ISync deleted local copy of Address book?

Hello,
I did a Sync today and afterward the local copy of my address book is gone. It is still on dot-Mac. Just not on this machine. How do I get my contects back on this machine?

It happened also to me, and I had support from Apple. You should reset the iSync information on your computer (advanced tab in the .Mac system preference) and choose the option of restoring everything from the .Mac database.
Hope it helps

  • ICloud Deleted  Local Contacts From Address Book

Okay, so I tried setting up an iCloud account so a family member could receive texts and messages via iChat. That was the original goal. I successfully set up an account, but iChat does not allow me to login via the iCloud account that I had set up. After sever attempts I decided to put that on the back burner until I had a little more time to look into it. In doing so I seem to have caused some other collateral damage which I didn't anticipate (see below).
Unfortunately, as I logged out of iCloud on the iMac, it wiped/deleted every last contact that was in the address book. My question is: How can I get them back?
I suspect that there is a "previous" or "prior" image of the data what was there. I'm guessing that Apple put some type of safeguard in place for just such an occurrance, though I could be wrong.
The Machine is a 2011 27" iMac running 10.7.5. The last backup of the address book that I can get to is from 2011. Actually it's the Address Book Folder in users>Library>Applications Support.   I made a copy of the entire system drive AFTER everything was migrated over from the old system that was replaced, and have it on an external drive.
    Some notes:
    - Time Machine was not active or on
    - iCloud was never activated until just recently
    - the person does not own an iDevice with any of the contacts
    - iCloud does not seem to show any contacts to even bring back onto the iMac
It seems like a really silly thing to have any local data removed AT ALL upon signing out of iCloud. What's on the machine should remain on the machine unless the enduser literally goes out of there way to purposly delete the information stored there. There should be no dialog box what so ever even indicating that data will be removed, and even if the data was removed there should be an easy way to undo the action in case the enuser misinterpreted the action. Before any of the data is removed from the local the information (or at least a copy of it) should have been automatically stored to the cloudspace PRIOR. Why on earth would Apple set it up in such a way where the default is to delete any local data at all?

No. Absolutely not. We'll just have to agree to disagree. iCloud should be able to be turned on or off on any given device associated with said account. Local stores should be synchronized and that synchronization should happen continuously if connected. When not connected, local stores should maintain their state. What would be the purpose of even bothering to "sync". Or are you saying that in effect everything is copied to a central location (ie the cloud) and any devices wanting access to that data need to be "signed in", and in effect becoming nul terminals with no local store? Why should the default assume users would want to delete the synchronized data upon sign out?  iCloud should be a "use as needed" tool and not an "either/or" tool. In this case *it* should have backed the data up to begin with. That is the purpose after all. I (wrongfully) assumed in haste that the information was backed up or copied elsewhere and that even if I chose to delete it from the local device, I would still have access to it because it was stored "somewhere". And if the data wasn't synced/backed up to "the cloud" upon sign-in, then a friendly reminder alerting the user that now data had yet been saved would certainly go a long way. But this derails the entire thread. All I want to know is whether or not there is a way to retrieve the data that was erased from the iMac?

  • Can I make a Copy of Address Book?

    Hi,
I really like Address Book. I have a group of children that I'd like to make a list of. They are all part of a program that was formed back in 1992. Our club has recruited about 1300 since then and I would like to make use of Address Book as a way to track and record them. I have a directory in a Word category, but it doesn't work the way Address Book does, and is difficult to use sometimes. The notes section of Address Book where a majority of data would obviously be placed, would also be a great way to keep contact with them if we have any activity that may interest them.
    My questions are:
    1. Can a copy of Address Book be made so that I can have Address Book #1 which I currently use, and then #2 for the children in the program?
    2. If this can be done, would I be able to keep a separate mail program to track correspondence?
    Thank you for any help!

For the Address Book, you can simply create a Group for your club. Click the + sign in the bottom left corner, and create two (or more Groups). You may want one for your club, one for your personal contacts. When you click on that Group, you will see only those contacts. This is your best bet if you want to stick with Address Book for this.
If you want two truly separate address books, that is more difficult to manage. You can have a personal address book, and use File > Back up Address Book to save that as an archive. Then delete those entries and put your club members in. Then use File > Back up Address Book again to create an archive of that book (give it a different name!!). To switch between books, use the File > Revert to Address Book Backup command to load the other book. You will need to re-back up each book every time you make a change to it else the changes will be lost. That's why you're better off using the Groups - that's what they're for!
As for Mail, again, separate programs are not the best solution. You can set up a different email account specific for your club emails (with your ISP, gmail, whatever) and different User Profiles in Mail for your personal email account and your club email account. If you are going to use only one email account, you can set create a folder in Mail to store your club emails, and you may consider a filter to sort replies from those 1300 people into a folder automatically.
    Hope this helps...

  • HT204053 My wife just got this iPad mini and I want to copy the address book on my iPad 2 over to the mini. Can I use iCloud to do this?

