ISync and CalDAV calendars in iCal

Hi,
I have switched my local iCal calendars to serverbased calendars. The communication protocol is CalDAV. The syncronisation of my new CalDAV calenders to my mobile phone with iSync works fine. But these calendars appear in iSync as read only calendars and I can't select one to store events created on my phone.
In iCal these calendars are writeable. How can I configure iSync to use not only local but also CalDAV calenders to store events?
Regards,
Stefan

I had the same problem. I found a solution in iCal's Help section, in a support article entitled "Mac OS X 10.5: Resetting the SyncServices folder".
After following the instructions in the support article (see below), the problem was fixed on my computer.
Following is the relevant text from the support article.
Reset the SyncServices folder with these steps in Mac OS X 10.5:
Open iSync.
Choose Preferences from the iSync menu.
Click Reset Sync History.
If this does not resolve your issue, or if you are unable to open iSync, follow these steps:
In the Finder, choose Utilities from the Go menu.
Open Terminal.
In the Terminal window that opens, type or paste the following command on a single line:
/System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/resetsync .pl full
Press Return.
When the operation is complete, quit Terminal.

  • Force CalDAV calendar in iCal to send meeting invites via Mail

A handful of people are experiencing issues sending out meeting invite emails via a Google Apps (CalDAV) calendar that is setup in iCal. Meetings are showing up on invitees calendars, but they are not receiving email notifications about them.
Thread on that topic here: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Calendar/thread?tid=368ec40a6bdd7bb8&hl=en
    and here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2707217&tstart=0
*So, my question is this*: Is there a way to force Mail.app to send out a meeting invitation of a CalDAV calendar that is setup in iCal, instead of using whatever system the CalDAV calendar uses (in my specific case, Google Apps). My assumption is that iCal uses the Mail.applescript or Mail.scpt file that is inside the iCal package (iCal > Show Package Contents > Resources > Mail.applescript) when sending out an invite from a local calendar. Any way to force a CalDAV calendar to use that script?

    I had that problem too.
I changed my mail preferences "Add invitations to iCal" from Automatically to Never and that seems to work for me.
    Hope that helps

  • ISync not finding Calendars in iCal

To begin, I have "upgraded" to 10.5.3.
I just attempted to sync my cellphone with my Mac, and noticed that iSync was not recognizing any of my calendars in iCal. When I clicked on the Calendars box in iSync, I got the following message:
    No writable calendar was found
Before you can synchronize your calendars, you need to open a calendar application that supports synchronization and create at least one writable calendar.
Well, iCal should qualify, and it has worked in the past. Any idea why iSync cannot find my calendars?

  • Work around for iSync and k800i calendars

    Hi all,
I am using OS X 10.4.9 and iSync 2.4. On my Mac, I have to use Entourage to be able to use the email server here, so I sync my Entourage calendar with iCal by having 1 calendar in iCal called Entourage.
I have just bought a new SE k800i and when I first tried to sync, the contacts worked fine, however no calendars went across. I made sure the right calendar, in fact the only calendar, was selected in the iSync preferences but no joy.
I have no events that repeat further than June,so I'm not sure if that's the issue. Does anyone know of any work arounds for this?
Also, what's the best way to Sync, would it be via bluetooth or can I do it via USB?
    Thanks for any advice.

I don't think slideshows (or the iPhoto library itself) is backwards compatible with earlier versions of iPhoto, but I'm not sure. If that's a concern, exporting the slideshow as a QuickTime movie might be the best option, but that's getting off the subject of the thread, so if you have further questions about that, you might want to take it up in the iPhoto forum where people more familiar with iPhoto will be able to help.
    Regards.

