Isync duplicated all contacts

ok, so my contacts on .mac reset - well, there was a prompt saying so when I accessed my Addressbook from .mac. I choose Sync rather than reset, because, that is what iSync does, right?
But now, on .mac, all of my contacts have been duplicated - meaning there are not two entries for every person and company.
When I go home, and turn on my computer, it will automatically sync with my .mac and I will then have duplicates on my computer also.
What should I do?
This is annoying. I continuously have problems with updating contacts also. I will make a change on my computer, or on .mac Address Book and I will go back to that contact a couple days later and the change will not be there. That usually happens when I try to delete an old phone number from a contact. It alsways comes back.
My understanding is that when there is a sync, that it takes the most recently edited data as the correct data. So, if I delete a Home Phone number on my .mac, iSync will override the Home Phone number on my Computer's Addressbook and delete it there also.
Am I wrong in my thinking?
Please help and thank you!

Here is the dilemna you face: iSync seeks to balance or equalize the data content of applications, devices and servers during each synchronization event, incorporating any additions, changes or deletions you have made anywhere in the data stored everywhere.
If you do attempt to synchronize with .Mac in an effort to restore the records you removed, what will actually happen is that the matching records on .Mac will be deleted—in response to your manual deletions in the Address Book—and they will no longer be stored anywhere.
Normally, you would perform a reset to correct this, but according to what you have posted, you do not have an intact set of records to reset from. That's a serious problem. You will need to manually add back the missing records to the Address Book, then synchronize with .Mac to perform the update. If you restore all of the records by hand and find that the Address Book therefore contains a complete set of records, then you would be well advised to perform a reset, but use your computer as the source of the records, and overwrite the records on the .Mac servers.
Some advice: back up your Address Book and iCal records periodically, particularly before making major changes to your data—using the built-in back up commands under the File menu in each application—so that you do not find yourself stuck in this position again.

  • ISync not syncing all contacts to Moto Razr V3i

    Hi,
I have a Motorola Razr V3i that I'd like to sync with my Mac address book. I'm running Leopard 10.5.1. I keep the Address Book as the reference for all my contacts. When I connect my Razr to the Mac, I want to replace all the contacts on the phone with the entries in the Address Book. I have set options in iSync to sync all contacts with phone numbers. I am facing two problems with this:
    1) During the sync, the application tries to replace data on my Mac with data from the phone. Is there an option that I can set by which the information on the Mac is never overwritten by the information from the phone? I want information to go one way all time - from my Mac to the phone.
    2) After the sync, I discovered that not all the contacts had been imported. A few random contacts are not transferred from the Mac to the phone. I thought that this might have something to do with the fact that the phone used to be synced to my earlier install of Tiger. So I did a "master clear" and a "master reset" on the phone. But even after doing that, some of the contacts (different ones this time) were not synced. And due to the problem described in #1, iSync tried to replace all my existing contacts on the Mac with blank information on the phone.
What's the point of iSync if I have to check whether all contacts have been imported, and manually enter the ones left out. I checked for a software update on the phone, but there was none available.
I'd be happy to provide additional information to get this problem fixed.
    Thanks,
    Saurabh

I am having the same problem with Leopard 10.5.1 Isync and my razor V3 from Cingular. In addition the contacts in my address book are duplicated after syncing with my phone. Basically after using Isync my address book gets doubled and cluttered with names and no phone numbers, the data gets completly screwed up. Whats going on?

  • Isync Tiger BUG: Contacts created in phone don't sync into Addressbk Group

This is a bug I've encountered with iSync running on Tiger.
I use iSync to sync my AddressBook contacts with my Motorola Razor.
I have many contacts, but I only need a few of them synced with my phone, so I created a Group called "Phone" in AddressBook.app, and have set my sync preferences in iSync to sync only those contacts in the contacts group "Phone".
When I create a new contact in the phone, and then sync with iSync, the new contact does NOT appear in my designated Group "Phone", but instead in the "All" contacts category. This didn't happen in Leopard.
What this means is that if I ever need to restore my contacts on my phone, none of the contacts that I created on the phone will be synced b/c they are NOT in the "phone" group, but in the All contacts category.
If my iSync preferences are set to sync with a particular AddressBook Group, then NEW CONTACTS created in the PHONE should update to that designated GROUP, and not be considered non-categorized in the AddressBook.app.

You must be mistaken (or very lucky!). This issue was definately around in Tiger too.
Do a search on these forums for the same issue, and you'll see it comes up time and time again going back many years, relating to all versions of Mac OS X and iSync.

You can even see in iSync's window that there's an option to "Put events created on phone into:" pop-up, but no equivalent option for Contacts.

  • Not all contacts in "To..." field in Nokia Text Me...

