ISync and Palm : difficult

Hello,
There are 2 pbs :
* there is no way to have the palm icon being displayed in the isync front windows
* when the sync is started directly from the palm, it does not sync properly the phone number : as there is no more any way to reinitialise the palm with the data from the computer (as isync can't access the palm), it syncs in the 2 directions. Then the data from the palm generate a resynchro for 250 phone numbers (the home phone are ste as work phone in address book) out of my 560 contacts.
I have accepted once these modifications, then changed all the numbers in adress book to set them back as home phone... But on the next sync, it asks me again to resynchro the 250 numbers, as if it was syncing only from the palm, and not taking in account the adress bokk modifications...
I have already tried the followings :
* destroying the palm sotware and reinstal it
* destroing the "app support" for isync and palm
* destroyng the pref for isync and palm
I have tried to reinstrall isync, but the 2.3 version seems not available on apple site... (only 1.5, an 2.1 on another site)
Context :
I have re-used my palm after may be 1 year without any use.
I was then in a previous version of OSX on the last sync 1 year ago (I have read things about first isync and 10.4.6... Too late ! )
I have a Palm zire 31

There is no easy way to do this. You must manually reconfigure the conduits each time you want to move from one environment to the other. [But, see the note of caution at the end of this message.] Also, reinstalling the Palm Desktop after iSync is installed and configured can create problems, so if you want to move from one evironment to other, do this:
Locate the active Conduits and Disabled Conduits folders, here:
Macintosh HD:Library:Application Support:Palm HotSync
To activate the Palm Desktop, move this conduit to the Disabled Conduits folder:
• Apple [that's the Finder name of the iSync Palm Conduit]
To activate the Palm Desktop, move ONLY these conduits to the active Conduits folder:
• Calendar Conduit
• Contacts Conduit
• Memos Conduit*
• Tasks Conduit
The analagous but outmoded Address, Datebook, Memo and ToDo conduits should remain in the Disabled Conduits if they are present at all in your configuration.
*If activated, the Memos conduit will synchronize memos with the Palm Desktop. iSync has no memo function, and the older Memo [singular] conduit should always remain inactive if present.
To reverse the process, do just the opposite to restore iSync and deactivate the Palm Desktop. As explained above, however, leave the Memos conduit active if you wish to synchronize memos at all.
A word of warning: the SyncServices framework is complex, and subject to sudden and unexplained data errors due to corruption of actual data or the handlers which push and pull it to and from the truth database. Every time you act in a manner which increases this complexity—such as moving back and forth from one synchronization environment to another—you greatly increase the likelihood that you will corrupt your data, and you place your synchronization scheme at greater risk of failure.

I use iCal for my calendar and Address Book to maintain my contact info, but I prefer the Palm to-do list over iCal's - is it possible for me to sync this combination of applications? I was once able to do this (by moving conduits disabled by iSync back into my Palm HotSync conduits folder), but this is no longer working. The (apparently) relevant portion of my HotSync Log shows:

    - iSync v2.4 & Mac OS X v10.4.9 on a PowerBook G4,
    - Palm Desktop v4.2.2, and
    - a Palm Treo 680
    Any advice?
    thank you!

It is actually possible to do what you want, but an an additional step is required since the release of Mac OS X 10.4.
    A quick review…
What you want to do essentially violates the unwritten 'rule of conduits' which states that you cannot simultaneously synchronize a given data type with more than one conduit. iSync will synchronize contact, event and task data only with the Address Book and iCal. In general, if you wish to synchronize such data with the Palm Desktop, you must cease using iSync and revert to the Palm Desktop.
It is possible, however, to configure your machine to synchronize contacts with the Palm Desktop and events and tasks with iCal, or—as you wish—contacts with the Address Book and events and tasks with iCal.
In order to do so, launch iSync and select your Palm device in the main window. In the drop-down pane which appears, be sure that you disable event and task synchronization by deselecting the Calendars category, but leave the Contacts category enabled. Then quit iSync, and remove the com.apple.isync.plist file from this folder:
    Macintosh HD:Users:<username>:Library:Preferences
Do not remove the co-located com.apple.isync.registry.plist file.
[Don't launch iSync again until you have completed the steps outlined below.]
Make sure that these conduits are in the active Conduits folder:
    • Calendar Conduit
    • Datebook Conduit
    • Tasks Conduit
    • ToDo Conduit
NOTE: While this has nothing to do with your issue—if you have not already done so—move the Memo Conduit and Memos Conduit back into the active folder [from which the iSync Palm Conduit installation process previously removed them] to restore memo synchronization to the Palm Desktop.
In addition, the iSync Palm Conduit should be in the active Conduits folder.
These conduits should not be, and instead should be stored in the Disabled Conduits folder:
    • Address Conduit
    • Contacts Conduit
Once these conduits are arranged in the active and disabled folders, you may launch iSync and it will synchronize your contacts with the Address Book, and your events and tasks will be synchronized with the Palm Desktop instead of with iCal.