  • ISync deleted a calendar from iCal

I'm very new to the Mac world. My PC died at Thanksgiving and I'm still getting used to my new iMac. I am using iSync to sync between my new iMac and my very old Handspring Visor Prism. Things are going remarkably well except now that I have moved all my (11 years worth) calendar appts/events to the iMac, I'd like to stop storing and syncing them to the Visor, since I'm worried that it will fail if it gets too full.
My bright idea was to create a separate calendar with all events from 97-08 and then use the "home" calendar from 2009 going forward. So on my next sync, I only checked "Home" to sync so that there would be less on my Visor. Doing this, iSync successfully synchronized the Home calendar (w/my newer events), but deleted my "old" calendar from iCal. I don't understand why that happened. I thought unselecting a calendar in iSync would do the same thing as the "Do Nothing" option in HotSync (literally, don't sync, but also, don't delete!).
Is there any way to keep some events in an iCal calendar but not on your handheld device?
    Thanks,
    Tracy

The deletion of your unchecked iCal calendar would or should have only occurred if you first deleted the the matching calendar on your Palm device prior to the next synchronization event, and did not opt to reset the framework as described below. The appropriate 'reaction' of the Sync Services framework on your machine is to delete matching calendar event and task information in your truth database, and distribution those deletion changes to all other synchronized applications, devices and servers.
If you had simply unchecked the calendar in your drop-down iSync device configuration pane then reset the framework using the option in the iSync Preferences… dialog to do so and subsequently overwritten the contents of your Palm device—as opposed to merging data with it—your calendar would have remained in iCal but matching data would have been removed from the Palm device.
Whenever you seek to make a substantial change such as you did, you should back up your iCal and Address Book records using the built-in options in each application to do so, BEFORE you next execute a synchronization event. In that way, it's easy to 'recover' data when an unexpected result occurs.

  • ICal no longer displays caldav calendar but it's still there...

I find myself to have a strange problem... iCal no longer display a caldav calendar (which is my work exchange calendar via davmail app). But, it still appears to be there. In iTunes it is still listed in the calendars which can be synchronized with my iPhone. In fact, it is still synchronizing with my iPhone and up to date. If I add a new identical caldav calender in iCal, iCal only displays one calendar, as if there are no more, but in iTunes then two identical calendars are listed and on my iPhone all events are displayed double...
Any suggestion to get my calendar displayed in iCal again, or alternatively, how to remove the hidden agenda from the system so that I can resetup the calendar? By the way, I also have an MobileMe calendar running.
I look forward to receiving some hints as I am not yet able to solve this one.
    Cheers!

Problem solved by myself Rebuild the calendar database by exporting the ical archive and then importing it. After that the hidden agenda was gone in Itunes. After a fresh set up of the caldav calendar in iCal it was back in iCal and iTunes. The mysterious ghost agenda is gone. Hope that this explanation may help someone else in the future.

  • CalDAV calendars sync as read-only

    Hi!
I have a CalDAV calendar in iCal (Leopard 10.5.4) and can read-write-delete in iCal just fine. It syncs over to my iPod Touch, but as a read-only calendar--as if it were something I subscribed to. Is there a way around this? I imagine the same thing would happen on an iPhone.
    Thanks!
    Corey

Not to get off topic--but let's keep this to syncing CalDAV calendars to the iPod Touch and not a wish list of other features.
I'm still trying to find out if this is possible--having a CalDAV calendar sync to the iPod Touch as a read-write calendar.
Anyone else with some relevant feedback?
    Thanks!

  • Make caldav calendar default calendar?

Is there a way to make a Caldav calendar in iCal the default calendar? So that when you accept an invitation it automatically chooses the caldav calendar?

I tried the workaround you suggested, dragging the .ics attachment out of Mail.app and dropping it on the CalDAV (hooked up to Google Calendar) calendar in iCal, and I got a 403 error, indicating I couldn't do that because I was not the creator of the message.
It is also not sufficient to save the .ics file then double-click on it - there was word on the internet that this would cause a calendar selection popup to appear, but that was not my experience. It just created a new local (non-CalDAV) calendar and added the event - essentially useless.
So there is actually no workaround other than manually entering the data - very lame.
As a constructive suggestion, iCal could have all your calendars in the list of calendars that is currently the "Accounts" tab of preferences, and in that list you could select the default one.
It would also be nice (but is only partially related) if the iPhone's built in calendar let you select what calendar to create events in instead of just adding them to the "Calendar" calendar. I'm using the Saisuke iPhone app (which does CalDAV) instead of the built-in app because it's the only way to get CalDAV event creation interoperating on the iPhone.