    Hello,
I noticed, that in the field "To..." in Nokia Text Message Editor all contacts are not showed.
After the small investigation I came to this it happened because I've set default tel. numbers for voice connections in my Nokia N70. When I switch off them and refresh the contact list in Nokia Text Message all contacts are appear.
In the the previous version of the PC Suite 6.82 wasn't this problem.
In Contacts list on Nokia Phone Browser everything is all right.
I Have Win XP SP2, PC Suite 6.83.14.1 and Nokia N70.
    All in Polish language.
    Could Nokia fix it?
    Regards

Have you tried resetting the sync history on what I assume to be a Mac, which is done via iSync preferences with the iSync application located in your Applications folder?
If not, quit iTunes, the Address Book, and iCal.
Launch the iSync application and after selecting reset sync history via iSync preferences, restart your Mac followed by syncing your iPhone again to check if this resolves the problem.

  • How can I import all contacts to iPad1 from iMac?

My iPad [1] IOS 5 has a number of duplicate addresses, but does NOT include *all* my Contacts from my Mac.
My Mac is OSX 10.7.   I have selected iCloud as my storage, not 'my computer'
I have tried deleting the iPad Contacts [iCloud>slider 'off']  but when I return the slider to 'on' the Contacts are repopulated, but with all the same duplicates and omissions as before.
I have allowed a time delay; tried restarting the computer; nothing makes any difference.
Please help - I am reduced to sending myself emails containing the missing addresses!
In additon to the above... Pt2:  the duplicates in iPad Contacts have more - eg repeating the Home address - or sometimes less, information.
and if I add a name to a Group, there is immediately a duplicate entry created in the main address list [I could have >8 duplicated entries for one name if added to several group mailings]   Deleting duplicates is pointless, as they reappear.

If you have all the contacts you want on your iMac, turn iCloud contacts off on you iMac. Choose to keep the contacts local. You might backup or archive a copy of your contacts.
Once the iMac is isolated from iCloud, go to the iCloud.com website and select and delete all contacts. You can do this on the iPad also (it may be easier). Once the contacts are cleared from both the website and iPad, you can turn on iCloud contacts on the iMac. It should populate the website and the iPad.

  • Lost all contacts on ipad2 when manually entering new contact.

On a trip in May, I lost all contacts when entering new ones.  I use Windows Live Mail and had to call and spend a long time with three different Apple techs in order to get the contacts back.  I actually forgot about the problem and entered one new contact yesterday (on another trip) and lost ALL contacts again.  I can't call for help until I return home because I have the name of the tech who solved my problem at home.
Here I am on another trip without any e-mail contacts.  Why hasn't Apple updated the software and fixed this problem?

    Okay...
I lost all my contact phone numbers for some reason when iSyncing with Motorola Raizor V3 or whaterver they call it. I have been searching the web for a solution and everyone seems to find the file AddressBook.data and AddressBook.data.previous and restore all back into normal. I, on the other side, cannot find these files. I got to <user>/Library/Application Support/Address Book and these files are not there! Why aren't they there??? I dont get it... everyone else finds them there.
Another solution I have found people doing is going to /Library/Application Support/SyncService/Backup Data and finding a folder there called Address Book that contains the data but NOT on my mac! I am not a Mac illiterate either.
I have a back up of some of the data but it is not very up to date. I lost all the phone numbers only. Weird. It doesnt make any sense! Thanks a lot iSync!
This is frustrating because I didn't not only lose ALL my numbers on my Address Book, I lost all my numbers on my cell phone too!
    I am running Leopard 10.5.6.
Wanna hear something funny? I just found out my girlfriend is pregnant, I lost my job yesterday, the valet-parking driver crashed my car and I got robbed. And I am not even joking but it doesn't mean it's not funny because somehow, I find it all hysterical! Cheers -- gonna go for some icecream now.

  • ICal syncing with mac and iphone problem - duplicating all alarms.

I have a mobile me account linked to my office mac, my home mac and my iPhone and my wife's iphone. I have been using this to sync all my contacts and calendar for 18 months with no problems until just after christmas. It suddenly duplicated all my contacts and all my iCal alarms. To solve it I had to use time machine to take my ical and address book back a few days and then force everything to update from that machine.
This I thought solved it but now three weeks later it has duplicated all my alarms again. Why is this happening and how do I stop it? It does not inspire confidence in this system if it randomly changes things. How do I know it will not suddenly delete something? It is also very frustrating and time consuming to reset all the data back a few days.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