  • Isync and palm m125 don't work after upgrade to isync 2.2

My m125 pda and isync were ok until I upgraded. Now isync doesn't recognize my m125. I tried Missing Sync and it doesn't support m125. How can I solve this problem?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Although the Missing Sync for Palm OS supports only Palm OS 4 and 5 devices—the Palm m130 being the earliest supported organizer—iSync 2.2 should support your m125.
What Mac OS X release did you upgrade from? Does your handheld appear in the main window of iSync? If not, have you attempted to add it using the Enable Palm OS Syncing… option under the Devices menu? What does your HotSync log say about any attempt to synchronize? What version of the Palm Desktop is currently installed?

  • Need help with error message after failed iSync: Leopard and Palm OS

I recently upgraded to a new computer which came with Leopard installed. In my old computer, Tiger OS, all was well when syncing to my Palm device.
I tried going from handheld to desktop with slow synch turned on in iSync and now I get this message re: failure--
"iSync Conduit starting 9/6/08 8:21:12 AM
Timeout waiting for Sync Engine, exiting 9/6/08 8:27:31 AM
    iSync Conduit synchronization failed
“iSync Conduit” failed (error = #-2)"
    Any ideas--please help.

    I wish you success.
I have an older Palm, the Zire. Once I got the most recent Palm software and chose, at least for now, to use iSync, I haven't noticed any problems.
Since I haven't used the "T" family of Palms, I can only guess that the process is much the same as with the Zire. You can disable the MAc syncing, move your currently disabled conduits back into Palm syncing, reinstall what Palm lists as your most recent software (and make sure all of your calendar and contacts info is just as you want it), do a sync through the HotSync Manager (ignoring iCal). I'd do a restart just to clear the system. It appears there is a warning note on resetting the iSync history, so you might not want to do that but just manually clean up any inconsistencies in iCal before you try once again.
[I actually wanted to just accept my Palm calendar so trashed my iCal calendar after some questionable syncs, but you can do an export to save the iCal calendar before you wipe it out.]
But my impression is that to get pass the messages you initially wrote up, you'll have to ask the Palm discussions folks for help. They are very helpful.

  • Isync nokia 6620 and palm tungsten T2 with OS 10.4

I use isync to synchronize iCal and Contacts to these 3 devices via bluetooth, but when I create a new appointment on my Palm, it is synced with my computer but not with my phone. The appointment is only put on my phone's calendar the next time I run iSync. This seems to be the only problem--creating appointments in any of the other directions flawlessly syncs across all three devices. Also, creating or editing a contact on any of the three devices also syncs fine. Does anyone know if this problem can be resolved?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
What you perceive as a problem is actually a feature - a consequence of shifting synchronization of all servers, applications and devices to the SyncService framework. Now, iTunes is configured to interact with the truth database maintained by SyncServices to synchronize iPods, .Mac Sync handles a similar interaction to synchronize with .Mac, and iSync is relegated to handling mobile handsets and Palm handheld organizers and smartphones.
In the same manner, applications like iCal and the Address Book interact with the SyncServices framework, as do many third-party applications like MySync, the Missing Sync for Palm OS, DayLite, and others.
If your mobile handset is not connected via Bluetooth or USB, or iSync is not running when you initiate a synchronization event using the HotSync icon, or the button on your cable or cradle, then your device will not be synchronized until it is 'attached' and iSync is launched. This update occurs because the SyncServices engine is aware that the device exists and was not available during the prior event. As soon as becomes available, the update takes place.
If you want your mobile handset to be simultaneously synchronized when you synchronize your Palm device, then you must do two things:
    • 'attach' it via Bluetooth or USB, and
    • launch iSync prior to initiating the HotSync