  • Local Calendar and Exchange Calendar

I have a Local calendar and Exchange calendar in iCal. I don't really need the local calendar, is it OK to delete it?
The reason I don't want the Local calendar is that some appointments come through on the Local calendar and cannot be moved to the Exchange calendar. This means they aren't synced to my iPhone.
    Thank you,
    Rod

If you don't need the local iCal calendar, simply delete it. There's nothing wrong with only using the Exchange calendar.

  • Google calendars in ical over caldav go blank

Sometimes (roughly 1/3 weeks) my google calendar in iCal goes blank - all events vanish.
The events are still there when I look at the calendar online.
I have ~5000 events over several years.
I added the calendar via Callaboration.
    This is my default calendar.
I have 3 separate machines that use caldav to access the same google calendar and they both have the same problem but generally not at the same time.
    Can anyone please help?
    Thanks,
    Chris

Just out of interest what should he Calendar list be named as iCloud or @me.com.
It doesn't matter - you can name it whatever you want. It's purely a descriptive label, nothing more.
If you want to change it, just go into the Mail, Contacts & Calendars system preferences pane, select the account in the left panel, click Details... on the right and enter the new name in the Description field.
Also why when looking at File - New Calendar are both iCloud and my me.com account listed?
It does the same for me too. It seems to be a bug. iCal seems to be seeing your AppleID as an extra potential place to store calendars, although it doesn't actually do anything if you try.

  • ISync and iCal in a loop?

I have recently had to reset my sync history. I now seem to have a problem setting my K800i phone to sync.
Having added the device, when I check the box for calendars, I get a dialogue box saying DO YOU WANT TO USE ICAL AS YOUR CALENDAR APPLICATION. I then click on Open iCal which brings iCal to the front. I then go back to iSync and exactly the same thing happens again when I click to select the calendars syncing.
I have tried removing the device and adding it again, to no avail. Any ideas?

  • ICal import to a CalDav calendar created by Calaboration (for Google Cal)

I connected 6 of my calendars from Google Cal to iCal through CalDav with Calaboration. I wanted to take my existing iCal events and push them to the Google Cal calendars.
I tried exporting my existing iCal calendar as an ICS file, then importing it to the newly created Google Cal calendar. It worked for one calendar, and since then has just stuck on "Importing" whenever I try to import other calendars.
The CalDev calendars sync with Google Cal just fine, because I can create events on one end and they'll show up on the other. The problem is with importing. I've tried importing smaller files than the one that worked, and they just won't go.
    Suggestions?

    3.0.5 (1270)
Just to check I wasn't going mad, I just did this:
    Opened GCal in Safari.
Created a new calendar: "Test Calendar"
Started Calaboration. Selected only the new calendar
    Closed iCal when prompted
Opened iCal and after the (rather alarming) 'upgrading calendars' message I had GOOGLE:TEST CALENDAR with Test Calendar listed under it. (This can also be seen as a CalDAV account in preferences.)
Right-clicking on the calendar name, I get "Show CalDAV Queue" as the first item.
Are you using a different version of iCal? If not, perhaps you would be best advised to go into iCal Preferences, to delete the CalDAV account and start again?
Edit: Just noticed you are running the same version, but advice still stands.

  • ICal & Entourage Woes with CalDav calendars

    Hello all.
I am having an issue with calendar events from Entourage. The issue is, when I am in iCal, viewing my entourage calendar, I cannot move entourage calendar events to my caldav calendar.
Theres a catch to this. The events I am trying to move are organized by someone else. If I duplicate that event, I can then move the event to a local calendar, but not to my caldav calendars.
    Assume a few things here:
Create new entourage event, in entourage, and in iCal I can move that event anywhere.
Have full access to edit CalDav calendars set up on my machine.
If anyone has any insight how to fix this problem I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks!

well I am officially considering these forums to be dead ends. Anyone have some tips on good forums for apple questions? A forum where people actually respond?
    thanks,

  • Ical keeps adding and deleting calendars!?