The synchronization between iCal, MobileMe, and iPhone is one of the biggest embarrassments and disgraces Apple has yet to deal with.
For over a year, I have been battling duplicates with little success. Add to all this MS Entourage, which I had to install last year because Mac Mail doesn't play nicely with Exchange server. (My company uses Exchange for our mail, etc.) To be clear, the duplicate problem existed prior to the addition of Entourage 2008. So you are out of luck, Koolaide Fans; you can't point the finger at MS in this case.
After 6 months of struggling and fighting with Entourage (and because there is no native version of MS Project or Visio for Mac) I finally had to install VM Ware with Windows 7, MS Office 2007, Visio, Project, etc. The MS apps work perfectly under the Windows 7 session. So, I my functionality for business has been restored. However, I am left wondering why I have a Mac if it can't provide me the functionality I need for such basic things as Email, calendars, contacts, and tasks. I am to the point where I am basically doing everything in the VMWare session under Windows.
I am very pleased with my Mac's ability to do video editing, graphics, and sound using Adobe products. But again, I work in mainstream corporate America where 90% of the marketshare is still PC/Windows.
In the end, I am hoping someone from Apple can come forward soon and say "This is EXACTLY how you need to configure your Entourage/iCal/MobileMe/iPhone so that you aren't crippled by duplicates and other nonsense...." It really is ridiculous.

  • Regarding Contacts: how can I create a group without adding those names to All Contacts?

I can create distribution lists in my PC without cluttering up my list of All Contacts. I can't figure out how to do this in my new Mac.
Thanks in advance for your help.

The Apple Address Book generally is storing all your contacts in the All Contacts list.
You might then put certain contacts in a separate group. By doing this, the contact is not copyied or duplicated, only linked from the All Contacts.
The big advantage here is that it is much easier to avoid duplicates or to have outdated contacts in one of the groups.

How do you delete all contacts on iPhone 4S? I have tried to sync and end up w/duplicates and now triplicates. 4,000 contacts have now turned into 12,000 contacts!! I "upgraded" to Lion and hate it - it was so much easier before. I managed to delete on MacBook (to start from scratch there), but cannot delete from iphone or ipad. I am so frustrated! Please help

Hi Cynthia!  If you are syncing from something like Gmail you can go into the iPhones Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>(account you are syncing)> and turn off contacts. It will ask you if you want to delete them from your phone - just click delete.  Exit Settings and turn phone off by power button (not all the way OFF).  Then re-open Settings>mail, Contacts, Calendars>(account you are syncing)> and turn Contacts back on - This is where you need to be careful - When you turn contacts back on you will be prompted to delete or save the contacts already on your phone. CLICK DELETE.  You should now have only your synced contacts on your phone!  Hope it helps!

  • IPhone 4 - iOS 5 upgrade - LOST ALL CONTACT DETAILS

I upgraded to  iOS 5 and now I can't get to any of my contact details.
    What I have -
The list of my contacts is displayed under the contacts option, but when I touch any contact name it takes me back to the home screen. Can't make any phone calls. But I can receive phone calls and the caller-id displays the correct name too. So my guess is the information is there somewhere, I just can't seem to find it or use it.
What I have tried so far -
    1) Resynced contacts from the Info tab in iTunes. I get the following error msg - "iTunes couldnot sync contacts to the "iPhone" because contacts are being synced over-the-air
    2) turned off sync over wi-fi from iTUnes. Tried syncing again. Same error message as above.
    3) Tried going to "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" under settings, it takes me back to home screen. It displays the "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" details screen for about half a second and takes me back to home screen.
    4) Went to iCloud under settings and tried to turn off teh "Contacts" from there. It simplays doesn't turn off. I can turn off everything else listed under there, but contacts. No matter what I do, it stays on.
    5) Signed into iCloud.com with my account. The contacts info there has only one contact listed (mine).
    6) Tried to edit contact details from one of my recent text messages. Doesn't work. Takes me backto home screen.
Does anyone have any ideas about how to fix this. At this point I can't even use the main function a phone should be performing, i.e. make calls from my stored contacts.

I had the same problem. Time Machine proved invaluable here. I opened up Address Book, selected "All Contacts", started up TIme Machine via Spotlight, and scrolled back to the day before I ran the 4.2.1 updater. Bada bing, all contacts restored to the address book! Simply did an iPhone sync after that and all was well again.
    Still, nasty bug Apple. :-|

  • All Contacts   won't open a new contact page

I am a first time owner of a new iphone4 which was professionall set up and synced (Macbook Pro, ipod) for me.  I was successfully enterering contacts when the ALL CONTACTS + function unexpectedly froze.
Not sure if I hit something in error and have no idea where to investigate this problem.

Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
    * Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
    * Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

  • How do I delete    all contacts (at one time) from i      phone4

Somehow I have gotten mutilple listing in contacts.  How do I delete all contacts from I phone and start over?

        baprawski,
Is there a particular reason why you want to delete the contacts all at once? The only way you can delete all the contacts all one time would be to wipe the device. This will complete erase all data on the phone including the contacts.
You want to make sure you backup your device uisng the desktop manager. Once you perform the wipe you can then backup your contacts using the desktop manager and just make sure to uncheck the Contacts when backing up so they are not added back to your phone.