  • Ical, Missing Sync and Palm Treo 680

Most of 2007 was spent trying to get my Palm Lifedrive to Sync with iCal using Missing Sync version 5 thru 6. One day it was fine six days it was not. Nothing I have found to be more infuriating and frustrating as trying to sync my Palm with my Computer.
So, with the arrival of Leopard and the much promised improvements to Sync Services I decided to perform a Clean Install of Leopard on my Powerbook, and run just a few apps on my Powerbook leaving the rest on my new Mini Mac. At the same time I decided to upgrade my Palm Lifedrive to a Palm Treo 680. So, New OS, New Palm, Leopard ready Missing Sync.
1st Sync was spot on. All my data downloaded from .Mac for iCal and AB, sync'ed wonderfully with my Palm Treo. That was on January 7th. Since then iCal absolutely refuses to refresh. And already I am beginning to feel that 2008 and Syncing will be as frustrating as 2007.
Why cannot MarkSpace sit down with Apple and iron out all the crap. For the last couple of days I though I would see if iCal was not communicating with SyncServices by using Entourage. But this only synced with AB and did not touch iCal. To do this I had to use iSync and during the first sync only 144 of 1456 addresses were left on my Palm! iCal - no change!!
So I dumped iSync/Entourage and went back to Missing Sync own Conduits. I got my AB entries back but absolutely nothing from iCal
When I wiped my Powerbook, I cloned the hardrive. Whilst routing around, I found a folder called FileServices in ~libray. This folder was over 12gig in size. What is this folder for and why was it so big? This could explain why my Backup Sets were getting increasing larger than my actual Hardrive even though I was peforming just a daily incremental backup!
Back to iCal. Is there any reason why iCal will not refresh after a so called successful sync with my Treo 680 via Missing Sync v6.0.2?

You might have better luck getting support at Mark/Space the makers of the program. http://support.markspace.com
I did briefly look around there and found this article, not sure if its related to your issue or not.

  • Uninstall isync with PALM?

I would like to remove the PALM from isync and i can do that. But how do I get the PALM to sync both the calendar and address book to my MAC ? Do i uninstall/reinstall the PALM desktop? Or is there an easier way? Thanks
    IMAC G4, IMAC G5, 12 Powerbook, 15 Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

I did it the brute force way-trashed all references to PALM and reinstalled then, synced with "handheld replaces desktop" and it worked fine. I may end up with "missing sync" but this will do for the moment.

  • ISync with Palm

    Hi Folks
I am at my wits end with trying to sync my Address Book with my Palm. iCal syncs no problem, but Address book is problematic. I can't get it to sync and I have followed all the tips and advice on the Apple website. Am I alone?
    Neal

No, you are not alone: everyone attempting to synchronize a Palm device with Mac OS X 10.5 or later faces this issue, which has been identified, but not corrected. It can be resolved by doing one of three things:
    • removing all identified Groups from the Address Book, leaving your contact cards intact in All
    • turning off Contacts and synchroning calendars, then turning off Calendars and synchronizing contacts in a separate session
    • ditching iSync and the iSync Palm Conduit for the Missing Sync for Palm OS, a vastly superior means of synchronization for Palm devices

  • Isync with palm 755p

I had to "hard reset" my Palm 755p, which essentially erases everything. I was hopeful that all of my contacts would return to the phone because I had used isync, but that didn't happen after the initial sync. Also, my ical has never loaded to my phone during a sync. I've spent hours with the Palm people (their online chat is very helpful) but they said this is an Apple issue. Any suggestions?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
For a number of reasons, I suggest that you ditch iSync and the iSync Palm Conduit and opt instead to use the Missing Sync for Palm OS. It is far powerful and reliable than the Apple solution.