My wife just got this iPad mini and I want to copy the address book on my iPad 2 over to the mini. Can I use iCloud to do this and what are the steps. The 2 devices have different Apple IDs.

Download the "My Contacts Backup" app from App Store to your iPad 2. Make a backup and send it by email to your wife's address. Open this email from iPad mini and tap the attachment to import the contacts into iPad mini Contacts app.

  • How do I copy an address book from one user account to another?

How do I copy an address book from one user account to another?

You haven't understood me. Follow these steps:
    1. Log in the user where are the files you want to transfer, and open a Finder window.
    2. In Finder, select Go menu (on the menu bar) > Go to Folder, and type /Users/Shared. Now you're on Shared folder, so leave that window.
    3. Open a new Finder window without closing the old one, go to the folder with the files you want to transfer, and copy them to Shared folder.
    4. After copying the files to Shared folder, go to  > Log Out, and log in the other user.
    5. Repeat the step 2, and you will get access to the transferred files. Now, you can open them directly from this folder, or you can copy them to a folder on your user folder

  • How to delete duplicate entries in address book

Is there an easy way to delete duplicate entries in Address Book?

I have an iPhone where I create new contact details and a MB Air running OX X 10.7.3
In Address Book I see duplicate entries across the whole book. The other day I was traveling without my MB and needed to urgently reach someone who's number I knew was in my iPhone contact list for sure but searched and search and couldn't find it.
Turns out that when I had been going through the Adress Book on the MB Air trying to eliminate some of the duplicates I had chosed --without even knowing it or realzing it-- the card that I guess sync with my iPhone. It was gone. Sure enough, when I got back and looked it up on the MB Air it was still there not syncing to my iPhone.
I have used Address Book / Card / Look for Duplicates ...
I have also followed the Help suggesting and pressed Control / select to highlight two duplicate cards and even though the First / Last / Company / phone numbers / etc. are all the same I get the message: "The cards could not be merged because they came from different accounts."
I have checked with guys from the office who have the exact same problem with no idea how to solve the problem.
Is it that in order to use Address Book on both an iPhone and an OS X machine you've just got to be smarter, more sophisticated, more IT oriented?
Seems like a pretty easy thing not to be struggling with.
I should mention that I was a Mobile Me subscriber and now use iCloud which I'm sure has something to do with all of this.
But it seems pretty basic to me. If I have an Address Book it should synchronize between OX X and IOS.

  • I fixed my iSync Problem it now syncs Address book and iCal on 10.4.9

Ever since updating to the latest version of OS X 10.4.9 iSync didn't work anymore with my Sony Z520i.
Neither Address Book or iCal wouldn't sync at all and I tried everything even a fresh erase and Install.
Someone here on this forum told me to delete the folder SyncServices found in ~/library/Aplicatrion Support/SyncServices. I did that but it still didn't work so I replaced the same folder from the trash. I then launched iSync again, it did sync my address book only. I couldn't select the option for iCal in iSync anymore until I resynced my iCal in my Mac prefrences, after that I could select it in iSync but it would still fail.
So I deleted two files that belong to iCal located in ~/library/Aplication Support/iCal the two files are sync.plist and syncState.plist
When I tried it it worked perfectly iSync synced both address book and iCal and I have been testing it without any problems updating my address book and iCal for the last few days.
    It's 100% fixed :)

  • My copy of Address Book App was erased from Maverick. How can I replace it?

Address Book App was deleted from the iMac running Maverick. My other iMac runs Snow Leopard and that version of Address Book 5.0.3. won't run on Maverick. Where can I d/l the software?
And how can I copy in the addresses from 5.0.3?
    Appreciate the help.

I bought this iMac and another from a non-prof group that got a gift of newer Macs. The addresses in Address Book were theirs. I thought I was deleting them, but deleted the entire address app. This is the only machine I have running Mavericks. Others are on Snow Leopard.
I do not have the Mavericks install disk but I'll ask for it tomorrow.
PeachMac offered to install Address Book and any other system software for $69. But that's still not my contact list of 200 or so.
    I'm investigating resources.
First I have to send my broken, no-boot MacBookPro to Florida for a motherboard or whatever it needs. I have a Snow Leopard Time Machine back-up for that. I doubt there's a way to Restore that back-up to a Mavericks machine. Apple ain't that kind.

  • !!! isync just wiped out my address book!!!

I was working on my address book and suddenly it was completely deleted except for my email address and the Apple computer. I went online to find the my .mac address book and I found it was also empty. I went to my office computer to restore the .mac account with iSync. After some time iSync asked me if I wanted to delete all 788 files on my computer! But it did want to add those two files! I declined of course. What is strange is that it should have added all those 788 files back to .mac. What gives? Any clues!!!

Ok, I found a clue at Message « Refreshing contact groups and calendar information... » in the forum and finally resolved the problem. See the thread for the solution. The clue was to "reset sync data". See details for how to do this and how to deal with the "grayed out" button.
