ISync can't be launched

First time poster and recent Apple convert. I have my iPhone 3GS and tried syncing to my iMac(Snow Leopard) for the first time. iTunes won't let me sync because:
"iTunes cannot sync information with the iPhone because sycing has been disabled blah blah...."
Turns out that the iSync manager won't load either and upon further investigation it appears to be an issue with network logons. I have a mini mac server with snow leopard and login into OD and haven't had issues until now. So I assume once I figure out why the iSync application won't load, it will fix my itunes issue.
Most help I find isn't for network accounts but rather local, so they aren't helpful.
If somebody has any clue why the iSync application won't load for network accounts, it would be much appreciated if you threw me a bone.

Hi Eclecticsoundboy,
please let us know, which file you deleted... PLEASE, I have the same problem...
Best Regards
Ulrich

  • ISync can't be launched ... what do I do?

Am having all kinds of problems right now, and am not sure where to turn!
Missing Sync won't sync, and in the error log it says, "The synchronization engine is not enabled. Launch iSync and choose Preferences from the iSync menu. Make sure 'Enable syncing on this computer' is turned on."
I try to launch iSync and get this error every time:
    iSync can't be launched
SyncServices: Can't connect to the sync server: NSPortTimeoutException: [NSPortCodersendBeforeTime:sendReplyPort:] timed out (242621828.248645 242621828.249947) 1 ((null))
Can anyone help? What's wrong with iSync? I've tried restarting the system, does no good.

I recently made the same mistake.  The thing to do is download the new Quicken Essentials for MAC.  After you install the new version follow the instructions on how to transfer your old files.  There is a way, it just takes a little time and, if I remember correctly, it takes the info from your quicken backup files. Hopefully you had auto back up on and your files are intact.  I didn't and reconstruction was a bear but entirely possible.  The new Quicken is quite different but seems to work quite well.  Good luck.

  • ISync can't be launched - but why?

new iPhone4, day 1, task 1 - synch folders etc. iTunes appears to initiate the process, but after a few seconds freezing I get the following error message:
    *iSync can't be launched*
SyncServices: Can't connect to the sync server:
    NSPortTimeoutException: [NSPortCoder
    sendBeforeTime: sendReplyPort:] timed out
    (314907315.726664 314907315.729060) 1 ((null))
    QUIT
An additional message, which may aid the resolution, is "... iTunes cannot sync info with iPhone... because syncing disabled.. want to enable?" select YES, "syncing can not be enabled on this computer" select OVERRIDE, "iTunes could not sync because sync sesion could not be started" OK - then nothing.
I'm lost on this one - assistance appreciated.

This could be a solution but I never tried it because of this note:
"Note: Manually removing the SyncServices folder is strongly discouraged because this may lead to unexpected data loss."
But if it works without data loss, congratulations.
My solution was reinstalling Mac OS X, which is very easy when you have an Time Machine Backup – reinstall, select Backup-Volume, your whole data is copied back to your Mac without data loss.

  • ISync can't be launched on this computer

This is almost a follow on from my first post raised on 24th Dec 2010, and may shed more light on the iSync issue - there's some great mac-minds reading these; I'm not really one of them, so some basic guidance would be ideal, for someone to nail the problem would be perfect.
    1. every day or so, I get a warning message stating that the syncserver has unexpectedly quit, with option to cancel, relaunch, report to apple - this has been happening for a few weeks. Never gave it a second thought, not really sure when or why it started
    2. now an iPhone4 owner, I'm wanting to sync between MacBook and phone, but when i plug the iPhone in i get "iTunes can not sync information with the iPhone as syncing has been disabled on this computer. Do you want to enable syncing?" Clearly I select 'yes', but get the warning "synching cannot be enabled on this computer" with an 'ok' or 'override'. When I click override, iTunes goes through the 5 stages of synching and has successfully loaded apps & music. Fine, but I want to sync contacts, calenders, bookmarks etc, so I select these options on iTunes and click 'apply'.... I get the same "iTunes can not sync...." followed by the 'override' option. iTunes then goes to a 1-step sync process and freezes, displaying "iTunes could not sync info to the iPhone because a sync session could not be started" From here I can only click 'OK', with the final status in iTunes suggesting sync is complete and OK to disconnect. -- none of the sync requests have begun.
    3. I'm getting a **** of a lot of freezing / colour swirl lately - all applications seem impacted and switching between applications can be arduous - could this be linked?
    Thanks all
    Ben

I received the instruction from APPLE EXPRESS SUPPORT to insert this in Terminal:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/resetsync .pl reset
I did so and had this result:
2011-01-21 17:01:51.096 perl[345:807] SyncServer is unavailable: exception when connecting: connection went invalid while waiting for a reply
PerlObjCBridge: NSException raised while sending resetSyncData to NSObject object
    name: "ISyncServerUnavailableException"
reason: "Can't connect to the sync server: NSInvalidReceivePortException: connection went invalid while waiting for a reply ((null))"
    userInfo: ""
    location: "/System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/resetsy nc.pl line 38"
** PerlObjCBridge: dying due to NSException
Sync STILL DOES NOT WORK. Apple express said the mobile.me account handles this separately and does not use isync - but I am still in the same quandry - no syncing. What a pain. I keep looking and will post anything I find.