  • Isync and Entourage X

I know that there have been prior discussions on this issue, but my problem has just arisen with the installation of Tiger and Isync 2.
I was using Isync to synchronize my Palm Zire 21 with Entourage X for my contacts and with ICal for calendar events.
I had made the settings using the Palm software and Isync to avoid any conflict between them.
Now, however, when I attempt to use Isynch with my Palm, it forces me to move the Entourage conduit to the Isync Disabled Conduits folder in the Library because of the alleged conflict.
Is there any way around this?

You can continue to do so, but you must first…
    • disable Contact synchronization in the drop-down pane for your device in iSync
    • reactivate the Entourage X conduit with the HotSync Manager, then…
take this additional step, which was not required under iSync 1.5 and Mac OS X 10.3.x releases…
    • trash the com.apple.isync.plist file located in the Preferences folder in your user Library folder
Only then can you launch iSync and synchronize contacts with Entourage and events and tasks with iCal.

  • Help!  how to sync iCal and Palm?

Hi out there...I recently turned back in my Palm Treo 680 and bought an iPhone. I want to sync my Palm data with iCal. There is information out there about how to do this if you still have the handheld device, but I don't, I only have the Palm files on my desktop machine. Does anyone have information about how to successfully sync between Palm and iCal given this situation? Thanks!

I you had been synchronizing your Treo 680 using iSync and the iSync Palm Conduit, you're set: simply synchronize your iPhone using iTunes and your contact and event data will flow to it from the synchronization database.
If you had been synchronizing your Treo 680 using the Palm Desktop, then launch that application, select the Address List option under the View menu, then Export… under the File menu.
Name your export file and pick a location to store it, then be sure that the following settings read…
    Module: Addresses
    Items: All xxxx Addresses
    Format: vCard
    Then press the Export button.
To export your event data, select any Datebook option under the View menu, then Export… under the File menu.
Name your export file and pick a location to store it, then be sure that the following settings read…
    Module: Datebook
    Items: All Datebook Items
    Format: vCal
    Then press the Export button.
Double click on each exported file to auto-import your contacts into the Address Book and your events into iCal.

  • Sprint Phones - Best For iSync and Music

It's time for a new cell phone. I've seen lists of phones that "could" work with my Mac, but I am asking all those users out there, what is the best Sprint phone that will work with my Mac, iSync and also where I can put my music on it. Are there reviews out there with suggestions?
I'd love to have an iPhone, but we don't even have and AT&T store around here and I heard the service is horrible. I really would love to have a cell phone that works with my Mac. Please throw me any help or suggestions!
    Thanks
    Mike

As Sprint/Nextel—like Verizon—is primarily a CDMA carrier, your choices are limited.
To begin with, no Nextel iDEN mobile handset is supported by iSync. CDMA mobile handsets commonly offered under the Sprint segment do not use industry-standard SyncML or other protocols, are are therefore not supported by iSync.
Your best bet is to choose a smartphone: one powered by the Blackberry, Palm or Windows Mobile OS, and use a third party product like the Missing Sync application which matches the operating system of your device.
Sprint is set to release the Palm Pre, a rather revolutionary touch device somewhat like the iPhone, but which uses Palm's new Linux based kernel. It is quite likely to be supported by a yet unreleased product from Mark/Space.

  • Events in iCal doubled after use of iSync and Nokia 6300

    Hi,
I’ve got a problem with the sync though iSync of the Nokia 6300 and iCal on my Mac – a problem which might be related to the imported phoneplugin – but I really don’t think so, as other users doesn't seem to have any problems with this phoneplugin:
    http://nokia6300.net/3/isync-and-nokia-6300
    The story goes like this:
During sync with iSync somehow over 505 of the events are doubled in both iCal on my PowerBook G4 with OS X 10.4. AND in the calender of Nokia 6300. If I sync three times an event is tripled in both iCal and phone etc. It seems like iCal doen’t want to obey the phone during sync – and I always use the phone as my primary source – as far as I know, anyway. iCal is thus used as a backup.
And there is another curious thing going on:
I’ve created my own calender in iCal. Even though I subscribe to Holidays and Weeknumbers in iCal, they are turn of during sync with iSync. But still they emerge in the calender of my Nokia 6300 after sync. As far as I can see, the setup is correct.
If anyone knows how to deal with these issues, I’d be must greatful, as deleting all these extra events in the phone and iCal after each sync is both rather irritating and terrible time consuming.