    Hi
we are sharing one .mac account for ical, with same login between 2 people.
ever since upgrading to tiger, and maybe before but i'm not sure, ical keeps on thinking events have changed and i get a pop up window that says for example, 11 calendars added, 6 deleted, 657 appointments modified.
    WHAT IS GOING ON!!?
    nothing has changed
we do have timezones activated, but i don't understand why we are getting this issue. help please!

I kept searching and found a solution from Kerry at http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.mac.office.entourage/browse_thre ad/thread/a758c477739cdab3/5b609b739511232e#5b609b739511232e
    Thanks!
This worked for me. Of course, it means choosing to update either the Calendar or my Contacts but for now, this is better than the mess I was having. Here is Kerry's solution:
*The best thing to do is sync only one module, in my case its Calendar as this is the thing I change all the time whereas I rarely change contacts.
    1. Go into Entourage PREFERENCES > SYNC SERVICES > UNCHECK SYNC SERVICES
    2. Back up your main Entourage identity and iCal.
    3. Open and Run iSync.
    4. Go into iSync prefs and reset sync history.
    5. Restore the iCal calendar from the backup. This resets sync services.
    6. Delete the Entourage calendar in iCal (this will avoid dups).
    7. Go to Entourage and in prefs in sync services enable (check)
Calendar and when the popup appears choose Merge then OK. Entourage
will recreate an Entourage calendar in iCal and populate it with its
information (this takes a few seconds depending on the size of the
calendar. Sync should work both ways now.
Note: I would not turn on Contacts as this will cause sync services to become unstable again.

  • What determines if an iCal event on CalDAV calendar is editable?

We are using iCal3 to link to a CalDAV calendar store. This allows us to also access the calendar store from other things - such as web based calendar interface and other CalDAV aware calendars.
We've found that events created or edited in other applications / via the web are not always editable when viewed in iCal3. Rather than seeing the 'edit' and 'done' buttons on the Get Info screen, they just show 'Done'. The event remains editable in the other applications / via the web.
Presumably the event is missing some XML tag to say that it can be edited. Any idea what it is? Any idea what can be done to tell iCal to edit these events? Right now all it is doing is encouraging us to use the other applications for our Calendar access in preference to iCal...
Thanks in advance for any insights etc.

    Surprise Surprise!
I realized after heavy testing, that a DTSTAMP: is not needed.
But there is apparently a problem with the DATE-TIME format: Perhaps for other readers, which are in such a desparate situation, as I am since two days now!!! here some explanations:
The reference about iCal format you find in RFC 5546
DTSTART; and DTEND; have a time string like follows:
    yyyymmddThhmmss
In the middle the big letter "T". But you have to add the time zone: for me it is the following:
    DTSTART;TZID=Europe/Berlin:20120608T062500
Now the big surprise: this time format with an hour over 12 ooops! I tested now once again like follows
    DTEND;TZID=Europe/Berlin:20120608T212500
    DTSTART;TZID=Europe/Berlin:20120608T202500
changing the hh (hours) with one hour difference up until here. 10 Minutes again, iCal was freezing with hours over 19. I swear!
Ok to answer my original question: What is the minimal format of an iCal event, which you may attach to an email:
    BEGIN:VCALENDAR
    BEGIN:VEVENT
    DTEND;TZID=Europe/Berlin:20120608T212500
    SUMMARY:Name
    DTSTART;TZID=Europe/Berlin:20120608T202500
    LOCATION:MUC
    SEQUENCE:0
    BEGIN:VALARM
    TRIGGER:-PT1H
    DESCRIPTION:Event reminder
    ACTION:DISPLAY
    END:VALARM
    END:VEVENT
    END:VCALENDAR
But be aware, that this is buggy. Be carefull and have a nice evening