  • ISync can't be launched - SOLUTION

In May last year I posted that I could not use my MobileMe to sync my phone and computer as there was an error message. I could override to sync iTunes but not the calender and contacts. I had checked with MobileMe support and established that the error was not there but on my computer. The Sync tab just greyed out in MobileMe set up and I could not open iSync at all to even establish what the problem was. I just got an error message - Sync Services: Can't connect to sync server blah blah. I had fiddled around for ages and gave up. I have just been debited for another year of MobileMe and thought that I'd give it one more try before I actually gave it up as a waste of time and money.
I see that there are a few other posts with the same sort of story but no solution. So, I went back to my old post, which is now closed, and saw a reply tacked on by ThierryMC in August. I followed the steps and IT WORKED. Here is the post :
    Save your data
    and delete folder : user/Library/Application Support/SyncServices/Local folder
after you need to initialize the sync
So - I am reposting this here to try to save someone else the time and effort. And thanks for the solution ThierryMC. I am so relieved to be back iSyncing.
    Hope this helps.

  • ISync won't even launch- MacBook

    I just got a lovely Macbook 17"
It's perfect but for one thing- I can't get my Palm Zire 31 to sync with the macbook, and I suspect this has something to do with the fact that iSync won't even launch. It bounces a few times, and then nothing when I attempt to launch it. I can see the iSync menu but clicking it to drop-down is useless. I have to force quit it.
    Please help!

You must reinstall iSync using Pacifist and an original Mac OS X 10.4 Install or Upgrade DVD. To do so, download Pacifist:
    http://www.charlessoft.com
Then, launch Pacifist and insert your Mac OS X 10.4.2 Install DVD. Wait for it to mount, then press the Open Mac OS X Install packages button. It will begin loading the Essentials.mpkg files.
Find the Contents of Essential.pkg package, and click on the triangle to open it. Click on the triangle in front of the Applications folder, and it will open to reveal a number of files, including the iSync.app file. Select the iSync.app file and press the install button.
You will then have to reapply the latest Mac OS X 10.4.7 Combo update package for your intel-based MacBook Pro in order to update iSync 2 to version 2.3. You will find that package here:

Does it open in the guest user?  If it's not enabled, you can do it from the apple >> system preferences >> users and groups.  Open the lock, select the guest user account and check the box to allow logging into it.

  • ISync can't connect to .Mac

My Mac is behind a corporate firewall but I can use iDisk, Safari etc without problems, except iSync can't register with .Mac to turn on synchronisation.
After clicking on the .Mac icon in the iSync window it tells me I must register, I enter the computer's name and click 'continue', then it tells me that '.Mac is not available at this time. Please try again later.'
Today I have successfully added a mobile phone to my favourites so I know iSync is working ok. Maybe there are network configurations that I haven't set properly?
I'm running iSync 1.5 (v139) on OS10.3.9 through a proxy server, listed as 'work' below...

You are correct: this option in the Address Book is not compatible with forms-based authentication. You can only use it if FBA is disabled on your Exchange Server.

I can't open (launch) iTunes.  If I uninstall then reinstall will I lose my iTunes purchases?

    Hi Reeve7,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
In Windows 8, you should make sure you can find your iTunes library files, and you may want to backup to a different location. After that, reinstalling should fix the problem.
    Good luck,

  • 10.5.4 update broke iSync -- I can't even launch it!

I just installed the 10.5.4 update on my MacBook. The install seemed to go fine. After it rebooted, I tried to sync my calendars and to-dos between my MacBook and my Nokia 6126 (via Bluetooth) using iSync. (I have been using this setup for months without a hitch.)
The sync began, and then threw up a bunch of notices regarding items that were different on both the phone and the Mac, and asked which copy I wanted to use. I selected the appropriate copy for each case. Once I cleared these notices, nothing else happened. My phone never lit up (indicating a Bluetooth connection) and iSync was not present in the dock. Repeated attempts to launch iSync failed. I double click on the icon, but it doesn't show up in the dock. I've rebooted several times and repaired disk permissions to no avail.
I'm fairly certain that the iCal update in 10.5.4 is the culprit here. Is anyone else having a similar problem? Does anyone have a solution?
    Thanks,
    Chris
UPDATE: I just found an iSync discussion page (I swear it wasn't there the first time I looked for it). If this should be posted there instead of here, please let me know. Thanks!

My iSync app was apparently broken too, even after applying the update again.
However, one thing other users may want to check is whether they moved iSync from out of Applications into Applications/Utilities (I did this a while back, and had simply forgotten).
The version in Applications/Utilities is just fine. So delete the dead icon in Applications and you should be good to go, if this applies to you.
