use the calendar part of the program, right? And outlook does sync with a blackberry (I have 8900)? Thanks for the help.
Edited to correct grammar and now I'm editing because I realize what I've said is confusing. So here is additonal explanation.
I knew I didn't explain that well enough. I know that I can sync with yahoo calendar and google calendar with my blackberry. I want to be able to share info between my device and my computer. I have no problems using google or yahoo calendars on my laptop. They are both excellent calendar programs. The problem is the internet is not really reliable at school and also they have gotten much stricter about which sites we can access and which ones we can't. I've heard that yahoo is now off limits so that means that calendar can't be used at school. That leaves google calendar which is fine just as long as the internet isn't down. There are times when I have my laptop available and not my blackberry so I do want my life on my computer also. If I can't get online on my computer, I'm up a creek. So in essence, do you have to be on the internet on your laptop in order to access the calendar functions in outlook?

    Hi Kairo'sgrammy!
Outlook 2007 will sync with your Blackberry just fine. You will have equal calendars on both the PC and the BB.
Two big changes to think about.
    1) When syncing with Yahoo or Google online calendars, you have immediate transfer of data. If you updated Google
online calendar, or your Blackberry it would synch automatically, and vice versa.
    2) With Outlook the synchronization takes place when you run the desktop manager sync program.
Example. You enter a meeting on the Outlook PC calendar for a 9:00 apt. Later you use your Blackberry
to enter an appointment for an 11:00am meeting. Both appointments are not visible on either calendar
until you run the synchronize program. I usually run it a night after work. All appointments from the PC and
Blackberry calendar are synchronized on both devices, and reflected for the next day.
You synchronize the Outlook calendar and the BB calendar through the default email address on both.
Let me know if this makes sense!
Thanks. Someone on a delphiforum mentioned that you can sync google with outlook so if you are wirelessly synced with google on your blackberry phone, that might work to update outlook. I've got outlook on order and amazon is sending it via pony express, LOL, so I'll be able to figure out more then. Whether it does or doesn't sync wireless is fine with me. Syncing physically and daily works for me. The sync does work well with google and blackberry as far as calendar stuff goes. It won't sync memo stuff or task stuff wirelessly. If I want google to know a task, I put it in the calendar seeing as I schedule most tasks anyway. If I don't, I get too wishy washy about them.
